Migrating Share point server to new vm

Hi Techs,
We are having two instance of SharePoint server 2010, one is in production and one is test. we need to migrate both and SQL server 2008 r2 to new AD site in same domain.
Production server i having SQL server instance on separate VM.
What would be the best practice to migrate all 3 to new VMs and different site.
Thanks for your advise.
Amrit

There are several steps involved in migrating SharePoint servers from one domain to another, including converting/migrating user accounts to work in the new domain.
Here is a good guide that outlines the process involved in conducting such a migration:  http://blogs.technet.com/b/sushrao/archive/2011/12/02/sharepoint-migrating-sharepoint-server-from-one-domain-to-another.aspx
I trust that answers your question...
Thanks

  • Use unused server as share point server after move databases to new server

    HI,
we have a single server share point farm (ServerApp01) for Intranet and it connects to a SQL SERVER 2008 R2 database server (Server02),
and now  we moved all sharepoint databases and content dbs to new sql server in different server (ServerSQLNew).
using sqlalias we point to new SQLSERVER 2012 Instance in this new server.
    - now the old sql server (Server02), is not in the sharepoint  farm
    - now can i add this server in intranet farm and  use this old server (Server02) as wfe server ?
here my doubt is  when i open cliconfg.exe i saw that sharepoint server pointing to this old server name (Server02),
after i will join this server to existing farm is any issues?
    adil

    hi
i already turned off sql server instance in old sql server in my case in Server02.
    In share
point Server (ServerApp01) i opened cliconfg.exe and add sqlaliases to point to new sql server.
If i rename  server02 server or rebuild
the server with a clean OS install  still  Sharepoint Farm works right?
below is the scenario of sqlalias in sharepointserver (serverapp01)

  • Drill through reports are not working fine in share point server

I Have a master report with four parameters and child report with two parameters
I deployed these two reports in share point server , my scenario is i am navigating from my parent report to child report using action (Drill Through Report Concept)
First i clicked on parent report it will ask select parameters , i have selected all parameter and click on apply in share point it will display the parent report content .
In parent report i have link to navigate child report . if i click the link it will redirect to child report and displays the child report content perfectly. upto this step every thing working fine now problem is comes to picture
I have back to in my child report when i click the that button it redirects from child to parent
But earlier selected parameters values are lossed and the parent report again asked for me to select parameters
Can you please explain me because we have migratiojn from ssrs report manager to share point .

    Hi All,
Finally i got the solution there is small difference between SSRS Native mode and share point integrated mode
To overcome this issue explicitly we have to change our report expression code for SharePoint Integration mode before deployment. We have to change URL
Preparation code in the expression in report.
    Below is the sample URL
    ="http://<<site url>>/ReportServer/RSViewerPage.aspx?rv:RelativeReportUrl"+"=/ssrs/INT/Report.rdl&rp:parameter1="+CStr(Parameters!parameter1.Value)+"&rp:parameter2="+CStr(Parameters!parameter2.Value)+"&rc:Parameters=True"
The only difference between our SSRS Report manager report expression and share point integrated mode report expression is
    “rp:”
    value prefixed with every parameter.
After fixing this code I am able to see the previously selected values in Parent report below are the screen shots

  • What are share point server 2013 & Share point Designer 2013 & Office 365 & Yammer & Share point 2013 & Windows server 2008 server & Windows Server 2012 Server Data Center?

    I need some clarifications.
What are share point server 2013 & Share point Designer 2013 & Office 365 & Yammer & Share point 2013 & Windows server 2008 server & Windows Server 2012 Server Data Center? How each them are related in collaboration system?
Is Share point server 2013 and Share pointer Designer 2013 available in 32bit version? If not, then how to use it in 32 bit machine by using any VMs?
    Thanks
    Senthil

    SharePoint Server 2013:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-sharepoint-collaboration-software-FX103479517.aspx
    SharePoint Designer 2013:
Designer is used to develop SharePoint pages using HTML/CSS/JS as well as SharePoint Designer Workflows
    Yammer:
    https://about.yammer.com/
Windows Server is Windows, but the Server OS. SharePoint runs on top of supported Windows Servers editions (see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485.aspx).
SharePoint Server is 64-bit only (trial:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/hh973397.aspx), although Designer does have a 32-bit edition (full product:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35491).
You will need the capability to run 64bit VMs. Minimum recommended all-in-one VM for SharePoint is to allocate 24GB of RAM, but you can get away with as little as 12GB (I wouldn't go below that). Because of this, it generally rules out 32bit OSes as a virtual
    machine host.

  • How to migrate os x server to new hardware

I am looking for the quickest easiest way to migrate OS X server to new hardware that I purchased. I currently have both DHCP and DNS services actively running.  I have VPN services running when needed.

    Reid,
Thanks for your response.  I actually migrated everything that I needed over about an hour after I posted.  For DNS I simply copied all of the zone files in /Library/Server/named and restarted the DNS service.  DHCP took a little more investigation as I had to find where the configuration file was being stored.  I eventually found the configuration in /etc/bootpd.plist file that contains all of the DHCP info and copied it over to the new system.  Once I restarted all services everything was working fine.
I took this approach rather than a direct cloning as I wanted a clean install of everything on the target system.  Also, as I mentioned before, I didn't have many services running that I needed to have running on the new configuration.  The VPN services that I was running had only one test user so recreating it from scratch was a non-issue.

  • Move / Migrate A Managment Server to New Hardware

I want to move / migrate my existing SCOM 2012 SP1 Management Servers to new hardware running Server 2012 R2. We're going to leave the DBs where they are for now.
It looks like I could just 'add' a new Management Server and then remove the older ones. Is it that simple?
    Orange County District Attorney

    HI,
    1. Install a new Management server in your management group.
2, Move all SCOM agents from old MS to new management server.
    3. Move if there is any dependencyes on old MS to new MS (Like Exchange corelation engine serivce on MS for Exchange 2010 MP / Proxying for web application monitoring/ SMTP relay for SCOM email notification etc)
    4. properly uninstall Old MS to avoid issues (if not objects will left in resource pools)
    Kind Regards,

  • Migration of old server to new server...how??

    Hi all...
I am here to discuss about some information  to how migrate a server from old machine to a new server??
can someone provide some good links??
i did searched on google but didnt quite understood the whole thing.
Currently server is sql 2005 and in new server also i want the same .

    hi
Refer this kb article for moving databases from one server to another server
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/314546
There are 4 ways to move/copy a database from one server to another server using SQL Server Tools.
    i) Detach the database from the old server and attach it in the new server. This is purely offline operation and it moves the database instead of copying it.
Refer http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms190209.aspx : how to use attach/detach database in SQL Server Management Studio(SSMS)
ii) Back up the database in the old server and restore it in the destination server. This can be performed during online and it creates a new database in the destination server.
    Refer http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms187048.aspx for more information.
iii) Using copy database wizard in SQL Server Management Studio.
Select the database in the source server in SSMS
Right click ->Tasks->Copy Database Wizard to launch the copy database wizard.
Enter the source and destination credentials and select either attach/detach or SMO type
click next and you can schedule or run immediately
    Click finish to execute it
    Refer http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188664.aspx for more information.
iv) The last type is to generate the create script using Generate Script Wizard (SSMS)  and execute it in the destination server.
Select the database in the source server in SSMS
Right click ->Tasks->Generate Scripts Wizard to launch the wizard.
Select the various scripting options needed and select the objects needed to generate the scripts for them. Make sure script data = true in the scripting option to generate script for data as well (INSERT statements)
click next ->next and finish to generate the script (new query window or clip board or file)
connect to the destination server and create the new database in it.
Click new query window and paste the script generated using GSW above and execute them with the destination database context.
    Refer http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms181421.aspx for more information
    v) Using Transfer Object in SMO
    Sample code:
    ScriptingOptions so = new ScriptingOptions();
    so.ScriptData = true;
    Transfer t = new Transfer(db);
    t.CopyAllObjets = true;
    t.options = so;
     t.TransferData();
Note: Transfer class is available in Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtendedClass.dll  (SQL Server 2008)
    or Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo.dll (SQL Server 2005)
There are various member variables to be configurable. Also ScriptingOptions class object can be created and assigned to the transfer object as well.
set ScriptData = true in order to transfer data also. It copies the destination instead of moving the database
    Refer  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.sqlserver.management.smo.transfer.aspx for more information.
    Does this helped?
    Thanks
    Sreekar

  • Migrate (N)AMP server to new hardware

    Hi,
I have been looking for documentation on how to move an AMP configuration to
new hardware (practically same OS-install, NW65SP7).
Is there any info around 'cause I wasn't able to find any. And before I
start dumping MySQL databases and Apache virtual hosts, I thought i'd ask
    here.
On the origin server, webcontent and SQL db are placed on different volumes
than SYS. I looked at MigrationWizard as well, but my replacement server is
already in the same tree (new name).
Any info, links or directions, appreciated.
    Regards,
    Marcel

    BakxM,

I'd transfer the database and adjust Apache and PHP settings manually.

  • Nested Share Points - Server 10.6.8

Basically, I have two teams, TeamA and TeamB.  The users on each team are members of separate groups named teama and teamb.  The ACL's are set so that each team has full control over their folder recursively. The POSIX permissions are set such that each team is the group for their folder as well.  Others access is set to none.   All works perfectly.
So now all of a sudden, teamb needs to see one of the folders buried down about 4 levels in the TeamA folder.  I only want them to have full access to that folder and its contents.  I have added them as an ACL on that folder and propagated it down, but they do not see that share when they connect.
    What am I missing?

The general process of the upgrade is:
    • "Purchase" Mavericks from the App Store and install it over the existing server.
    • When booted from Mavericks, purchase and run Server.app to upgrade your services.
    • Everything works perfect.
Sounds easy.  But often is not.  Some suggestions.
    • Do not attempt without a valid, restorable backup.  A full system backup is recommended, allowing you to restore to before the attempted upgrade.
    • Make a list of all services running on the server now.  Read this article to see if you have any areas of concern http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5381
    • Check all third party tools installed on the server (Kerio, FileMaker, Rumpus, backup software, etc)  See if you will need updates/upgrades to support Mavericks.
    • If you are hosting services like mail, contacts, calendars, or other services that may be updated by users while you are performing the upgrade, shut down firewall ports to prevent users from modifying those services.  I will spare you from the pain and suffering of having a botched upgrade and then trying to figure out how to get back email messages that got delivered to the upgraded box only to be lost when you restored back to the old OS.  Isolate the server and test before releasing to the masses.
    • Stop all services that do not need to keep running (generally the only two I leave on are DNS (if used) and Open Directory (if used).  Other services I will stop during the upgrade process.
    • Did I mention, don't attempt without a backup?

  • Sharepoint server get all Updates except share point Updates

    hi
I have a sharepoint server that sharepoint 2013 has installed on that .my Update server is sccm 2012 r2 and I checked all office 2003,2007,2010,2013 product to be synchronized .every thing is good sccm work fine in synchronizing update with Microsoft.and the
share point server OS gets Updates finely .But the Problem is here that share point service doesn't get any updates .all updates deployed to OS except share Point updates.
    whats the solution ?
    thanx

I checked those files .but there weren't any errors .I checked them through reporting but it still says that those
Updates are not required whereas the server doesn't installed any share point Updates.
    http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2767999
A change in the package configuration was introduced after SharePoint Server 2013 was released. You must install this public update before you install later SharePoint updates.
Note This update is available only from the Download Center and is currently not available from Microsoft Update.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36989
Due to a change in the package configuration introduced after SharePoint 2013 RTM the March Public update is a mandatory requirement in order to install subsequent SharePoint Updates.

    thanks for reply
But before I've got another share point server 2013 and wsus server (not sccm) .that was ok with all Updates .
I didnt do any thing special in that case.like installing some hotfixes or anything else.

  • Migration: Names of Share Points in Server Admin

We're migrating from OS X Server 10.3.9 to 10.5.6. I've exported and imported the Users and Groups successfully and am setting up the Share Points manually.
We have several Share Points whose directory names are the same: let's say, "Fred". In Panther Server, Workgroup Manager shows these as "Fred", "Fred (1)", and "Fred (2)". We gave the shares Custom AFP and SMB names as follows: "Fred1", "Fred2", and "Fred3", respectively.
Now, when setting up Share Points in Leopard Server, Server Admin (why'd they move this from Workgroup Manager, anyway?) renames same-named shares a bit differently from Panther: "Fred", "Fred-1", "Fred-2". Note the hyphen instead of a space and parentheses. I can still give these shares the same Custom AFP and SMB names as on the old server, but my question is:
Will the different "behind the scenes" names mean my users won't be able to connect to the shares? Or will these new names be irrelevant, since the names the users see (and map to automatically, in many cases) remain the same as before?
    Thanks.
    Jon Eiche

Just to clarify, these Share Points are NOT users' home folders or any other such thing automatically created by the operating system (i.e., we don't have three users all named Fred, so don't tell me the folders shouldn't have the same names in the first place); they're independent shares we created as locations to place files.

  • Move dashboards from perfomance point server 2007 to share point 2013

     Hello every one,
can you please help me in the below.
I have to move the reports and dash boards from old to new share point (2013) site. There is already a share point site built and running successfully. I need to add 1 section of dash boards and reports into sharepoint 2013 from the old site.
For this I need to add new sub site site rite? My question here is how to bring dash boards and reports from old site to new site (share point 2013).
Old site is performance point server 2007 and new site is share point 2013.
    Thanks
    Kumar

Given you aren't using PowerPivot for SharePoint, you can continue using SSAS 2008 R2 for your cubes and data connections. BI dashboards, Lists, and so forth are just SharePoint content, and they get upgraded when you migrate to 2013.
