Mini's Microphone Jack

Howdy all. I'm trying to use my Mac Mini on Skype. I know it will work because all of my other Macs work great. Question: I have a headset/boom microphone that came in a box with ViaVoice eons ago. The headset with microphone works fine on my iMac at home, but I wonder about the jack on the Mini. The plug is of the "mini plug" variety, but it is about 3/4" long. The plug goes in all the way on the iMac, but seems to bottom out at about 1/2" on the Mini. Since this is also a digital jack, will it not accept the long mic plug? If anyone has dissected on of these let me know. I don't want to force the plug in if it isn't designed to take it. Thanks.

The mini only has a line-in input, so a standard microphone won't work instead you need either an active microphone that can drive the line-in input or a USB microphone.

  • Can the microphone jack input be configured for a stereo signal from a tape deck without overloading

Can the Microphone jack input on the HP Pavilion dv6  be configured to take in a stereo signal from a tape deck without overloading the microphone jack, i.e., so it acts as a Line In jack?.  The jack is too sensitive to accept the typical signal from a tape deck or stereo tape out jack from an audio receiver, and the incoming sound is overloaded and distorted.  Also, connecting from a stereo receiver headphone jack so the level can be controlled to the laptop microphone jack lowers the signal strength but contains a lot of background hum.  Any way to configure the microphone jack to have it work as a line in jack?

There're two ways to connect it. One is through the digital output ( which is the same as the front line out on the Audigy and is a different jack on the Audigy 2 series ) or through the front line out.
In either case, you need a stereo mini-plug to phono x 2 connector adapter cable.
In the case of a digital connection, only one of the plugs will carry the signal. For analogue connections, simply plug the two phono outputs into the L/R phono inputs on yer receiver.

  • Lenovo G505S microphone jack

There is none lol. When I bought this laptop, in the store there was 1x microphone jack. Lol not really. I have one gaming headset and I can't use it, becuse it's microphone and audio needs separate jacks. Any good suggestion, how to fix it?  Becuse first of all, when I insert my audio, the internal mic is not working too, and secondly, internal mic is one of the crappiest I have ever seen lol. So, in conclusion, I need to use my gaming headset on this comp, HOW?

    hi dataplayer,
Thanks for posting and sorry to hear about your trouble.
If you only see one jack for the mic/headphone then it's most likely an audio combo jack as discussed in this article.
If your gaming headset uses a separate connector for the mic/headphone then you will may need to get a PC Headset to 3.5mm adapter (like this item).

  • No microphone jack and my headphone jack isn't working. N858

I just got a Lenovo N585, and I've got to say it's one confusing laptop, at least for me. Well I tried plugging in my headphones into the head phone jack, and its works externally, but there is no sound coming out of my head phones. I am wondering if theres some program I have to run to make it work correctly. Also why is there not a microphone jack?

    Hi Awkwardness2,
Thanks for posting and Welcome to Lenovo Community,
the machine has combo audio jack ,which is 1 socket for the speakers and the microphone
you need to buy a new headphone with combo audio jack or get an adapter to fix this issue
let me know if that fix the issue or not

  • Route sound output to microphone jack?

    Hi,
    I have a 5.1 Soundsystem I want to use.
My Notebook has 2 headphone jacks and one microphone jack.
Is it possible to route the sound so that micropone jack outputs front/center headphone1 gives front and headphone 2 gives rear with ALSA?
I already used the board search and found a thread that links to this page. But I did not really understand what's done in this .asoundrc file.

You will have to experiment with ttable entries, to see if it will work - see upmixing examples.

  • Microphone jack not working

I have an HP G60 Notebook PC and whenever I want to feed something into the microphone jack it records badly. What I'm trying to do is directly feed audio into the microphone jack. I can get it to work on another laptop perfectly but for some reason when I do it on my HP it sounds like its playing back underwater. Its distorted and the volume varies. Any help would be awesome.

Question : My father recently bought me a new Headset. It's a great Headset with good quality(I GUESS) and a microphone which is what I need.(SORRY IF THIS OFFENDED YOU) Anyway, I was disappointed when I noticed there was a microphone input/wire, there wasn't any microphone jack for it on the computer/laptop. It would be a waste of money if I would have to switch inputs/outputs. Is there a possible way to use the headphones and the microphone simultaneously? Please help, I've been wanting a Headset with a microphone and I finally received one and this occured. Please help. I don't want to purchase any external thing for the microphone jack, if I do, Apple should re-design the MacBook Pro, sorry, though. I don't think the Apple earphones or Ear pods came along with this computer/laptop, so, why only one jack for the headphones? Anyway, sorry for any offensive feedback or sayings. Thank you, though.

Use a usb port and usb adapter. There is no mic in on Mackbook Pros. Return the headset for a uisb headset with mic.

  • Presario C751NR Microphone jack not detected, internal Mic works OK

I made sure that I have the most current Conexant audio driver installed: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-64867-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us〈=en&os=2093&product=3646600 When I plug a microphone into the microphone jack on the front, the driver does not detect the change and maintains a connection to the microphone built in to the display lid. Going in to the control panel and looking at the microphone's "Jack Information" indicator dot when an external microphone is plugged in shows it staying black. Does anyone have any ideas?  It has always been like that, but I would like to be able to use the microphone jack. System is running Vista Home Premium (32 Bit) with SP2 and all current system updates.

  • Sound Blaster X-Fi I/O - Windows 7 RC - Microphone jack not working

    Hey all,
I've recently installed the Windows 7 RC and am running the Beta drivers on it. I have a weird problem with it where the Microphone jack is being recognised as line-in, but all of the controls for the actual line are in the microphone properties. For instance, I can enable the +20dB boost, which will affect the sound coming through line-in, but it still won't recognise the actual Microphone.
Any ideas why this is? Previous behaviour in Vista was that the Microphone jack was recognised as one and I could control the recording settings from there...

    Sorry fffcmad,
Everything you said in your post does not apply to the Titanium.
The mic shares the line-in on a channel called FlexiJack. There is a tab in the "Settings" window in which you can switch between the two. You can find that window by opening the "Game Mode" window and click "Settings" on the bottom of that window. However, the problem is that mic detection is very unstable and you have to have luck to get it to work. The next step is to select the "Microphone" channel by clicking the arrow above the right-most fader in the "Game Mode" window. However, for some odd reason that option often fails to popup there. Often you'll find "Microphone FP" (note the "FP" in the name and it stands for "Front Panel") which is only available in the version with the front panel! The FlexiJack one is called "Microphone" (with the "FP" in the name). Rebooting might help, but often it doesn't. Changing input devices and changing them back might work, but often it doesn't.
Also, the Titanium has no mic boost. That is a real problem, because the mic volume is extremely low.
The short answer: The Titanium's drivers are unstable.

  • Rear Microphone Jack Missing

    Hi all,
I apologise if this is a frequently asked question - I've searched for a bit, but can't find anything similar so here goes.
I have an X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI Express with no front panel connector. I am trying to connect a microphone to the rear jack, but it's not being detected in the Windows 7 audio device manager. In fact, there's no rear microphone connection listed at all - I have one listed for a front panel jack (which doesn't exist), and one for the FlexiJack (which works, but I'd rather use the proper microphone jack).
Is there anything I can do to get the rear jack to to be properly listed/detected?

More often than not when a device isn't working it is because the driver has become corrupted. Re-installing a fresh copy should help

  • Y410p Front headphone and microphone jacks not working after repair

I recently (last month) sent  my IdeaPad Y410p in to Lenovo for repairs due to the laptop not turning on, or repeatedly restarting at the BIOS screen. The laptop was repaired by Lenovo (they replaced the motherboard), and returned it to me. The laptop has worked great sincce then, except that the two USB ports on the right side and the headphone and microphone jacks do not work. I have reinstalled the audio drivers, twice, but have not reinstalled the chipset drivers at all, as I don't want to screw around with those untiol I no more about what I should do. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Talonek, welcome to the forums,
the problem you are experiencing is probably due to the cable connecting the ports on the right side, front of system, to the mainboard unfortunately not being connected or connected properly.  Please see pdf page 52 of the system's Hardware Maintenance Manual.
I've never taken an Y410p apart, but having looked at the manual the cable connection may well be accessible to check / fix by removing the hard drive.  Another alternative would be to call service and ask them to do this for you.

  • Enable Microphone Jack?

Hello.  I have a A505-S6969 Satellite and I'm trying to figure out how to enable the microphone jack on this laptop.  I know for sure my mic is good, I can use it fine on my desktop, but this laptop has been a bear to figure out.  I can right click on the volume icon and bring up the recording panel.  Under the microphone properties I can see both the ATAPI Internal Jack AND the front panel 3.5mm Jack in the jack information, it's enabled, but no program is detecting or picking up audio from ther 3.5mm jack.  I just got this laptop and I want my headset mic to work.  Do I have to disable the built in mic or something for my external mic to work in the jack?  I have a hard time beleiving this could be a driver issue, the mic works, and i think it's because I have not found the right button to click in any of my settings windows.  Any help is apreciated.

the speakers work fine and so does the web cam but microphone is not working when use headphones it works but how do i fix this so i don't have to use headphones it says no jack available  i tried everything
