Mirror of Air to Screen display will not start up??

I have - in System Preferences selected MIRRORING ON but how to fire it up??

Not Windows. I have had this Apple functionality working before. It is
controlled by a setting in System Preferences. Basically the Mac Air screen
is replicated on a TV style large monitor or screen.
I am starting to think that I need a cable between my large screen and the
Mac Air.

  • When waking up my macbook air from sleep, display will not turn back on.

My mid 2011 macbook air running lion is having some issues. The display, after the laptop has been woken up from sleep, will not come back on. The rest of the computer is fully functional as when i press the volume keys, i can hear the sound that it makes, the keyboard brightness keys also work. Theonly way i can fix this at the moment is doing a force shutdown and turning it back on again. If anyone has an answer to this it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Having much the same problem with my 2011 11" Air, running 10.8.2 and wondering if you ever got any resolution on this. I've had the same issues through several versions of Mountain Lion.
My display does come up, but what I see is my login screen (I have it set to require a password on wake), but with a beachball, and I can't type in the password field. I can tell that other processes are running (for instance, just now I could hear a YouTube video playing) but I can't make it respond to input.
I've also had times where I put it to sleep by closing the lid, only to come back some time later to hear the fan running and everything unresponsive.
I've reset the PRAM, reinstalled Mountain Lion, reset the SMC. I'm purposely not running a lot of extra software.
Just curious, are you using FileVault at all?

  • Mac with a white line on the screen and will not start

my computer is a macbook has a white line on the right side of the screen and does not boot me know it can be. gracais many whom I can collaborate

All they were asking is if someone could tell them what was wrong with it.......It sounds like your inner LCD screen cracked. I had the same problem. Mine was out of warrenty though so I actually bought the part off of Ebay and replaced it myself. The front screen and inner LCD are connected so you have to buy them the same way to fix it. It was like $28 and came with the tools. Just FYI. Obviously if you are in warrenty....have apple fix it.

  • HT4061 Iplugged in, and later a blank screen--and will not start.

I tried to charge IPAD, later only a blank screen.

Are you using the wall charger? If totally discharged, it won't give an indication of charging for about 20-30 minutes.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • MacBook Air shut off and will not start.

    I have a late 2010 MacBook Air.
Unfortunately, I'm in a country without an Apple store or any kind of official Apple support (no phone number to call).
2 days ago, I plugged in a little USB modem device (wireless is rare here) and my laptop shut down suddenly. It refused to restart at all until I did an SMC reset and then it was working fine (including with the USB modem plugged in).
However, the next day, the same shut-down occurred (when I plugged in the modem again) and now SMC reset is not doing anything. I've held down the start button for a very long time and there aren't any signs of life. The light on the charger shows that it is charging when I plug it in.
    Any suggestions?

Try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Apparently the USB modem hardware is not compatible with your MBAir.

  • Chunky bit map pattern on screen and will not start up

Please help! My MacBook Pro started doing this thing about a week ago where a chunky bitmap pattern would appear on the screen and the computer would freeze, but you could still see the screen behind the pattern. Somtimes this happens after running awhile. Sometimes it happens right on start up. Sometimes it works fine for a day or two. Now I cannot even get my Mac to start up!! You see blips and lines on the screen the second it lights up. The apple logo appears and you see the spinning wheel, then the screen turns blue and is still full of squares, lines, etc. usually in a diagonal pattern. Something is VERY wrong, but I dont' know what. Since I live in Jamaica, shipping is very expensive and there is no Apple store to bring it to. If the machine is fried and needs repair, how can

    Hello!
This would be easier to diagnose if we had more info about your MBP model. There are a number of variants and each may have its own issues.
Do "About this Mac..." from the Apple Menu and then click "More info..." in the resulting window. That launches System Profiler and the first page will identify your specific model. For example; mine looks like this:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B05
    SMC Version: 1.16f10
    Serial Number: xxxxxxxxx
Post that info, being sure to delete the serial number like I did. That info will precisely identify which MBP you have and, hopefully lead to assistance.

  • MacBook Pro slowed down and now will not start up- flashing symbols on start screen.

I am increasingly worried about my MacBook Pro. It had been slow for a few weeks (I think it may be infected with some kind of malware), slowed down even more, and then a couple days ago when I turned it on it flashed a question mark folder, a prohibitory sign, and the apple logo on the startup screen and will not go past that. I followed the instructions on an apple help page for this issue- Nothing connected to it; I even removed the apple power cord. I tried a safe boot. I reset the NVRAM. It said to try starting up from an OS install disc, but my computer did not come with one. Here's the bit where I'm not sure if I made a stupid decision; another site said that the computer will download a recovery partition if there is no install disc, so I booted while holding down C even though I had no disc. I then read that holding option on startup will allow you to choose which disc to start from- I did that, and the only option displayed is a disc called Recovery (with a number after it that I think was 10.something, presumably referring to the OS version). Does this mean I have lost access to  my computer's Macintosh HD? Have my files been lost? Unfortunately I do not have them backed up. Bad decision on my part.

    Thanks for the quick response.
Command-option-r does take me to a screen with a spinning globe. Below the globe is a drop-down menu from which to select a wi-fi network. My network, however, is not listed. (I am now sitting right by the router, and my iPhone is on the wifi without any problem.)  I go instead to manually type it in. I have triple checked the network name and password. I have used both the WEP key, which I have always used, and something that the sticker on the router refers to as the Mac ID, which is the WEP but with two zeros before it. Still the screen shakes as if I have entered the wrong password. I'm not sure what's going on now.

  • Display will not sleep any more after waking from sleep

My Macbook has recently started misbehaving after waking from sleep. Started putting the entire MB to sleep each night by closing the lid. When I wake it in the morning everything seems normal, no error messages. However from that point forward the display will not dim or sleep. I've tried re-applying my settings in System Preferences -> Energy Saver. Pretty much the only fix has been to reboot, which is annoying and Windows-like.
In the interest of full disclosure, I have "fast sleep" enabled (aka hibernation mode disabled) but I've had that since I bought my MB with 10.5.1 on it. So I don't think it's related. In fact I changed to the default Energy Saver profile to see if that fixed the problem (it didn't), which re-enabled hibernation mode and I then had to re-disable hibernation.
I want to say this started happening after the 10.5.4 update, but that may have been a coincidence as to when I started sleeping it each night... I don't exactly remember.
I downloaded Cocktail to run all the cron jobs, etc, that don't get run when sleeping at night, and that didn't help either.
Any suggestions? Anyone else ever see this? Seeing it now?
    Thanks!

This is still an issue for me.
I sleep my Macbook every night by closing the lid. After doing this a few times, the display either stops sleeping, or stops locking. I have the lock menu in the Apple menu bar, and even selecting "Lock screen" will not work.
Sometimes a reboot fixes it, sometimes I have to reset the SMC.
    Any info out there?

Wondering why the touch screen display did not respond suddenly untill restart? Tx..

Being an electronic/computer type device that can happen and often a Simple Restart or Reset (as described below) will often cure many such ills.... If the problem persists... Connect to iTunes on your Computer and Restore
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...

  • My display will not wake when I remote in

I have an imac early 2009. I have recently updated various software from Apple. I have the engery prefrence at : 1hour Computer sleep and 15 mins Display sleep. I use Gotomypc to login to my home computer. Prior to the new updates i did not have an issue with with the computer not waking from sleep. But since the updates my display will not wake? They hardrive wake but the screen just does not. I do have a screen saver, however, this was not an issue prior to the new updates. Any help would greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,

After a lot of research it seems to be an issue with the last update. It appears to be an issue with several application and the developers are aware of the issue. Unfortunately the only fix to the issue currently is to keep your monitor on. I have adjusted my screen to only be on at various time to prevent burn out. I hope this helps.
