Mis-filed mail in subfolders

I have set-up my Ipad to receive mail from my corporate Exchange server and am noticing the following issue.
I have subfolders in my PC Outlook Inbox.
Whe I have mail open on my ipad, and a new message comes in, if I happen to be in a subfolder (example a subfolder for messages from my boss or whatever) all the new mail lands in THAT folder and NOT in my Inbox.
Needless to say, this is resulting in a lot of mis-filed mail. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a solution?

Yes, same problem on on iphone 4 - no solution found yet.

  • HELP!!! Deleted Folders in Filed Mail

HELP! I seem to have accidentally deleted a very needed set of folders in Mail kept in Filed Mail section. I have not emptied Trash, hoping they are all still on computer somewhere. But via all Search functions (Mail and Spotlight) and just poking around in Library, I can't see any trace of the folder or its subfolders and stored emails. CAN ANYONE HELP ME???
You can als email me at [email protected]
    Thanks!
    Richard

Messages deleted as a result of deleting the folder that contained them don't go to the Trash, rather they are permanently deleted from the filesystem. If you don't have a backup, your only option is to try to salvage them with a data recovery utility such as Data Rescue II. Stop using your computer now if you want to try that, as anything you do with it may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.

  • Outlook 2013 and exchange. Cant see new mail in subfolders.

    Hello,
In our company we have exchange 2010 with sp3 and all clients with windows 8.1 and Outlook 2013. Problem is that clients have problem with new messages in their mailboxes. they cant see new messages in subfolders. In Outlook 2010 everything worked fine,
and after migration to 2013 this problem started.
    For example:
There is user mailbox. He have a lot of subfolders. All subfolders is for varies companies. So he created rules, then someone writes from  campany, mail goes to its subfolder. Problem is that then user opens Outlook in the morning, he can't see that
new mails are arrived to those subfolders. User must open that subfolder and only then, inside that subfolder he can see unread message. But how user can know, that inside is unread mail? :) Sometimes everything works fine, and sometimes user can't see new
mails. Then he opens OWA, all new mails is marked as unread and there is number near subfolder with unread mail count.
And this problem repeats to all users. I updated exchange to SP3 update 6. Operating system and Outlook is up to date. Recreation of profile helps for a week or two (Or user do not notice problem), and after that user calls me again with the same problem.
And this happens not for one user but for all. Sometimes restarting Outlook helps, after restart number with unread mail count appears near subfolder. There is no addins or other changes in Outlook. Search folder is not a solution, because there is a lot of
subfolders, so it would be a mess.
Can you advice me? Where can be problem? Is it global for all users who are using exchange 2010 and Outlook 2013?
    Mantas

I tryed using search folder but this solution didnt helped. Then user opens Outlook he sees unread mail count near subfolder, and sum of unread mails in search
folder. But somefing happens and new mails does not appear neither in search folder neither near subfolders. But then client opens subfolder there are unread mails. In OWA everytime everything is OK. So user must check in OWA is there new mails and in which
subfolder, then he opens that subfolder in Outlook, and uhnread mail is here.
And another thing. Now one of clients have this problem. There is no count of new mails in subfolders, outlook does not show it, but OWA shows. In rules, client created few rules, near rules in action section,
there is icon, it looks like screwdriver and wrench, i went to propeties of those rules and removed "Stop processing more rules", and this icon disappeared. All rules updated to server, and after that, new messages counts appeared near few subfolders.
Is it possible that somehow this message count is combined with rules? Ant what does whis screwdriver and wrench icon means?

  • Saved and sorted/filed mail messages missing

Saved and sorted/filed mail messages missing
October's messages are still there but all other messages are no longer in the folders. I have a confirmations folder with all forum and newsletter info for the last year that is empty. Where do these messages go?
I do not believe that I have it set to empty or delete itself after a certain time.
I can probably find these messages from comcast/gmail but still am wondering about this issue.
    Thank you.

Hi, sounds like a Save/Delete 1 month check in the box. I actually have a gmail account which gets sent a copy of every email from my other email accounts..Once each month I can Delete or Keep as I wish. Back Up....L

  • IPod touch issues since OS5: mis-filing of music and regualr crashes

Since upgrading my iPod touch to iOS5 I've had a few problems. Firstly the music cataloguing has gone haywire filing songs and albums etc under the wrong letters of the alphabet. Reset, erase, re-synch hasn't solved it. Un-checking all music synch options and then synching to erase all music followed by rechecking and resynching solved the issue a few weeks ago. But today I just added 3 CDs to my iTunes library and once synched the mis-filing has started again. It's also become noticeably slower reacting: it almost seems to stutter between selecting a track to play and moving to the now playing screen and starting to play.
Has anyone else had this problem? And does anyone know how to solve it permanently?

  • How can I download e-mails in subfolders from yahoo mail to Thunderbird?

I am using Thunderbird 31.3.0. Is there a way to download e-mails in subfolders from yahoo mail, not just from the inbox?

Thanks, Matt! For those looking for the yahoo mail IMAP settings, you can find them here: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/mobile-mail/imap-server-settings-sln4075.html
POP server settings are here: https://sg.help.yahoo.com/kb/mail-for-desktop/pop-server-settings-sln4724.html

  • My filed mail folders not restored, but I have them on another HD can I move them over ?

OK ... this was my own fault (owning up)
I took backup with Mozback up .. but it did not backup my filed/stored mail.
So after a clean install of OS when I retored profile email OK and inbox but none of my filed mails form Local folders.
However previously they were on another HDD ... so I do have access to them all.
    i.e they are in:
    E:\Users\Rick-old\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\20619x3p.default\Mail
there are 3 folders in that Mail folder all containing what appear to be valid mails.
My current new Thunderbird install mail folders are in:
    C:\Users\Rick\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\4ttn729w.default\Mail
    Hope you can help
Can I just move them over, or is there a correct way to do it to ensure I don't mess up folder structure or mail dates.

    C:\Users\Rick\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\4ttn729w.default\Mail\Local Folders
is the home of Local Folders
copying one lot over the other with Thunderbird closed will replace one with the other.

  • Shortcuts for filing mail messages into mailboxes

I just switched from ThinkPad to MacBook Air, and from Thunderbird to Apple Mail. I have a big hierarchy of mailboxes (several thousand of them). It is time-consuming to drag a mail message through the hierarchy into the appropriate mailbox. In Thunderbird, I had a plug-in that allowed me to quickly file mail messages into appropriate mailboxes by simply typing a few letters of the mailbox name. Is there anything similar for Apple Mail (or any other tricks for filing mail messages more quickly)?
    Thanks for your help.
    M....

    Thanks for your response.
Actually, the plug-in for Thunderbird works quite well, even with thousands of mailboxes. You type in a few letters from the mailbox name (not necessarily the first letters) and it shows a list of all mailboxes whose names include those letters.
If someone could create a plug-in like this for Apple Mail, I think it could be very useful.

  • Can iPhone Mail redirect mail to subfolders like the Apple desktop Mail app

In my Mail app on my computer, I have Rules set up so that certain emails from various people get moved to a few different subfolders I have set up. However, in my iPhone, they all come to my primary email address. Is there any way to make iPhone mail behave and redirect certain emails to subfolders? I belong to a few beta test groups and the amount of email is staggering, so I've rather have these emails redirected. Any advice? Thanks.

No - the iPhone does not include a rules feature to sort recieved messages by category, and you can't create mailboxes with the iPhone's Mail client. The iPhone's Mail client is a compliment to the email client used on your computer for accessing the account, not a replacement for.
With an IMAP account along with storing all user created mailboxes on the server for sorting recieved messages by category, all server stored mailboxes will be available with the iPhone's Mail client and kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account. If you keep the Mail.app on your Mac launched and running, any sorting of received messages to user created server stored mailboxes based on rules with the Mail.app on your Mac will be reflected automatically when accessing the account with the iPhone's Mail client. This is not possible with a POP account.

  • Trouble syncing Mail folders/subfolders

Hi to anyone who reads this.
Not sure where to turn for help right now. Apple Tech Support says this is a .Mac problem; .Mac says it's an Apple Tech Support issue. I'm in the inferno.
Like a lot of people, I download a lot of e-mails from the server and put them into folders and subfolders (and sometimes sub-subfolders). Some folders are important; others are not. It is critical that I have access to these important folders over the holidays when I'm not at my iMac. I have a .Mac account, so I should be able to do that. But when I try to sync, the folders don't show up (or...worse...only a few of them show up). For those of you who want to read on, please do.
I initially tried this sync with my folders about two months ago. It didn't work -- it wasn't critical to me then, so I didn't pursue it. What happened then was that I dragged the main folder(s) with several subfolders (and lots of e-mails) from where they sat in my mail program to below the globe icon for my .Mac account. The colorful ball whirled for quite a while. Then I went to the .Mac site, opened my mail and found only a few of the folders and subfolders had transferred. I was frustrated, but I stopped worrying about it.
Fast forward to today. I have a very strong need to have access to those e-mails while I'm away. I have tried to sync many times in the last day. Most recently, I have manually sync'd everything, so I know the sync works for my iCal and address book (although strangely, the automatic one looked like it worked, but it didn't). Nevertheless, the calendar and address books are completely up-to-date. I double-checked that the memory wasn't a problem. It's not. I even increased the storage allotment for mail to 700.
Trying everything I could think of, I went to the .Mac site, opened my folders, deleted the old (incompletely transferred and NEVER effectively synchronized despite autosyncing) folders from a few months ago and started over. (By the way, not that it matters, but the main folders under the globe icon are white, not blue, and the subs are blue...not sure what that means.) I have tried in many ways to get the folders I created in my Mail program to transfer to .Mac by placing them under the globe icon and then pressing the sync button. Nothing seems to work.
Help. Do you know what is wrong? Do you know what department at Mac should be helping me? What else do you need to know to help answer this one? I really need those e-mails -- far, far too many to resend to myself to put on the server over the holidays. Hundreds!! All very important for a conference I am planning.
Thanks so much!!! By the way, I'm a 10.4.3 user. I wish I could tell you whether this happened before or after the upgrade this fall, but honestly, I just don't remember.

the easiest is to use Migration Adssistant (it's in Applications/Utilities). It lets you transfer all your user settings, not just Mail. If you are interested in Mail ONLY, copy the entire folder /users/username/library/mail and the file /users/username/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. when you start Mail after that it will look just as it did on the old computer.
and once that is accomplished is there a way I can keep both mail accounts in sync?
if you use an IMAP email account, this is automatic. if you use POP, it's impossible.
I would like to be able to file or delete an email on one computer and have the same action take place on the other computer.

  • Mailo Notifications For New Mail In Subfolders

We are rolling out Office 365 Microsofts new cloud solution for Exchange and have been running iPhones, iPads and Windows mobiles. Amazingly good response back from useres on the Apple offers which is great. One issue we have is that some users have rules set up on their Exchange inbox where emails are diverted to certain folders accoring to their content or the sender. The iPhone doesn't seem to provide any notification of new mail in these sub folders. Has anyone come across this or even better have a solution or how to handle this?
    Thanks loads
    Grant

That's the main problem in that it needs to show the number. It seems a bit daft that Apple would include the ability for it to play a sound but not show the total number. A prime example is either if you do not have a sound set or perhaps are in a meeting and have the phone on silent. Also it is tedious to have to expand folders to find the one with the mail. If a user has a number of mailboxes as some of ours do, it is very cumbersome to have to view each account and then subfolders to find the additional mail.
With the big Microsoft vs Apple battle starting to hot up with Microsoft launching their Office 365 cloud offering for business this really is something that Apple needs to address to make sure that their iPhone/iPads stay in contention with BES and Windows Mobile etc.
The feedback we have had from Mac users when using a test of the Beta of Microsoft Office 365 with Apple devices (iPhone/iPad) is amazing and even they were happy to admit it made their lives immeasurably easier. Let's just hope Apple rise to the challenge and make these small tweaks to make the devices truly enterprise useable!
I still think Apple should make a user voting system on this site so that people can register with a set amount of votes and assign how many votes they want to a particular feature. Then the public vote would show Apple what people really want! Or let’s get Apple to organise some business forums in the UK as well as the USA so European businesses can input they thoughts on the products.

  • MAIL - IMAP subfolders and notification of new unread mail

I'm trying to get MAIL to notify when new mail is put into a shared IMAP account subfolder.
The mail server is CommuniGatePro with server side rules, sorting incoming mail to one account into subfolders in that account, based on sender mail address.
The sorting works but I have to discard the mail in the Inbox because otherwise I have a copy of every mail left there.
The problems is I can't see any unread mail have arrived until I click the sub-folder.

I don't have as complex a Mail setup, but do have incoming Mail sorted via rules and then distributed into subfolders. Mail doesn't seem able to put it's little red star icon in the dock to recognise these new mails, which is annoying.
In order to quickly read new mail regardless of where the rules had distributed it, I simply reated a Smart mailbox to contain any unread mail, that way I can quickly read it in one place regardless of where it has been stored...

  • Mail in subfolders "ON MY MAC" vanished

4 weeks ago, I switched my mail server to gmail so I could use the IMAP functionality. I opened my mac mail as usual this morning and the mail messages (appr. 1500) had vanished from my subfolders. Unfortunately I had not taken time to setup my time machine yet. Any suggestions?

    This is a Gmail issue.
It is not possible to delete something from Gmail over IMAP: Gmail doesn't let you do this.  When you "delete" something from Mail, it "deletes" it from the Mac.  However, if you show the "All Mail" folder, you will see ALL your email in Gmail.
There are 2 solutions to this:
    1)  If you go to your Gmail web account, you can select which Gmail labels are shown over IMAP.  You should disable "All Mail" so you won't see the folder in Mail.
    2)  From the Gmail web interface, you can actually permanently delete emails.  Go ahead and delete them there and they will be gone forever from Gmail, and from Mail.
This is not something Apple can address.  It's how Gmail implements IMAP, which is totally nonstandard.

  • Filing mail while sending

I am a past Lotus Notes user. One of the features I used extensively was the capability was filing an email in a user created folder when sending the email. I can't find this feature in Apple Mail. Does it exist or is there a workaround? IF not I would highly recommend that Apple incorporate this feature in its next version of Mail. I use Mail folders as that prime means of managing projects. It's a pain to manually drag files from the Send folder to one of my user-created folders.

I've been looking for this option too as in the past I've used this functionality with both Notes and Exchange. I haven't come across a solution, but some suggestions have been made on this site in the past.

It looks like this may not be possible unfortunately.

  • Filing mail using the keyboard?

I have recently switched to Apple Mail, which I have to say is very fast - much faster than Thunderbird. It's very slick and I'm very happy with it.
On Thunderbird I had a really useful add-on with which I could file mail into a specific folder simply by using a keyboard shortcut. I would then be presented an auto-completing text box where I would start to type in the name of the folder where I wanted the message filed.
Is there an equivalent facility in Apple Mail? I can use the mouse of course, but it's so much slower.
    Thanks in advance.

In that case, then you're going to feel better using stuff like MailTags or Act-on. I prefer smartfolders because the are... smart ?
Having Unread, Flagged, Today, Yesterday, 3 days, week, month, last month, Threads, Recently Viewed, Recently Sent, Co-Workers, Family, Friends, Attachments, 2007, 2006, ..2005, etc... I think that I make an interesting use of the smart folders. But, of course, this cannot apply to your IMAP setup and desire to replicate this on every application (Web, iPhone, etc.)
    Good Luck then!
