Missing audio edits in YouTube

I load iMovie 11 media file into GB for my audio editing.  Works great and then I SHARE as a Quicktime .mov.  Quicktime .mov now plays back as it should with ALL my audio edits.  Then I upload this file by dragging and dropping the .mov file into YouTube (Yes, it's the correct file) and when played back on YouTube, only original unedited audio track is played back............
My analysis:  There must be multiple tracks in the .mov IMHO and Quicktime knows which ones to playback but only the original track is read by YouTube.  This may be BS on my part.......  I don't think I am doing anything wrong but believe there is a bug running around somewhere.......
Anyone have any ideas how to correct this?
I have the latest iMovie 11 and Garageband and Quicktime running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
BTW, I got this idea for editing iMovie audio in Garageband and Garageband is all set up to do this, from David Pogue Missing Manual.  Other then the YouTube problem, it works great.  You have all these tracks to work with for sound effects, voice overs, music and panning with complete control.

FLATTEN FIXED IT!
When "SHARE" to Quicktime, you can use H.264 or Mpeg 4 but to FLATTEN the audio tracks, I used AAC and when uploaded to YT, it all was there!
Thanks to all who volunteered the FLATTEN idea!  I had called Apple and they said it wasn't their problem as the QT .mov file played back okay while in Apple territory.
THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP!

  • Recording audio directly from YouTube?

    I'm curious here:
Working on a film.  Producer wants to do some sequence tests.  Producer wants to use, for the tests, a particular Vivaldi piece from YouTube.  I can easily buy other versions of that same music from iTunes, but he wants to use THAT version.  This is a test.  The film is well financed and he plans to pay for a license for the music if it works for him, once the film is edited.
I'm trying to think of a way I could 'rip' the audio from the YouTube piece (directly from YouTube) for this test, using Logic perhaps?  I don't want to record it off my speakers.
Is there a way to record something like that internally in the computer ... or feeding it out and back in through a simple M-Audio Fasttrack Pro?  Hate to display obvious ignorance here ... but would love to know if, and how, one might do this?
    Ben

    Hi Jim,
Most perfect.  What a lovely device.  Thrilled I am.  Works like a dream.  I'll buy a license.
    Very much appreciated, thank you,
    Ben

  • Missing Audio in iDVD burns

Okay, I have seen several posts and suggestions on how to get the sound back on the dvd with iDVD, but nothing seems to work. I have tried EVERYTHING, except for the option that I am doing right now, but if that's how it has to work, I don't NEED itunes.
    iMovie project, sounds great
exports to my iPOD just fine (with audio)
no audio when it reaches my DVD
    Equipment used:
    933 mhz PowerMac G4
LaCie DVD±RW Double Layer (which replaced my no longer compatible superdrive)
    Plenty of Hard Drive space
    maxed out 1.5GB Ram
    OS X 10.4.8
I get the video, but no audio
I have already tried going into ADVANCE and clicking [Delete Encoded Assets]
I have also taken any Quicktime modifications off my computer (Flip 4 Mac)
I am now in the process of burning a Disc Image and testing it, with 933mhz, this takes a while.
    Any other suggestions?
Thanks, and I know this is a frequent question, I just couldn't find the answer.

    MacGreen:
I had a similar situation. There were 2 separate iMovie6 projects (both 16 bit audio) that were brought into a single iDVD6 project. When I mounted/viewed generated image file, one movie had audio and the other did not. Somehow audio was not included in encoded video files for the 2nd movie.
Problem might be related to fact that total size of encoded video files (in VIDEO_TS) was approaching limit of single sided DVD (4+ GB). I noticed that if I did trick of exporting/importing full DV in iMovie, then bringing back into iDVD, for some reason, the total size of encoded video files was now less that 4GB. Maybe that gave room for audio in 2nd movie.
Or maybe its not related. I did not have any missing audio problems like this using iMovie5/iDVD5 combo (and earlier versions) and I made a bunch of DVDs of varying sizes using those packages. Seems like a bug somewhere. I know you are using FCE. Can you export edited projects as DV and bring back into iMovie6 then into iDVD6?
Let us all know if you get your project working properly.
    Good Luck.

  • Missing Audio / Sound in imovie with .AVI files when imported from iphoto

fortunately i don't need this answered, eventually figured it out my self, just thought it would be helpful to share the solution to this problem as I'm sure others have experienced it. The problem makes more sense when explained chronologically.
My wife has a Casio digital camera, and had recorded many Movies on it, they all sat in iPhoto all worked fine until i upgraded to Quicktime 7.5, then the audio disappeared. i tried in vain to fix (reinstalled QT 7.5, removed plugins, reinstalled etc.), but to no avail, so i left it - this was all under Tiger, i decided I'd upgrade to Leopard and see if the problem went away.
Before upgrading to Leopard i got iLife 08, when i first launched iMovie08 it pulled in all the movies from iPhoto, but they too had no sound.
Then i upgraded to Leopard, now the quicktime missing audio issue got fixed, so i could hear the audio again when launching quicktime via iPhoto (turns out the issue was with how quicktime was handling adaptive PCM audio stream) - i expected all would be fine in iMovie... but it wasnt.
after much experimentation i realised that i had to force iMovie to re-import all the video from iPhoto, this fixed the issue, but with no obvious way to do this, this is what i did:
    - opened finder, navigated to iphoto library, right click and chose 'show package contents'
    - navigated to the data folder and did a search on this folder only for all movie files (when imovie had originally converted iPhoto movie files into thumbnails it dropped all the thumb size movie files in this folder)
    - deleted all the movie files from the Data folder, making sure not to delete the movie files in any other folders & emptied trash
    - launched imovie, now all the iphoto movies were missing.
    - re-launch iPhoto, whilst holding down shift, option + command keys
    - checked 'rebuild the iphoto library database' only, once done, closed iphoto
    - re-launched imovie, this forced it to re-import all the movies from iphoto
... and then the sound was back.
    FYI
    this worked when using...
    OS 10.5.4
    QT 7.5
    iMovie 7.1.4
    iPhoto 7.1.4

    Hi MGW,
I do not no how things are handled when using HDV and technical documentation is hard to find on this topic of how photo are handled using HDV but in iMovie and most non HDV video editing software the picture is always 72ppi regardless of what is was/is on the outside and the images that appear the worst are the ones with less.
On a side note I don't use iPhoto because of all the superfluous files and thumbnails it creates and it disorganises my photos according to criteria that is completely irrelevant to me. I have had these thumbnails pop up in the browser in the past primarily with any photos that existed in the library prior to any updates. With what I have been working on as of late can understand how and why this could happen.
If you scroll through the media browser dose it appear that the library you are working with duplicates itself somewhere along the line or do you see double images side by side?
What are you machine specs and please include you screen/display size and graphics card information as this is the most relevant information at this point with what you are doing.

  • How can you do audio editing with fcpx

I want to know why was the audio in FCPX have such a big limitation of its audio editing, I want to leave the original clip sound but adding a music background and during the clip playback I want to rise and lower the volume in some portion of the clip I use to do that with FCP studio, but with FCPX you could only drag one point up or down and not a portion of the clip. Is there a work around on this or do I have to send these people from apple some feeback, on audio editing.

funny - I find your method more than complicated: switching to the range tool is a single click operation, and then just dragging - done.
precision is accomplished a) by magnification, b) by setting in/out traditionally with I and O, c) shifting the 'rough selection' manually, or, at last d) first setting Markers and snap the Range Tool to it.

  • How do I route audio from a YouTube video to AU Lab using SoundFlower so that I can capture the YouTube video's sound stream?

How do I route audio from a YouTube video to AU Lab using SoundFlower so that I can capture the YouTube video's sound stream?

Attach camera via USB or put card in card reader.
Go to FCP, and go to the Log and TRANSFER window.
If FCP recognizes the card, you will see your clips listed on the left.
You can view them, set Ins and Outs, and import just what you want.
Once you choose a section of video and import it, FCP converts (transcodes) from its original camera format to Apple ProRes422 - a more edit friendly video file.

  • Audio editing across tracks after OMF/AAF import problems

    Hi there,
I'm having difficulty getting my head around the way STP handles multiple-mono audio files.  I'm lucky enough in my job to have a choice of audio editing tools for what I'm working on.  For speech I use SADiE, for more complex projects involving automation I'll often use ProTools & for podcasting I find that STP is pretty good - especially for enhanced podcasts with pictures & web-links etc.
So now to my problem.  I've brought an OMF project, from ProTools, home to work on in STP. The import went smoothly, every thing in the right place & sounds ok.  However, all the stereo audio files are now split across 2 tracks; 1 track for the left leg another track for the right leg.   I can't now edit the stereo content in any easy form.  I've tried using the 'blade all' tool to cut across the 2 tracks, but I can't then delete & ripple the audio.  This leaves me with a gap that I have to manually close.  Needless to say, I'm finding this frustrating as it's making what should be a simple process un-neccessarily long-winded.
Both ProTools & SADiE allow me to group files like this so that they can be treated like a stereo file.  I've looked everywhere, but I can't see a function in STP that does the same.  Am I missing something obvious?  I can't be the only person who's had to deal with files like this can I?
The only workaround I've found is to use the export command to bounce the 2 tracks to a stereo file, however, this loses any existing edits so I can't unpick them if there are problems.
Any ideas anyone?  Can this be done or should I just stick to my other audio tools for this sort of thing?
    Thanks

ProTools uses WAV, in fact it uses the Broadcast Wav standard. The problem is the way it handles files. It still splits stereo files into separate L & R files. It's just that it hides this from the user. When you drag a stereo file in from PT's region list (the equivalent of STP's bin) to the playlist, the two files appear as one as they should do. The downside is that OMF/AAF export still treats them as individual files.
My problem is that I was halfway through an edit when I tried to move it from one system to another. If the edit was complete & just needed mixing, then it would have been less of an issue.
But you're right, there's probably some tool on the net that will solve this issue
    Cheers

  • Can anyone recomend a simple quick audio editing application?

I use Audio Hijack Pro to record all kinds of audio ( e.g. streamed radio, skype calls, voice recordings), all these files are then stored in a folder ready for use later. I often need to trim the beginning and end of these recordings in order to cut off bits of silence or superfluous speech, and I have been doing this in Garageband but this is a rather tedious method as each recording has to be a new project.
What I would like is a simple timeline audio editing application that would just allow me to import the file and open it as a simple waveform and cut and splice the bits accordingly. I think (?) that Quicktime Pro used to do this but I only have Quicktime 10.
Can anyone suggest or recommend such an application? Free or cheap would be good!
    Thanks.

You are missing out if you don't use Fission, this is also by Rogue Amoeba. It is integrated fully with AudioHijack Pro for seamless editing.
    Hope this solves your problem.

  • External HD and Destructive Audio Editing

    Howdy, Folks!
I'm planning on utilizing an external HD to house active LE7 projects. I also plan on having LE7 copy files into the project folder. I may have missed this in the volumes of text online and packaged with the software, but are destructive audio edits made to original files or copies of files located in project folders?
(I hope it's the file copies that get edited. This, and prevention of HD I/O contamination between writing audio and accessing the program itself, are the reasons I plan to use an external HD...)
    Much thanks for the wisdom!

Given what I found in the Reference, I'd rather play it safe until I'm absolutely certain. That citation sounded to me as if it were not a copy. Looked as if it would require that extra step.
Then I tried this: I made a throwaway .aif speaking directly into my iBook mic and I put it on the desktop. I used LE's Audio window to select and open that file and place it into an arrange window. There I opened it and edited it substantially in the Sample Editor. That file -- in my .lso's audio window -- lost lots of weight, from 1.3MB down to 164kb. The original file remains on my desktop, still 1.3MB, waveform unaltered.
SO it looks as if the ORIGINAL file stays untouched. That does make sense -- it's reasonable -- but reasonable doesn't always win out, and at least until I know for sure, I'd always rather err on the conservative side.
Still, in case I've inadvertently left out a detail, or stated something inaccurately, I'd encourage you to try it out *for yourself* to be absolutely sure. A few minutes of preventive experimenting will help you learn best (as it did here for me).
    best,
    c

  • Audio editing - scrub

I'm working with the Audio>Edit feature in Captivate 2.0.
It's generally effective but I am missing the ability to "scrub" -
hearing audio as the payback head is dragged back and forth. The
lack of scrub is making it difficult for me to locate very tight
edit points accurately. Is there some setting that I'm missing that
    enables a scrub?

    Hi kathyn
No, not that I'm aware of are you missing anything resembling
a scrub. I'm guessing you are already familiar with the editor
dialog, but just in case. If you click the Play button (or
Spacebar) either action is actually a toggle. So you click Play and
click the same button again to Pause. This should give you fairly
close control over those tight points. Once you pause, note that
you are able to reposition the playhead using the left and right
arrow keys for a more precise placement. In conjunction with this,
if the area is really tight, I'd also zoom in quite a bit so the
points are more obvious in the waveform.
    Cheers... Rick

  • In Place Audio Editing

Are there any plans to further support/ expand in place audio editing for Logic? I really miss being able to apply and print a plug-in to a specific region from a drop down menu or right click like I can in Cubase and Pro Tools. If Apple can get that sorted I'll have virtually no need to reach for another DAW.

    Ruis MacDoo wrote:
Can you automate the plugin to work on an individual region. I do this with Sony Dynamics and EQ, saves doing it on another track as the other poster said.
Really a time consuming workaround for direct audio editing using any of your installed plugins. I almost always know how I want to edit and for brevity's sake I find it much easier to just go ahead and make the edit. For audio only sessions I use Cubase for this very reason, plus Cubase has a modern audio editor, one of the most functional and elegant available in a DAW.
The disadvantage of using an external editor is being able to quickly audition your edits in place, but yes, it's better than no choices at all.

  • No audio when playing YOUTUBE videos on ipod touch via a docking station

Hi there, when my ipod touch is docked on its docking station, it will not play audio on youtube videos, it will play the video but not the audio through the docking station speaker. It used to play audio without problems before, but recently it has stopped. When i take the ipod touch off the docking station the audio on the youtube video returns. any ideas why this has happened? it plays the youtube audio through the head phones too, i can play all other audio through the docking station speakers with out a problem.

There are no setting to change on the iPod.
Have you updated either the firmware on the car or on the iPod since they last played in the car?
    This may work:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Video-  missing audio sound

missing audio content when I record video on ipad. Any ideas on how to fix?

    Judyqw3-
Have you verified that your iPad microphone is working?  One way would be to install the free Skype iPad App, which has an on-line audio test capability.
If the microphone is not working, contact Apple.  If you can demonstrate the problem to the Apple Store Genius, you may get a new iPad on the spot.

  • Pro Tools Missing  audio file message syndrom exists on Logic

I come from Pro tools and i am a bit traumatised by this fkn Pro Tools missing audio file message for those who know what i mean..
Is it something possible and frequent in logic when we work on a daily basis ?

No, you simply copy the entire project folder to a flash drive and bring it home. If you have included the audio files in the project folder, which logic does by default, logic will find them just fine at home. If it asks where they are, you just hit "search" and if they're there, If you've copied the song file to your drive without including the audio files ("pilot error") then  the program can't find them. Often, I get protools sessions from clients with missing files. Sometimes the entire audio files folder is missing, but more often the missing files are out-takes that are no longer part of the arrangement, and were still in the audio file list of the song, but were not included in the folder when the project was copied and brought to me. How or why, I cannot tell you.

  • **Missing Audio when Exporting to HD**

    Hi,
I have been trying to find a solution to missing audio for sometime and there are many discussions on this forum regarding this topic. I have an external drive and in the past I have lost audio, I guess because the event and the project were on different drives, I have resolved that. Also, the problem that I have is not related to the speed of a clip or that I have more than 10GB in my events (I don't). There have been other audio issues and I have always been able to resolve them but this one has me stumped! I thought that perhaps the graphics card was not up to the task but this has just happened and now I am confused.
I have just completed a project that was only 3 minutes long 403.5 MB. The movie was imported to iMovie from my video camera and listed as an Event, I also used movie clips and stills from iPhoto, I added titles and transitions. I then exported the movie to Media Browser (mobile size) so that I could import it into Garage Band to make an soundtrack. I then exported the soundtrack as an AAC to iTunes (as I have read that there are issues with MP3 and audio missing). I then opened iMovie and dragged the soundtrack into my project and republished the completed project to Media Browser in the HD size. No problem all works well, I was really happy! Onwards I thought and get another 2010 video finished, wrong!
On my next project I have done everything that I have described above, this time the project is only 349.8 MB (smaller). The audio on the HD size has failed. I have copied all the files onto my desktop and reimported everything. I have tried exporting using Quicktime or as a Movie but still no audio. I have found that the 'consolidate media' is grayed out when I have all my clips in the project editor, because they are all on my hard drive. As soon as I add the iTunes track that I have exported from Garageband the consolidate media option becomes available. If I select this I then get the message that the iTunes track cannot be copied as it is not on my hard drive! It is on my hard drive (I disconnected all external drives so that there would be no confusion!).
I cannot understand how the first project worked and the second smaller project failed using the same process! I thought that I would share this information with the forum in the hope that perhaps a solution can be found. I am able to publish the second project to my mobile me in the large and mobile sizes, it would be good to have the HD size for a DVD. There seems to be no logical pattern to the audio disappearing on export. Your thoughts or help would be very welcome.
    Kind regards,
    Watchthebat.

In Soundtrack if you have selected to use only channel 2 of a stereo file (right click on stereo file and select mono->channel2) you will hear channel 1 when you export. Its a massive bug.
Could that be the source of your problems? The bug can certainly create exported mixes that sound like stuff is missing.
There's a recent thread around here about this.
