Missing bootmgr

Hi all.  Need help.  Just purchased from HP the recovery media for my netbook. (HP mini 311-1100).  Popped the disck in followed the onscreen instructions and after a "sucessful recovery" i get a "bootmgr missing" error.  Contacted HP and they were no help bevause my mini is out of warranty.  Bad disc?  Bad HD?  Need Help bad.  Running windows XP home.  Completed the "recovery" 3 times with same result.
upset at HP

Greetings,
Fortunately, the hard disk tests have proven me wrong. With passing both long and short tests, there is only an approximate chance of it still being faulty a hard disk of around 5%. My next question is this, will it let you get into the recovery manager now that you have installed off the External DVD? On the HP Logo screen, press the Escape key. After that menu appears, press the F11 to enter recovery. If it hangs on a black screen, the installation disks did not install that partition properly; if it did, then you should be in business. Please keep us advised.
Good luck
Brent
Ps. I am currently checking to see if all of your USB ports are 2.0 capable. There is a (slight) possibility that you are plugging into a USB 1.0 or a 3.0 (without the proper drivers) port that could be causing this error as well.
Good Luck

  • Missing Bootmgr - Satellite A135-S7404

I have an A135-S7404 which was continually going through the Startup Repair when turning it on.  Since there was nothing I could do to stop it, I looked to see what came with the computer to try to reinstall the operating system.  I found the unopened Recovery and Applications disk.  I followed the directions and installed it.  Once it was complete, I got the "Missing Bootmgr" message and was unable to do anything.  I followed the directions on the forum regarding downloading the "Vista Recovery Disk" and now have a CD with the file "Windows Vista 32-bit Repair Disc" on it.
I tried to boot the computer with it and I still got the Missing Bootmgr message.  Does this mean the hard drive is shot or is there something else I can try?

i turns out that it might be your hard drive. I have a satellite a215-s7416 and was getting the same error number i could not run the recovery disc because it would stop. I looked around in the internet and tried what they recommended. I switched out my hard drive and ran the recovery disc and it worked. I bought my hard drive from newegg.com. I hope this helps you. My laptop was only 6 months old and i almost threw it away.

  • Missing BOOTMGR on Satellite C660

    Hi folks,
    I have Satellite C660,
at first i had a virus, and tried to reinstall windows, but no good.
When it came up to the point of saying there was not enough space on the disk to install windows,
I realised i had forgot about the partition bit.
Now when i try to boot up again, its a black screen which says..BOOTMGR..manager..is missing.
So when i try to boot up again, i get to the same point about not enough space on the disk
so im going round in circles, and getting no where,
I'm thinking about getting a new hard drive, but does anyone know how to fix this before i do have to buy a new drive.. cheers

Missing boot manager is a common error message which appears if the notebook cannot find and boot the system.
So you have to find the reason why the system cannot be found.
I think its HDD problem. Probably the HDD or system partition is faulty.
In my opinion you should access the BIOS and should check if the HDD is listed on the first BIOS page.
In case it does not appear in the first BIOS page, the HDD isnt recognized and therefore I think it should be replaced before trying to install the system again.

  • How tot get rid of missing bootmgr ctrl alt del to restart

I've got a MacBook pro and I tried installing windows through bootcamp but when I did I had to burn windows 7 to a DVD and when it was burning, it said burn fail verification fail. I ignored this and used that DVD to install but when I did it stopped installing and it stayed an 0% so I cancelled it and thought I can do it again but when I tried again it said bootmgr missing.
I searched on how to fix this and I found a person with a similar problem and I was told in that forum to put in my leopard dvd and hold down c at the start and so i did but my laptop came with snow leopard and I have installed lion on it so I don't know what to do.... It is still doing something after I put in the DVD and held down c.
    I Need Help!
    Thx...
    Mas

    Hi,
Although im new to answering questions, i had have had a similar problem myself to this. You should boot into the Recovery Snow Leopard DVD and try and access the build in Disk Utility, although i am not sure if it is present on the Snow Leopard it definetly is on the Lion DVD. Once you are on Disk Utility try to partition your hard drive, any amount however small and then partition back to the old partition. This in my experience should reset the boot files.
    Hope this helps, Good Luck!
Please leave feedback if this works for you!
    Thanks
(You should always but the official Windows 7 disk and make a backup of your laptop regularly, and always make sure the disk is verified (dont touch your laptop while it burns)

I just bought a lenovo ts140 with no OS
I've installed operating systems before with no problems on computers, so I assumed it would be the same for this.
I have windows 7 ultimate x64 on disc and window 7 home premium on USB.
trying to install either, the usual way, boot from device (disc or USB) and both just say
Press any key to boot from (USB / disc, depending on which I am installing from)
    Bootmgr is missing...
Press ctrl alt del to restart
    There is currently no OS.

This sounds like a problem with the image itself. Do you have a different image you can use? I've seen this before with a bad image.

  • Missing BOOTMGR Windows Vista No Disk

    Hello,
I need some help.  After doing a "Factory Recovery," my laptop won't boot to windows vista.  After booting, it won't finish the "Factory Recovery" process, and it ends with a black screen with the words "Missing BOOT MGR Crtl+Alt+Esc."
The laptop(G60-125NR) didn't come with anything.  I HAVE NO DISK OF WINDOWS VISTA.  It was only already installed in the laptop.
Can anyone help me with this?
    Here are the details.
I tried pressing F11 or F10 - the factory recovery screen - and used both the hard drive partition and then the recovery disks I created before the factory recovery-thing.  Hard drive ended with error 1005 and using the disk I got error 1002.  Both telling me to contact HP.
Purchased a Boot Disk and it got me to System Recovery Options.  There, I could not select on any operating system.  I don't even know which Drives to add.  Plus, as I was trying to see in the folderfs, nothing was comming up. So I just clicked on Next and tried the Startup Repair option.  After a while it said that Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically.  It still says MissingBootManager on the details.
At the Windows Boot Manager screen,
    Windows Setup [EMS Enabled]
    But on the tools;
    File \boot\memtest.exe
    Status: oxcoooooof
Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupted.
I hope you can help me.  Thank you.

Actually there are no comments regarding Vista version under notes for 10.2.0.3.
If You look at certify matrix under
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/metalink/index.html
and search by Platform, then under Vista and 10gR2 You will see following notes:
Oracle Database (EE, SE, PE and Client) are supported on these platforms:
    Business edition
    Enterprise Edition
    Ultimate Edition
    Home edition is not supported!
    But what I can suggest.
Look into listner.log - are there any errors.
Try to restart listener from the command line
    lsnrctl stop
    lsnrctl start
    Try to recreate listener service

  • Harddrive issues

Long story short, OS failed to boot into windows with a message of BOOTMGR missing, recovery disc not working, ordered new recovery discs from HP.  To cover,  I ordered a new harddrive to replace it, Toshiba with same specs but a 1TB.
Ok installed harddrive and used recovery discs from HP but on restart still get error message of missing BOOTMGR.  Made a new recovery disc for windows 7 64bit off internet and burned to a bootable CD.  It boots up but found recovery doesn't list a OS system on hardrive.   Did the hard restart more than once,  checked hardrive install again, cables and connections.  Ran another install from the HP recovery discs and also ran a bootable disc that was to repair issues with installing a new HHD and enabling the HHD to work correctly. Still nothing working. Get same message.  Threw recovery manager got into command prompt and did a repair of the bootrec / nothing again. Checked directory and found at bottom of list it lists zero OS system.  So how do I get my harddrive formatted to accept the OS install? Any ideas to try, I've read and tried all posts I could fine on this forum.   thanks..
    This question was solved.

Thanks for the reply,  yes my harddrive failed and I installed a new one, but after using the HP recovery disc purchased though HP, computer showed a error screen in black saying bootmgr was missing.
Found out the HP discs partitioned the new harddrive, with windows on X:\ but was booting to C:\ which was just a recovery image.   X drive wasn't complete, was missing all drivers and could not activate the drive or change drive letter to C. I didn't know how to do this in command prompt.
Fixed my issue with a windows 7 installation disc not the recovery discs that came from HP, hopefully they will work to reinstall all drivers to the laptop, but we will see.  Used (repair my computer) on the installation disc and it repaired the bootmgr.  thanks anyway......

  • Boot up problem ; My G31TM - P35 with Windows 7 OS cannot see my SATA drive

I recently bought a new g31tm-p35 motherboard with Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. I also bought a Seagate 500 g harddrive (SATA) and installed my old IDE harddrive. I loaded Windows 7 (32) Pro OS. My problem is that when I boot up my PC, it does not always see my SATA harddrive (drive D) where my OS is loaded on. It sees my old harddrive (c) but there is no OS loaded on that drive. It then gives me a "missing BOOTMGR" error. Can anyone help?

Try another SATA data cable and ensure it's fully seated and no sharp kinks in it, ensure SATA power cable is fully seated or try a different SATA power plug from the PSU. I had a similar problem not long ago and it was due to a PSU power problem for SATA that required a new PSU to fix it.

  • Boot from VHD generates Error 0xc03a0001

So I created a VHDX which contains an installed windows 7 environment.
Booted my windows 8.1 environment, attached the vhdx and added the VHDX environment to my boot.
    BCDBOOT F:\WINDOWS
    Reboot, choose windows 7 and get this error;
0xc03a0001 -> An unexpected error has occurred.
When I lookup this error, it means "The virtual hard disk is corrupted. The virtual hard disk drive
    footer is missing."
So I re-created the vhdx and the system on it, but it spawns the same error.

i found this article maybe very useful to investigate your issue
    http://reboot.pro/topic/16141-troubleshooting-os-boot-from-vhd/
    VHD BOOT TROUBLESHOOTING
VHD boot problems are rare, when following exactly the Tutorials linked in this Post Signature. Most are caused by a corrupted BCD (Boot Configuration Datastore) or missing boot-critical disk & controller drivers, enabling reading the VHD or hard disk
where its saved. If they occur, follow the troubleshooting steps for natively supported & unsupported OS boot from VHD:
    1) install latest Windows Virtual PC (with 1024Mb+ RAM assigned), attach Win7 VHD to it as IDE disk and try to boot as hard drive. If it doesn't, it may be because of missing or errors in BCD, missing Bootmgr, mismatch of disk Sig, or incorrect partition
offset set in BCD, DetectHAL element is Off or missing, missing disk driver, or volume wasn't marked Active. This may occur, since Win7 & ThinPC may lack BCD sample store in their WindowsBoot folder, resulting in wrong BCD structure when using BCDBoot
command to add BCD to the new VHD. To fix, use suggested repair sequence. However, if you face 0x7B error during boot from VHD, you may need to add missing disk driver(s) entries to VHD's OS Registry, and add the driver installation packages, so that OS can
autoinstall the drivers after boot. Read this and that explanation threads, and use suitable tools, like included with IMG_XP driver utilities and its collection of Registry fixes. Or, once you found missing driver INF packages, attach the VHD, mount its OS
Volume to an empty folder and inject the drivers offline with DISM as per Install Unsupported OS to VHD Tutorial. If the VHD boots after that, proceed to step 2.
    2) copy that Win7 VHD from HD to a bigger fixed contiguous VHD, add boot environment to the bigger VHD disk with EasyBCD or Visual BCD Editor installed on your system HD, add Win7 boot entry to it, attach the big VHD to Win VPC as IDE disk, try to boot Win7
from VHD natively inside VPC. If it doesn't, fix the big VHD's BCD using the below repair sequence. After it does, proceed to step 3, if you want test booting with Grub4DOS & WinVBlock.
    3) add Grub4DOS to the big VHD, fully install WinVBlock to Win7 after booting it natively from VHD or as IDE disk inside VPC, make Win7 VHD contiguous, attach the big VHD to the Win VPC as IDE disk, try to boot Win7 VHD from it via G4D & WinVBlock menu.
If errors, try to find matching versions of Grub4DOS & WinVBlock (older G4D may work well with WinVBlock - Feb. 2011, can take from wimb's IMG_XP folder). If Grub4DOS shows "File not found" error on boot, and the file name is correct in its Menu,
the problem seems to be in mounting the large VHD disk. You must reboot G4D to continue tests or restore original disk mapping. Make sure to test sign WinVBlock 64-bit, and switch On Test Mode in Win7 64-bit, or use F8 at boot. Should boot... but at times
WinVBlock disk may cause OS instability & file access issues after boot.
Boot troubleshooting requires some practice, so easy way to start - native boot VHDs & EasyBCD.
REPAIR BCD STORE WITH VISUAL BCD EDITOR
    - Boot Win7 from your host drive, attach the VHD with related to BCD boot problems, when attached to VPC as hard drive
    - Make sure OS volume on VHD is marked as Primary & Active, and mount it as V: drive
    - Start Visual BCD Editor, open BCD Store from V:BootBCD
    1. If there is no BCD Store on the VHD:
    - Select Repair Boot Record from Menu, select V: , tick Vista/7&Fix MBR --> OK,
    - Select Repair BCD from Menu, BCD Drive V: , Win7 folder V:Windows --> OK
    - Exit Visual BCD Editor, detach the VHD and reboot in VPC to check if the errors were fixed
    2. If there is BCD Store on the VHD:
    - Delete all entries under Loaders section on the Left Pan
    - Click Edit Boot-Menu, delete all Boot Entries from the DisplayOrder list
    - Proceed to Repair Boot Records, then Repair BCD from Menu
    - Reload BCD from the VHD by selecting Open Store again from Menu
    - Add any missing OS Loaders in Loaders section on the Left Pan, and rename their entries as you like
    - Click on each entry on the Left Pan, and inspect its elements on the Right Pan. Make sure they make sense for the hard drive boot, are similar to a reference VHD's BCD that boots OK (GUIDs may differ), and linked to correct BCD Objects GUIDs
    - Click Edit Boot-Menu, and add or edit boot entries list and display order to match Loaders list on the Left Pan
    - Exit Visual BCD Editor, detach the VHD and reboot in VPC to check if the errors were fixed
    REPAIR BCD STORE WITH EASYBCD
You can use EasyBCD instead of Visual BCD Editor to create or repair a BCD store:
    - Install and start EasyBCD
    - Select BCD Store on the VHD, using File Menu and open it
    1. If there is no BCD Store:
    - select BCD Deployment on the Left Pan, click Install MBR, then select partition V: --> Install BCD
    - Click Add New Entry --> Windows Vista/7 --> Drive V: --> Add Entry
    - Exit EasyBCD, detach the VHD and reboot in VPC to check if the errors were fixed
    2. If there is BCD Store:
    - select BCD Backup/Repair on the Left Pan, tick Recreate/Repair Boot Files --> Peform Action, then tick Reset BCD Configuration --> Perform Action
    - Exit EasyBCD, detach the VHD and reboot in VPC to check if the errors were fixed
    - If not, reattach the VHD as V: drive, open Console, run bcdboot v:windows /s v: to recreate BCD manually
    - Detach the VHD and reboot in VPC to check if the errors were fixed
    - If not, boot from the VHD natively from the host's Boot Menu (if its OS supports native boot from VHD), install EasyBCD and try fixing VHD BCD Store and boot sectors with it, then test boot again
    - If it still doesn't boot, and you added all required boot time drivers to OS on the VHD, post the exact boot error and Windows Safe Mode driver load step, when the error occurred, in a new thread asking for help.
sorry for the long copy paste

  • Dv9910us recovery

The DV9910us is a a colleages computer. He went thru 3 friends who tried to upgrade to windows 7 64bit OS. In that process which failed, they had tried bios upgrades and somewhere in that process lost use of the dvd drive, they completely wiped the hard disk after that and couldnt get the OS back on. Thats when I got it. To the point...I removed the hard disk and put the image of another computer on it along with an Vista 32 fresh image to build the correct OS. That worked to get the OS on line however the DVD player is still not recognized by the OS. So I gave in to ordering the Restore disks thinking I could image them on to a usb stick or the hard disk,  I got the missing bootmgr message. The actual instructions state insert the disk and follow instructions. Theres nothing about booting. I examined the disk and it doesnt appear to have boot sys files. So how does one really use them? I mean you order these disks to restore your computer to factory purchase because your computer is corrupted or wont boot to start with? So what do you do?

You boot from the Recovery Disks.

  • Express Card 34 Boot Drive?

I have been hearing about these new ssd's incredible performance and looked into getting one. only problem is if you want a decent capacity, you pay hundreds. So I was wondering, could you get like a 32gb flash memory express card 34 and use it as a boot drive and use your original hdd for storage? If so that would be great. Does anyone know?

    John-F,
What do you mean you tried to update the OS while the drive was in the Express Card Slot and the update appears to have completed? Which update specifically? Also, the OS update doesn't help you when you're trying to boot from it because it's not recognized in the BIOS; at least my BIOS. I have a Lenovo U110 and was able to clone the OEM drive after using Paragon Partition Manager Magic 9.0 and Drive Clone. Unfortunately my OEM drive are bigger than my SSD, therefore I had to move all the files off my OEM drive except for the Windows 7 install which brought the OEM size below the size of the ExpressCard SSD. Once I did that, I could successfully clone the OEM drive. However, upon boot up to the new SSD cloned drive, it failed on the boot manager missing bootmgr files. I also have a RunCore SSD that's a 64GB 1.8" PATA Zif that just arrived Friday and I've been trying to get it to work as well. Neither drive says Windows can be installed to each respective disk because "the computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk". I don't believe this is a BIOS issue because there isn't a BIOS update to the U110 so I'm not sure how cloning the drive helps in this situation because if it can't be recognized during a Windows install, how's it going to be recognized post clone and first boot up? That just doesn't make sense to me, but I've seen stranger things happen with technology.
Any ideas here? My end goal is to use the RunCore SSD 1.8" Zif as my primary drive, and the 48GB FileMate SolidGO ExpressCard Ultra SSD as a secondary mainly Read drive so that I can maintain the 115MB/sec throughput as much as possible.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Tried installing Windows Vista, cancelled install and now it won't boot from the OEM Vista DVD, all i get is BOOTMGR is missing error... Ctrl Alt Del to restart and when i turn the computer on i get a blank screen and pressing C is not working to boot....

    Topic says it all...
My friend started a installation of Windows Vista, but pulled out after deleting all partitions...
So now i power it on, get a blank screen (seems a bit gray because of backlighting, should show the apple logo right?)...
Then after like 15-20sec it will throw out a:
    BOOTMGR is missing
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
I have a OEM Windows Vista DVD in the drive, and i know... Windows 7 is better... but i'm not that fond of stealing software from Microsoft and i have 10 licenses for Vista...
I have tried pressing C while booting up but it doesn't work...
Does anyone here have a magic soloution for me, and no i will not install MacOS on it !!!

Deleting Boot Camp partitions the conventional way will not work . You must use the Boot Camp Assistant to remove a Boot Camp partition. Here is a link to the guide.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup_10.6.pdf
The way to restart is to hold down the option/alt key during startup* and then selecting the Mac OS. If you have a valid Boot Camp install of Windows it would show up during this type of start up.
    * hold down immediately after pressing the power button and until the OS choice screen appears.
    To summarize.
1 Use the above method to boot into Mac OS.
2 Download the instructions and read them.
3 Use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the partition.
4 Pick your friends more carefully.

  • Dv7 bootmgr is missing error

I have an HP Pavilion dv7  with Windows 7 (64-bit) that is about a year and a half old. I recently started getting an error message after start-up that stated a hard drive failure was imminent. I called HP and they told me to replace the hard drive. I ordered the hard drive and recovery discs from HP.
After installing the hard drive and installing the recovery discs I get an error message that says BOOTMGR is missing. I have talked to HP customer support and all they tell me is to try re-installing the discs. I have done so several time and still get the BOOTMGR is missing message. Help?

    Hi:
You can try this workaround if you want.
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn as ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.
