Missing external display 1920x1080 resolution, only shows 1680x1050... Please HELP !
When connecting my Macbook Air (mid 2011) to an external LG 22" Display (M2241A) which supports a native resolution of 1920x1080, the closest setting available in the display preferences is 1680x1050, and aspect ratio is really distorted at this size. I use an Apple mini-display-port to HDMI, and HDMI cable to connect the Monitor.
What can I do to correct this problem ? How do I make the 1920x1080 available and get rid of the distortion ?
Thanks for your quick answer, but... When I use the 1080p resolution, I need to use Underscan, and the colors change, the fonts get all blurry and overall definition goes really bad. Really seems like a TV setting.
Maybe okay to watch a movie, but not to work in Photoshop and get design work done properly.
The external display only has HDMI + VGA inputs.
So I guess the next step is to try finding a different connector (mini-display to VGA) But I am now in Chile, Patagonia, and believe me, this will be quite a challenge to find !!! Also, no way to buy at Apple online store and get it shipped here in Chile... :-(((

External display - maximum resolution only works in safe mode on MBP
I'm having an issue with an external display connected to a 2012 non-retina MacbookPro 15" i7 running 10.9. Monitor is Dell U2713HM, which has a maximum resolution of 2560x1440, and is connected via a Mini-Dipslayport to Displayport cord.
My setup has been working great for over a year, where while at my office I use the macbook closed in "clamshell mode" with the Dell monitor being the only display in use, running at 2560x1440. However today when I came into my office and connected to the dispay as usual, the resolution on the Dell was noticably scaled. System preferences is showing it running Scaled at 1080p, and when I select Best for Display it stretches to a very wide and distorted resolution. I can hold alt and click the Scaled button to display additional resolutions, however the maximum resolution listed is 1600x1200. Same problem regardless of clamshell, mirror, or extended desktop modes.
I've been trying to track down the problem, and have run though the usual procedures: restart, shutdown, reset PRAM, reset SMC, check cord connections, verify disk, repair disk permissions - all to no avail. However when I boot in safe mode the display runs as it should at 2560x1440 without issue, which lets me know its not a problem with the cord or connectioin, but rather something on the OS / GPU side.
I can't for the life of me figure out what is causing the issue. Considering its been working fine for quite some time, and I've made no unusual changes to the MBP in the past 48 hours when the display was working properly, I'm not really sure where to go from here. Hoping to not have to migrate to a new user or repartion my HDD.
Any suggestions on possible solutions?
Thanks.I stumbled upon a fix. Still not sure what caused the issue in the first place, but for anyone having the same issue, the display override script contained on the site below seems to have fixed the issue.

I use FPT to try to view a directory on a remote server that contains 19000 files, but only 10000 are showing. Please help.
Hi Steve,
You can be right that DISM don’t support the scenario that User profile and System are in the separated volumes.
As a workaround, we should use the defaults to put the profile on C: during capture image, and then set the profile path to be on the D: drive after the image deploying.
Please refer to below KB for how to using Sysprep to redirect profiles’ locations.
Customize the default local user profile when preparing an image of Windows

Hope these could be helpful.

If you use the Apple Thunderbolt display you can connect up to 6 displays by daisy chaining them together
but up to 6 on the integrated graphics of the mini? A discrete graphics card isnt necessary?
The new Thunderbolt technology in Mac mini is phenomenally fast. It features two 10-Gbps channels for data transfer. That’s up to 12 times faster than FireWire 800 and up to 20 times faster than USB 2.0. But beyond speed, Thunderbolt technology gives you unprecedented expansion capabilities. You can daisy-chain as many as six Thunderbolt peripherals, including the new Apple Thunderbolt Display. And since Thunderbolt is based on DisplayPort technology, your Mini DisplayPort devices plug right in, too.

Hi
My first thoughts are
• iMovie ill behaving - Trash the iMovie pref file - use to set things right
• in reg. to Photos - Did You change iPhoto Photo Library - Then iMovie get's lost as it peeks into iPhoto on start up to see where photos are stored. Set iPhoto back to first Photo Library (when iMovie is not running) then start iMovie.

Got the 1920x1200 display, but it only shows up to 1680x1050. Was I conned?
Got my new 17" Macbook Pro with the High-Res display at Apple Store in Atlanta last Thursday, and yesterday I decided to check what if feels to work at the max resolution. The display preference only shows up to 1680x1050. Ran System Profiler, it reports 1680x1050 as the display's res. Have the Geniuses done it again?
What do I do now, since I'm in Athens Greece, i.e. half way around the world, and won't be anywhere near the US for the next 8 months or so?
Many thanks, people.Mark,
Thanks for the post. Did you read my previous post
about Sony's support of a UK customer working in
Greece? I don't understand why it should be above and
beyond the call of duty. They offer worldwide cover
during their AppleCare period. I am using (well,
trying to, anyway) their product in the very way it
was meant to be used: on the road. They cover me
worldwide. Why must I fork out a good few hundreds of
bucks to help them do what it purely their job?
Really, it's just my opinion of my expectation, which is completely irrelevant. I did not mean it in an argumentative way. But, to play devils advocate: Apple could refund you $100(difference of cost) or pay 1)A couple of hundred bucks for international shipping.2)insurance(whatever negligable amount that would be. 3)I assume VAT, when re-entering Greece.4)Depreciation on the 'book you have now.(meaning they would likely resell as a certified or refurb.)Plus any other incidentals. From that perspective I would think they would simply offer you the difference. But, I hope that's not the case.
If you haven't read it already, here is a link to the return policy. http://www.apple.com/legal/salespolicies/retailus.html
note:* Products can be returned only in the country in which they were originally purchased.
Again, I want to stress the irrelevance of Warranty issue, support, AppleCare etc. Even of the return policy. All of that is based on the assumption of having the product you wanted not working, or simply buyers remorse. Which isn't the case here. The product works fine, it's just not what you requested, ordered and paid for. I should think Apple, and the Apple store would want to get you the right book.
As has been mentioned above, call and keep calling until it's resolved. Best of luck!
