MobileDeviceHelper running @ 100% on one CPU Core

Hi, anyone suggest anything to fix one of my CPU cores runs MobileDeviceHelper (32Bit) at 100% consistently after iTunes is started.
The machine is a new build with Windows 8 64bit all updates and patches applied. All latest manufacturer chipset and other relevant drivers and every other part of the machine works perfectly. If I end the process, distnoted (32 bit) then replaces it and takes over with another core running at 100%. Ending that process and mobiledevicehelper comes back at one core 100% usage, then ending that and it behaves.
I have tried restarting the machine, installing updates, disabling the task in task manager, resetting the network adapter (winsock reset) and disabling ApplePush, and itunes helper at startup but am out of ideas now! I haven't even sync'd my phone to it yet.
Im fast thinking iTunes seems to be getting more buggy each release (I haven't been able to burn an audio cd on the new machine as it crashes while attempting to, but other software can burn the same playlist and file after dragging out of the iTunes playlist) yet iTunes on my Macbook runs fine!

oh and its iTunes 12.1.1.4 64Bit with Windows 8.1 Pro 64Bit all latest updates.
As a workaround I have found the two files, renamed them so iTunes cant call them and everything still works fine which begs the questions what are they doing that uses 100% of one CPU core! I haven't setup my iPhone as a remote, or my AppleTVs yet, hoping they don't rely on these services!

at 14 minutes of uptime systemd-journal stopped using 100% and went back to normal. Anyone know a way to figure out what happened here?

In the Newbie Corner of the forums, there are a few stickied threads that are recommended reads.  One of which is this one.
If the logs are not too too much, then it can be posted here with code tags. If it is crazy big, pastebin it and then post the link.
If this is really all the information it gives about the journal being nuts, then you might want to enable debug levels of logging for the journal and then see if you can gather more information that way.  This can either by done by using a drop-in snippet to the unit file, or by turning on debug levels for the entire system from the kernel command line.
The journal is not designed in such a way that it can be continously written to.  There are safeguards in place to ensure that masively spamming services are cut off after a certain number of log messages in a given timeframe.  Additionally, even the flush from the journal in RAM to the disk is only done periodically.

  • Multisim 11 only uses one CPU core during simulation

    Hi,
Just recently I've been using MultiSim again, v11 if that matters, and simulating goes slow, to my opinion that is.
Now there are two things that I've noticed:
    - Multisim only uses one of two CPU cores during simulation, not both;
    - I've enabled CPU throttle (AMD's Cool'n'Quiet) but corespeed remains very low even though Multisim needs CPU power while simulating.
The simulating of a NE555-based LED-flash circuit requires about 28 seconds to get to 100ms in the simulation. Now if I can get the CPU to throttle up, by for example having Prime95 stress one of the two cores, then the simulation only requires 12 seconds to get to 100ms.
So here are my two questions:
    1. Is Multisim 11 capable of using more than one CPU core while simulating? If yes, how can I get it to use more than one?
    2. Probably not the right forum to ask, but is there a way to force Windows 7 Ultimate x64 to throttle up the CPU when Multisim starts simulating? Since Multisim does not seem to stress the only core it uses enough to throttle it up. Using Prime95 on one core does trigger a throttle up.
    With regards,
    Bart Grefte
    Relevant specs:
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    Multisim v11
    AMD A4-3400
    16GB RAM

    Completely forgot this topic....
Is there a good reason why there is no multicore support? Multisim can certainly use it for simulating.
As for the CPU throttling, I found a batch that can increase/decrease the "minimum processor state"-setting and it works immediately, no reboot required.
    @echo off
    powercfg.exe -getactivescheme > "%userprofile%\appdata\~apo.tmp"
    set /p v_currentscheme= <"%userprofile%\appdata\~apo.tmp"
    set v_currentscheme=%v_currentscheme:~24,36%
    del "%userprofile%\appdata\~apo.tmp"
    powercfg -setacvalueindex %v_currentscheme% 54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00 893dee8e-2bef-41e0-89c6-b55d0929964c %1
    powercfg -setdcvalueindex %v_currentscheme% 54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00 893dee8e-2bef-41e0-89c6-b55d0929964c %1
    powercfg -s %v_currentscheme%
    exit
    Usage is simple:
    Start -> run -> c:\pathtobatch.bat 100
for "minimum processor state"-setting at 100%
    Start -> run -> c:\pathtobatch.bat 5
for "minimum processor state"-setting at 5%
Please note that "set v_currentscheme=%v_currentscheme:~24,36%" is not the same for every language. The original batch had "set v_currentscheme=%v_currentscheme:~19,36%" (most likely for the English version of Windows 7), but since my Windows install is in Dutch, I had to change it in order for it to work.
Running the batch with @echo off removed will show why.

  • Only one CPU core recognized [solved]

For some reason the kernel only recognizes one CPU core out of two. I'm not completely sure at which kernel upgrade it disappeared but it is gone in 2.6.36 and 2.6.37. I know it was still there in september 2010 and earlier. I'm using a x86-64 kernel.

I have tried adding the kernel options "acpi=off noacpi apic=off noapic" as to the suggestion of a ubuntu bug report in launchpad but it didn't help. I also disabled ACPI in the bios but I'm still limited to one cpu core.
    Any ideas?
    [SOLVED]
I just doublechecked the BIOS settings and it had the CPU Core Control set to manual and one core was disabled. I set it to auto again and now both cores are recognized correctly. I don't recall ever touching this setting but at least it works now. Maybe a bios update actually changed the setting or (more probable) a friend of mine.

  • Firefox use 100% of one CPU (Mac)

    I use last firefox (32) on MacOS X 10.6.8.
Sometime firefox start using 100% a one CPU, from that time the only way to stop it was to quit (it take severals seconds, sometime it hang). When it start i can close all windows, firefox continue using 100% CPU.
I follow standard instructions (update to lastest, disable plugins and extensions...) it do not work.
I not a configuration to reproduce the problem : keep iCloud mail open in one tab is the way to reproduce the problem sometime after a few minutes, sometime after some hours : but it also happend sometime with no iCloud open...

    HP Pavilion dv7-4153cl
I have had two warnings about something using 100% of one CPU. The first one while using Dragon NS. The second was loading a program.
When I clicked the warning, a box came up listing the speakers but nothing seemed to be a problem.
Should I be concerned about these pop-ups?
    Why does it warn me?
Does it slow down the computer?

  • Database uses only one cpu core  from 16 available

    Hi,
we have an server with 16 CPU cores, and we discovered from em that it uses only 1 core with 100% and the others are idle.
the initialization parameters for CPU are:
    cpu_count 16
    parallel_threads_per_cpu 2
    resource_manager_cpu_allocation 16.
What can we do to use all 16 cores.
    Regards

Very interesting poit of view, but since I have for some period of time 1 core on 100% and other cores are idle or 0%,
I don't think that we can say that linux and oracle database 11g is using the best from that server, can you?Well, I did not offer a point of view. I offered fact - a reason why on x86 architecture it is faster to keep threads on the same CPU (if sufficient CPU capacity) then run such threads across CPUs.
As for what you are seeing - we cannot see it. So the only data we have is what you offered. And that does not suffice in making any kind of call as to why you are seeing, or even describing the symptoms correctly.
Why don't you try another example? 3 client server applications. Each client post a request (huge update 100% CPU, small update 0% CPU, huge select 100% CPU). What the server does, it switches between those 2 huge requests an uses only one core on 100% abd the others 15 are sleeping. Why don't use each request on different core and reduce the time?Define "+huge request+". Database operations are typically I/O intensive - not CPU intensive. There are also a number of processes. So if PMON for example is showing high CPU, then that means something different as when DBWR is showing high CPU, versus a dispatcher process showing high CPU.
So you need to provide a lot more detail for us to speculate as to what the problem could be, never mind offering a solution.

  • Mail running +100% of my CPU!

Every since I installed Snow Leopard and then Lion on Sunday, Mail has been taking up over 100% of my CPU.  Even when I go offline, when I turn off my wireless, it runs over 100% of my CPU.
I run a lot of RSS feeds through Mail - a couple hundred.  I like seeing web posts as I see mail - to have everything in one stream.  This was never a problem before I installed Snow Leopard and Lion - Mail was fast before.  Now when I open "Activity" it seems to check feeds much slower than before.
I turned off all sharing, no MobileMe.  It's making me feel like I'm working underwater, everything is sluggish and slow, mail is constantly not responding, and I get the spinning wheel all the time.  Why is this happening?
For what it's worth - Address Book is incredibly slow as well.

That's my CPU and ram use with itunes running a live even, mail open and safari for right you, also i have opeb twitter, skype, ichat and activity monitor and connect a external drive..

  • Downloading app causes storeagent process to consume 100% of a CPU core

This has happened twice now.  Just downloaded Xcode 4.0.2 through the Mac App Store.  This is a 4.59 GB download that took more than ten minutes.  About 15% into the download, the storeagent process pegged a CPU core, and remained that way for the rest of the download.  The CPU temperature shot up and the fans were going full blast.  This must be an app store defect; there is no reason for any additional processing while the file is just downloading.  Has anybody else experience this problem?  I don't think you would notice it for a typical size application, but it should be obvious once you get over 1 GB.

I'm certian this is related to the speed of the connection (On the fly decryption, whatever...) as I'm sat on 1Gb link with zero contention and it (storeagent) makes my machine completely unuseable as all the cores are basically pegged to 100%.

  • Only one CPU core is working during video export from Premiere Media Encoder

Windows Resource Monitor showed cores 'parked' at first. I was able to turn that feature off using regedit. They no longer say they are parked'. but still only one core is at 100% while the other seven cores are at close to zero %. Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit. i7-2600k processor 3.4 GHz running at 3.8 GHz XMP setting. ASUS P8Z77-V motherboard 32 GB RAM.
I had this problem in the past and fixed when I turned off core parking. But, I recently clean installed Windows and problem has returned. I contacted Microsoft and they assured me that the problems lies with Premiere or AME.
it just took over an hour to export a video that should have taken 10 minutes

This has been driving me CRAZY... so going over the message boards from 2 to 5 am this morning I found the best explanation I have seen.   The problem is that Adobe Creative Cloud is NOT "Processor Group Aware".  Windows parses any more than 36 cores into "Processor Groups" and while the Pro version of Windows 7 & 8 can handle 256 threads they have to spread them across multiple processor groups.
Simple Version:  AREA | How many cores does 3ds Max support?
    Microsoft's Explanation:  Processor Groups (Windows)
Clearly, this is an Adobe Problem... If any engineers are reading this PLEASE review the below and incorporate it into your next build of Creative Cloud!!!

  • Running 100 percent of cpu

My Itunes is taking 100 percent of the CPU. Any help ?

I am having the same problem as well! I have just got m y iPad 2 and rushed to get it updated and was forced to update my iTunes to 10.5.0.142 and since then I have not been able to do anything!
I have noticed that iTunes takes about 50% of my CPU, AppleMobileDeviceService takes the other 50% and the AppleBackupService gets a huge ZERO% which is great if you don't want to actually do any backups - but then again it won't let you update without doing a backup.
I have tried the uninstall and reinstall routine, done the tweaking to make iTunes as lean as possible but nothing helps. I am not at a point that I wish I had not spent what I have on apples new money spinner - I could have used it on something that works!
Going by the complete lack of response from Apple on these forums, it is clear that they don't even monitor them at all and don't care about their users at all and it's just their bank balance they are interested in.

  • Launchd eating 100% of a CPU, causes machine to permanently hang

    Gentleones,
I'm attempting to create and schedule a script that will rotate the apache2 logs in a nice fashion like all the other logs on the machine. (Why Apache can't do logging like everybody else, I don't know, but I guess that's a little off-topic.
So I naively figured I'd just write a script to roll the logs and use launchd to schedule its execution. Far below, you'll find the plist that I created as well as the rolllogs.sh script.
When I manually execute the script (using sudo so it can play with the logfiles and whatnot), it runs fine. Gzip fires up occasionally and awstats updates like it should. The problem comes when I try to use launchctl to get this script going. When I use
    launchctl load net.eccles.rolllogs.plist
CPU usage goes immediately to 100% on one CPU (my signature list of "Model" is way out of date) and I can no longer get anything else to run. I can't open a new ssh into the machine, I can't use top unless it's previously running in another ssh, and I never get a command prompt out of the session that is running launchctl. It goes off into la-la land (adjacent to one of the "stans" near the Black Sea, from what I hear).
If I reboot the hard way (5 second power button, because nothing else works), then the machine is back up and running. But when I try to log in again on the machine with the GUI, the machine immediately goes off into la-la land with 100% CPU usage again. The only way around things is to ssh into the machine and remove the plist from /Library/LaunchAgents where I put it in the first place. Then launchd can't find it and it doesn't try to leave the country.
So... I figured it's my script that is causing the problems, right? Well, to sort this one out, I created a simple script, shown way below, called simple.sh which does nothing more than create a line in the system.log file. It, too, works just fine if I call it manually. But when I try to get launchd to run it, same problem as before and nothing appears in the system.log file.
My guess? There's something hokey about my plist file that is really screwing up launchd, but I can't find it.
Anybody got any ideas? Anybody had any success with their own launchd scripts like this one? (Note that I'm trying to get this to run on Sundays at 0315, so I think I have the plist entry correct for that.)
    Thanks,
    Bill
P.S. I discovered while making this post that square brackets are important somehow to this forum software, but you can escape them with a backslash.)
P.P.S There's lots of whitespace in the plist below, but it gets eaten by aforementioned forum software.

  • K8NGM2-FID CPU core voltage Fluctuations and instabilities-- Bad caps!!?

I Have K8NGM2-FID bought 6 months ago and started having stability issues since last month.
    Here is my configuration
K8NGM2-FID ver 2.0 Bios 3.73 now, used to be 3.5, experimented both, but did not help
    Onboard video, Onboard Lan, firewire
    Memory : 512 x 2 Corsair DDR400 in dual channel mode at 2.65v 64MB to Video
    CPU: AMD64 X2 3800+
    HDD WD 160GB SATA150
    Winfast TV2000 Expert Tv Tuner
Drivers, tried many version ( currently using latest Nvidia Video, MB drivers)
Now, the description of the problem.
System suddenly hangs with or without load, intermittenly. Nothing to do what we are working on. Even when System is idle.
Hangs means, it could happend two ways,
    1. simply it would not respond, screen simply freezes,
    2. sometimes, you simply see horizantal lines on monitor( Typically happens when cpu core voltage drops below it can handle). I know this because
I am using RMClock on my Turion laptop, and when we try to find lowest stable voltage we see this behaviour.
Now, some other observation,  from the day one CPU core voltage has been fluctuating a lot. Used to fluctuate anywhere between 1.37v to 1.304v( at default 1.35v).  But still has been stable. Ran 24hour prime95, so no problems.
Recently I am seeing voltage fluctuations is more, as low as 1.28v to 1.39v at default 1.35v, so I tried RMCLock and raised the voltage to 1.4v, but it seems that did not help much.
Now, As per the MSI PCALert4  voltage is changing anywhere from 1.28v to 1.38v, but also I get core voltage field empty( that is right no CPU core voltage shown) and alarm sounds. It seems, CPU does not get voltage at all and gets very low voltage for a second or so.
Things I tried,  Changed the powersupply, changed the Memory, but no use. I am lucky enough to have exact same configuration I built for a friend. So, I checked voltages on his PC and I do not see this behaviour.
Now, I ran out of options.... any idea anyone had similar problem, and if they solved?
Now, here are PCAlert 4 images
    http://img171.imageshack.us/my.php?image=128vatdef135sp5.jpg
    http://img256.imageshack.us/my.php?image=novoltageif5.jpg
    http://img406.imageshack.us/my.php?image=132vredbi3.jpg
Also, another weird behaviour with Bios, even when I change setting in bios, they did not take effect, even loading default does not help, so I have to press CMOS reset button.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the quick reply.
First to clarify, these things has been developed a monrh ago only. It has been fine for more than 5 months.
1). Yes Memory is insalled in closest DIMM sockets to CPU,
2). I think you mean mem voltage. The memory I have is Corsair Value series and it even runs fine DDR400 at 2.55v, but I bumped it to 2.65v and also tried 2.75v ( 2.65v is typical I have been using with this MB).
3). Memory has been tested with Memtest for 24 hours and ran Dual Prime95 for 24 hours when system is assembled.
Also swapped from another PC I built for my friend with same components( same corsair value series memory) Also tested my memory on his PC, no probs. BTW I also tested my memory at 333, freezing even happens even at that speed.
4). PSU has nothing to do, because I have been monitoring all PSU rails with SPeedFan none of of the rail voltages moved at all. I even monitored with Digital Multimeter to ensure. Anyways I even tried 3 psus, one ANtec 350W smart power supply, ThemalTake 420W, Ultra 400 Watts. All have more than enough juice to power this setup. (onboard Graphics card).
5). Yes, freezing happens in simply desktop too. Nothing to do with CPU load or graphics load. It could happen even when just idling.
6). I use stock CPU cooler in Antec 1650B case with 120MM Fan running in the back( approx 50cfm) and CPU temp never exceeded 47c and MB temp typically around 28c and NB temp around 50-60c using a digital probe and 55-70c using Nvidia Monitor based on load vs no load.
7). As per Dual core patches, I applied AMD Dual Core  optimizer quite a while ago. As per the MS Patch, No I have not applied( But I doubt it helps because it has been stable without that for all these months). I may try that.
Now, what I am trying, I  disabled CNQ, and logging Core voltage fluctuation with speedfan( no monitoring).
as of yesterday night the core voltage was varying from 1.28v to 1.39v( I think that is insane 110mv fluctuation in CPU core voltage!!?) at default CPU voltage of 1.35v. BTW it has nothing to with CPU load, all these logs generated when it was idle. I remember fluctuation even when MB was new, but lowest I observed was 1.304v.
SOmehow, I suspect VRM is pretty bad on this MB.
Anyways, see the response and let me know if you think I am missing somethings. Appreciate your help.
