Monitor command knocks out internet connection

cisco 2651XM router
IOS: c2600-adventerprisek9-mz.124-15.T9.bin
fitted with NM-16-ESW switch module on to 172.1.16.xx
I have a mail-and-web server plugged into fa1/14 on the switch module in this router, along with a PC plugged into fa1/7, and the router is connected to the internet.
I'm using monitor commands to feed traffic data on f1/4 to fa1/7 thus:
(config)#monitor session 1 source interface Fa1/14
(config)#monitor session 1 destination interface Fa1/7
The reason for this is I'm using wireshark on the PC (in f1/7) to watch traffic on the mail/web server (on f1/14) and it works great except that the monitor destination command knocks out my internet access on the PC. Without the monitor commands internet access is fine. I tried the whole thing again on a different PC and that lost the internet too so the problem is in the router.
Is there a solution to this that will give me both the traffic feed and internet access? Thanks for any help.

Hello Tony,
unfortunately it looks like that your only option is to add a NIC to the PC
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_3t/12_3t4/feature/guide/gt1636nm.html#wp1053663
>> . You cannot configure a SPAN destination interface to receive ingress traffic. The interface does not forward any traffic except that required for the SPAN session.
Hope to help

  • Airport Express knocks out internet connection in bridge mode

I have an Airport Extremem (one of the first 'N' versions) and an older (also 'N') Airport Express that extends my network in bridge mode.  I want to add another Airport Express (also an older 'N' version) in bridge mode.  The new one can be connected in client mode successfully, but when I try to connect it in bridge mode I lose my internet connection.  Both of the Airport Expresses are the older model that hang directly on the power outlet and everything has the latest firmware version.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!

The new one can be connected in client mode successfully, but when I try to connect it in bridge mode I lose my internet connection.
Client mode is also Bridge Mode, so I am not sure what you are referring to here.
In other words, when the Express is in the "join" mode, that is client mode which is also Bridge Mode.
When the Express is in "extend" mode, it is also in Bridge Mode.
So, the AirPort Extreme is operating correctly, correct?
If yes, does the first AirPort Express extend the network wirelessly, or is it connected to the AirPort Extreme using a wired Ethernet connection?
Once we understand the relationship between the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express, we can tackle the issue of your second AirPort Express.
BTW, the second Express cannot extend the signal from the first Express wirelessly, if that is what you are asking about here?

  • How to access Time Capsule hard drive with out internet connection?

Basically I live in a four bedroom house. One of my roomates moved out who had the internet in there name. Now i dont have an internet access but I have the Time Capsule with a 2 TB hard drive that stores my whole itunes library. I have enough space on my Macbook Air to store my whole library. I'd like to move my whole iTunes library back to my computer and wipe the Time Capsule Clean.

If the Time Capsule is providing a wireless network signal, an Internet connection does not need to exist to move files from the Mac to the Time Capsule, or vice versa.
Log onto the Time Capsule wireless network
    Open Macintosh HD
Look for the Time Capsule icon under the SHARED heading on the left side of the window
Click on the Time Capsule icon and a folder named Data (unless you have renamed it) will appear to the right
Double click Data to mount the drive on the Mac's desktop
Open the drive on the desktop and you can drag/drop files over to the destination that you choose on the Mac.
Once the file transfer is complete, double check to make sure that the files are back on your Mac and everything is working properly. Then, you can erase the Time Capsule hard drive.

  • After 5.1.1 update, Apple TV knocks off Internet connection.

Connects fine to computer, Netflix or iTunes (though not to my iPod Touch Remote app). I see my Netflix queue and all the movies and music on my computer. But when I try to stream something from any of them, the spinning gear goes endlessly, and Internet connection is broken for all devices. I have to reboot modem and router.
Took it to local Apple store, he did a restore (which I'd already done at home anyway) and it worked fine there, including iTouch. Hooked it up at home, same problem. Apparently the update doesn't play well with either my router, the modem or AT&T. How do I troubleshoot this?
I have 2nd gen Apple TV, AT&T DSL (Motorola modem) and D-Link router. Everything worked fine for almost two years, until the latest update.

I am having hte EXACT same issue. I have been back and forth with iTunes support for 2 weeks about this. Its also throwing offf all my other devices and popping up the same message on iPhone and iPad. Im surprised others arent having this issue or are just not updating yet to the latest software. I found that completely logging out of my iTunes account on the Apple TV after "Verifying" my payment info stops the problem. BUT THEN I CANT RENT MOVIES! Great consumer experience. Annoy the **** out of people so then they cant use your product for its intended purpose. FIX THIS APPLE!
Sorry for ranting but this has been plaguing me for 2 weeks since the update and I use my Apple TV daily.

  • Skype video chat keeps knocking out internet conne...

I am using the BT Broadband Home Hub 2.0 and my BT Broadband WiFi connection is usually consistent from the time I switch my computer on to the time I switch it off.
Only when I do a video chat through Skype does my internet connection usually drop out.
I have just done a speed test through BT.com and it's results are as follows:
    Connection speed: 12.3Mb
    Download speed: 10.7Mb
    Upload speed: 0.81Mb.
According to BT, these are all good, so why does my connection drop out when video chatting through Skype?
Do I need a better broadband router (staying with BT Broadband)?
Do I need faster broadband by getting BT Infinity instead?
Or are there some configurations/settings I can change with BT Broadband and/or Skype to ensure dropouts like this won't happen.
Hope somebody can advise me on this.
    Thanks.

If you are using the normal default connection settings for Skype, then it will try to route incoming calls via your connection, which can result in dropped connections.
Look at the advanced connection settings on Skype, and untick the options to use incoming connections and uPnP. Basically untick all boxes, then shut down Skype, and restart it. See if it helps.
Its not going to work very well over WifI anyway.
There is also a software bug in the earlier home hubs, which can result in the IDS (Intruder Detection System) log overflowing, resulting in loss of DNS connectivity. The IDS tends to be very active when incoming connection attempts are made.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

  • How can i call javascript function with out internet connection?

I have trying to call javascript function through ExternalInterface. But flash player recomonding to have internet connectivity. i have allredy used allowscript="always" .

first, allow the folder that contains your flash files to connect to the internet by adjusting your security settings:
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04a.ht ml
then try the following in a swf and open the published html in your browser to test:
    import flash.external.ExternalInterface
    ExternalInterface.call("function(){alert('test');}")

  • Flash Player Drops Out Internet Connection of Other Programs

I'm having terrible problems with Flash Player X.  Everytime I connect to streaming video using Flash Player, the movie plays OK for about ten minutes then Flash Player doesn't allow me to connect to the internet with other programs of other windows and drops out any programs already connected.  I can either surf the internet or watch a movie but not both.  I've tried re-installing the software, done every configuration of my system and firewall that I know how but still can't get rid of this problem.  I've tried all the suggests in other threads but to still no avail.  I could use some help on this issue.

No, Verizon doesn't automatically share your wifi connection with strangers.  The cable company that serves Long Island is now doing what you described.  They have guest wifi automatically enabled on their latest routers but FiOS does no such thing. If you would like to try to get some help with your varying speeds from fellow users here, start another thread and provide more details.  Include what part of the country you're in; if you're measuring your speeds via a hardwire (Ethernet) connection or wifi; and what model router you have. I can tell you that with the rare exception of a few hours outage we had a few days ago, I consistenly get over 80 mb/s up and down on my 75/75 plan.  That's the way FiOS should work and does for me. BTW, you should be able to go to the setup pages for your router in your  router and see what devices are connected to your local network.  Sign in at 192.168.1.1 on on the home page you'll see "My Network" where all devices connected will be shown.

  • IPad knocks out wifi for whole household

Hey everyone. Just bought an iPad 2 wifi and every time I use it for more than fifteen minutes it not only loses connection, but knocks out the connection completely. Every other device in the house remains connected to the network, including the iPad, but the internet connection is completely lost and I have to reboot the router. Is anyone else experiencing anything like this?

Sounds like there is a bug in the firmware of your router.
Check for a firmware update on the support web page of your router's manufacturer.

  • Macs don't recognize internet connection

I live in a remote area and still have a dial-up connection that has been working for a few years. Now suddenly, out of the blue, neither of the two Macs I have (a PBook G4 and an 800 MHz iMac) recognize the internet connection. I can secure a connection via Internet Connect which authenticates the connection and then starts clocking my time connected, but neither Safari, Internet Explorer 5.2, nor Apple Mail seem to recognize the connection. They act as though there's no internet at all. I even spoke with my ISPs tech support and they had me try to ping their router, but even though they could "see" I was connected to their network, the ping resulted in 100% packet loss. Any ideas as to what is wrong? This happens whether or not I try it with a direct modem phone line or via our Airport network with the base station hooked to the phone line.

Yes, the phone line seems to be fine and both Macs even acknowledge a working connection and modem handshake when I monitor that part via Internet Connect. It's just that none of the software that's suppose to make use of that connection seems to be able to do so (e.g., Safari, IE 5.2, Apple Mail, etc.). I was thinking that something hidden way in the depths of System Preferences that I haven't been aware of has been forcing all software to look for the wrong port out (to the internet). But I've tried disabling (unchecking) all the other options in the Port Configurations window besides "modem" and this still doesn't work....

  • How To Stop After Effects From Knocking Out My Internet Connection As It Is Downloading?

    Greetings,
Yesterday, January 20, 2015, I purchased an annual subscription to After Effects.  And, after numerous attempts at downloading the software with the same abysmal results, I am now going to the forums for a possible remedy.  Everything goes well in beginning my download, including getting my McAfee Anti-virus program to accept Adobe Creative Cloud, however after a few minutes, the download process knocks out my Internet connection, forcing me to re-boot.  I do receive two back-to-back error messages; none of which are listed by Adobe set of error messages in their FAQ section.
The first one reads:  "Core: Creative Cloud - Application Error.  The instruction at 0x100014a0 referenced memory at 0x100014a0.  The memory could not be written."  The second error message is likened to the first, only with a different number...
"94% Complete: explorer.exe - Application Error.  The instruction at 0x80001610 referenced memory at 0x80001610.  The memory could not be written."
Finally, do you know if I can bypass all of this trouble by having Adobe After Effects disks shipped to me?  Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    Joy in the Lord,
    A. Landis Jones

    Greetings,
And thank you both, Mylenium & Dave.  After I compose this note, I am going to mark your answers as correct.  I just wanted to write this qualifier, first.  I tried to do as both of you suggested, however, I could not figure out how to disable McAfee Anti-Virus.  I did manage to turn off McAfee Firewall.  And when that was done, I tried to download After Effects.  However, that trick did not work the first couple of times I tried it.  A few re-boots later, After Effects (as well as some unknown program I did not expect called Media Encoder) finally downloaded on my computer.
After I began this thread, I recalled that, oftentimes, when I view YouTube videos online, the same thing happens - my Internet connection gets disrupted.  Then I remembered that the trouble began when my computer crashed and I tried to re-install Windows 8.1 Pro.  So, maybe that is the real culprit - my system crash, that is.  A little while ago, I tested viewing YouTube videos to no avail.  So, I am suspecting that your solution to turn off my anti-virus (in my case, my firewall) did the trick, and I thank you two, Mylenium & Dave, mightily.
    May you have many blessings.
    Joy in the Lord,
    A. Landis Jones

If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide, AdwareMedic, or Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect everything targeting the Mac.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

  • Internet connection dropping out throughout day; problem NOT with provider

My computer's connection to the Airport Express base station has no problems at all. But the internet connection goes out literally dozens of times a day (at no predictable schedule); this has been happening for almost a month. I originally thought the problem was with the internet provider, but I'm now beginning to think that either my settings are wrong, or that I have a corrupt file somewhere. Here are the details:
I connect via a cable modem (Time Warner - Road Runner). I know people have had problems with Time Warner, so I assumed that was the issue; however I've had 3 service calls and they've checked signal strength inside and out, and swapped out the modem and the cables. I don't think it is simply problems in our geographic area (i.e. greater Los Angeles) due to the fact that the Internet fails sometimes 40-50 times daily, and the problem began when I upgraded from an old Airport base station to a brand new Airport Express about a month ago.
The airport/internet connection is shared 3 ways: two MacBook Pro computers and one iPhone. My Airport's internet settings are as follows:
    Configure IPv4 using DHCP.
DNS Servers: 66.75.160.63 and 66.75.160.64 (note I have already tried swapping these for OpenDNS -- this did NOT solve the problem)
    Domain name: socal.rr.com
    DHCP Client ID: [blank]
    Ethernet WAN port: Default-Automatic
Connection Sharing: Share a Public IP address
    DHCP Beginning Address: 10.0.1.2
    Ending Address: 10.0.1.200
    DHCP Lease: 4 hours
    NAT settings are all unchecked
One of the main reasons I believe that the problem is with my computer's settings or a corrupt file is that I can fix the problem whenever the Internet "goes down" almost 100% of the time by doing the following: after loading Airport Utility, I make ANY trivial change (i.e. changing the DHCP lease from 4 hours to 5 hours) and then click UPDATE to refresh the Airport base station. This fixes the problem almost 100% of the time. But then, anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 hours later, the Internet connection goes down again. [Unplugging the power from the modem, waiting 30 seconds, and plugging it back in ALSO fixes the problem almost 100% of the time, until it goes out again a little while later.]
Also, I have tried disconnecting Airport and connecting directly to the cable modem via Ethernet. The problem remains exactly the same -- I can connect, but then the connection fails soon after. Unplugging then replugging the modem fixes the problem temporarily. So I do not think the problem is a defective Airport base station, nor do I think it is the modem (which has been replaced), nor Time Warner.
I can't think of what else to try -- but any advice would be greatly appreciated -- it's impossible for us to work with the Internet constantly going out throughout the day, every day.
    Thank you!

    plz help

If you downloaded the correct version for your iPad model (and the different models have different ipsw files), then you should be able to navigate to it in iTunes by pressing and holding the shift key on Windows (command key on Mac) when clicking the Check For Updates button.

  • Internet Connection Sporadically Drops Out

This problem has been ongoing for several months now.  Usually one or more times a day the internet connection will drop out, usually for a few minutes at a time.  Sometimes I get the yellow triangle in the taskbar, other times I don't.  I've gone back and forth with customer service several times.  Earlier this week they replaced my router to no avail.  They now tell me there are no connection drops or errors in the event logs and have tried to blame my computer/NIC.  I explained to them that it's not the connection between my NIC and the router that is breaking, but rather the connection between the router and the internet, or the connection between the router and the FiOS box.  Either way it's on the other side of the router.  I don't know why it doesn't show up in the event logs, but it is just about a daily occurrence.  So far the haven't even offered to sent a tech out.  I've gone back and forth like four or five times now, and I know the customer service reps are just trying to help, but so far it hasn't done any good.  The issue obviously needs to be escalated, so I figured I'd try here first.  Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be?  Has anyone else ever experienced this problem and been told there's no flags or errors in the event logs?  Thank you for your help.

    Hi Munich2013,
Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you. Please go to your profile page for the forum and look at the top of the middle column where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases". You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.
Under "My Support Cases" you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. This should be checked on a frequent basis, as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions. To ensure you know when they have responded to you, at the top of your support case there is a drop down menu for support case options. Open that and choose "subscribe". Please keep all correspondence regarding your issue in the private support portal.
