Monitor does not wake up after powersave

Inside my app (Full screen mode) I use PostMessage
(HWND_BROADCAST,
WM_SYSCOMMAND,
SC_MONITORPOWER, (LPARAM) 2); to turn off the monitor. However, when I use
PostMessage (HWND_BROADCAST,
WM_SYSCOMMAND,
SC_MONITORPOWER, (LPARAM) -1); (along with a mouse_event) it is not waking up
the monitor.
I use 2 monitors connected to GPU, Windows  8, directx9. Furthermore, I see that after sending the command to wake up the monitor (monitor still shows black) IDirect3DSwapCain9* is Null.

  • T520: Monitor does not turn on after boot or waking from sleep

I have a pretty standard T520, the only modifications are upgrading to a larger battery and higher screen resolution (1600x1200), and am currently running windows 7 64bit.  Whenever I turn on the machine from a powered off state, or if I try and wake it up from being asleep, 2/3 of the time the monitor will fail to turn on.  I am only able to remedy this by closing the lid, letting it go to sleep again, opening it again, holding down the fn key (if that even helps), and hoping it turns on the next time.  On a fresh boot, the screen backlight is on, but there is never anything displayed on the monitor, so I cannot even go in to the BIOS.  To get to the BIOS, I have to boot normally, repeatedly open/close the monitor until it displays something, reboot, and hope the monitor is still working after the reboot.
The forum posts I have seen on this topic seem to only relate to this problem with external monitors; however, this is occuring with the laptop monitor itself.
Has anyone else had this issue, or know of ways to correct it?

One other note: I am not hearing the hard drive start spinning on the times that the monitor does not turn on when returning from hibernate.  When the monitor does turn on, there is the distinct sound of the hard drive starting up, and I can feel a bit of torque within the laptop from the hdd.

  • 2013 Mac Pro DisplayPort Monitor does not wake from Sleep.

On my 2013 MP I have dual monitors:
    One connected DVI-to-MiniDisplayPort a ViewSonic 24"
    Second connected DisplayPort-to-MiniDisplayPort a MonoPrice 27" 2560x1440
When the computer comes out of Sleep or Off the 27" display does not come out of Sleep Mode.
If I unplug and replug the MiniDisplayPort connection from the MP the Display will turn on correctly.
Never had this issue with the 24" both monitors go into a sleep/hibernate mode(yellow power light on displays) when the computer turns off or goes to sleep.
When the computer comes out of sleep the 27" backlight turns on briefly but then goes back into sleep mode.
Troubleshooting: PRAM Reset and alternative ports on the MacPro with no luck.
    Any thoughts??
    Thanks in advance.

  • IMac (Mid 2011) Does not wake up after long sleep

    Hi People,
Having issues with my Mid2011 iMac (21,5", 2.7GHz). Just upgraded to 12GB RAM (2x2GB original + 2x4GB). System runs fine, no issues.
But when system goes to sleep for a longer period (a few hours) it will not wake up again. Neither by Keyboard/Mouse interaction (Bluetooth as well as USB) nor by pushing the powerbutton. I also performed the PRAM and SMC reset as described in the apple support resources.
Feeling a bit lost. Any Ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Addition:
Performed a test of the RAM with memtest. No erros found. Also forget to mention that the Mac has also Software updates and firmware updates installed.

Yesterday when I started up my Mac Pro I noticed that it sure seemed loud. I normally never shut it off, so I hadn't noticed that it was getting pretty loud. Then, for the first time since I've been having the wake up problem, it went to sleep as I was surfing the web. This time instead of just shutting it off and restarting, I decided to reset the SMC. I then figured since I had everything disconnected I'd take a look at the GPU and clean the dust out of it. After vacuuming, being real careful to not fry anything with static, I put it into a different slot than before. Plugged everything back in and started it up. First thing I noticed was the volume of the GPU fan was much quieter than it has ever been, no joke. I haven't shut it off in almost 24 hours and it hasn't gone to sleep at all. I've read other posts on the net that claimed the SMC reset and moving the card to a different slot didn't fix the problem for very long, so I'm hoping that isn't what fixed it. I'm hoping it was just dirty, as I have already had to replace 2 GPU's in 2 years and I can find many other things to spend money on. Now more than ever since the only card I'd want that Apple offers is $460. I hope this helps you, and me for that matter.

  • Monitor does not correctly display after waking up from suspend

    Hello,
Awesome WM. I use systemctl suspend to put my computer to sleep. It works fine, however, when I press the power button on my system unit, the computer wakes up but the image is distorted completely so I cannot see what is where... Quiting Awesome WM (win + shift + q, if I remember correctly) and logging back helps, but is not really convenient. I have tried to find a solution for the problem and, as you most likely surmised, with no success.

  • Secondary monitor does not work after OS X install

My secondary monitor does not work well after OS X install. The image on my secondary monitor is different even the screen svaer image is different and the mouse can not be seen.

Try the easy thing first - NVRAM reset:
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
If that does not work, post back with more info, including the version of Mac OS you are running. How is the external monitor connected, did it ever work, and from what OS X to what was the "OS X install" in your title?

after my computer hibernates the monitor does not come on

Hi and thanks for joining HP Forums.  Below are a couple of threads with multiple solutions to sleep/hibernate issues.  Please read through these threads and see if any of these solutions will work to correct your problem.  The mostly likely solutions such as allowing the video card to wake your computer and updating your drivers and BIOS are in the first link, but you may also find the solution in the second link.

  • TS4080 apple thunderbolt display image on display intermittently goes dark, does not wake from sleep after clicking mouse or keyboard, but there is "bonk" sound after clicking mouse or pressing keys. Rebooting by pressing the power button resolves issue.

My apple thunderbolt display (which I purchased 1.5 years ago; OS 10.7.5 Mac Mini) intermittently goes dark, does not wake from sleep after clicking mouse or keyboard, but there is "bonk" sound after clicking mouse or pressing keys, so am thinking it is a hardware problem with the display. Rebooting by pressing the power button turns the screen back on, but the same phenomenon has occurred several times. Could this be a software issue, or do I need to have my display repaired? Your feedback would be appreciated.

Hi ED, tough to tell, but it does sound like it's waking with the bonk, just not displaying.
    Long shot but...
I wonder if it's a variation of this, of which I've seen many different symptoms...
    Resolution
Move the mouse or trackpad cursor over the center area of the login window so you can see the user icons. Click on the icon of the user that you would like to login as, type in the user's password, and press Return.
If the login window is configured to show only the name and password fields, type in the user's name and password into the fields, and press Return (even if you cannot see the rest of the login window).
    Additional Information
This issue will not occur if the display is not sleeping when the account is logged out. Use the steps below to confirm that the account is not configured to log out automatically while the display is sleeping:
        1.    Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General.  Click the padlock to unlock the preference pane and enter your admin password. Click the Advanced button at the bottom, then see if the option "Log out after N minutes of inactivity" (where N is the number of minutes) is enabled.
        2.    Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and configure Display Sleep to occur after the account is logged out, by dragging the slider to a number of minutes that is greater than N was set to in the previous step.
Important: If automatic log out is not needed, disable "Log out after Nminutes of inactivity" in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. This will also prevent the issue.

  • 10.8.5: External Harddisk does not wake up with iMac after standby

After upgrade my iMac 27 early 2013 to 10.8.5 my external USB 3 harddisk (for TimeMachine Backup) does not wake up when my iMac wakes up from standby. The external disk is unmounted and a error message apears.
I had this problem really really rarely with 10.8.4 but now it is reproducable at any time.
    Any hints?
PS: Yes, I have turnes of sleep mode of my external harddard in energy settings.
    Thanks for any help...

I had the same problem with Time Machine and solved it by enabling "Enable Power Nap" in Energy Saver:
    System Preferences...
    Energy Saver
    Restore Defaults
Check "Enable Power Nap: While sleeping, your Mac can back up using Time Machine and periodically check for new email, calendar, and other iCloud updates."
