Monitoring 720 25p

Hi
I have an SD Sony monitor and am trying to monitor hdv 720p 25. Nearing exasperation!
Apparantly none of the cards for the Mac actually handle 720p 25 hdv and down convert to sd for monitoring.
I have tried using a cable splitter and to come out of the dvi port and convert to s video but just get lines - no picture.
Firewire wont handle hdv through a camera deck either.
Can anyone help am I missing something?
Thanks
Trevor

FCP 5.1.2, the most current version, supports 25p HDV.
All high def capture cards support this format: Decklink Extreme HD, AJA Kona LH (Kona 3 with converter box), Matrox MXO (MXO is output only).

  • Varicam footage shot at 720/25p

We are working on a 3 hour minseries. About 2/3rd of the footage is original Panasonic varicam shot at 720/25p. The other third will be stock and stills from a variety of NTSC and PAL sources (it's an historical project). I need to end up with a primary PAL version and also a secondary NTSC version. Because I anticipate a lot of rendering to match formats, I'd like to create an offline version with as small files as possible and then conform to an HD PAL format on our fcp.
No one seems exactly sure about the best way to do this. We've been advised to log and capture at DV quality on the fcp. We anticipate a PAL broadcast, so we've been advised to do the offline at DV/50 instead of DV/25. (PAl tv being 50hz.) I'm assuming we can do this from a Panasonic 1200A deck with a direct firewire connection
Then, we've been told, conform the edl at 1080/50i (instead of at 720/25p because most tv stations prefer a 1080 master. This way we would control the upconvert ourselves rather than let someone else do it.
Because this is a large project with many tapes, we'd like to get started in the right way.
Does our plan make sense? What am I not thinking about?
I would love to hear from someone who has actually done this!
    Thanks, Chrisk1

You seem to keep asking the same question over and over, but moving the goal posts.
If you would state the facts (about your footage and FCP application) it would save a lot of time and frustration. The pople who anwer questions here are not Apple employees, they are video editors, doing it in their own time, and for no money.
When you CAPTURE the footage from the camera, the FCP settings should be EXACTLY the same as the footage you are capturing from the camera. This way, there is no compression - the compression was done in the camera. You want to avoid further compression if you can.
When you drop the footage onto a timeline, the timeline settings should be exactly as the footage was shot in-camera.
When you then move the project to FCP X, you use the 7toX application to convert the Final Cut Pro PROJECT for use in FCP X.
You do NOT convert the actual media files (in any way) they will be referenced by FCP X in the same way that FCP6 did. 7toX can be used for FCP 6 projects but there may be issues if you have any speed changes:
Only when you output your final movie, should you consider conversion - and if you have grainy night-time stuff, conversion is best avoided if possible.
Certainly avoid (what you repeatedly say you are doing) going from 1080i (interlaced) to 1080p (progressive).

  • Transfering ps cards hd 720 25p into finalcut

Im importing From p2 card DVCPRO HD 720 25p into final cut pro through log and capture. but when you play back the quick time movie or view the footate in the browser the image stobres and flickers and goes out of sink with voice.
what size processor is needed to play this format?
    any clues??
    cheers

    Hi,
    welcome to the forum.
You DON'T log and capture DVCPRO HD from P2 cards but use Log&Transfer to ingest P2 content.
    Log&transfer is right below Log&Capture.
If you are using an earlier version of FCP like 5.1.4 then go to file>import>Panasonic P2 but I am pretty sure that support for DVCPRO HD 720 25p only came with FCP6.
    best,

  • HVX 720 25p support - NAB is over

I am a European HVX200 user. When can I cut finally my 720 25p material? Before 3 years I am switched too mac, must I now really switch back to the PC?
    http://www.ag-hvx200.de

I know you are in Europe and all, but is there any reason you cannot shot 720p24 24PN? That is the frame rate of film, and this way you can get started and edit.
Or you can shoot 720p24 at 59.94 and convert to PAL later when there is support. I have seen some shows transferred from here to the UK and from the UK to here and they all look good.
I know it is a workaround, but at least you can get started. Apple is tight lipped about release dates for anything.
Dunno about raylight. Other than 720p25 what else does it offer?

  • Importing 720/25p from P2

Does anybody know if there is already a solution for importing 720/25p IN FCP.
    thanks

    OK...UPDATE.
Try this. I have been told (but do not have 720p25 footage to test this with) that if you take the 720p24 Easy Setup, duplicate it and change the framerates to 25, then it will work fine. This answer is so easy and obvious that for some reason I overlooked it.
Please try it and report back. I'd love to know so that I can post it everywhere.

  • 720 25p video ?

Can you change the frame rate from 29.97 to 25 ?

I am talking about video standard here. US has NTSC (525 lines, 29.97 fps) and Europe PAL (625, 25 fps). With HD it gets better (both have 1080 and 720 lines) but each continent sticks with its own voltage (50 and 60 Hz), hence the 29.97 vs 25 issue.
To put it another way, every HD camcorder you buy in Europe makes 25 fps, not 29.97 fps. So if you live there and want to make a video with your iPhone, right now sticking with 29.97 is your only option, which does not make a lot of sense because you would not be able to use that footage with anything that comes out of a camcorder.

  • DVCPro HD 720 25p

    Hi,
I'm just sitting down to edit a short film and noticed that all the clips have come in at 50fps despite the DOP telling me they were shot at 25fps.
They seem to play fine in an FCP project with a sequence set to 25fps, so what's the deal? Is every other frame redundant? If I drop the clips into After Effects they timeline automatically defaults to 50fps.
I never transferred the clips and haven't seen this before, any advice?

Oh and yes it's playing back fine. In quicktime however it says it playing at about 37 fps even though it's coming off of a RAID with tons of bandwidth (can get 10 streams of HD no problem)
What's the downside if I just do a huge re-render down to 25fps on all the clips? (about 750 of them!)

  • Petition for Pal user, we need 720 / 25p now!!!

This is a petition to Apple to let us know when we can expect support for HDV1 (JVC's 720p version) and DVCPRO 720p at 25 or 50 fps. Apple - a lot of us in Europe have businesses based around your products and we also have clients that need post solutions NOW.
Please pal user, send some mails to apple, we need it NOW!!

  • 1080p monitor recommedation

I am looking to buy a 20-22" full HD LCD/LED monitor/TV to be driven by my BM Intensity Pro via HDMI.
I recently bought a Flatron 22" LED TV.  The only trouble is that, used in monitor mode via HDMI, the secondary colours cannot be adjusted - and the cyan is so far out that it's not useable.
A £1,000 - £2,000 Sony refernce monitor is out of my league.  Does any one here have any experience of a half-decent 1920x1080 monitor or LED TV that works adequately as a video preview monitor  - and one that that can be adjusted sufficiently to be acceptable (subjective, I know!)
I had my eye on the new sony 22" LED TV until I realised that it was 720p.  Shame, because the Sony colour engine is excellent.
    Thanks in advance.

    If it's not one thing...;-)
Okay, so I now have an HDMI external monitor that works pretty well have with the BM Intensity Pro.  Editing XDCAM 1080 50i is a treat but, to my horror...
    I had a choice recently of shooting 25p or 50i - and I chose 25p.
    Bad, bad idea.
The BM Intensity Pro does not support 25p - the monitor indicated a timing mis-match.
How do people here externally monitor a 25p edit on a 3rd monitor without spending a fortune on grown-up 3rd party cards such as the BM HD Extreme?  I know that I can use the 2nd monitor on my Quadro FX 3800, but that entirely defeats the object of a 3rd one.
    All suggestions greatly appreciated.

  • How can mode the Projekt to 720/ 50P

    My Prject is 1920x1080 25p , when i cange to 720/50p is only 720 / 25p possible.

You can't change the frame rate of a project if there are already clips in it. Make a new project in the specs you want, then copy and paste the content from the old project into the new.

  • Mts avchd 50fps showing as 25fps

I've just got a GH2.  Been shooting at 720 50p.  premire is reporting the fps as 25.  VLC sees the framerate as 50.  If I time remap or change speed, the result is jerky as it would be if shot at 25.
I just checked and it seems that my sony mts files also are not showing 50fps

    Hi John
thanks - I swear that my stuff was playing back at normal speed in premiere. I rebooted and realised that the footage seemed to be playing back at half speed in both the source and monitor windows: conclusion on a 720 25p timeline - whereas movs display as 50fps and play at normal speed, mts files display at 25fps BUT PLAY AT HALF SPEED - you need to double the speed to get them to play back at normal speed.
I now have a new problem, but I'll post in a separate thread

  • Xml file from studio 2 to fcp 4.5

Hi I have my son on the other side of the world to me just now, we shot a short film on DVCPRO 720/25p I loged on my mac and made a copy for him to take and edit, all good so far.
The school has fcp 4.5 qt 7.6 (ithink) and of course he is working on a version and the version I am so I have sent him a xml file which should match v1.
when loading it stops at 50% now would that have to do with the fact that 4.5 dose not like dcvpro as this was shot on 25p in his setting there are only 24 30 60 no 50 or 25, i can remember, back then there was a plugin to get it to work is there any one who can spread some light on what to do.
    Many thanks
    Trevor

This XML file is the complete contents of the Browser?
If so, does an export of a single sequence - if only for testing purposes - make any difference?

  • AVCCam Crashing FCP

    Hi,
Just back from Cannes where my latest short film was picked up by a distributor...aside from that great news, back to reality:
I'm just trying to load in some footage from the new HMC151 panasonic AVCCam.
However, everytime I try log and transfer it crashes FCP saying there's a problem with Perian. I've tried different Macs, card readers, using the camera as the reader etc, but the clips won't load in.
I tried shooting in 720/25p and the clips came in fine, but that doesn't help the fact I have a card full of 720/50p clips I need to get in and edit.
Any ideas? How do I remove Perian to get that out of the equation?
    Help as always appreciated.
    Kenny.

    It has an uninstaller.
    Look in the system preferences.

  • Stuttering playback on certain clips after render

Morning, I have just edited a music video for a local band but I've having trouble with the output.
The source is AVCHD 1080 50i and I am using that as the project setting too. one of the tracks has 3 0.5 second clips in which plays fine in the timeline, but on export it stutters or jumps. There is nothing wrong with the source, in fact 2 of the clips were filmed separately but put on to the same video track in the project.
If I put just those clips on a timeline and export there's no problem, but when in the music video with colour correction or without they don't render correctly
One thing I've found which is strange is that with each render the error is at a different point and looks different (sometimes a stutter, sometimes a jump and occasionally it's like the clip plays and then restarts)
I've exported to the following and it happens with them all, any ideas would be helpful:
    h264 AVCHD 1080 50i 30mbps
    MPEG2 1080 25p 50mbps
    h264 720 50p 5mbps
    WMV 720 25p 5mbps
I need to get this sorted ASAP as it was meant to be on the web earlier this week so any help would be greatly appreciated

I actually figured it out for anyone having a similar issue.....i think!
If you look at the item properties and it says MONO instead of RIGHT LEFT ...you need to double click on the audio clip and make sure both LEVEL and PAN are set at "0"
This fixed my problem so far

  • Bad conform of DVCPROHD clip?

I shot a clip with 50fps in 720/25p with Panasonic HVX200 and I have to conform the clip into 25fps so that FCP can read in slow motion.
After make the conform and opened the file in FCP, all is ok, the clip appears to be 960x720 but the problem is if I open that file into Motion or Shake the resulation of the file is 480x360. The info in Quicktime just tell me that the file have 480x360.
What happen? I need this file in true DVCPROHV real size.
Just a note, I'm in a PAL zone.

As part of clearing out space, I'm trying to move some movies to my external drive. I have noticed in the past however that iDVD files are not very fond of being moved, or of any file remotely associated with a project's contents being moved. If I have a folder which contains a DVD project and its associated movies, will it work after it's moved? Or will its criteria for referencing where certain files are suddenly have been proven false? Additionally, in general is there any way I can reduce the contriction iDVD makes on the mobility of movie files? Or if I want to keep a project for future burning do I need to keep all its files in the same place?
Lastly, why are some iDVD projects gigabytes in size wheras others are a few hundred megabytes (with similar amounts of footage)? Do some include the movies within the file, and other merely reference them as described above? I'll also post this question in the iDVD forums if need be, but I suppose its somewhat related to iMovie. (iDVD 6 by the way)
