Monitoring DHCP leases with SNMP

Hi,
is there a way to monitor the number of DHCP leases (show ip dhcp binding) of a DHCP pool created on a 2960 switch?
Regards, Leonardo

Once I got my SNMP host to accept the correct attribute and configure the event trap all I had to do was add the trap command to the router.  I then bounced one of my low usage PRI's (which had 0 calls on it ) and got the following event traps on the SNMP host:

It doesn't tell you specifically which interface is down but at least it narrows it down to the gateway/router.  Most of our gateways have only one PRI anyway.
We use Spectrum One Click for network monitoring.

  • Monitoring DHCP leases from vrf tunnels

    Hello,
I am looking to monitor dhcp leases from vrf tunnels on a 4510R switch and be notified when a lease is handed out  Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to accomplish this?
    Thanks!

See http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_4t/12_4t4/ht_iimib.html . Assuming you're running the correct version of code, you can get VRF-aware CISCO-IPSEC-FLOW-MONITOR-MIB and CISCO-IPSEC-MIB support. You will need to make sure you have configured your device to allow for VRF-based SNMP polling. The VRF instances will not show sum totals for the system. To get that, you will need to poll using a non-VRF community string.

  • Monitoring Data Guard with SNMP?

I have configured Data Guard within two Oracle environments and have written a small Perl script which monitors the applied log service and sends an email if something fails to be applied.
I am assuming this is not the most efficient way of monitoring the systems and would like to use SNMP.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to monitor Data Guard using SNMP (traps)? If so would you know what documents are available?

  • [Q]: Static DHCP Lease with the WRT54GL...

    Hello,
I have replaced my old D-LINK router with a WRT54GL wireless router.
On the old router I could configure static DHCP entries, providing the same IP address to specific MAC addresses (from my different devices at home), and still continue to receive all other settings via DHCP (Like DNS servers that my ISP changes from time to time).
Using static IP addresses is not an option due that the ISP I'm connected changes the DNS settings frequently and my computers can't connect to the internet. Setting the WRT54GL router as DNS server on my computers is also not practical.
On the WRT54GL I could not find how to create static (or permanent) DHCP leases.  Is this possible?.. is this in the wish list for future releases of the firmware?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the quick response.
I was surprised that this (and maybe other) Linksys routers does not provide this simple feature.
All DHCP servers I know provide this feature and most of the unmanaged routers that provide DHCP services have this feature.

  • Monitor DHCP leases 5508 WLC

    Hello all,
We have 2 5508 WLCs setup with one being the primary controller on our LAN and the other being set up as a anchor controller in our DMZ. We use this configuration for our public wifi. What I would like to know if there is any way to find out how many DHCP leases the primary controller hands out to the public wifi users in a month? Is this sort of info logged?
Any and all information is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jim

Proxy disable is just going to bridge teh DHCP request to the wire vs having the WLC in the way.  Unless you are using a FW as your DHCP you shouldn't need to do that.
Does that client have a static IP?  Is this happening with more than one device?

  • Clients timeout on DHCP lease with Aironet 1141

    Hello
I have an interesting problem that I can't find a solution for.
    Backround info:
I'm setting up a Cisco Aironet 1141 (standalone mode, AP) to handle wireless traffic in the office. It gives out 2 mbssids, one of which authenticates domain users through a RADIUS server and places them in an appropriate VLAN (RADIUS options 64, 65, and 81). The other is a guest ssid that uses WPA-PSK and places users in the restricted guest VLAN. Physically, the AP is connected to a 3750 PoE Catalyst, to which RADIUS and DHCP servers are also connected. AP, SSIDs, RADIUS and EAP authentication all work. The configuration given below is a working configuration. People do get authenticated and do get placed in the appropriate vlan.
The problem is that, once authenticated, the "Obtaining IP Address" phase on the client hangs and most clients timeout without getting an IP address. Given that the DHCP server is on the same switch and a test simple ASUS Wi-Fi IP gives out the same scenario (except the multiple VLAN) at the speed of light, I don't think that it's a problem with the network connections between clients and the DHCP server.
After reading some topics here, I realized that probably other communication will be extremely slow, as well, but haven't tested that for sure.
Clients are all non-Cisco - smartphones, notebooks, etc. Most of them are 802.11G, not N.
    Configuration is attached below.

  • N82 does not correctly process DHCP leases

I have no problem attaching my new N82 to my, and friends, home wireless networks. However, it fails to connect to the Univeristy Campus network giving the error: "Web: No gateway reply!"
This is because the phone doesn't correctly process DHCP leases with the 'network of one'' (2545.255.255.255) subnet mask.
    Campus network details:
HP WAP 530 enterprise access point. The DHCP server is an ISC dhcp server giving out ip address in the standard private class C address range (192.168.1.0) with a subnet mask of (255.255.255.255), and a default route of 192.168.1.1.
This works on Windows 2000/XP/Vista and MAC OSX, but many embedded devices will not add the default route as they see it as outside their subnet. Many institutions use 255.255.255.255 to mitigate inter host communication.
This means I cannot use my N82 at work and I'm not happy. Beware, don't assume you can use your Nokia device at work.

If task manager says it's still running, then obviously it hasn't completed, contrary to what you said. Maybe this .exe process isn't written correctly. For example, maybe it is dependent on the current directory it is launched from, and so double-clicking it causes it to be launched from the directory it lives in, but when run from this java app, the working directory is somewhere else.

  • Monitoring hardware with SNMP

I am performing a Systems Admin role for 30 Solaris 10 systems (consisting of 67 Solaris zones and domains) at present.
My support team colleagues have installed Nagios (an open source SNMP based monitoring software) to enable alerting should any issues occur.
This works fantastically for our database tables, applications, and even elements such as memory usage, CPU usage, filesystem usage, processes running etc.
However, what this seems to lack is the ability to detect physical hardware failures.
For example, over the past month, I have by pure chance (walking past the systems and seeing error lights, or probing the system for training purposes to the other Sys Admin in my team) discovered two hardware failures, which we are not picking up with Nagios.
These were 1) a hard disk failure - all filesystems on this hard disk were RAID 1 metadevices, so from an filesystem / Nagios POV there was no error.
    2) A PSU failure - there is a redundant PSU in this system, so we did not lose the system, and from a functionality POV we did not have any issues.
Each of these errors shows up in the messages files, and also in the hardware probes Sys Admins run, such as prtdiag, or cfgadm for the disk, but Nagios failed to detect them.
So - my question is around whether it is possible to use snmp to query the hardware status on a Solaris 10 system?
I know SunMC is a monitoring suite which uses SNMP tables to query usage and hardware, so know it should be possible - I am just unable to figure out which tables to query, etc.
    Help, please!

What we're doing is writing a custom nagios module to scan /var/adm/messages and watch for problems. The hard bit it tuning it so it alerts for real problems and ignores the dross.

  • Would like to monitor teaming with snmp

    Hello,
I would like to use snmp to monitor the state of teaming/vibe. I can't seem to find much information on the subject in general and none specifically to do with teaming/vibe. Does teaming/vibe have an OID? If not, is there some way I can give it one? It is a java process and I can monitor a process such as java with snmp but I can't differentiate between different java processes such as indexServer and icecore. Any information or links would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Monitoring VLANs with SNMP

Can someone remind me how I can monitor a VLAN other than VLAN 1 with SNMP I think it's something along the lines of public@....
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jon

The @ represents community string indexing. So if you wanted to get snmp output for VLAN 200 you would do something like this:
    snmpwalk -Os -c public@200 -v 2c 10.1.1.1 dot1dTpFdbAddress
Keep in mind the flags I use above are from my specific snmpwalk utility (net-snmp) but you would add the @ to the comm string and then the value to collect the data

I will add this to my queue of SNMP bugs.
Incorrect data like this are because OS X looks like FreeBSD to the Net-SNMP project, but OS X has some new APIs/SPIs/KPIs that deprecate or eliminate those used by FreeBSD in an attempt to be a more secure consumer-oriented OS.

  • Can not connect with dhcp - renew dhcp lease will switch directly to manuel

    If have the following problem
I us apple Airport extreme to connect to internet.
I have 5 Macs, all connecting with airport . They work fine with DHCP. Since 2 weeks I have a problem that one computer – a mac book pro with 10.5.6 will not connect.
When I switch to dhcp and select renew dhcp lease it switch directly back to manuell. I have no chance to connect with dhcp.
    Has anyone a suggestion?
    Thanks

Wonder why Apple hasn't chimed in on this one...
Whenever you have an issue like this where it's fine, then DHCP stops working for any reason.... Reset the PRAM.
    How to:
    Apple Logo -> Restart.
After the screen goes black -> Hold down all 4 keys until you hear the third Bong.
"Option"+[Apple Logo OR key to the left of the space bar]"P""R"
After the third BONG or Apple Chime whatever you want to call it. The system's Parameter Ram or to the PC Crowd the CMOS has been reset. This resets your clock, brightness, volume, etc.... So things will get reset along the way but it also resets the IRQ and DMA stats on the logic board. Ala, reseting your Airport's Connection to the logic board, Controllers, etc.

  • EA3500 issue, possibily with DHCP lease renewal

I have a new EA3500 router that's working great for a variety of devices* except a Windows7 laptop.  24 hours after establishing a connection, the laptop loses connectivity and it's very difficult to re-establish a connection.  Usually I have to reboot the router, but 24 hours later the problem returns and Windows is unable to connect.
My router settings include DHCP client lease time set to 1440 minutes (24 hours), so I thought the problem might have something to do with DHCP lease renewal.  To test this theory, on Saturday night I did ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew and established connectivity from the laptop.
Sunday morning I spoke with Linksys support and changed several settings per their recommendation:
Network mode mixed (I had it on N-only for some reason)
Assigned different SSIDs to the 2.4GHz band and 5 GHz band
2.4 GHz band channel is 20MHz only, using channel 9
5 GHz band channel is 40 MHz only, using channel 161
I also power cycled the router.
Everything worked fine until Sunday night, 24 hours after the release/renew, when I lost connectivity.  I am not sure what to try next and whether the problem lies with the router or the laptop.
    * other devices include Macbook, 3 iPhones, iPad, 2 Kindles, printer, DVD player

If you are only having this problem with the laptop then there is a possibility that the problem might really be with the laptop. What you can do on the router though is to add the laptop on DHCP reservation. In that way, even if the router’s DHCP Lease time will stop, the laptop will still be connected since the laptop will now have a fix ip address.
