Motif 2.1.2

Hallo,
is it possible to install Motif 2.1.2 on Solaris 8 x86?
If yes, where can I obtain Motif 2.1.2 package/source?
Can I install motif 2.1.2 (SUNWmfrm) from Solaris 9 x86 on Solaris 8x86?
I want to install Motif 2.1.2 on Solaris 8 because Eclipse 2.1.3 generates an error on exit and the Java VM does not terminate. The error message says that XtDestroyWidget causes an error outside the VM.
Eclipse 2.1.3 on Solaris 9 x86 (Motif 2.1.2) does not generate this error.
So my guess is that Motif 2.1.1 on Solaris 8 causes this error and I want to replace it by Motif 2.1.2 that comes with Solaris 9!
I have tried several patches but nothing worked!
Kind regards
Jochen

Well, I answer my own question!
I have installed the package SUNWmfrun from Solaris 9 x86 on my Solaris 8 x86 box.
Everything works fine and I do not get the Eclipse error any more.

  • How can I use the sounds of the Yamaha Motif XF6 in Logic Pro 9?

    I have Logic Pro 9 on my Mac Book. I also have a Yamaha Motif XF 6 synthesizer. Instead of using Logic's software instruments I would like to record the sounds of the Motif directly into Logic.
    I have been told that an audio interface is necessary for this. What kind of audio interface would be good for this? Any in particular?
    And, once I have obtained the interface, what steps do I need to take to hook up the Motif into Logic to utilize the Motif's sound bank?
    Detailed steps would help, as this is new stuff for me.
    Thanks!

    Since this is a user forum only, and your questions will take a lot of time to answer you might want to check both the Logic manual and the XF6 manual. The XF6 has possibilities such that you may not need and Audio interface if the Firewire option is present.
    Also you have a built in USB MIDI interface as well, you will need to download the Yamaha MIDI driver.
    Read Exploring Logic Pro, especially chapter five, you can record your performance via MIDI, edit it and then commit to audio.
    Dig in.

  • How can I use Java to do Seismic programming as Motif?

    One of my friend recently finished a seismic on-site data processing program using
    Motif on Solaries.He asked me if I can implement the same function to use Java language
    so that the program can run on different platforms such as Windows,Unix.
    Seismic data is usually enormous.And I don't have any experence in plotting seismic
    curves by using Java.
    Is there any seismic processing software programmed with Java available?
    I will appriciate any help.
    Thank you

    I think the point is not the word seismic than 'how to plot curves in Java.'.
    You can find many resources about plotting curves you want in Java2D.

  • 64 Bits and Motif

    I compile a Motif application in 64 bit as follows:
         CC -xtarget=generic64 -g -c fonttest.C
         CC -xtarget=generic64 -g -o fonttest fonttest.o -lstdc++ -lm -lXm -lXt -lX11
    it compiles just fine. But when I run it I get the following errors at runtime:
    Warning: Cannot convert string "-dt-interfacesystem-medium-r-normal-m*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*" to type FontSet
    Warning: Unable to load any usable fontset
    Warning:
    Name: FONTLIST_DEFAULT_TAG_STRING
    Class: XmRendition
    Conversion failed. Cannot load font.
    this error repeats several times. I load a font manually for the
    drawing area and it works fine, but the (default) fontset stuff fails.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanx,
    scott

    When you load a font by hand, do you load this font,
    or some other? The message means that your app can't
    find the font requested. Find some font you know that
    you have and use it. You may be setting a default
    font in one of your dot files.

  • Motif look and feel

    if i run the following code,it displayes a dialog with missing title text
    import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
    import javax.swing.UIManager;
    public class TestMotif {

         public static void main(String[] args) {

                   e.printStackTrace();
              JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "done", "Confirmation Dialog for testing",
                        JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE);
    in motif look and feel(system look and feel for solaris os)the dialog size is dependent on the message text length not on tilte text length.
    whereas in other look and feel the dialog size is dependent on both message and title text length.I raisedn it in sun's bug but didnt get any reply.Can anyone tell how can it be fixed in jre level.

    It's not the answer you want to hear, but it's pretty simple:
    Write your own JDialog subclass that implements the behavior you want. It should be pretty straightforward to write a JOptionPane message dialog clone.

  • Using  Yamaha  Motif  8  on  G.Band 1

    I am trying to use my Yamaha Motif 8 in Garage Band.
    I can get it to work, but it only plays limited Garage Band effects.
    Also, when playing on Motif 8, its not quite as loud over the Imac
    as it is when I bring up a G.Banb keyboard and click one of those keys with my mouse.
    I'd really just like to play all the Motif 8's effects in G.Band.
    Is there maybe a more up to date version or another program I need?

    I am trying to use my Yamaha Motif 8 in
    Garage Band.
    How do you have it connected to your Mac?
    -- I have an input and an output from my "Motif 8" keyboard.
    Those two end merge into one end that plugs into the Mac.
    can get it to work, but it only plays
    limited Garage Band effects.
    What do you mean by GB Effects? Do you mean GB instruments?
    --- Yes, Garage Band instruments. I'd like "Motif 8" instrument sounds to come through Garage Band.
    I'd really just like to play all the Motif
    8's effects in G.Band.
    This is confusing. Are you trying to record sound shte Motif makes, OR are you trying to play GB instruments?
    --- I'm not trying to play GB instruments.
    I'm trying to get GB to let me play "Motif 8" instruments and effects. When playing Motif 8 instruments, I would like to record when ready.

  • CDE Motif Forms

    Hi
    I dont know whether this is the correct forum to post the question but i think the issue might me because of some installation problems hence posting it here.
    I have a Sun Ultra 10 with Solaris 8 and sunrays and when i access oracle forms ( motif version) from the console as well as from sunray clients differ in display (format is not same) when i access the same forms connecting to same server from a windows machine using x-win( from starnet) , go-global ( www.graphon.com) , cygwin-xfree86(opensouuce) , VNC(opensource).
    Oracle already came back with saying the problem is with x related and not oracle related hence
    unable to understand is the problem because of some setting in motif on the server or , fonts on the clients ( WHich i tried with all combination of fonts misc, 100dpi , 75 dpi, openwin, suncde) without any luck or is there a bug or limitation to access motif across different mediums such as x-win and accessing locally.
    Please help.

  • Cant get motif XF8 to work with logic 9

    I cannot get my motif XF8 to work with Logic 9, nor is it working with any other DAW.  I have used the motif since last summer and it has always been hit or miss with MIDI.  Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.  The cord is connected appropriately. I am mystified, and embarrassed to admit that I really don't get MIDI at all.  I have a  Macbook pro that is a year old or so.  Please help.

    Uh . . . . .  I had to adjust Motif as in Utility/Control then set the MIDI In/Out to USB.   I felt very silly when I found this out.

  • Motif XS88 and Duet

    I have the latest Yamaha USB drivers installed. Problem is when recording audio tracks from the Motif there is noise, unless I unplug the USB cable from the Motif. Software instruments are noiseless. It's almost like the midi USB and the audio in from the Motif are causing a loop or something. Any suggestions on changing configurations in Logic or Motif greatly appreciated. Don't use the Motif for midi recording so I don't need it set up as an external midi instrument or as a Logic controllor. Basically only record direct audio tracks from this board. Many thanks

    Thanks Eric. Ya, thats what I have been doing, just unplugging the USB. Peculiar how the Audio tracks through a geetar or mic are very quiet. Only when I record Motif in an audio track with the USB plugged in do I get this noise. I initially set up the Motif to control Logic, and it was a lot of adjusting. I'm fine just using the Motif occasionally for some audio tracks. So, I dont think its a ground problem more perhaps something I did when initially setting up Logic and Motif to communicate with each other.

  • How do I get Logic Pro to recognize Yamaha Motif Rack XS MIDI Sounds

    I have connected my Yamaha Motif Rack XS Tone Generator to the Logic Pro computer via USB and have installed the latest Yamaha Driver on the computer, as well.  I have enabled the USB TO HOST terminal of the Yamaha Motif Rack XS.  I am not able to find any trace of the Motif Rack in Logic Pro.
    Has anyone successfully set up the Motif Rack XS with Logic Pro?

    Make sure the power is off the irig and then plug it in.
    took me a few tries, restarting the computer etc.  brand new Mavericks 13"
    Now it seems to recognize it on the computer as an input.
    Logic seems to be listening to it (when I jiggle the cable)
    but I still can't get a mic to work....

  • Motif L&F: support for color schemes?

    I want to use the Motif L&F in my Java application, but I want the color scheme to be chosen as per the users installed Color theme(using the CDE Style Manager).
    Having a default bluish grey UI does not blend well with my 'Desert' or 'Delphinium' color theme... how can I achieve this in my java app with minimal code?
    Thanks

    Doesnt look like Sun provided support for Themes in
    Motif L&F...
    I tried the SwingSet demo on Solaris, and when Motif
    L&F is chosen, the Theme drop down gets disabled...Got Mantis? The GTK L&F in 1.4.2 supports themes. Otherwise, you might be able to do what you want by subclassing MotifLookAndFeel--just that class, I mean, not the whole L&F. You would actually be creating a new L&F that uses all of the Motif UI delegate classes, but replacing its color scheme with your own. I've never tried it, so it might not be that simple--and if it takes any more effort than that, it's not worth it. Not with the GTK L&F already out there, and the Synth L&F coming in 1.5.
    and, as an aside, the SwingSet font in the 'view
    source' pane is extremely small and unreadable on
    Solaris... looks like sloppy workmanship!
    It's the same on Windows. I believe it's due to a known bug that causes the HTML renderer to make Swing's already-too-small fonts, even smaller.

  • Motif L&F cancel JPopupMenu missing listener

    Hi all,
    I have a JButton and a JPopupMenu
    I would like to show JPopupMenu when JButton is pressed
    popupMenu.addPopupMenuListener(new PopupMenuListener() {
    public void popupMenuWillBecomeVisible(PopupMenuEvent event) {
    System.out.println("Visible");
    public void popupMenuWillBecomeInvisible(PopupMenuEvent event) {
    System.out.println("Invisible");
    public void popupMenuCanceled(PopupMenuEvent event) {
    System.out.println("Canceled");
    button.addMouseListener(new MouseAdapter(){
    public void mousePressed(MouseEvent event) {
    System.out.println("Pressed");
    if (match some condition) {
    popupMenu.show(button, 0, button.getHeight());
    When I haven't change the L&F
    The output is correct:
    // First time of pressing the button
    Pressed
    Visible// Second time of pressing the button
    Canceled
    Invisible
    Pressed
    Visible ...The problem is when I using Motif L&F
    The "Pressed" is missing and need to perform one more click
    // First time of pressing the button
    Pressed
    Visible// Second time of pressing the button
    Canceled
    Invisible// Third time of pressing the button
    Pressed
    Visible ...My program will change L&F at runtime and I would like to provide same behaviour of the popup.
    Could anyone tell me how to provide same behaviour even at Motif L&F?
    Thank you very much
    Roy

    I don't think that changing L&F might change behavior of firing events.
    Maybe the problem is somewhere in your code...
    Maybe you set different values of some variables before changing L&F, then you change L&F and then it doesn't work as you want. It seems to you that the problem is in L&F, but I don't think so.
    Take a look at your code again and try to find a bug there, not in L&F.

  • How to create motif Region in Java???

    How can u create Motif Region In Java or Java Swing???

    Regions in motif are arbitrary set of pixel locations. You can locate a point or rectange in a region.

  • Sending midi via Motif USB to Logic.

    Can someone explain how to set up my Mac,Logic pro 9 & Motif es6 to send midi note messages to Logic? I just need to use my Motif as a midi controller.I downloaded the drivers on my Mac & hopefully it is there!
    Thanks.

    If it is installed correctly then...
    Open Logic, create a new project... add a software instrument track... (You can add a software instrument to that track to hear notes at this point too) select that track.. and just play notes on your Motif6  and look at the transport bar to see if those notes are being received by Logic... They will appear under Note In...
    If midi notes are not received then the Motif is not being recognised correctly by your Mac.. (It's actually nothing to do with Logic itself.. it's OS Xand the drivers you installed that control everything) and so you need to check you installed the drivers correctly but normally, it's pretty much plug and play....

    I have to import sun.awt.motif.* but i don't know where to find it. Can you tell me the name of the .jar file i have to download? i have j2re1.4.0_02 installed.

    You will have better luck if you post to a Mozilla forum/newsgroup. You may have downloaded the wrong package or the code for Webclient is not compatible with JDK 1.4. Either way, the sun.* packages are not something you can just downlaod and add it in your classpath
