Motion 5.2 Missing Image Mask?

I recently noticed (probably coincident with update to 5.2, but not sure) that when I add an Image Mask, I can only see it in the Timeline, not in the layers. In the picture below, you can see the group in both Layers and Timeline, but only in the Timeline does the Mask appear. It's there; you can see the effect of the transparency gradient in the Viewer. Anybody else experiencing this? Anybody have an idea why and/or a suggested solution? Much prefer to work with Layers with Timeline hidden. Thanks for any suggestions.

You need to click the show/hide masks button.

  • Image Mask doesn't import from FCPro to Motion?

I have some footage in final cut that i put an image mask on. The image mask was created in photoshop and knocks out a rectangular shape in my footage. Works great in FCPro.
I export it out as a .MOV with the animation CODEC set to millions of colors+. I read that codec is the only one that retains alpha channels.
I thought my image mask would create an alpha channel but when I import that into Motion, their is no alpha channel and the rectangular shape that should be invisible is now visible.
    Any suggestions?

Check out the sequence settings of the FCP sequence you're exporting from.
If it's NOT animation millions +, then you'll need to export an UNrendered
sequence using Quicktime conversion to animation millions +
to get the alpha channel. If you render it before exporting,
    you lose the alpha channel.
If the sequence settings are animation millions + , then it doesn't matter.
BTW, both JPEG2000 and PNG also support alpha channels.

  • Motion Behavior with Image Mask

I am having a hard time attempting to make an image move in Motion but not become visible until it passes through a certain location.  I tried searching but think I am just asking the wrong the questions.  I basically have an image that is going to slide open with a Motion Behavior but I only want part of the image visaible until it moved through a certain point.  Any suggestions or ideas would greatly be appreciated.

All objects are contained within a Group, even at the top level, including images.
Animate your image as you want (keyframe, Throw behavior, etc.).
Add an Image Mask to the Group level (select the group and type Command Shift M).
Draw a rectangle that will become a "viewport" for your image to "enter" into (preferably within the group with the image.)
Drag and drop the Rectangle layer (from the layer list) onto the Image Mask added to the group (the rectangle layer should become deactivated [unchecked] automatically; if not, uncheck it in the layers list.) [The Rectangle object must be Filled; whether or not you have it outlined is up to you.]
    Play.

  • Image Mask confusion

I'm trying to create an image mask but I'm stuck.
I can create the mask on an object. But when I attempt to drag an image into the well, the moment my mouse button goes down, the image is selected instead of the mask and so the inspector changes and there's no more well to drag it into.
Is there a trick to this? What am I missing?

Well, to drag it into the well, just click down, hold and drag to the well in one motion - don't let up. Otherwise, you can just just drag it to the image mask in the timeline or layer display... Cursor turns into a curved arrow, let go.

  • IWeb site update problem-app missing images/files, but site is ok

I created and uploaded a web site to my .mac (yeah, MobileMe) and it displays just fine. I have visited it from a couple of different comps. The problem is that I want to add/update files/pages, but when I open iWeb, several of the images/audio files do not display: shows a x-through and a centered question mark. They are in the sites idisk folder and in the laptop's copy of the files. When I try to replace the missing images/files by dragging onto the iWeb drafting page the following message appears: "the file can't be used because you don't have access privileges, or because it contains no content or was corrupted."
I'm afraid to make any updates for fear of losing what is already published.
Extra info: have family pack and am switching between .mac accounts because iWeb published to the iDisk corresponding to the account/sub-account you are logged into (BIG pain in the ***! It should have a password protected account toggle like Panther used). I have double-checked that the files for this site are only in the one iDisk account (am redirecting my masked domain url to the .mac iDisk server-works great.
    Any ideas?

The upgrade from '06 to '08 which changed the domain.sites to a domain.sites2 caused more confusion, disasters and lost web sites than the bug ridden introduction of '09.
I ended up rebuilding all my sites from new, blank domain files in '08 and the conversion to '09 went OK apart from '09's nasty habit of changing media file links.
Fortunately, I have very little QuickTime content and don't use the iWeb Photos, Albums Blog or Podcast templates.
Most iWeb built sites look pretty awful when users stick to the default page width. I start from a Blank, Black or white page and trash everything on it.
I use the "standard" 980 px page width and most, if not all, of the iWeb themes do not adapt to this.
This is why I constantly ask the question. "Do the iWeb developers actually build any websites with the application?".
Perhaps if they did, we would get more bug free releases and some of the features that "real life" users are requesting.

  • No luck with applying Image Mask!

Im trying to add an Image Mask to a video clip in Motion.
I added the Image Mask to the clip per the instructions then added one of the Brushstroke movies from the Content folder in the Library.
The dashboard shows me that the movie is in the well.
But Im seeing no masking going on.
No matter what blend or source setting I choose, I see no masking.
    What am I doing wrong?

I happened to be mucking about with the brushstroke clip the other day. If you're looking to have the image appear as the brush drags across, you can simply drop the clip on top of the image layer and set the blend mode to silouhette luma. Ya get something like this:
    http://homepage.mac.com/longstrider/iMovieTheater12.html
I tried to apply it as a mask also, but because the pbrush is positioned at the bottom of the frame, it didn't do the trick for me.
    Hope this is helpful

  • Deleting image masks

PC, Windows XP, Acrobat Professional version 8. I have a PDF file of a map (132 x 36 and 7 MB in size) in which I am trying to reduce the PDF version it is saved in to Acrobat 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x). I choose Document/Reduce file size, select 'Acrobat 6.0 and later', and then click save. Upon clicking Save I get an error msg. 'The PDF document contained image masks that were not downsampled.' and then another error msg. saying 'Could not find the XObject named 'Im0'.'. The resulting file comes up either completely blank (literally white) or partially blank (white). Is there a way to delete the image masks so the entire map is visible?

Have you tried copy/pasting the elements from the other Motion projects (by opening them all at once) instead of importing?

  • Image Mask Transition.... Premiere Elements 10... Someone please help!!!!!

I have followed the instructions to the letter on p136 of the "premiereelements_10_help.pdf" and somehow the image mask transition just does not seem to work.
With a Black & White one colour should be transparent to one clip and the colour to the other clip, but instead I just get the Black & White image thrown on the screen.
Just like a pasted inage into the joined clips.
Please can someone help as I'm sure there must be a step missing.
Using WIndows 7 x64 with the 64 bit version of Premiere Elements 10.
    Thanks.

No worries. Thank you so much for your reply. I thought I was going MAD!!! ( I slowly was!!! )
Will Contact Adobe about this tomorrow.
In the meantime if you're reading this and also are using Windows 7 x64 with the 64-bit version of Adobe Premiere Elements 10,
please try using the "Image Mask" transition using the following steps (as per page 136 of the Premiere Elements 10 manual)
<------------------------------ From Adobe Premiere Elements 10 PDF Manual - Follow these steps to the letter. Play your clip back... watch it fail on Win 7 x64 ---------------------------------------->
    Create special transitions
    Create an Image Mask transition
You can use a black-and-white bitmap image as a transition mask.
The first clip replaces the black area in the image, and the second clip replaces the white areas in the image.
If you use a grayscale image for the mask, pixels containing 50% or more gray convert to black, and pixels containing less than 50% gray convert to white.
    Apply an Image Mask transition
In the Tasks panel, click Edit, and then click Transitions .
From the menus in the Transition view, select Video Transitions from the first menu, select Special Effects from the second menu, and locate the Image Mask transition.
Drag the Image Mask transition to a cut between clips in the Timeline.
In the Image Mask Settings dialog box, click Select Image.
Locate and select the image file you want to use as a transition mask, and click Open. The image appears in the Image Mask Settings dialog box.
    Click OK.
    Cheers.

  • Add Image Mask Problems

Hi, I've recently installed Motion 2 and I've been experimenting with the 'Add Image Mask' function but for some when I to add the image mask to an object no tab appears in the layers list, I just get a small textured grey box next to the object name?
Image Mask will appear in the dashboard, timeline and inspector, but once I click another object they disappear and I have no way of getting them back up again. Any ideas?

Okay, I've just realised you can access the Image
Mask from the timeline but is there anyway of getting
    it in the layers tab?
In the layers tab there should be a small arrow on the left of the object with the mask. Click the arrow and reveals the mask.

  • Different image masks have invisible link?

I have had a few times now that when I apply an image for the mask to an image mask filter (Video Filters/Matte/Image Mask) in FCS2, another image mask filter (at the same time position but in an other video track) suddenly adopts that same image mask, while it was supposed to use another mask. If I then go to that other mask and re-adjust its image mask, the first filter swaps to that image too....
One time it was so bad that I had to remove the two image mask filter from the videos twice and replace it with a fresh image mask filter before this unwanted crosstalk between the two masks disappeared.
Am I missing something, is this normal behaviour?

    Hi Aishvarya
Q.1. How have you placed the images in the gallery? Did you use the Add Image option from the slideshow wizard or did you copy and paste the images in the gallery?
A.1. With the initial gallery on the first gallery page I loaded the images via the slideshow wizzard, then I copied the entire widget, containing those images, three times onto each of the three remaining gallery pages in tern.
Q.2. If you have published the site, please provide us the site URL.
A.2. I haven't published the site yet as it's unfinished however I can do this for you if you need to see what I have done so far. Is this something you need me to do?
What I need to know is how I can build a completely sepperate gallery containing images unique to that gallery on each of four pages. I'm gathering by the first question that I would need to place the gallery widget from the widget gallery on each of the four pages sepperately and in tern.
    Thanks

  • Multiple Image Masks

How do I create three individual image masks on three separate videos (which I know how to do) and then be able to move the videos behind the masks without the masks themselves moving?...
...all I have used to date is the Image Mask filter with a white rectangle covering 1/3 of the screen...should I be using a different filter or effect?...

...my intent is to specify exactly where a clip will be shown having the screen split with different camera angles, while at the same time showing only a portion of the original clip, and being able to motion the video behind the 'mask' without the mask moving...
That's exactly why I suggested the use of masks that are separate clips and of the Make Transparent filter... I suggest you to check the filters instructions and to try it yourself. In any case it's quite simple to use:
    - drag the mask clip (either a generator or an imported custom greyscale still) into the timeline on any track above your clip to be masked - now the mask completely hides the clip below
    - drag the Make Transparent filter over the mask clip in the timeline: now the white areas of the mask will become transparent and will show the clip below (look at the canvas to see the result)
    - apply any motion, cropping, distortion, etc. to your clip below the mask and the mask will not be affected.
Note that if you want 3 clips together on screen you have to repeat the above steps for each clip: at the end you'll have 3 clips, each with its own mask on top, stacked in 6 tracks of the timeline: the tricky part now is to change the Center, Scale and/or Crop for each clip and its own mask in order to lay them out in the frame as you need. But each clip may have a different mask shape and be modified without affecting its own mask.
Let me know if it works

  • Drawing image masks

Can I draw an image mask in Final Cut with the pen tool? Seems like I should be able to. I know how to in Motion - seems like FCP should too?
    Thanks!
    Message was edited by: mrkeeney

FCP's Pen Tool is used to adjust keyframes.
It is not for drawing as you might use it in Motion or Photoshop, for example.
What you want is a Garbage Matte tool. These are provided in FCP but you might find them somewhat basic if you want to draw accurately as they have a maximum of 8 points. A guy called Paul Crisp made a free set wich includes a 64 point matte, they were here: http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/eureka.html but that link is no longer working.
I have them if you want -click my name for the email address.
If you need absolute precision, then you need a real rotoscoping application such as Shake, Sillouette or Mocha. Photoshop CS 3 and above also does decent roto if you have the skill and patience.
You will also need a Wacom tablet to do this properly (Tip: don't go for the Bamboo -get an Intuos)

  • Replicate and image mask

    Hi(Bonjour)!
    Here's the problem:
I create a nice big white text and want to use it to restrict a replicator to the form of the text itsel.
When I drag the text layer into the source image mask well in replicator tab, the replicator doesn't seem to limit itself to the letter's shape.
I encountered this problem when trying to learn this tutorial in Motion 3:

    Michel Boissonneault

    Hi(Bonjour)!
After Motion project file exchange with SpecialCase, here's a follow up:
As I understand, my project file works on another computer but not on my system.
So I correctly followed all instructions on the tutorial pages, but my system cannot render the "effect" of maping replicator shape by an image (by the way I haven't more success with shape maping either for replicator and emitters.
The problem seems to be related to Alpha cutoff command: o% give me a full rectangle (as expected) and any value greater than o% occults the replicator image.
I use a PowerMac G5 dual 2.3 4.5 gig RAM, ATI radeon X1900Gt G5 edition 256 meg VRAM, MAC OS X 10.4.10, quicktime 7.1.6, Motion 3.0.1, fresh install of FCS 2, no previous versions.
All other commands in Motion are working, with very few stabilility problem (if I compare to posts on this forum).
So, If someone got success with this tutorial project:
    http://www.motionsmarts.com/tutorials/pain/pain1.html
please write here your mac specifications to see if there is an issue with hardware/software for this function (image or shape maping for replicator or emitters).
    Thank you.

  • Is there a way to create a report of topics with missing images?

If I move all images in a project to a different directory,
is there a way to print out which topics have missing images?
I would like to have all images in the HTMLHelp folder, since
this is the default folder that images are copied to when I insert
them from another source folder. If I move all images from my
"Images" folder to the HTMLHelp folder, is there a way to generate
a report that lists all topics with missing images?
Normally, I've been using the "Images" report to determine
which topics used that image before I moved them, but I'd like a
report that denotes which topics are missing images, period.
    thanks in advance,
    ChristyG

    Hi ChristyG
As long as you only move the images within the RoboHelp
    project, none should go missing!
Unfortunately, I don't believe you have an easy report at
your disposal that will advise which topics contain missing images.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Cannot reduce file size in Acrobat X due to "image masks"

Occasionally, when I try to reduce the file size of a PDF file in Acrobat X, I am getting the error message that the file was not re-rendered because of "image masks".
What precisely does this mean? How are image masks created in the PDF production process and how do I avoid them going into the file?
In this case, it was a simple Word document including a text and two semi-transparent GIF images on top of each other placed behind the text.
    Any help would be appreciated!

Try to flatten the pdfs that should get rid of the masks (use Preflight tools).
