Motion with 24p

If I were working in Final Cut 7, using 1080/24p footage that I'd shot with a Sony HXR-NX5U, how would I go about setting up Motion so that what I created would be compatible with my FCP sequence, which is at 23.98? It seems the Motion templates are set at 29.97, but there are also Project Presets which let you choose different cameras and frame rates. Which one for the HXR-NXU5?

Well, if you use Send to Motion from FCP, the project should be created that matches your timeline.
Otherwise, chose custom from new project and alter the settings as appropriate.

  • 24p users? or anyone with 24p knowledge

I am considering switching my Nikon D40x for the new Nikon D3100 that autofocus video, BUT it shoots 1080 24p not 1080 30p! I know people were waiting for the 24p, but now I am confused. If you shoot 24p, can you in imovie:
    1. Combine footage or must you stay with 24p.
    2. export to other formats such as 720
    3. 24p vs 30p....how does it handle? Is it harder to work with?
The Canon does 1080 30p, but its manual focus. I am not a professional here...I mostly take family stuff. The cost to move to the d3100 isn't bad since I already have lenses.

Sheryl, OK Here are my tests.
First, here is some [24fps 320x240 from Kodak Z760 rendered in a 24fps iMovie 11 project.|http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcJrvH7SFr4] iMovie rendered this at the Mobile preset.
Second, here is [30fps 1080i AVCHD and 18 fps 1080P Motion JPEG from 8MM film on the same timeline, rendered at 1080P at 30 fps.|http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfKGtRhwjmQ]
    Finally, here is a kitchen sink timeline. [30fps 1080i AVCHD, 18fps 1080P Motion JPEG (from 8MM film), 30 fps 640x480 AIC from VHS, 30 fps 640x480 DV, 30 fps 720P from a Kodak Z812IS, 24 fps 320x240 from Kodak Z760.|http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VF0QJv3RHJM] Rendered in 1080P at 30fps.
There is another level of testing that I do not have the equipment to do:
    1) 24fps in HD
    2) Is there a difference between true 24fps, and 24fps that is achieved through 3:2 pulldown?

  • Is there a way to wake an ipad up by detecting motion with the front camera?

I am using the iPad for an HMI Display To control a machine and want it to be able to wake up from sleep just by detecting motion with the front camera rather than having to push any buttons on the iPad, is this even possible?

No apple store, or Best Buy or anything like that.  Again, she lives in a very remote area.   The closest stores are roughly 6 hours away.   I suppose she can go to a friends house that has a computer but then she is setting up her ipad on someone else's computer.    Since she's been able to use the thing out of the box (and without a computer) for over a year, we were just hoping to this without the need of a computer.   I guess we will just have to wait for her next visit to us in the city.
    Thanks.

  • Motion with Avid

I need help badly! I'm on this project that has a tight deadline. I've used motion with FCP in the past with no problem. But for the life of me I can not get the alpha channel to work with Avid. I'm not real knowledgeable in this field. Could someone walk me through this? I want to create titles in motion then export them to QuickTime, then import the QuickTime file within my avid project and lay it over video on my sequence. How do I do this? I'm desperate!!!

I haven't used or had to provide elements to an Avid system in about 5 or 6 years now, but I hope I can help.
I'm not sure if avid has support for a QT with imbedded alpha now, (it didn't then)
When I would render out elements from Flame, Combustion or AE, I would render out both the fill and the alpha.
In AE and Combustion I would render out via the Avid Meridian codec the fill and then the alpha.
If the Avid still requires a separate alpha, you can easily render out the two elements in Motion.
First render your fill (Lossless animation or Avid codec if it's still available standalone.) Click options on the Export Dialog, click the Options tab, for Color, select Color from the drop down menu.
Then render your alpha (to the same codec). Click options on the Export Dialog, click the Options tab, for Color, select Alpha from the drop down menu.
I'm fuzzy on the import into Avid since it's been so long and I'm not sure if it's changed any.
I really hope that sets you off in the right direction.

  • Ipod touch 4G stuck on swirling motion with black screen

So I jailbroke my ipod with absinthe a few days ago and everything has been working fine but today i used an app i downloaded from cydia (cant remember the name) and it started to respring and went on for a long time so restared my ipod and everything but it still came back to the same screen of a swirling motion with black screen after passing the apple logo. I tried restoring the ipod on itunes but an error keeps occuring and it wont allow me to restore. Itunes wont read my ipod either. My ipod will not allow me to do anything. What should I do?

Go elsewhere. Jailbreaking voids the Apple warranty. It also means that you will not get any help from Apple, including from this Apple forum.

  • Transfer from FCP to Motion with video effect

I am trying to transfer a clip from fcp that has a video effect (matte) wehn I open it in motion the matte is no longer there, how to I transfer the clip into motion with the effect still intacted?

None of your effects will carry over to Motion. Speed changes, color corrections, keys, etc... Why? See this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1375867&#1375867
You can do as avidvid says and export to "fix" your effects then bring the file back in, but that won't carry the alpha over...

  • Create Slow Motion WIth A Timer?

I had asked in another forum if it was possible to have 2
different FPS's in a movie. And the answer was no. What i wanted to
do was have some slow motion parts in my movie. The same person who
answered said that it is possible with a timer. I have never used a
timer. And all the research i do on it comes up with Countdown
timers, and clocks, everything but what i would assume i need. Can
anyone help or clarify this for me?
I am making a sprite movie ( i know learn how to draw). I
think there fun. And mine are a bit more creative than most as far
as story and things in it. But there are some parts of the action
that i would like to slow down.
Let me know if you need anymore info.
    Thanks.

    I think WOWZA (

    has examples of it running
from their server. Not sure if the demo is online, but it
    comes with the
server install. Developer versions are free. Maybe it'll give

  • Is there a youtube that shows MOTION 5 doing 3D Motion with Objects, not Text?

Is there a youtube that shows MOTION 5 doing 3D Motion with Objects, not Text? Here is an example of WHAT I want to do.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thMyEKXG65Y    This is ME and my demo youtube, which shows my FX work using an Old G5, and Final Cut Express that is at least 6 years old. All of these effects were 100% REAL objects, energy, etc. NO CGI at all. I have a MAC PRO now, yet unused as I need to buy software.
So What I want to know [and can't find yet on my own], Does Motion 5 perform these same kind of 3D Motion Effects OR Does the New $299 dollar Final Cut Pro does these same kinds of motions, that I demonstrated in my youtube??  I'd like to know of someone else's youtubes that shows motion anywhere close to the complexity of some of my shots. A few were 100 layer composites. Thanks much.
Below I checked an operating system, just guessing. I don't think that matters to my question.

    Hi,
You can't do the masking that you'd require to achieve these effects in FCPX alone. You can buy plugins that will help. look for SliceX and TrackX which are excellent.
Motion does allow you to mask very complex objects and scenes though so this might be your first step. Altough Motion can animate objects in 3D space, it does not deal with 3D objects, merely 2D planes in 3D space. You can import 3D objects and animate them with hep though, look for the excellent mObject from motionVFX, still in its infancy but already very usefull.

  • Cannot author with 24p assets from TMPGEnc Xpress 4

I'm working on a project that involves the creation of 5 exercise-type DVDs. Each DVD contains from 2 to 5 programs (29.97), a copy warning, series intro (the same is used on each DVD), a single motion menu, and an extra feature (23.976). It's the extra feature that's giving me fits...
As there is a great deal of content on each DVD (two of them are 3+ hours), I'm having to use 2-pass VBR encoding, and some relatively low bitrates. Where I thought I could save a little space is on the extra feature, which is a 15 minute interview that will be included on each disc. The interview was shot in 24p anamorphic DV, and edited as such. I've not been happy with the quality of the encode from AME--used 2-pass VBR at about 3Mbps target--so I picked up TMPGEnc Xpress 4, and encoded using that. Ahh... much better. So far, so good.
The problem comes during authoring. I import all my assets, set up my menus and timelines, go about linking and checking end jumps, and everything is fine on preview. I begin the authoring process, and all is well and good until the very end, when the authoring fails and I get a generic "File is not valid MPEG". Some sleuthing has helped me determine that it is, indeed, the 24p file from TMPGenc.
I found that if I burn the 24p file to a disc without menus and set it to autoplay, it plays fine. However, when I link to the file from a menu, I get the error during authoring. The VIDEO_TS folder structure is built (I've just been testing to the hard drive), but once that track is hit, everything comes screeching to a halt.
Now, a little more info: I've compared the file structure of the M2V produced by AME, and the one produced by TMPGEnc--and there are some differences. Most notably, the AME version's N frame value is 12, whereas the TX4 version's N frame value is 13 (!?!). Something definitely doesn't seem right, here. Also, I've tested TX4 with CBR single-pass and ended up with the same error in Encore. And another thing: the main programs mentioned above were encoded using TX4, CBR single-pass (this is the smallest disc, and I could get away with CBR), and those files author perfectly fine.
Has anyone been able to successfully encode and author with a TMPGEnc'ed 24p MPEG-2 file? Or should I just give up and accept lower quality output from AME? I welcome your advice.

Hey Jeff--thanks for the reply. Here's your answers:
    1) Yes, they all import as "Don't Transcode". The files are untouched by Encore, all the way through the Build process.
    2) I tried both linking in the original project (with all the other assets), and in a new project that contained only the 24p file. I built a quick menu, linked to the 24p timeline, and hit Build... kablooie. Build failed, once again giving me the faulty MPEG error.
    3) I checked all the files I've created in GSpot, and they all report the same information as you've described above. It's the GOP information that leaves me scratching my head. Observe:
    AME CBR 1-pass
    AME VBR 2-pass
    TX4 CBR 1-pass
    TX4 VBR 2-pass
AME produces results that I would expect--TX4 has those weird N values of 13 and 14.
    4) My source footage is indeed NTSC DV, and is going to an NTSC DVD. What I had found in my earlier research (the source eludes me at the moment) was that for a true 24p MPEG-2 file, with pulldown flags inserted, is that the N value should be 12. The rationale was that you want 2 GOPS per second (24 fps / 2 GOPs per sec = 12). I'll have to find that article/site where I found that information--it made sense to me at the time. I do know that both the AME encoded files work perfectly with this value--the N values in the TX4 files (13 and 14) are not controllable when you use the DVD-Video preset. You can change to an MPEG-2 preset where you can change the GOP, but I haven't done this... although I'm considering trying that next.
Thanks for any insight you can provide!

  • Help with 24p capture/sequence settings and interlace artifacts

We are trying to capture sd video shot on a panasonic DVX 100B at 24p (not advanced) using FCP 6.02.
The video was shot anamorphic (squeeze) through the camera.
We have tried a variety of capture and sequence setting and continue to get varying degrees of artifact (lines) at motion points (e.g. when a hand moves).
    We have tried:
    Capture Easy set-up 29.97
    Capture Anamorphic 29.97
We have tried changing field dominance to none.
We have experimented with both interlace and progressive scan.
We have experimented with different playback units including the camera shot with.
Would love some advice on best capture sequence settings. Playback will be computer/video projector.

It's sounds like you've been mislead about what 24p (as opposed to 24p Advanced) actually is on tape - it's interlaced 29.97 footage. So, what you're seeing is normal - there should be three progressive frames followed by 2 interlaced frames (since it's pulldown added to 23.98 material).
So, to get to the heart of your question, you are capturing correctly - Anamorphic 29.97.
If you want true progressive output, strip the pulldown - use Cinema Tools - and edit as 23.98. Otherwise, if you can't go 23.98, you're stuck with what you've got.

  • In ppro 6.5 had the ability to set motion with free form using the handles can't see where in ppro cc it can be done

In Adobe 6.5 I was able to use freeform motion path with distortion of the graphic to fly in the graphic can't see how to do that in Adobe cc premiere Pro CC I called up support and they said it's been transferred to after effects is that true?

PPro. 6.5 or the good old Premiere 6.5 The Premiere 6.5  simple motion has been updated in the programs monitor and has more options  and styles now. You can also use the Effects control and use keyframes. One can also use various effects like perspective and more. It is all about your creativity. So the 6.5 motion is in the programs monitor.
Double click on the video in the program window and you will see the handles. I prefer playing with figures in the motion control window with the x, y, z axis. One can even do 3d motion in that window

  • NI-Motion with Labview 5.0.1

    Hi,
I'm trying to setup my pci-flexmotion-6c board under Labview 5.0.1 on a
Windows 98 box. When I go to the recommended drivers page on NI.com it
directs me to the NI-Motion 5.0.1 driver. When I try to install the
software on my system, it only seems to provide drivers for Labview
    5.1, not Labview 5.0. Help!
    Rich_N

    Hello Rich,
You are correct that Motion 5.0.1
installs with 5.1 or 6.x.  This is
because this version of our motion driver was released around the same time as
LabVIEW 6.1; therefore it provides support for the three most current versions
at that time.  To use this hardware, you
would need to use one of these three versions of LabVIEW.  We do offer comparable current versions of
software and hardware particularly the 734x series controllers which can be
found at Motion Hardware.  If you would like to continue using LabVIEW
5.0 you could either look into using our older ValueMotion drivers or create a
function library that you can call.   Also in order to prevent future complications,
I would like to inform you that the pci-flexmotion-6c board is not compatible with
    NI-Motion 5.2 driver and later.  I hope
this answers your question.  Please let
us know if you would like further clarification or assistance.Regards,

Try Frame Blending and also try different percentages... example...35%, 45%, 50%
Depending on what shutter speed you were shooting can make a difference.
For best 50% slow motion you can shoot with a Shutter of 120.  (If working with 60i)

HDV, because of its highly compressed nature fits into the same bandwidth as DV, so no... FW400 is not a bottle neck for it...
