Motu pci-424 noise attacks

i've been using the motu pci-424 (before that the 324) in my mac dual G5. generally works fine but every now and then i get a horrible noise, kind of like massive distorted white noise. it seems to have to do with the cable connection (firewire) from the pci-card to the interface (in this case a 1224).
i have had this problem in the past to but was able to live with it as it didn't occur that often. i have tried different firewire cables, have whittled away a few mili-meters of the plastic coating to allow the connector to sit tighter but to no avail.
is anyone else having these problems? any solutions?
best, sharkboy

This is Logic forum...
I don't use PCI-424....
anyway...
seems to be a 424 malfunction...
try to unisnstall the driver and disconnect your card from PCI slot!
trush preference, repair permission...
reconnect and reinstall...

  • Logic 9.1.5 and Motu PCI 424

I have a problem whit logic pro 9.1.5 and my Motu PCI 424- HD192 and 24IO... the problem is these: arbitrary I have a loss of output or imput channel only in logic, these channel works with iTunes for example but not in Logic, for example now when Im writing I can listen music from the chanel 1-2 in iTunes but the track in logic with assigned 1-2 have no out if I give 3-4 it works, for me is a problem because Im a professional user I have a studio and I mix in analog and I need all the out of both interface, what I can do? the driver is the last from motu and the problem is started whit Logic Pro 9.1.5 I think is a bug! A BIG BUG fro pro user!!! now I have Lion but the problem is present the same whit S.Leop.

I was joking... sorry for my english
anyway: I'm running a top of the line Imac, Mac Os 10.7.1 (that came preinstalled) and Logic 9.15. a full Apple rig... It's not unrealistic to expect a normal performance. IMO it's a little sub-par.
Regarding Logic, the last thing I want is they make things "simpler"... It ussually means less options. If I'd want a simpler interface and less options I'd go with protools in a breeze as it's the de facto standard and it's a lot simpler.  If somebody wants even simpler things Garage Band is the way to go...not Logic.  Why people don't ask for a more complex GB instead of a simpler Logic?. The program has TONS of places to improve: PDC is a mess, there are LOTS of bugs, and I can think not less than 20 real improvements. None of them makes things simpler. IMHO it has to be professional, not "simpler". Playing piano is very simple, but it takes time and effort to master it.  I don't agree with this childist society thinking that everything has to be so simple that any ignorant can drive it. This is a professional tool for professionals, or it should be.
That said, I also like the new features in Lion. Problem is: I use my machine for work not for some eye candy. If that were the case I'd buy an Ipad.

when making changes to the I/O buffer size( motu-pci 424) it takes an abnormal length of time for the changes to take affect any ideas?

A fully loaded one( keep in mind I have had fully loaded projects in the past, and it did not take this long) this was noticed after installing LP8, also major latencey even at 64 buffer size

  • Motu PCIe 424, Mac volume control gone.

well, since I installed the pci 424 and the 24 I/O I can´t control system volume and mac output anymore. cuemix diesn´t show the mac input, and in the mac system everything is grayed out.
    anybody solved that before?

Is there anyone with a Mac Pro, NVIDIA GeForce 7300, MOTU PCIe-424 and no problems?
    Thanks...

  • Motu PCI-424 / Tiger question

    Hi everyone,
I am experiencing a weird problem that I am trying to solve. I use Motu hardware 2408mk3 audio interface and PCI-424 card. With Logic it works completely fine. The problem occurs when using any other software like SKYPE or Audio Hijack. Although I can select the PCI -424 audio card as in and ouput no audio signal is present. However, on the level meters of the interface as well as the Motu Cue Mix software Í can clearyl see that the audio I am trying to put through (for example from a microphone) is present.
I checked the Apple Audio Midi Setup to see if this might help and discovered that when selecting the PCI-424 card as input and output the settings for it are all greyed out so I can't adjust them. Could this mean that the core audio might be corrupted or how could I solve this ?
I've already tried to re-intall the MOTU drivers,, but still in Apple's Audio Midi Setup I can't adjust anything really except for choosing the Motu hardware. Help is needed ! Thanks !!!

You want both input and output through the MOTU interface, right?
Try to set I/O into OS X Sound preferences.
    cheers

  • MOTU PCIe-424/2408mk2 and Logic 7.2.3

    Greetings All,
I've got a MacPro tower currently using an M-AUDIO Firewire 410. I've got a MOTU 2408mk2 with the original PCI-324. I'm thinking about doing the Upgrade to the 424PCI-e card but have a few questions.
    1. What kind of Latency do you get with the PCI-e424.
    2. Is it stable?, now that M-AUDIO updated the drive the unit works pretty well, but I miss the ADAT ability of the 2408mk2. Also stumbled across a post pointing to an operation that can upgrade the internals of the MOTU unit, so that's another possible reason to upgrade. So, if you upgraded to you fell it was worth the $300 bucks?
    Thanks
    Mark L

    Hi Mark,
I have the PCI-e424 and the original 2408. In my system, latency is 28 samples, and that represents the round-trip of an audio signal out of Logic, into my Mackie D8B board via lightpipe from the 2408, out of the D8B via lightpipe back into the 2408 and into Logic. Twenty eight samples. Not bad!!!
Now, on this forum of late there's been extended discussion of how FW-based interfaces will exhibit a random amount of latency each time the computer is booted. That's kind of a nightmare that you won't have to deal with if you get the PCI card and use the MOTU system.
Also, unlike the other nightmare I see people reporting using various FW interfaces, i.e., sync problems, you will rarely if ever experience that with the PCI-based system.

  • Mac pro and motu PCIe audio card with a 2408mkIII

    mac pro and motu PCIe
i recently upgraded to the mac pro from a G5 and now my motu 2408 mkIII sound card does not work.
i installed the motu PCIe 424 pci card from motu and installed the latest UB drivers, followed the instructions to the letter, repeated numerous times in every pci e slot with only temporary luck. it worked briefly and then when the computer slept i lost the connection with the interface and have not been able to regain it.. yes i re-installed to the letter again. the pcie card is seen by the computer but it cannot seen the external rack mounted 2408 via the audiowire that connects it. yes i tried other cables. the unit worked fine on my G5.
i have heard of others with the same problem after updating the firmware to SMC 1.7. my mac pro came with the latest firmware.

To my surprise I had five software updates waiting for me. Among them Pro App update, two of them, and this SMC update. After I updated my MOTU PCI-424 audio interface no longer works. Tried installing MOTU drivers again, still nothing. It can't communicate with its audio interfaces. So right now, this amazing update from Apple stopped me from working, and I am on a pretty tight deadline. I hope I'll find a solution ASAP

  • Anybody using MOTU PCI 424e card for 2408 with new MacPro Cylinder?

I upgraded my older Mac PRO tower which accepted multiple PCI 424e cards for the new Mac Pro cylinder.  I purchased from Magma their Express card cage with Thunderbold output in anticipation.  Computer arrived and I removed the card and inserted into the card cage,  directed audio to the card but no go.  iTunes, for example freezes when the card is selected.  My MOTU Digital Performer also does not allow Analog in or out with the card.
I have contacted MOTU,  they do not have a solution.  Magma,  the card cage manufacturer has not come back with a solution.  Apple suggested visiting these forums for possible ideas.
My studio is dead in the water until I solve this OR I need to go back to the slower old MacPro.
    Thanks in advance.

Did you install the FCS suite onto the new computer by using the original disks?
You should. Don't forget to run all updates, repair permissions and restart.
Or did you migrate the applications from the older Mac? You should not do this.

  • NX6800-TD256E PCI Express - NOISE, NO ULTRA COPPER, very high FAN SPEED

Well I also have bought a NX6800-TD256E PCI Express.
The card was advertised at MSI.COM.TW with ULTRA COPPER and adjustable Fan Speed.
One week ago on the website of MSI the card had Ultra Copper. Now, not any more.  :hypecrite:
When I bought this card 4 weeks ago:
    1. the website information about this card was with UltraCopper
    2. the website of the dealer was with UltraCopper
    3. the packing is with ultra hopper
    4. now I can not adjust the fan speed
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/vga/vga/pro_vga_detail.php?UID=639
Even the packing shows ULTRA COPPER.
Nothing true, and this for EURO 365.00. Shortly in my mind this is unfair competition. There is a law in Europe: "law against unfair competition".  Maybe not in the US and TW.
Who else does have the same trouble ?
Is there a solution with MSI ?

  • L8+PCI Audio Interface

The hardware requirements for L8 call for PCI Express, Express Card/34, USB or firewire audio interface.
Is there a problem running the older MOTU PCI 424 sound card with an HD 192 interface
    on a 1.25 G4?
I sure don't want to install L8 and then find out my audio hardware doesn't work with it.

    tell your exact BIOS version
have you tried with mainboard out of PC case?
have you done >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed?

  • PCIe audio card recommendations?

    Hi all,
I've got a MacPro with Logic Studio. I'm looking to upgrade my audio from my current Tascam FireOne 2x2 to something with about 4-6 inputs. I'm looking at PCIe cards to reduce latency.
What do you guys recommend? I'm hoping to spend less than $500 or so for this. Is there anything out there that will work nicely?
    Thanks in advance!

  • I need to do a "clean install" How do I retain my passwords, etc?

I intend to purchase a new hard drive and do a clean install of OSX 10.4, but I shudder to think that I won't be able to restore all of my passwords, iChat stuff, e-mails address books, etc.
Is there a method? I have used 'carbon copy cloner" in the past to duplicate my current system on a new drive, but now I need to start from scratch, as I was informed that some of my system problems are due to updating from earlier OSX versions....
    Any advice?

So much for that.... here is the synposis:
I am a professional mixer. I have a private high end mix room in Manhattan.
I use Apple Logic pro running on a G5 dual 2Ghz tower as my main transport and have several racks which contain all of my outboard signal processing (nearly 60 channels of outboard compression EQ and other processors).
I rely on the MOTU PCI-424 and 2 HD192 and one 1296 interfaces as my patchbay for this gear. Insert latency is compensated by a plugin I invented called "latency fixer" which was implemented by the UK based 'OS collective" and is available as freeware.
I have a separate, internal 10,000rpm hard drive which stores only the audio tracks for the current mix project. I also have a UAD-1 card which I use very sparingly, usually only one active plugin. I always use the largest possible Core Audio buffer setting (1024samples) and the Uad-1 driver apparently doubles that figure.
Recently I added a Duende to the system. Initially I had very dubious luck getting audio through this device without dropouts and random temporal anomolies, i.e. If I inserted the Duende on a few of the drum tracks, these tracks would randomly shift in time by several hundred milliseconds. Not good. I became aware that OS X had serious problems with random latency when using aggregate audio drivers, and upon further investigation learned that there was an identical problem when using a firewire based audio interface. According to reports online, Apple ignored this issue for more than 2 years, but when Apogee released it's "Ensemble" firewire interface, the iShit hit the iFan, so to speak. They quickly addressed this problem by rewriting the kernel level firewire driver.
This new driver was sent to me and I installed it on my 10.4.5 OS. This fixed the random latency issue in my aggregate interface driver, and seemed to improve the performance of the Duende as well. Recently I have again been experiencing the random time shifts when using the Duende.
It's a professional embarrassment in my system. I find myself spending 4 hours on a mix and 6 hours troubleshooting the system in order to print the mix without spurious noises.
I was advised by apple that a clean install of OSX would improve the situation. I did a clean install of OS 10.4.8 and the problems with the Duende are actually worse than they were under 10.4.5.
I would appreciate any thoughtful advice about how to remedy this problem.

  • G5 crashing 10.5.8 and other issues

I have been using my dual G5 2.7 with Leopard 10.5.8 flawlessly, never had a crash, it was always rock solid. I have primarily used it with Logic 9. A couple of weeks ago, I needed to use a notation program and I loaded Sibelius. It worked fine until I was really pushing it by loading a lot of Kontakt 2 instances for playback. Then my G5 started crashing and getting kernel panic errors. It stopped doing that and the next day started going into sleep mode every few minutes. I read some forums and tweaked the power settings and now it is running normally but having trouble recognizing my aux hard drives. When I ran Disk Warrior, it found my missing hard drives but when I tried to rebuild them, it crashed the G5 again. Here is the problem message and configuration from that crash. Any idea what might be wrong with this old girl? I plan to upgrade to an intel Max soon but don't have the dough to do it right now.

Discouraging. Today it is one crash after another. The temperature monitor says nothing is overheating, but the fans are running constantly on at least medium speed. Full speed when booting up.
I don't have a Firmtek PCI card, but perhaps the previous owner did. I bought this unit used a few years ago. Is there a way to remove unused drivers on a Mac?
I do have a Seritek/ 152 v. 5.1.2,06/15/02, 00:24:30 (ATA PCI card) and a pci137 DSP-PCI-424 B V.1.0 J/J (MOTU PCI 424 card_. I have removed both of them from the machine to see if either of them is the problem. Have unplugged all extra peripherals. So the only think plugged in is a monitor, mouse and 2nd internal drive.
I checked inside for leaks, but it is dry as a bone. I will try downloading ASD 2.5.8 but I will probably have to do it on a different machine and burn a disk. I don't think this one will stay up long enough for the download.

  • Mac Pro runs slow after upgrading to mavericks?

    I can't figure it out..
Been a mac user sinc Macintosh then mac plus.
First time i have no explanation.
I upgraded my 2010 Dual Quad Mac Pro 96gb ram, ran so very very fast with Sonnet 4 port eSATA and MOTU PCIE 424 card.
Ever since i upgraded it is so SLLLLOOOWWW!!. I have tired re-installing, contacted all the hardware vendors and software vendors, got all the updates.
I cant figure out why it is running like a 20 year old computer?. I get the wheel, Finder hangs allot, will not relaunch. I take out ALL THE THIRD PARTY CARDS, and boot, still runs like a turtle. Adobe creative suite slow, Aperature takes hrs to update library. Tried creating a new library. Still slow. Avid Media composer, Final Cut Pro X is so slow at rendering i can drive to Santa Cruz from Santa Barbara to MAvericks surf spot go surfing and come home to find out it is 95% done. Also copying large 20 gig folders from one internal to another takes hrs. used to take minuts.
I need help! It is so unpleasent using my mac pro now, , miserable user experience. I dread booting as it takes 5 min to go. I have dual monitors. Apple NVIDA card. could it be CUDA?  no updates availble. I removed all the third party cards, and nothing happens. Removed all usb, FW, etc pluged in usb mouse from Apple Factory.
What ever happend there must be a patch or fix? all of my friends with Macs all having same slow issue. Please offer some fixes.
    1. Is there a way to __Un-install Mavericks? and return my computer back to previous OS? without ruining or formating HD?
It seems like the only solution. I would Purchase a new MAc Pro, but none of my studio takes thunderbolt, and it is so exspensive i am cornerd. I would be so happy if i could just remove Mavericks, instead of taping aspirine all over my Macs. Please Apple send an update that fixes this. Just google it 100,00's of users? we all love Apple, we need you to help us help you! anyone? please help.
    Please help!!
    Kiind Regards
    B

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them.
Here's a summary of what you need to do: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a couple of minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking  anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter
    exec sh
in the window and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know your password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that takes administrator privileges.
The test may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
    8. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If it happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.
