.mov files rendering

I'm trying to edit some quicktime files (.mov) in FCP 5. I have to keep rendering the entire thing whenever a change is made. Are some of the settings incorrect? I'm sure I shouldn't have to render a clip that has no effects.

I've been editing on Final Cut Pro for a few years. But all the technical stuff was pretty much done for me by someone else. Now I have to learn it all on my own, so lets pretend that I don't know anything.
I pretty much worked out that the mov file has to have the same settings as the sequence. But can I change the sequences settings? If not, is there any way I can change an existing quicktime files settings?

  • Large mov files rendered

My camera produced a 14-second video 1280 x 720 pixels into a 48 MB mov file. Opening that in Photoshop CS6, making no changes, and rendering that in Quicktime with the JPEG 2000 high quality preset, Photoshop produced a 346 MB mov file. Reducing the original video size to 600 x 338 pixels and rendering in Quicktime with the JPEG 2000 medium quality preset, I still got a 67 MB mov file.
Since my goal is to put these online, these large files present a problem. What is causing Photoshop to render such huge files many times the size of the original?

When you choose JPEG 2000 as a video format, every frame is saved as a complete individual still frame. There is no way you will get a small file size that way. (Other video formats save space by saving one frame, then record only the changes in the next several frames before saving another complete frame.) The complete individual frames preserve the most quality if you're going to use the rendered video as part of another production. The other two QuickTime choices, Animation and Uncompressed, also produce large files for the same reason. They're also intended for production, not final output. If you're going to take this video and edit it together with other clips, then JPEG 2000 makes sense but you have to live with the large file size.
If you are rendering this out as a final video and your next step is to upload it online, QuickTime/JPEG 2000 is not the format you want. Change the Format from QuickTime to H.264, which is the far more compact and online-friendly format required by YouTube, Vimeo, etc. for uploading to their sites.

  • IMovie audio issues. Fine in timeline, but when rendering to iTunes or Media Browser, audio from certain portions of movie files are heard in places where it shouldn't be !

iMovie 11  audio issues. Fine in timeline, but when rendering to iTunes or Media Browser, audio from certain portions of movie files are heard in places where it shouldn't be !
I have created a project where I have a montage of photos and video clips edited together with music under. Some audio portions of the video files are being muted in some areas and those portions are being heard in another part of the project. This is not for all video clips only certain ones.
The project plays fine in the timeline, but when I render the project thru iTunes or Media Browser, this is when the project goes corrupt.
I tried detaching the Audio from the video clips and this somewhat worked, but the original problem still exists with certain audio still being heard where it's not supposed to be.

    I have a fix - or rather, a workaround.
WARNING: It is lengthy, but still far better than starting a new project from scratch.
I had this same issue and none of my transitions/clips were at custom speeds, nor did I have anything else weird going on. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do within iMovie to fix this, at least there wasn't for me. iMovie is BY FAR the buggiest software I have ever used and if you haven't already spent hours slaving away on a project, you are so much better off using just about anything else to edit your video.
...But let's assume you have already spent many hours working on your project and you don't want to start all over. Well then, you have at least one option.
It's a pain in the neck, but it's infinitely better than restarting your project from scratch.
    This will require:
A software called Soundflower (which is free) and some kind of audio editing software (I use Logic, but really any should work).
1.) You're going to need to export your video with the messed up audio. Typically if you're audio is messing up, you're video is at least usually working just fine (at least it always does for me).
2.) You're going to need to open that video in your audio software and import only the audio. If your software doesn't give you this option, then you're going to need to record the audio from your video using the audio software and Soundflower. You can find tutorials on how to do this, but it's honestly pretty straightforward once you start playing around with you Mac's audio I/O settings. Remember to have your computer's volume all the way up when doing this.
3.) Watch/listen to your video and make notes of where the audio errors occur. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND writing down times too,  as they will be extremely helpful later.
4.) Now were going to rip some working audio from the iMovie project itself. Go back into your iMovie project and only play back audio while in the edit window for this step. Do NOT play your project back in full screen.
This part is key: if you try to play back your project from the beginning the audio will usually still mess up. So, what you're gonna have to do is go back on your edit window timeline right before these errors occur and play that specific clip back while recording this working audio with Soundflower and your audio software. Essentially we're only recording the parts of the audio where these errors occur, so try to do this in order if you can. Try to leave several seconds of audio in before the error - that way we can use it as reference when we construct our new audio track.
5.) Now in your audio software you should have your original error-filled audio track and the new clips that we just captured. This part can be painstaking if you're not familiar with audio editing softwares, but as you'll learn, it's really not that hard.
You're going to look at your original audio track and compare it to your new working audio clips. You should be able to notice where those new clips are supposed to go by looking at the identical (or close to identical) waveform shapes in your original audio track. The two should correspond with one another. If you don't understand what I mean right now, you will when you start playing around with the audio. This is why marking times is very important.
Take your new clips and split them up if you haven't already, that way you can drag them around and edit them separately from one another. Essentially your going to line these new clips up with original and then replace the original parts with new ones.
We need to get this as precise as possible, so start off by getting them as close as you can with your naked eye, and then use a zoom tool to zoom in as much as possible so that you can get them lined up PERFECTLY, or at least extremely close. In some softwares you can just drag these new clips on top of the old track, but most of the time you will need to actually cut out the old piece and replace it with the new one. In doing this, zoom in and make sure that you are NOT cutting out a bigger space than your new clip will fill - otherwise you will have small gaps in your audio.
VERY IMPORTANT: Also make sure that this new audio track starts at the EXACT SAME time as your original - otherwise your new audio will be out of sync.
I know this part can really suck if you're not used to audio editing, but at this point, there is little other choice.
6.) Once you are done with this, export your newly pieced together audio track.
7.) Now open iMovie and create a NEW project. Re-import the video that you exported earlier that has the messed up audio. This might take a while, so just be patient.
8.) Then right click the clip and select "Detach Audio". This will do just that - allowing you to edit the audio separately from the video. Now delete this audio.
9.) Now, import the new, perfect audio track that we just made and make sure that it starts at the start of the project. Make sure it's in sync and that everything works.
Now just export your new video with the working audio and you should be done. Since we have given iMovie the audio with no editing actually being done in iMovie, it does not have to generate its own audio now and you should have absolutely no errors now - unless there is some that you forgot to take out earlier.
    YOU'RE FINALLY DONE!!!
I know this entire process *****, but if you're that far into your project, there is little else that you can do. Now you've learned your lesson:
    DON'T USE IMOVIE EVER AGAIN.
    I hope this helped!

  • Is there any easier way to edit imovie files that have been exported as mov file then added to FCE 4?? As every move I make has to be rendered and takes forever??? Also my recording is going out of focus without me touching the camera, why has this happen

Is there any easier way to edit imovie files that have been exported as mov file then added to FCE 4?? As every move I make has to be rendered and takes forever??? Also my recording is going out of focus without me touching the camera, why has this happened any idea what causes this??
    iMovie '08, Mac OS X (10.5.8), FCE 4

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • Why can't I File-export-render video into a mpeg 4 rendering into a small .mov file format in cs6?

I create short videos using the PS frame animation panel. I used to be able to FILE-export-render video- and choose MPEG-4 Video in the settings panel which would render my file into a small .mov file. Now in CS6 the new render video panel does not have that option. I tried the QT options in the export window and my file is hugh! The H.264 option gives me an .mp4. I put the .mp4 into my web page via Dreamweaver and my video does not play when uploaded into the sever. The video plays fine in Dreamweaver before I upload to the server. After I upload to the server I just get a Q and no video on my web page.  If I render the same file in CS5 I am able to view it in my web page. • Mov files dont play smoothly even after rendering work area

HI, I have adobe premiere elements 8 and i have some mov files that were recorded on a canon camera and are around 4 gb per 12 minutes of footage.  Ive exported them into premiere to edit and to export out.
I have rendered the work area of an 1 hour of footage in total which took 6 hours and then crashed.  It is blurry and and jittery and so i can't edit the footage.  I tried to export it and as h264 and reduced the bite rate to 7 and it hadn't even got to 1 percentage after 2 hours.  I'm really not sure how to edit this or export it without loosing quality. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    thanks

When you create a new project and import the video, does it have a red line over the timeline?
If yes, your project and video do not match... and it MAY be that whatever is inside that MOV wrapper is not really compatible with version 8

  • AE CS5 only see black when playing a rendered mov file in QT

AE CS5 Mac 10.6:  After rendering a movie as Render:Best Settings / Output:Lossless I get an mov file (quite large, 193MB) - awesome thats what needs to happen.  Now upon viewing that mov file within QT, I get the timer (8 seconds) and the playhead scrolls those 8 seconds, yet I see nothing - only darkness and utter black.  Now on the flip:  when I render this same file as Best Settings / H.264 and play the mp4 wha lah you get a smooth playing video.  Downside, this file needs to be uncompressed and at the highest quality and playable in QT (a mov).  Is the file too large for my machine to handle playing?  Is this another QT vs AE bug?  Anyone please, input is as alway greatly appreciated.  Oh, 1 more piece of the puzzle: Pixel Aspect Ratio: D1/DV NTSC Widesceen (1.21).  This is a file to be played on an LED arena ribbon...
    Thanks

    >  Is there a codec missing from my AE?
That wouldn't cause the file to play fine in some places and not elsewhere.
This is a gigantic file in terms of horizontal pixel dimensions, and the data rate is quite large, too (nearly 200MB for only 8 seconds). I suspect some combination of QuickTime Player and the computer on which you're trying to play it (e.g., slow hard disks).
Does it really matter whether this can play in QuickTime Player? We've seen that it plays in post-production software. Has the client tried playing it in the way that it will actually be played/used---i.e., on the LED screen at the arena?
And, again, are you and they really sure that this huge losslessly compressed format is what is required? As I said before, this is very much not the kind of format that is intended for playback and distribution. Uncompressed files and files compressed with Animation are intended for purposes like use as intermediate files in post-production, not playback.

  • I am having problems using mov files imported into a project. I get the message "Not rendered" in the Canvas and clip won't play. Can anyone help?

I am having problems using mov files imported into a project. I get the message "Not rendered" in the Canvas and clip won't play. Can anyone help?

When clips won't play without rendering in the Timeline, it usually means that the clip's specs don't match the Sequence settings.
A .mov file could be made from any number of codecs; the QuickTime Movie designation is merely a container for video files of all kinds.  Since FCE only works with the QuickTime DV codec and the Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) natively, if your mov files aren't one of those two, you need to convert them PRIOR to importing into your FCE project.

  • Rendered movies won't play "...is not a movie file"

    Hi -
The files I rendered can't be opened in Quicktime because "it is not a movie file".   I rendered an MPEG4, H264 and Quicktime with No compression.  None of them would play.
    What causes this?
    How can I fix it?

  • [AE CS5.5] Rendering error only .mov file

    Good evening

Well, when the effect of rendering a mov file, indicating the path of "C" or "D" I have no problem, the rendering is completed.
However, if I point a path like "F" or un'HDD external I get the following error
I do not understand why some discrimination HDD, is truly a mystery.
    Any idea?
    THANKS

I apologize for the lack of information.
the internal hard drive is formatted in NTFS, then I tried a hard disk external 2.5 "formatted in exFAT.

    RAM: 8 GB

  • FCPX renders .mov files to AppleProRes to create multicam clip

I use two .mov files to create multicam  clip. During this operation FCPX renders these .mov files and create Apple PreRes files that are10x larger.
Question: Can I create multicam clip without re-rendering? I understand that it is easier to edit using these large files, but I can edit single clip using original .mov file, so, it is not mandatory.

It optimizes the files. Switch this function off in Playback preferences.

  • Rendering mov files! Help!

I have tried EVERYTHING to fix this problem but don't know what else to do.
I have a bunch of mov files that I would like to edit on FCP but whenever I put them into the timelines they require rendering (before I even edit them!) And rendering each file is not an option because I have 100s of files and they each take about 30 minutes to render.
Why is FCP not letting me watch any of the files before they are rendered?
I also made sure the sequence is on the same settings and the clips but that didn't seem to fix anything.
    any help will be appreciated.

So I was trying this for MONTHS and couldn't get the clips to work properly. Right after I posted the message I decided to try one more time...and it worked! I changed the setting of the timeline and this time when I put my clip in the timeline I didn't have to render it and was able to edit some clips I've been trying to edit since December!
    Thanks guys

  • HD movie files need constant RENDERING in FCP 24p HD 1440 x 1080 sequence.

    Hi,
I have been editing a feature film which which uses a FCP 24p HD 1440 x 1080 timeline (sequence, or many different sequences actually). The movie was filmed exclusively on a Canon HV40 camera using, of course, 24p HD footage, widescreen. However, I am now adding footage shot on a small Canon Powershot digital camera which also can shoot decent HD video (.mov files likewise, but not in 24p). When I put this HD video into my timeline, a red render bar appears above the footage, and apparently I have to render the footage before being able to view any of it in "Safe RT" mode. When in "Unlimited RT" mode, an orange bar appears above the footage, and it "plays", but the footage plays very unsteady, stopping and starting, making it nearly impossible to edit fast & intuitively because the eyes/mind don't see the full clips in all their natural wonder/splendor. One just sees images that skip and fumble by, along with their sounds, and it's somewhat headache-inducing. Is there any cure for this? I have lots & lots of Powershot footage to edit into this film, but at this rate it will really slow down the natural flow of editing if i can see the footage as nature or god or Buddha or humans intended it to be viewed.'
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Marc

    David,
It might seem simple and obvious from your end, but these issues are pretty spanking new to me - despite editing for years in FCP they've just never come up. I'm a simple aim & shoot, edit & print sorta guy. So, I don't know, for instance, how to convert the 940 footage to to my Canon HV40 footage. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I did run a sample of mixed clips through through compressor, and there does seem to be some degrading of quality on the 940 footage, tho' I'll accept/use it like that if I have to. Luckily all the 940 footage appears in the film as flashbacks of sort from the main character, so the degrading element of the 940 footage might have a redeeming stylistic affect - MAYBE. But I'd rather keep it as pure of footage as I possibly can muster.
    Thanks much,
    Marc

  • How to create a movie file of java 3D animation without altering the code?

Is there a way to create a movie file of a Java 3D animation without altering the source code of the Java 3D animation program???
Because as what I observed, most of the forum recommends extracting the bufferedimages of the animation. And, then using the bufferedimages to do a movie file. In this way, I will need to add in new code in the animation program in order to extract the bufferedimages.
So, is there an alternative way?
My objective is write a program to create movie file of any Java 3D animation.
Pls advise me. Thanks a million.

I'm curious as to why FRAPS will record java3d and
not a java2d app? is there something that Java3d
sets that makes it recognizable by fraps? or?? could
someone or messengers ( =D!) explain this for me?Seems that only in JDK 5.0 or later, does the 2D api automatically use a DirectX or OpenGL rendering pipeline (if available).
Further, these automatic pipelines accelerate polygons and the like, but not low level Graphics2D bit blitting operations.
There are JOGL apis that allow better control over acceleration, and are considered 'thread safe' (single threaded) whereas DirectX pipelines are not.
    Interesting demos of this here:
    https://jogl-demos.dev.java.net/applettest.html
    and
    http://www.hardcorepawn.com/RandomGL/
Fraps (commercial) and Taksi (opensource) will reveal that you are actually using acceleration, since they intercept the pipeline at the openGL (and DirectX) level.
