Move iPhone from PC to Mac

Hi All,
Just looking for some tips before I make the big move from my virus ridden PC to a MacBook, which I plan to purchase in the next couple of days.
I currently have my iPhone synced with itunes on my PC. I would like to move this to itunes on my mac. Are there any potential problems here that I should be wary of? Is there an easy way to do this? Do i just have to "deauthorise" the PC itunes prior to the move?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the discussions,
Backup your iTunes library and restore it on your Mac: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1382
Authorize your Mac and setup your account in Tunes. Deselect automatic syncing and set up at least one contact and event on your Mac. Connect your phone and backup manually. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Your phone will be wiped during your first sync and restored from the backup you made when you first connected. After restoring your library your media content should be the same as on your PC.

• How do i reconfigure my iphone from windows to mac?

I would like to reformat my iphone from windows to mac without loosing the music on my iphone. Is this possible? Or would I have to factory reset my phone?

There is no reformat necessary as such. An iPhone can only synchronize to a single computer, though, so when you connect your iPhone to the new computer, you'll be told that your iPhone is synched to a different computer and given the choice of erasing the content on the iPhone or transferring iTunes Store purchases to the new iTunes. The best approach is probably to copy the entire contents of the iTunes folder in your Windows system to your Mac. Then your iPhone should still think it's being synched to the same library and be fine. Someone here can point you to instructions on how to move your iTunes library if you need them.

• How do I move apps from an old mac to a new one

I am purchasing a new Macbook Pro after having my old one for six years. I have numerous apps that I have purchased and downloaded over the years. I don't want to loose them and really don't want to have to purchase them again. Can I and how can I move apps from my old Mac to my new one?

Be sure you back your current system up BEFORE you do anything. If you use Time Machine, migration assistant works well.

• I have bought a new Mac Book Pro, and I need to know how I can move Aperture from my old Mac Book to the new one..

I have bought a new Mac Book Pro, and I need to know how I can move Aperture from my old Mac Book to the new one..

It begins with: F-285-NER-151-QBQ-and continues with 5 more 3 or 4 letters/numbers..
Yes, that is the number. And what version of Aperture have you installed? The same version as on your old Mac?
But it don´t work on my new Mac...
In what way does it not work? Does it require you to enter a licence number for Aperture 2 as well? That will be necessary, if your serial number is an upgrade serial number. Then you will have to enter all previous numbers as well.
Or does Aperture not accept the number as correct? Then check the spelling; some letters are easily confused like "I" and "1" and "O" and "0". Do not use the number pad to enter the numbers.

• Transfer iPhone from PC to Mac without losing anything

I know this question has been asked dozens of times, but I just want to get an answer that I know will work for me.
When I got my first iPod I had to set it up on my family's computer as I didn't own a computer. Later on I got an iPhone, and while I had my Mac, I set it up with the family computer to keep my music.
I've been wanting to move my iPhone to my Mac for awhile, but all the guides I've found don't give me all the info I need. I want to keep my iPhone exactly as it is, so that when I connect it with my Mac it acts as if nothing is wrong. I've seen how to consolidate the iTunes library, but I'm confused about App Data. I want to keep all my scores on my games, and I haven't seen a straight answer on whether they will stay.
So is there a way to move my music, apps, photos, texts, data, app locations, play count, notes, contacts, etc. to a new computer? If so is there an online guide that outlines the best way to do this? Is it as easy as following this guide? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
My PC is running XP and my MacBook Pro is running OSX 10.6.8.
Thanks in advance!

• Preferred Method to Move iTunes from PC to Mac

I have read for a few hours and seen several threads about this particular topic, but have also seen several different suggestions. I realize that the best method to move songs from a PC to a new MAC will vary based on other factors (use of an external hard drive, iTunes/music backed-up to CDs, etc.), so I feel that I should present my situation and see what the experts recommend. Here's my current set-up:
1) I have a windows-based PC with 3 user accounts and 3 different iPods with 3 different libraries.
2) I keep the iTunes folder on one drive (C) and all of the music on a second hard drive (L).
3) I intend to buy a new Macbook Pro and want to migrate 1 or more of these PC-based iTunes libraries and corresponding music files to the new Mac.
4) I have iTunes 7 and have recently backed-up each of my iTunes libraries onto CDs (just being a little cautious).
5) I also have a USB external drive with all of my iTunes info and songs.
6) I have two 20gb 4G iPods models and one very new 8gb Nano. I intend to upgrade my two 4G iPods to new classics or new Nanos soon, too.
7) I don't have migrate all 3 libraries to the new Mac, but would likely want to move two.
From what I have read, I could use the CD back-up's, the iPod itself (after consolidating libraries), the external hard-drive, or a 3rd party software.
My confusion stems from the fact that I have multiple PC-based accounts, iTunes libraries and keep my iTunes folder in one drive and my music in another. So, I am hoping that some guru's here can take my scenario and suggest the most efficient, user-friendly approach for me to migrate my iTunes libraries and songs from the PC to the new Mac.
I'd also want to know if there's anything special I should do given that I want to get two new iPods, too. Thanks!

• Move Playlist from PC to Mac

After moving my library from PC to MAC, is there a way to move my playlists? Latest version of iTunes on both (6.04)
Thanks
Brent

Copy the 'iTunes Music Library.xml' file (in \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\) from your PC to the Mac (put it on the desktop).
In iTunes on the Mac, select 'Import...' from the File menu and navigate to the 'iTunes Music Library.xml' file on the desktop.
Click 'Choose' and after some time your playlists will appear.
Hope this helps.

• Photos on Iphone from PC to Mac- not "iphone photos"

I uploaded all of my pictures to my iphone from my PC under the impression that when I opened itunes on my Mac it would give me the option to upload those pictures to my computer.... Does it only allow you to upload pictures taken from iphone or is there a way I can get all those pictures on to the Mac a different way... I no longer have that PC and will be devastated to lose all those pictures otherwise!

There is no way to do this that Apple supports and if you are able to, photos transferred to the iPhone are optimized for viewing on the iPhone. The original resolution of these photos will be lost, which is why Apple doesn't include the option.

• How to move music from PC to Mac

How to move music from PC to Mac

Network
Flashdrive
DVD
External drive
Email
File transfer site
Take your pick. You have several choices. The easiest, if your computers are networked, would be to drag and drop between the computers. Otherwise copying the files to a thumb drive or DVD then taking the thumb drive or DVD to the other computer is probably easiest. Although you could just upload the files to an online file transer site then download them to the other computer.

• How to move iPhone from one to another Mac?

We have two laptops and one iPhone. My contacts, calendar, bookmarks and notes sync between the two Macs and MobileMe and the iPhone. At present I sync my Photos, Apps and podcasts on my iPhone with my PowerBook, but since we are going on a trip and take along my wife's smaller and lighter MacBook, I'd like to sync from now on to her MacBook.
How can I "migrate" the iPhone to the other computer without loosing my applications etc. and the data on the iPhone?
Your suggestions/pointers/solutions would be highly appreciated. Thanks and cheers, Veit

The iphone will sync with one computer at a time.
When you sync to another, it will erase the current itunes content and pics from the iphone and replace with content from the new computer.
A forum search is an excellent suggestion. This is asked and answered quite often.
You can copy the entire itunes folder from the PB to the macbook. This should make the transition as seamless as possible. However, I believe that you would lose the content that is currently in itunes on the macbook as the new itunes folder would replace the old.

• Taking iPhone from PC to Mac - Camera Roll question!

OK, I have an iPhone 3GS that is sync'd with iTunes on my PC. I have created a new iTunes library on my new Mac and would like to transfer the phone to be synced with this. When I connect the iPhone to the Mac it asks if I would like to "Erase and Sync", which I'm happy to do, I agreed this and it then stated that the phone was registered to another iTunes account and would I be happy to change it to the account on this library (it must be the same iTunes account as I only have one.)
Now I don't mind anything being deleted or restarted, but the only thng I really REALLY dont want to lose is my Camera Roll. Can anyone explain what will happen to this if I go ahead an sync it all to the new Mac?

Set up iTunes on your new Mac. Log into your iTunes account (under the "store" menu).
GO TO THE PREFERENCES AND DISABLE AUTOMATIC SYNCING FOR IPOD'S AND IPHONES!!
While you're in there, select the option to "copy music to my iTunes Library" and "Keep iTunes Library Organized". (or whatever is called, I can't remember and since I'm copying files to mine right now, I can't check the menu)
Copy all your music, movies, apps, podcasts etc. over to the new iTunes on the Mac (you can copy everything to an external drive and then just drop it in the iTunes window where your "music" would normally be displayed. iTunes will copy it all to the proper locations in your new Mac.
Now when you plug in your iPhone it will show up in iTunes and you can right click, control click, double finger tap, whatever you decide to use on your iPhone's icon to access the contextual menu and select Backup. This will start the process of backing up your iPhone on your new computer. After you back it up, you should be able to sync without fear of losing all your texts and such. The only thing I don't know is if you can copy the Library files and such from the PC to the Mac so you can keep your playlists. I'm pretty sure it doesn't go the other way as I just tried to do it migrating my iTunes to a new Windows 7 install. If I remember correctly, iTunes may ask you some questions about adding the iPhone to that iTunes account but I know you will be able to back up before anything gets changed, I just bought a new MacBook Pro and had to go through it myself.
This exact same thing happens when you move from one Mac to another, as I just did, except I can copy my Library files and thus don't lose any playlists either.
Good Luck
