Movie troubles

I am running a very slow ibook, and as such am unable to run windows media player, as it freezes up. does any one know how I would be able to convert ".wmv" movie files to, say ".mov" or ".mpg", as my brother tends to send me humerous videos in that format.

You can try what I do when someone insists on sending me a file in a format that I don't want to mess with, delete it. Then when they ask you what you think of it, tell them the truth because it was in a format I don't want to mess around with I deleted it. They either leave you alone or change the format. Both are vast improvements over jumping through hoops to convert their junk, that they are too lazy to put into a more univeral format.

Aiming and directional movement trouble in 2d game

Im writing my second game now, and am having the same problems as i had on my first game.
When firing a bullet from a weapon i cant make it go in the exact direction i want it to go. On my last game (http://home.online.no/~stefjako) i made the bullet movements manually sort of. Very dirty. But now i use Math.cos and Math.sin to move it:

This works kindof... But in certain angles the bullet will move straight in one direction for a while, and then suddenly start going in an angle. (sorry for the awful explaining)!
How do u guys usually make movements work nice and feel smooth?

More or less like you do.
If I should make a example of why you have to use some sort of float value to hold the position, try making a game where the "game objects" move less than a pixel/frame.
If you use a int value for storing the position this will mean that it won't move at all because it will never move a whole pixel.
Look at this
If your object have a int x and int y holding it's current position.
x + 0.8 = x because 0.8 will be rounded to 0
y + 0.7 = y and the same here
That's what happens when you use only int values, float values is almost nessecary to store the position in games.

Hey guys,
I have many movies mostly downloaded from limewire,
however only half of these appear in my itunes library and it ignores attempts to add them to my library.
I have got Videora Ipod converter to convert the movies to mp4, it converts the movies, however when I try to open them I get a "2010 error, invalid data", the movies play fine in media player etc before they have been converted, and even after conversion I can't add them to the itunes library...
what is going on!?

Importing Captured Movie Troubles

So, I've created a template. I've also created movie files.
My movie needed some edits in terms of copy and pasting some
backgrounds for a few slides to aid in the timing of my ojbects and
presentation. Now that I've imported the movie into the template
the timing of these slides / backgrounds seems incorrect again.
Does this mean, I should simply just do my edits to the timing and
backgrounds once I've imported it?
It seems odd that importing would have any impact, because
the preview of the original movie is fine.

I guess I just don't understand what you are doing. You
created a template ... then created movie files ... what's that
about?? Are you inserting SWF or other animations into a custom
template? That would jive with your comment about "timing", kind
of.
Tell you what: If you would try again to describe what you
are doing and how you are trying to do it, then explain what you
expect to see, and what you are seeing instead of that, I'll bet we
can help. Okay? It's probably a "density" problem at my end, but
I'd love to understand you better, so with your help . . .

Downloading Movie Troubles

Okay I bought Gone In Sixty Seconds. That's not important. What is important is that I downloaded it last sunday. It's 1.62 GIGS. Okay It's still not done it's only at 960 mgs. Like every freakon 5 min. It says "The Network Connection Has Timed Out". (I have the new iTunes.) So I have 2 click on the little cirle sync. Button and it has to start where it left off. I don't really have the time in the day to click on that little sync. button all day 500 times. It is really really really getting annyoning so It would be very nice if someone tells me how to fix that issue. I sent a e-mail to iTunes help but they might not explain it well enough so I would like your help.

Works fine for me. I'm using an 8-yr-old Linksys router on 802.11b, set to a channel that doesn't interfere so much with the neighbors.
If this is a new router, check to see if the manufacturer has any firmware updates.

10.4 to 10.4.11 Combo Update (PPC) Issues - Will Not Sleep, Etc.

I've been running Panther 10.3.9 successfully for a long time. There are a few programs I'd like to use that require Tiger and I realized that Tiger retail disks were getting hard to come by and expensive, so I decided to buy one when I found it for a decent price.
I installed 10.4 (running repair disk and repair permissions prior) and then ran all the possible updates from Software Update. I did not select them all at once, most of them one at a time, while repairing permissions after each of them. Shortly after, things were not right.
The first thing I noticed was that I could not put the computer to sleep with either the Apple > Sleep or through the settings in Energy Saver. Expose was flakey also, it seemed to work intermittently. The eject button on the keyboard also worked intermittently. Then, with Activity monitor I would see the following items not responding: loginwindow, System Preferences and Disk Utility (not necssarily at the same time, but at one time or another.) I suppose there may have been others issues, but these are just some of the things that I noticed.
Startups, restarts and shutdowns took a long time. However, the progress bar on startups after the grey screen visually moved exceptionally fast and seemed odd.
These issues also occurred in Safe Mode.
An archive and install back to 10.4 produces a perfect running system, none of these problems occur.
Since my initial update attempt, I've tried to update with the manually downloaded 10.4.11 Combo Update (PPC) with the exact same results (no sleep, expose issues, not responding issues, slow startups, restarts and shutdowns, etc.)
I've archived and installed and updated four times - only keyboard, mouse, ethernet cable and apple speakers were attached. I'm currently sticking with 10.4 until I can find something I can do to troubleshoot this issue which may allow me to get a problem free update to 10.4.11.
Note that my computer does lose the date and time settings when powered off and today I ordered a new PRAM battery. Could a dead battery be contributing to my issue, even though 10.4 is fine?

So, if old drivers and haxies might exist, how do I go about finding them? The only program that I have that I think may be considered a haxie is DockExtender 3.1.3, http://www.codetek.com/dockextender/ (stills seems to work.) It was in my startup items when I initially performed the combo update. Since then, only iCal related items are in my startup items. Subsequent update attempts have been ran when DockExtender was not active. Also, is it note worthy that I have a non-system icon for my hard drive?
My feeling so far is that it's the HD or RAM, Tiger is twice as hard on & demanding of both.
My hard drive is a Seagate 200 GB (utilizes only 128 GB) Ultra ATA/100 7200 RPM 8 MB Cache installed around March 2006. It still has a 2 year warranty. Are you speculating that it just may not be suited for Tiger?
My memory consists of three strips of Corsair VS256MB133 G that I installed in February 2008 - these came as a warranty replacements due to a bad strip of another part number that they did not stock any more.

In terms of my applications, so far I've updated Firefox (uninstalled some incompatible add-ons and themes.) Identified Font Doctor 5.1.2.9 has likely not being compatible, because it quits when selecting a folder to move troubled fonts to when diagnosing. I questioned Extensis Suitcase 10.2.2, but found out that if I trashed the Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS that the font activation errors were resolved. Safari has crashed on me a few times, but it is still version 2.0. It also crashed in 10.3.9, forcing me to use other browsers. Can I update Safari now? Software Update does not show Safari and I don't know if the combo update is the only was to update it. I'm still investigating other applications compatibility, but the true test won't happen until I run the combo update and am able to run my applications on 10.4.11.
If you had a Firewire Drive to Install to & try, that would be great.
I do have an external firewire drive, but it contains a bootable backup of my 10.3.9 system right now. I'd hate to tamper with it at this time, due to my current situation. I can check on borrowing one if necessary. Would this prove out the question regarding the hard drive and since it would be a clean install = no possible haxies or old drivers lingering around. I also have my old internal hard drive that I could use but, this would be the original from this mac and although it worked fine when I removed it, maybe it would not work well with Tiger.

I am having trouble watching Movies and TV shows on iPad

I have a 16 GB iPad and I am having trouble watching TV shows I have purchased and movies on my iPad. I have deleted every app I can and deleted all my pictures , music , books etc. etc. and I am left with only the iPad apps I cannot delete and I STILL cannot watch the shows that are down loaded in "the cloud" ! Why can't I watch them "in the cloud" where there is tons of memory if I don't have enough memory on iPad? Also, what is the point of 16 GB on iPad if most of it is used for basics and not enough left for me to use ? Please help me as this is frustrating !!! Thanks.

My iDVD does not want to encode when I try to burn 2-part movies or series where I put 2 parts onto the disc. I was told before to use only Verbatim DVD-R, which I now do. Still having trouble.

I was on here 11 months ago with the same encoding problem, where it would get to the encoding part of the burning and would stop, then up would pop up the "Open Finder" box, the one where it says you have put in an empty disc and would you like to eject it, ect.? I was told by the people I was in discussion with that I should change from cheap dvds to Verbatim DVD-R only and I have, and switch from "Magic iDVD" to "Create a New Project" and follow the directions there. I did that and for a while, it worked quite well. Now it doesn't. Once in a while there will be a newer movie that it will work on, but only a single and only a newer one that I have just downloaded. I download a lot of series from TV and used to have no problem. Is there any way to fix the encoding problem? I really need help on this and would really appreciate anyone who could give me assistance. And while I'm asking, are there any free cleaning services? I'm on a fixed income and can't afford to buy a computer cleaning service. I have gone to Disk Utility and gone through that, but that's all I can do.

There can be so many things that lead to this. As You download - then my first thought is
In What Video-Codec ?
There is no standard only out there but zillions of Codecs
iDVD and iMovie are very selective in what they can use - sometimes they try and it looks like they manage - till the final DVD is to be tested in a standard DVD-player and fails.
A. Open Your Movie (to be used) with QuickTime-Player (can handle so many more Codecs)
B. If it play OK here - then Open Inspector [cmd+I] and read:
Video Formatted (Codec) as: nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Frames per second: YY.yy
What does they say ?

When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
• iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
• Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
• Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
• a Codec is used that doesn't work
• problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
• version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
• preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
• other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
• External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
• USB-flash-memories - do not work (usually)
• Net-work connected hard disks - do not work (usually)
• Run a Cleaning-DVD (no liquid - but the kind with brushes) - from time to time - I do
• iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
This You do by
- close iPhoto
- on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
- now select all five options presented
- WAIT a long long time
• free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
• external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
• GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
• Screen must be set to million-colors
• Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
• Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
• Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
• Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
• In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)

Hi All,
Let me tell you how I solved the XDV9 codec trouble on my Windows 7 system. The solution is rather stunning because I am using completely free software. First download the Shark007 codec pack for your system here: http://shark007.net/forum/Thread-Setup-and-usage . Please be aware that the codec pack installer comes with a toolbar install option so make sure you de-select this option during the installation process. After installation check the MOV tab on the "Settings Application" program. Make sure "use LAV's splitter" is selected for MOV Playback.
Now comes the crazy part... To convert the XDV9 MOV video clips just download Windows Essentials Movie Maker for Windows 7. At this moment more info about this program can be found here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/movie-maker-get-started . Again, make sure to set the right settings during installation otherwise you will be installing a lot of possible unwanted crap like Windows Live Mail, Windows Skydrive etc.
Movie Maker has quite good settings for converting (High Definition or custom settings are supported). Select your clip, or select multiple clips to create an unedited full length clip of all your clips, and then select "create movie". I used the "use recomended settings for this project" settings as it matches the source file resolution and frame rates etc. It is quite some work to convert clips like this but its the only free solution I could find so far.

Trouble playing QuickTime movie from Keynote

Keynote '09 5.1.1 (1034), QuickTime Player 10.0 (131)
I've got a Keynote presentation that I'd like to have as a movie so it can be shared. I want to utilize the "manual advance" feature that pauses the video when specified and waits for a click to advance the slideshow. But when I export (Share>Export>Quicktime), I have trouble getting the movie to play right.
Without a playback control panel (doesn't appear--and isn't supposed to I gather), after playing around with the magic mouse and keyboard, here's what I get (I can't find an explanation of keyboard shortcuts):
Just clicking the mouse plays the first slide, then stops the show at the end of that first slide. Clicking again does the same thing. It doesn't advance. The slideshow is designed to go automatically to the next slide and does so in Keynote.
Scrolling up can forward the video to the next slide or more, but then clicking just plays the first slide again and stops. Scrolling down goes backward in the same way.
Scrolling left or right while the video is playing lowers or raises the volume.
Hitting the up arrow key plays it backwards, sound and all. Hitting the down arrow plays it forwards.
Only after playing it (not just scrolling it--playing it) backwards--then forwards--will it advance to the next slide and work as I hoped it would, pausing at the right places where a click is needed to advance the movie. I found this by accident, but it works repeatedly, even after closing out QuickTime and opening the movie again.
Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm new to Keynote and don't use QuickTIme for much other than previewing videos. I'm hoping to share this video with many other people who aren't very computer literate, and making many similar videos. I want the other viewers to be able to play the video and just click once in a while (when the video asks them to.)
I would very much appreciate any help.

Welcome to the discussions, Christopher.
Over in the Keynote discussions we've been going over this for quite awhile. Unfortunately, there's no easy solution to your problem. I've even gone as far as attempting to preload the chapter track thinking that might solve the problem, but it doesn't work.
One thing I don't think I've tried is setting up the first slide to advance "on-click" so that there's no animation before the first transition. The problem, of course, is that there's no "loading" animation to let it know when it's ready to go.
Another thing I haven't tried but that might work is to create the movie so that it doesn't autoplay, and then, using the embed commands, set autoplay to be the full length of the movie (so that it will automatically play, but only after it's completely downloaded). Look here for the autoplay embed commands.

System data is the OS or operating system. That is where the recovery stays separated from the rest of the storage so that it doesn't get corrupted. It is not accessible and non-movable.

Anyway, I have tried deleting the cache, deleting my pics and then re-syncing, etc. and nothing is working This is very frustrating, as I had no problems up until about 2 weeks ago, and now all of a sudden, I have this issue......UGH!
