Moving Averages and drilling

Hey everyone,
I've got the following scenario going on:
A pivot table that has a product hierarchy and quantity sold along with a 5,10 and 20 day moving average. At the base level of the hierarchy (i.e. you haven't drilled into anything yet), the moving averages work correctly.
But once you drill into the different product levels, the moving averages immediately stop making any sense. It's almost as if they are precomputed in some other order and then reorganized into a order that no longer makes mathematical sense.
Does anyone know why this happens?
Can anyone recommend how to get it to function as I would expect it to?
thanks everyone!
-Joe

Serhan,
If you are just aiming to smooth out your signal and reduce noise, than an FIR filter would work fine, but it sounds like you are trying to achieve an exact moving average.  Unfortunately, there are entire textbooks on filter design and getting the filter to accomplish that with great accuracy would be a feat.  It is true that the moving average is a form of the FIR filter.
I had some old code that took the running average of 100 samples in SE, but I'll have to look for it when I get to work tomorrow.  I'll post again when Ifind it.
I don't have any moving average VI's handy, but that would probably be the easiest way to accomplish this. Maybe someone can distribute their VI to Serhan?

  • Moving average and standard price both maintained

    Hi,
I have maintained both moving average price and standard price in material master, price control is V
is there any impact of standard price any where in the system.
    Regards,
    Ali

    Hi,
The system considers only the price maintained in price control V or S.So Which ever price is maintained it will consider only that. As an example if you maintain price control as S and give standard price, So when you do GR against PO with different prices, You can see that system even calculates moving avg price for statistical purpose and same can be seen in material master. For for the transaction purpose only standard price will be considered.

  • Moving average and standard cost

    Hi All,
I purchase raw material and trading item. assuming that my raw material is based on standard cost and trading item based on moving average.
    1) if both item have no more inventory, the difference price between migo and miro will charge to price difference?
    2) if raw material which base on standard cost still have inventory, may i know if there is a variance for migo and miro, the difference will go to where? if inventorise then what would happen to the standard cost.
    3) if trading item which base on moving average still have inventory, the variance (between migo and miro) will be added to moving average. right?
    4) for raw material which base on standard cost, may i know if freight cost, custom duty and some other miscellaneous cost need to add in, how possible it can add to the standard cost?
    5) for trading item which base on moving average, may i know if freight cost, custom duty and some other miscellaneous cost also will be added in moving average price?
    thanks

    Hi,
    1) if both item have no more inventory, the difference price between migo and miro will charge to price difference?
Yes, this is correct as per Accounting Standards
    2) if raw material which base on standard cost still have inventory, may i know if there is a variance for migo and miro, the difference will go to where? if inventorise then what would happen to the standard cost.
Any difference between the Standard Price in Material Master and Purchase Value (PO Price) will debit or credit the Price Difference A/c no matter whether stock exits or not.
If Material Standard Price = 100 INR
And PO Price is = 120 INR
    During MIGO;
    Stock Account - Dr - 100 INR
    Price Difference A/c - Dr - 20 INR
    GR/IR Clearing A/c - Cr - 120 INR
    3) if trading item which base on moving average still have inventory, the variance (between migo and miro) will be added to moving average. right?
Yes, it will debit or credit Stock Account and will update MAP of Material accordingly if enough Stock coverage is there.
    4) for raw material which base on standard cost, may i know if freight cost, custom duty and some other miscellaneous cost need to add in, how possible it can add to the standard cost?
    No, all will get posted to Price Difference Account as following;
If Material Standard Price = 100 INR
And PO Price is = 120 INR and Freight = 10 INR
    During MIGO;
    Stock Account - Dr - 100 INR
    Price Difference A/c - Dr - 20 INR
    GR/IR Clearing A/c - Cr - 120 INR
    Price Difference A/c - Dr - 10 INR
    Freight Clearing A/c - Cr - 10 INR
    5) for trading item which base on moving average, may i know if freight cost, custom duty and some other miscellaneous cost also will be added in moving average price?
Yes, it will get added to stock and will update MAP accordingly if enough Stock coverage is there.

  • Show both Moving Average and Standard Price of an item in Report Composer

    Hello
I do follow all my items at standard price. But i wish to get on the same report both the standard price and the moving average price.
How can i do so :
    1 - either by a default report
2 - Or by using report composer
    3 - By using a SQL Query
    Thanks
    Stéphane

Thanks but is there a way to get both data on the same report ?
The solution you gave me allows me only to output two different reports....I don't mind working with a vlookup from time to time but on a daily basis, this is a bit laborious
    Thanks for your continuous support

  • PROBLEM WITH MOVING AVERAGE PRICE

    Hi,
Correct me if I’m wrong, but from what I know the moving average price should only change or be recalculated when purchases or goods_recipts are made, otherwise items should be consumed at a FIXED moving average price (cost).
I´ve noticed when looking into the Inventory Audit Report that the moving average price is changing in my installations and I see that SAP BO recalculates it every time an issue is made. This last thing only happens when the total amount of the transaction is rounded or left with 0 decimals and the other types such as prices, rates, quantities, percent, etc. are left with 2 or 3 decimals.
Because of my country settings, the total amount has to have 0 decimals (I live in Chile and we don’t have cents in our currency) and the moving average price of an Item should not change when an issue is made, can you help me with this?
Thanks and best regards to you all.
    Fernando

    Hi Nagesh,
Thank you for your quick response.
I understand what you say, but moving average price should not change when an issue is made and that´s what is bothering us.
The difference between what it shoud be and what SAP BO is calculating is our concern, ie: let´s say the number of transactions is 100, would that difference be negligible?
    Here is an example:
    Goods issue:
    SO 8     11     -10,49     166,67     -1.748     99,35     16.559
    SO 9     11     -10,49     166,673     -1.748     88,86     14.811
    SO 10     11     -10,49     166,678     -1.748     78,37     13.063
    SO 11     11     -10,48     166,684     -1.747     67,89     11.316
    SO 12     11     -10,56     166,681     -1.760     57,33     9.556
Note that coma (,) is decimal separation and period (.) is the mile separator.
Where the 3rd line is the quantity of the goods issue, the 4th is the moving average, and the 5th is the total quantity of the issue.
So you see 10,49 x 1748 = 1748,39977= 1748(SAP) and then SAP BO recalculates the AVG. Price.
The problem I was talking about was the difference of the stock AVG Price with one hundred transactions or so... now the difference seems negligible (166,7 - 166,681 = 0,011).
Can you see it changes?, is that a bug?
    Thank you
    Fernando

  • Price Variance Moving Average

Can anyone explain to me the purpose of the GL account " Price Variance Moving Average " and how it works.  What transaction triggers it and how it is calculated.
    I am running 2007A with PL38

    Hi
    Price variance account :
Used in purchasing transactions only. For certain scenarios, price differences between the base and target documents are recorded in this account.
Hope this helps to troubleshoot and figure out .

  • Post Processing array for moving average

Greetings. Hope someone out there can help me on this. I have read all the posts I could find about doing a moving average and they all had to do with performing it as the data is being acquired. Unfortunately, I can't do that. I am getting the data from a digital high speed power meter and it is read in from a buffer as a huge string that I then change into an array of data. I need to do a moving average on the data very bad and the indexing is driving me crazy. I can't figure it out. Assume that my data array is 100 elements and I want to do a moving average of 5: 0,1,2,3,4 elements are averaged and become element zero of a new array.... 1,2,3,4,5 are averaged and becomes element 1 of the new array. I would end up with a 1D new
array of 96 elements in the above example. Hope that is clear enough. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give.
    Frank

Solving the problem of reduction in number of points can as I mentioned in an earlier answer be solved in a number of ways...you could pad the end or start with a repetition of the last whole window, or you can make the window gradually grow to its full size. The latter is illustrated in the attached VI...

  • Moving COGS and Moving Inventory

I was giving this calculation and I was asked to design 0IC_C03 cube . I want to make sure that the base key figures are covered by this cube or is there any other cube through which can get this calculation:
12 mths moving COGS Avg / 13 mths moving Inventory avg.
I just want the following key figures moving cogs avg and moving inventory avg. I can create a Calculated KF later on in the queries.

    Amit,
    Thanks for your reply.
The material is costed in CK11N and marked/released through CK24.  Additionally, the moving average and the standard are both properly maintained.
I'm not sure if this error is related specifically to the material.  One on RMA, the material by way of the PGI did not create an accounting document (no account assignment to COGS), however on a different RMA, the same exact material did create an accounting document on the PGI.
I'm not sure of the reason behind the inconsistency.
    Thanks

  • Moving Average Price for Sales stock and Project stock of a material

    Hiya Gurus,
I am developing a report to display inventory details. My requirement is that I have to display the Moving average price of a material for all Valuation type. I also need to display the Moving average price if a material has got Project stock or Sales stock.
In MBEW table I can get the Valuation type and its Moving average price, but how can I find the moving average price for the same material if it has got Sales stock and project stock. Please let me know the table and field where I could get the relevant data.
Kindly help me on this, it would be deeply appreciated.

  • Moving average price and returns to vendor

    Hello gurus,
I’ve got a question concerning material valuation and returns to vendor.
E.g. we have got 200 pieces of a material with a moving average price of 2 $ each.
Now, what happens if I return 100 of those to my vendor who pays 2.10$ each for them?
In my view, there are several possibilities:
    - Nothing happens, the moving average price is not changed at all, value of the goods is 200$ afterwards.
    - New value of the goods is 400$ - (100 * 2.10$) = 190 $. This would mean that the moving average price is 1.90 $.
    - Last delivered price was e.g. 2.20$, more than 100 pieces were delivered, so the new value of the goods is 400$ - (100 * 2.20$) = 180$, new moving average price is 1.80$.
So my question is: What is standard in SAP?
    Thanks
    Jens

This is what my thought is
When you return the material to vendor then system take the same valuation as your MAP
and when you buy new goods then it will count based on the
e.g. existing stock is 100 and value is 1000 means valuation is 10 a peice
in you but another 100 at 1200 then valuation is 2200/200 = 11
When a material is subject to moving average price control, the system calculates values for goods movements in the following way:

  • Standard and Moving average Price

    Hi,
What is the Difference between Standard and Moving Avg Price, What are the Cases will we use Standard  Price ,and what are cases shall we use Mov.avg Price, Please Explain me with Example.

    Hi Lakshmi,
Moving average price is maintained for all the outside procured materials and standard price is maintained for all inhouse manufactured materials...
We need to run standard cost estimate monthly to update the prices of all the materials with price control S... Prices of materials with price control V will get updated as soon as we do GRN for the materials on the weighted average method...

  • Moving average prices and std prices

    hi friends,
i have a doubt abt prices...
which will b assigned for raw materials-standard price? or avg moving price? and why?
if possible explain clearly about avg.moving price and std.price
for spit valuation what price we will use??
    help me out..
    thanks in advance...

Standard price are used for products that do not fluctuated frequently.  It is usually used for finished or semi finished products.
Moving average price are used mainly for raw materials that are purchased externally.  The advantage of using moving average price for your raw materials is that your inventory costs will always reflect the current market cost.
SAP strongly recommends that you do not select price control V for semi-finished products and finished products, because doing so will very easily cause the calculation of unrealistic valuation prices. SAP recommends:
Price control V for raw materials and trading goods; price control S for semi-finished products and products
We recommend that you only use price control V for materials procured
externally. Materials produced in-house should be subject to a
    standard price control.
Generally all raw materials (ROH), spare parts (ERSA), traded goods (HAWA) etc. are assigned as moving average price (MAP)  because of the accounting practice of accurately valuating the inventory of such materials. These materials are subject to the purchase price fluctuations on a regular basis.
The semi-finished goods (HALB) and finished products (FERT) are valuated with standard price because of the product costing angle. If these were to be MAP controlled, then finished/semi-finished product valuation would fluctuate due to data entry errors during backflushing of material and labour, production inefficiencies (higher cost) or efficiencies (lower cost). This is not a standard accounting and costing practice
For Split valuated material it is recommended to use Moving average price

  • Stock of material and moving average price for each valuation type

    Hi
Is anybody aware of any standard report which will show the stock of material and moving average price of the material for each valuation type.
M5BL is one report but would like to check if there is any other report.

    Hi,
Check MB52, select 'Display batch stock' option.
Batch is nothing but your valuation type.
You can see those details there.
