Moving files in Terminal; Need help with paths.

A user on my computer with admin access moved "Fonts" folder from /System/Library on my hard drive (not under user) to the Desktop. Now I get the blue screen upon startup. Safe mode won't work. I've searched the forum and apple support for solutions to the blue screen, but they haven't worked. I'm thinking if I can just move that file back with Terminal, everything will be fine.
So, starting with: mv ~/folder1 ~/folder2
Would someone be so kind as to help a poor fool figure out the appropriate paths of a folder sitting on my desktop as well as the System/Library folder on my hard drive (not the Library under my username)? I've tried searching but am so frustrated I'm hoping someone will be able to help me straight-up.
Thanks a ton!
PowerMac G5 Dual   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks so much for your help Niel! Sorry, couldn't get to another computer to reply. Quick question regarding the suggestion: Does that move the "Fonts" folder from my desktop into a Fonts folder that doesn't exist yet? So would the final result be: System/Library/Fonts/Fonts? Or does that overwrite? What about: mv /Users/username/Desktop/Fonts/ /System/Library/
in order to move the Fonts folder back into the Library folder?
Hope that makes sense. Thanks

  • Moving to Uk and Need help with Voltage Issue

    Hi
    I recently (less then a month) bought a new Intel based iMac (17/1.83/512/160/COMBO/AP-USA) with built in iSight, and now I am moving to UK for a year. I want to take my iMac with me. Can someone help me with true answer on how to solve the voltage issue. I did some research on here and else where but could not come to any conclusion yet.
    I found this article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75099 to know if my iMac has auto-switching voltage and also this article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301724 to determine which iMac I have but still cant come to any conclusion yet.
    This will really help me to decide if I should connect directly to power outlet in UK or will I have to buy a power converter.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hey guys,
    Thank you very much for your help. I am well aware of plug/pin adaptor to connect US plug in to UK outlet, I have been UK and Euro frequently but always with my Macbook which never had any problem cause all notebooks comes with power adaptor. This is first time I will be going with iMac that doesn't have power adaptor to convert voltage.
    All I need to know can I just plug directly into wall outlet or will need a convertor in between. I am not sure is my iMac has auto switching inbuilt.
    Thanks again

    Safe mode is not what you want in this case. Reboot to recovery mode - hold down cmd-R as the Mac reboots. Go past the language-selection screen, click the Utilities menu, then Terminal. Type:
    resetpassword
    Followed by the return key, and follow the prompts. Reboot normally when done.

  • Need Help With File Matching Records

    I need help with my file matching program.
    Here is how it suppose to work: FileMatch class should contain methods to read oldmast.txt and trans.txt. When a match occurs (i.e., records with the same account number appear in both the master file and the transaction file), add the dollar amount in the transaction record to the current balance in the master record, and write the "newmast.txt" record. (Assume that purchases are indicated by positive amounts in the transaction file and payments by negative amounts.)
    When there is a master record for a particular account, but no corresponding transaction record, merely write the master record to "newmast.txt". When there is a transaction record, but no corresponding master record, print to a log file the message "Unmatched transaction record for account number ..." (fill in the account number from the transaction record). The log file should be a text file named "log.txt".
    Here is my following program code:

    Much help is appreciated. Please help.

    From the output, it looks like one problem is just formatting -- apparently you're including a newline in log entries and not using tabs for the newmast output file.
    As to why the numbers are off -- just from glancing over it, it appears that the problem is when you add multiple transaction values. Since account.combine() is so simple, I suspect that you're either adding creating transaction objects incorrectly or not creating them when you should be.
    Create test input data that isolates a single case of this (e.g., just the Mary Smith case), and then running your program in a debugger or adding debugging code to the add/combine method, so you can see what's happening in detail.
    Also I'd recommend reconsidering your design. It's a red flag if a class has a name with "Create" in it. Classes represent bundles of independant state and transformations on that state, not things to do.

  • Need help with a simple process with FTP Adapter and File Adapter

    I am trying out a simple BPEL process that gets a file in opaque mode from a FTP server using a FTP adapter and writes it to the local file system using a File Adapter. However, the file written is always empty (zero bytes). I then tried out the FTPDebatching sample using the same FTP server JNDI name and this work fine surprisingly. I also verified by looking at the FTP server logs that my process actually does hit the FTP server and seems to list the files based on the filtering condition - but it does not issue any GET or RETR commands to actually get the files. I am suspecting that the problem could be in the Receive, Assign or Invoke activities, but I am not able identify what it is.
    I can provide additional info such as the contents of my bpel and wsdl files if needed.
    Would appreciate if someone can help me with this at the earliest.
    Thanks
    Jay

    I need help with a PDF file that is an image, the "Read Out Loud' option does not work, please help!

    You mean an image such as a scanned document?
    If that is the case, the file doesn't contain any text for Reader Out Loud to read. In order to fix that, you would need an application such as Adobe Acrobat that does Optical Character Recognition to convert the images to actual text.
    You can also try to export the file as a Word document or something else using ExportPDF which I believe offers OCR and is cheaper than Acrobat.

  • Need help with connecting file inputs to arrays

    In this assignment I have a program that will do the following: display a list of names inputed by the user in reverse order, display any names that begin with M or m, and display any names with 5 or more letters. This is all done with arrays.
    That was the fun part. The next part requires me to take the names from a Notepad file, them through the arrays and then output them to a second Notepad file.
    Here is the original program: (view in full screen so that the code doesn't get jumbled)
    import java.io.*;       //Imports the Java library
    class progB                    //Defines class
        public static void main (String[] arguments) throws IOException
            BufferedReader keyboard;                                  //<-
            InputStreamReader reader;                                 //  Allows the program to
            reader = new InputStreamReader (System.in);               //  read the the keyboard
            keyboard = new BufferedReader (reader);                  //<-
            String name;                 //Assigns the name variable which will be parsed into...
            int newnames;               //...the integer variable for the amount of names.
            int order = 0;              //The integer variable that will be used to set the array size
            String[] array;             //Dynamic array (empty)
            System.out.println (" How many names do you want to input?");   //This will get the number that will later define the array
            name = keyboard.readLine ();
            newnames = Integer.parseInt (name);                                         // Converts the String into the Integer variable
            array = new String [newnames];                                               //This defines the size of the array
            DataInput Imp = new DataInputStream (System.in);       //Allows data to be input into the array
            String temp;
            int length;                                                                  //Defines the length of the array for a loop later on
                for (order = 0 ; order < newnames ; order++)                                //<-
                {                                                                           //  Takes the inputed names and
                    System.out.println (" Please input name ");                            //  gives them a number according to
                    temp = keyboard.readLine ();                                           //  the order they were inputed in
                    array [order] = temp;                                                  //<-
                for (order = newnames - 1 ; order >= 0 ; order--)                                //<-
                {                                                                                //  Outputs the names in the reverse
                    System.out.print (" \n ");                                                   //  order that they were inputed
                    System.out.println (" Name " + order + " is " + array [order]);             //<-
                for (order = 0 ; order < newnames ; order++)                                  //<-
                    if (array [order].startsWith ("M") || array [order].startsWith ("m"))     //  Finds and outputs any and all
                    {                                                                         //  names that begin with M or m
                        System.out.print (" \n ");                                            //
                        System.out.println (array [order] + (" starts with M or m"));         //
                    }                                                                         //<-
                for (order = 0 ; order < newnames ; order++)                                            //<-
                    length = array [order].length ();                                                   //
                    if (length >= 5)                                                                    //  Finds and outputs names
                    {                                                                                  //  with 5 or more letters
                        System.out.print (" \n ");                                                      //
                        System.out.println ("Name " + array [order] + " have 5 or more letters ");      //<-
    }The notepad file contains the following names:
    jim
    laruie
    tim
    timothy
    manny
    joseph
    matty
    amanda
    I have tried various methods but the one thing that really gets me is the fact that i can't find a way to connect the names to the arrays. Opening the file with FileInputStream is easy enough but using the names and then outputing them is quite hard. (unless i'm thinking too hard and there really is a simple method)

    By "connect", do you just mean you want to put the names into an array?
    array[0] = "jim"
    array[1] = "laruie"
    and so on?
    That shouldn't be difficult at all, provided you know how to open a file for reading, and how to read a line of text from it. You can just read the line of text, put it in the array position you want, until the file is exhausted. Then open a file for writing, loop through the array, and write a line.
    What part of all that do you need help with?

  • Need help with a terminal command

    Ever since Lion, or maybe even earlier, I am fighting a losing battle against memory leaks on my MacBook Pro. Safari for example takes over time 2GB+ for just 2 or 3 tabs open with almost no extensions active. Really strange.
    Someone told me about the "purge" command in Terminal to free some of the sequestered memory, so I am doing this a few times a day to be able to use Photoshop, Keynote, Premiere and other stuff concurrently without opening and closing apps like I did 10 or 15 years ago, remember those days?
    So here are my 2 questions:
    Will this frequent "purge" command harm anything in the long run?
    If no, is it possible to automate this "purge" Terminal action somehow? Maybe a desktop icon to click, or fully automated? I am a designer, not a coder, so I would need help with that.
    Thank you for your input!

    Hello, do any modifier keys work, like Optio/alt?
    Could you have Firmware password protection in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1352
    It would block usage of all the startup keys, like C, N, T, D, CMD+s, CMD+Option+p+r, CMD +v, Option, and Shift, as well as booting from anything but the Hard Drive.
    Force Removing Password Protection
    1) Add or remove DIMMs to change the total amount of RAM in the computer.
    2) Then, the PRAM must be reset 3 times. (Command + Option + P + R).

  • [Need help with a swf file]

    Hello,
    I need help with a flash demo that I am creating. I have a
    main swf file that contains links to other sub swfs that I have
    created. What I really want this to do is... when I click on one of
    the link on the browser, the other swf have to load in the window.
    I tried to code it with .loadMovie,.... but for some weird reason,
    it is not showing up.
    Can anyone help me on this?
    Thanks

    you might have a security violation and you do have a
    load-target issue. remove that "_parent": there's no 2nd parameter
    in the loadMovie() method.
    if you want to replace the main swf with that url, loading
    into _root is fine. otherwise, you want to use a different
    target.

  • Need help with .cr2 RAW-files

    Hi,
    I've installed Aperture 2.1.2, and the newest RAW compability update (2.5).
    However, when I try to work with RAW files from my Canon EOS 1000D camera (nothing big, I know), all I see is "Unsupported image format".
    I really need help with this quick. The RAW files are in .cr2 format.

    as a last resort ...
    this is the update that added support for 1000d ... however the 3 releases post this should have it too ...
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/digitalcameraraw compatibilityupdate22.html
    but you can roll back your raw compatibility and see if that works ... then progressively go forward to current and see if/where the problem lies ...
    you could try a re-install of 2.5 ...

    info on rolling back the update is in this thread:

    Need help with msi mega 180 + athlon xp-m combo

    AFAIK, you shouldn't need a pinmod for a Mobile Athlon XP CPU to work in a nforce2 mobo
    did you have any other CPU installed prior to this one? if so, refer here to clear the CMOS: Clear CMOS Guide
    next, refer to your manual, or download from MSI, for location of the FSB jumpers; ensure J8 is shorted across pins 1-2, and J7 is shorted
    finally, enter your BIOS setup menu, and under Advanced Chipset Features, set CPU FSB to 133mhz (or even 166mhz if you have DDR333 memory). the only thing i can't see in the Mega 180 manual is where you set the multiplier...
    which is where the BIOS has limited overclocking features, and you might have a problem here
    i think i'll pass this over to the Overclockers forum, where someone may be able to give a better answer....

    "...the other memory ive been using is  memorymaxx 512mb ddr 3200..." If I understood right, your'e actually using both memories at same time so, your'e lucky if it works. We have said thousand times that mixing dif. brand/make/speed memories is a bad idea, most with this Mobo that is very picky about ram. If you want to avoid slowdown problems, stay with only one stick ( the better one ) until you can buy at same time in same store, 2 identical memories to replace the old one.
