Moving GroupWise Systems

Hi all,
I've got this scenario-
Remote site- GW7 running on Netware 6.5. Secondary GW Domain. 15 GB Post Office
Head office- GW8 running on OES Linux. Primary GW Domain.
We want to get rid of servers at the remote site and move their GW mail to the Head office. Would this be a good plan to make this happen:
1. Upgrade the Remote system to GW8.
2. Use DBCopy to copy PO to the OES Linux server (using Migration option).
3. Cut over and do a final DBCopy of Post Office and DBCopy over the Secondary Domain DB.
4. Edit the PO and Secondary Domain info in C1 making the POA object run on port 1678 so we can use the same IP.
5. Reconfigure the Secondary Domain to use the existing GWIA and WebAccess. We have DataSync running currently on the PO in the Primary Domain. I assume the SOAP connections will allow for connections to this PO in Secondary Domain.
Would it be better too if after moving the GW system to the Head office to move the PO from the Secondary Domain to the Primary Domain and get rid of the Secondary Domain? If so, what's the best way to do this?

Another option to consider is to move users directly to the primary
PostOffice. Depending on your site to site bandwidth and the size of the
users mailboxes, some nights you might only migrate one user, others
could be bunches. Just upgrade that remote system first so they are both
to a common current patch level and that both systems have had a decent
health check done.
On first blush your proposal looks doable, though more of a do or die
weekend than the above option. I've never done that type of
consolidation, so I don't have any direct experience to go by.
Step4, you'd also have to do the same for the MTA ports
Either way, this would also be a good time to find who has the big
messages and make sure they are actually needed or deleted.

Your remote sites might benefit from caching mode with losing there local
server. Also will help make the migration a bit more transparent.
And make sure you're existing system has plenty of resources, drive and
RAM.

This is what is currently planned: We want to set up a completely new GroupWise 2012 system and then move everything over from the currently running GroupWise 8 system which should be turned off after this process.

As far as I can see we have an old GWIA from GW6 and an external domain with an old external GWIA in it which is no longer in use.
I am not able to tell you more about our GW system as I'm new in this company and only heared from my colleagues that they don't know really what will happen after the removal of those objects. So my boss decided that I will have to create a completely new system and switch over to it.
After he is back from vacation I will talk to him again. Maybe he will change his mind and allows me to update and clean up the old system.

Change Groupwise system name, po name and domain name?

Hello Board,
we want to migrate a Groupwise 7 System (Netware) to a Groupwise 8 System (Linux).
Doesnt sound that difficult, but we dont want to use the names for the system name, the post office and the domain (groupwise domain, _not_ internet domain) which were used on the old system.
Currently iam trying the way mentioned in TID 10077372, which mentions merging the two systems and then delete the old System.
Am i on the right way? Do you have any hints?
Any help appreciated.

Ok you have a GW system(s) that you do not like the names and you want to change them. Not a problem. As you stated, and as Tommy said -merging works.
The process you need is to build a new GW system -same as the version you have running preferred. Set it up as you like it -name-wise. Then, merge the older systems (branches) into the new system you built. Then you will have to build new domains/post offices and move mailboxes from the old GW branches into the new domains/post offices. When its all done -delete the old, and you are done.
I have done many different variations of this type of migration/merge/consolidation. It works, its just a lot of work. Just make sure to plan it all out on paper first, document it, then go forward.

Moving a system from MSSQL 2000 to MSSQL 2000 IA64

According to platform availability matrix, we have to use mssql 2000 ia64/win2003 ia64 with this release. We want to know which procedure has to be used for moving a system from mssql 2000 32 bit to mssql 2000 ia64?

Migrating an SAP system from Windows SQL IA32 to Windows SQL IA64 is a fairly simple procedure.
I have performed this migration myself several times.
You need to ensure that your source system (IA32) has the required support pack levels for SQL 2005
I recommend you review 905634, 151603 and 683447.
I would strongly recommend that you move directly to SQL 2005 rather than SQL 2000. SQL 2005 is fully supported and offers a lot of performance and administration features (such as snapshots).
SQL Data files are compatible between SQL platforms. By this I mean if you do an sp_detach on an SQL IA32 system you can sp_attach them to an SQL IA64 system without any special action. The files are also compatible between SQL versions, you can detach from SQL 2000 and attach to SQL 2005. This is described in section III of 799058.
In your case I would:
1. Make sure you support packs are up to date on source system
2. Make sure you are using the correct collation 600027
3. Install 4.7 on your IA64 host from the install CDs
4. Update your IA64 system kernel to the correct level
5. Detach the "empty" DB from the IA64 host
6. Shutdown your IA32 system, stop SQL, start SQL and then stop SQL
7. Copy the datafiles and log files to the IA64 system
8. Attach them to your IA64 SQL 2005 system
9. Run the SQL Tools utility
10. Start up your 4.7 instance
11. Check SM21, ST04, SICK and DB02
12. Reschedule your backups and DBCC
This procedure should work and should be quite simple to implement. You can leave you IA32 system untouched, so if you experience any problems you have a fall back position (ie. just restart your IA32 system - nothing has changed on you IA32 system or its database).
I recommend you obtain the official SAP SQL 2005 CD, it includes SP1 and has a useful script call SQL4SAP.VBS that sets a lot of options for you automatically.
Check 879941 - you may need to adjust the torn page setting and auto_update_statistics_async settings or you will get red alerts in your CCMS tree.
For other people out there who use Java systems (EP, XI etc) you <b>will almost certainly</b> have to update your JDBC drivers. See note 639702.

GroupWise System Name

I am planning a new secondary domain and Post Office for our system and was going through the checklist which I thought would be good to keep around filled out. I got to the GroupWise System name but I cant find it in the Administration console.
Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum.
First - what everyone said.
Now, if you have Ps version 4.0, I do not believe that it would ever run on Win8, but I have been surprised before.
If Ps CS 4, then you are too far back to qualify for an upgrade, BUT you might wish to explore Ps CC, as that might be a useful plan for you - though I am personally not a big fan of the CC concept, it is still great for many.

Folders keep moving to System volume folder which is hidden

Dear All,
I am experiencing crisis in the infrastructure
I had virus infection and I had recovered from it "not completely" - the problem is folders keeps moving to hidden System volume folder
I tried working with security essential and it found that I have myfiles.exe infection
I blocked all executable files from the system - re installed new OS
I still get this problem that folders moved to system volume folder
from event viewer - after blocking exe files
user UUUUUUU attempted to save D:\xxx.exe on D:\ on server SSSSS This file matches the "Executable Files" file group which is not permitted on the system.
the xxx.exe name is the name of folder which then moved to system volume folder trying to put exe file on its place
please advice for urgent remediation

Is the “myfiles.exe” virus deleted, when you perform a virus scanning on the server? Please boot your server in Clean Mode to see if the issue still exists.

Moving Groupwise PO from remote host

Hello All
I run a local branch of an international corporation. Up to now, I
have used Groupwise client on Windows to access email and office
collaboration calendar over the internet from the server provided by
the head office. For political and technical reasons, I need to
control my own Groupwise server. I have purchased and installed
NLSBS9, and I think I am ready to move my files from their server to
mine. I have only a few people in the office, and not really all that
much mail, and we have cable internet, so the actual download is not
an issue. My problem is that nobody from the head office seems to
know what I need to do to get my groupwise stuff into my new groupwise
server. I have read several threads and Cool Solutions that talk
about migrating whole post offices, but I just want to move my stuff.
Of course, I want to remain a part of the corporate email directory.
Do I just create a new PO and a new tree and just import/export my
stuff over? Or is there a better way? Any suggestions? At this
point, even some broad strategic gudeline would be very useful.

Well, Groupwise mail is addressed to me as [email protected], (not my real
email) and I own a registered internet domain acme.inc.(not my real
domain), and corporate is hosting my domain name. Is this the same
thing as the Groupwise domain you refer to above? I suppose they
could be using an alias. I do not know if they gave me my own PO. Can
I find out over the internet, with Groupwise client perhaps? Or do I
have to call up and ask them? The reason I ask this is because they
are notoriously difficult to get a hold of, and even then they avoid
giving straight answers unless cornered. That is why I am asking
these questions here.

As a matter of fact, this is one of the articles I found by reading
through past posts. The reason I thought it did not apply to my
specific situation is because, as I understand it, I need to access
specific directories on their server, which I doubt they would allow
me to do. I was hoping there was a way I could do this
mostly/entirely from my end. Is there? If not, I can certainly email
this URL to them.
Your instructions above say that I should skip to step 4 if in fact I
have my own domain/po. I am assuming you mean domain as in internet
domain, and po as in an existing po on their server. Assuming that is
the case, I am confused. Does moving the po automatically move my
configuration/users/data? And should I redirect my domain before or
after I move the po. From the standpoint of minimizing downtime, it
seems to me I want to redirect my domain AFTER I move my po, so I know
for certain that the move was successful, that the new po talks to the
network, and that I can see my configuration/users/data in its new
home.

Linking 2 separate GroupWise systems

I don't think this is possible in many ways, but I thought I would put it out there to see if anyone had seen it done. Have a site with current GW system, version 8, and they want to build a new GW2014 system and move accounts from the old system to the new one. I can't think of a way to link the two systems to give this ability. Wanted to see if anyone else knew or had possibly seen this done.

You have to be in the same system to move users, but that's okay - here's how
you can do it (and by the way, this is what I do for EVERY GroupWise beta that I
participate in so that I can put myself and a few choice users on the new system
to test, while everyone else is happily on the older version):
1. Create a new domain GroupWise 8 secondary domain in the current system that
will be the new GroupWise 2014 primary domain.
2. Promote the new domain to Primary.
3. Upgrade the now new primary domain to GroupWise 2014.
4. Configure your new GW 2014 system however you like - create additional
secondary domains, POs, install GWIA, WebAccess,etc.
5. Start moving your users from the GW8 POs to the GW 2014 POs.
6. Once everything is moved and working, delete the GW8 pieces from the system.
Piece of cake really (I know - might not sound that way, but it really isn't as
hard as it might seem).

How to remove Groupwise System

Hi! We have already migrated our messaging system to Exchange. Our Groupwise services and servers are shut duwn. We'd like to remove these server and services from our eDirectory.
Groupwise 7.01
eDir 8.7.3.9
Netware 6.5
We can just turn off server and delete groupwise objects on eDir?
What's the correct procedure?

You should
0) backup
1) use consoleone to remove all eDirectory attributes from the users
(right click on them in GW view, edirectory association/remove)
2. Delete all distribution lists.
3. Delete all libraries
4. Delete all resources
5. Delete all external entities
6. Double click on domains, find the gateways delete them
7. Unload agents
8. Delete POAs, MTAs (these are child objects of pos, domains)
9. Delete Domains, POs
10. You should now have no GW related items
11. Remove Netware server from eDirectory (follow standard knowledgebase)
7 is optional
11 normally should be done with Netware server UP if possible.

Referenced files not moved into system trash when emptying Aperture trash

I check the checkbox for "Move referenced files to system trash", but instead of moving them Aperture deletes them immediately.
Anyone else having this? My referenced files are on an external drive.

You might have permissions problems with the trash on the external drive. If you delete a file on the external but outside of Aperture does it work OK?
OS X will immediately delete files if the trash file is not accessible for some reason.

Moving Previous systems folder

I have just upgraded my OS to Tiger on a G3 Tower that only has 12 Gig. I did an archive and install, which I now regret, but I did it. Now I am out of disk space. The "previous system" folder is 2.75 gig and I have been trying to move it to my external drive. It takes forever to "prepare to move" roughly 33,000 files. Then, when it actually starts to move them, I get a "permissions" error and a choice of skipping them. I choose to skip them and the "move" terminates. How can I move this folder to my external drive?"

It is not necessary to move the entire Previous System. First delete the Apple apps and utilities from the Previous System, this will give you some space. The other Third Party apps and utilities have already been moved. Those found in the Previous System are not compatible.
The entire old System folder can be trashed. Drivers for your hardware have been upgraded or moved to a current location.
What you are most interested in are located in your Home folder. The Preferences for the Third Party applications can be moved from User/Preferences (previous) to User/Preferences (new).
Do the same for the Preferences located in Library/Preferences
Be sure to Fix Disk Permissions along the way.

Moved the system to another hd and partition - cannot create root dev

hi,
i moved my arch system from one hd to another one, also to another partition. now the system does not come up, complaining it could not find the root partition. it still expects the old one, even though grub does have the right kernel option.
is this inside the initrd? how can i change it there?
is chrooting an option to rebuild the initrd?

First, make sure your GRUB entry is pointing to the correct partition, if you use UUID entry then you must update it exactly to reflect the new partition ID. Use "ls -lhF /dev/disk/by-uuid" to find it.
Second, you must edit the fstab, look above.
Third, try to boot with kernel-fallback.img
Fourth, when sucessfully booting, rebuild the initrd image with "mkinitcpio -p kernel26", after that you can boot with standard initrd.

The only issue I can foresee is a permissions one. Make sure it is set to "Ignore permissions…" before doing anything. If the drive has specific ownership when you reinstall and you fail to have a matching account to the onwer you'll need to mess with the root account to potentially get back into the drive.
Most unknowingly avoid this issue though using the same username and short username on the reinstalled system.
