Moving Models

All the other DM tools I've used store everything in one big file (the market leaders Erwin and ER/Studio do it this way). Since I find I often need to move files around, copy them, and share models with others, it's handy. With SDDM, it has all those files and subfolders! It's hard to move, and very easy to mess up and leave a file or folder behind. Even to zip it up and move it is difficult, since you have to pick the one header file from the parent directory (where I have a lot of model header files), and then one specific subfolder tree out of several.
(1) does anyone have an easy method of moving models without losing parts (usually the header file gets lost since it's one level up, and usually there are several model headers in the same directory).
(2) How do we make a suggestion that they change to a single file for the model?

Thanks Ninad, I'll take a look. You're right though, when we built the applications, we were using an NWDS that didn't support the adaptive web service model yet.

I thinks this should be possible to realize on the file system level.
- Find the folder where your model as well as the model classes are located.
- Search for all files (.) that contain the model class name. Typically it'll find (*.wdmodel and *.wdmodellclass). Change manually the package name within/near the found lines.
But why do you need to change the model class package separately from the model package?

Solid Modeling (3D Cad/Cam)

Id would really like to have a decent solid modeller on arch, does anyone have experience with the available Linux solid modellers?
These are the ones I've found and my thoughts...
freecad... If I could manage to compile it was unusable do to various bugs
graphiteone... no archlinux packages, other packages don't seem to work on arch (wrong unicode encoding in python)
varicad... havn't tried it yet, but looks promising
medusa4... downloaded installer, I'm dubious about installing it however as it uses its own graphical installer
gcad3d... no x86_64 version
proeng.. I'm not 100% but it looks like they have discontinued the linux version
brlcad.. trying it out now, first thought is that it seems a bit complicated...
any thoughts?

Catia and SolidWorks are owned by Dassault and going forward, they are only offering support on Windows. Older version of Catia V5 run on Solaris, but not Linux.
As for ones on Linux:
I've used VariCAD and it's good to a point. If you need to make simple static models, then you're fine. The last time I checked, VariCAD does not allow for kinematic constraints, which makes it difficult (but not impossible) to make moving models. The student version is only like $100 for a year licence, so it's fairly economical.
I've tried for a long time to get freecad installed but I always run into compiling errors as per another one of my threads.
BRLCAD is an option, but I haven't used it in depth. I know the US Army uses it, so it cannot be that bad.
ProEngineering Wildfire 3 runs on Linux, but it is outdated as Wildfire 5 is the current release (I think) but is only available for Windows.
I've never heard of/tried medusa4, but don't I wouldn't worry about a program that has it's own graphics installer. Matlab does and runs on Linux just fine.
If you are doing intense CAD stuff, you should probably be in windows using Catia, SolidWorks, ProE or AutoCAD

there's a pretty straight forward export/import functionality for moveing models from dev to qa and prod. Please see the SAP HANA Modeling Guide, chapter "Processing Information Objects".
You can also use CTS+ in conjunction with this functionality.

Moving OS hard drives between Macs of different makes/models

Is it okay to move the operating system hard drive (E.g. the Boot drive) from one mac to another? What about from one model of mac (E.g. a Mac Mini) to a different model. (Mac Pro) In the PC world, this is an absolute no no due to drivers, registry issues, and other problems. However, I've spoken to a couple of mac technicians who say it's perfectly acceptable and works "flawlessly."
The reason i'm asking is because we recently built a new boot drive for one of our Mac Pros (2010 model) using a Mac Mini (2012). The tech installed the OS and all the applications using his mac mini and then moved the hard drive to the mac pro. Now we are having a bunch of weird issues with this specific mac pro such as lock ups and other glitches. We are now wondering if perhaps the issue is related to the build process used.

As The hatter has said, you'd need the machine-specific installer (i.e., Mac OS 10.6.4) for a 2010 Mac Pro which wasn't what was done.
However, since it looks like you're using Lion now, if you download and install the 10.7.5 combo updater, a good portion of the operating system will be replaced and customized for the Mac Pro. You can try that to see if the various glitches are cured. There are similar combo updaters for Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion which can accomplish pretty much the same thing.

Instead of getting a wireless card for the Mac Pro, you might want to consider getting an 802.11ac wireless bridge device that would enable you to connect more than one device to it by Ethernet cable and to eventually take advantage of the faster 802.11ac wireless standard.

We have a z cube zic_c03.
Moving price and standard price is stored an Z ODS on fiscal/period wise.

I have the following issues:.
1)After adding the price control Indicator(assigned to all keyfigures in update rule) Valuated stock qty and value showing in negative.
2)Intially I didn't compress the new cube(zic_c04).After seeing negative values I compressed(no marker update enabled) it and checked.But still showing negative.
2)If I assign price control Indicator to only standard price and moving price Iam not getting any results for valuated qty and stock(price control Indicator = 'not assigned')
Pls help me to do the right modelling for the above requirement.

Moving over to RBAC from responsibilities based model

Hello,
We are on 11.5.10 and are evaluating moving over to Role based, RBAC model for user management from the current responsibilities based model. We have a HRMS and Financials implementation.
Would anybody have any pointers about any documentation or roadmap on how to implement this move over to RBAC model. I could find the documentation which describes how you will be able to implement a new user management structure from scratch incorporating custom roles, but was not able to find anything describing the migration/consolidation path to RBAC from current responsibilities based model.
Any advice/experiences regarding moving over to RBAC will be highly appreciated.

You can write click your business model , and choose to duplicate , with or without corresponding Pres. Catalogue.
Otherwise you should be able to shift select, right click copy and paste. You may want to do this in smaller groups, ie fact tables, then logical dims, then hierarchies.
I've also see some joins not get copied before, and importantly, the content levels on LTS's and measures - I've seen those not get copied also.

I wonder if anyone can advise on this. I have an older Talk21 e-mail account which has been transferred to Yahoo. I've had this for over 10 years.
I notice when new customers sign up to Yahoo, there are now more advanced security options such as special characters in password, customised secret questions, credit card verification for password recovery and Log-in Activity.
I'd be interested to improve the security of my account using these methods.
Is there any way I can get these on my talk21 account, or is there a possibility of moving my talk21 account to the new security model of Yahoo?

Not sure if this is applicable to BTinternet/Talk21 email addresses, as opposed to actual Yahoo! ones.
However in case you were unaware, Talk21 email addresses can be accessed as a BTinternet email address as follows.
If you append .t21 (including the dot) after the bit of the Talk21 email address before the @, and then added @btinternet.com at the end, it will be treated as a BTinternet email address.

Toshiba support said that my model supported virtualization..
If Toshiba support says it's there, then you should be talking to them.
So far as I know, the Satellite series (Toshiba's lowest level) does not usually have a BIOS that supports hardware vitualization.
But it's not necessary in order to run XP Mode. See the workaround here.

perhaps no, can be just slow initialisation(enable "quick boot", disable floppy drive seek to speedup boot time a bit.

well if the CD are blank or CD in drive is not bootable, boot process will continue with 2nd assigned boot device.(probably you don't have hdd configured as 2nd boot choice)(try to boot from other device should be enabled from BIOS as well). also if there is no respond(no user action taken due few seconds) at "press any key to boot from CD" boot from CD will be skipped automatically and boot process will be forwarded to second boot selection..

can't be done....there is no motherboard that will fit in that laptop that can take an Intel Core processor. You can either replace the motherboard with a like kind item or buy a new laptop.

Will the new 2012 Mac pros boot on Snow Leopard (10.6.8, installed on a HD in a 2008 Mac pro and then moved to the 2012 model).

I keep getting fuzzy answers on this (firmware, future updates, etc.). I can make a 2 partition HD on my 2008 (3.1), with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on 1, and Lion on the other, and then put this HD in the 2012 3.06ghz. Will it work? (It does on the 2010 2.93ghz).

It should after all nothing really changed. In this case it has the same latest firmware that shipped iwth some 2010s
We had discussions about this when Mac Pro 2010 started shipping with Lion last... summer/fall.
A true Lion only system ships not only without DVDs, and with Lion, but can do a network install (it grabs a small boot loader) to pull down the installer and has enough code in the firmware. Same with AHT.
A. It (10.6.8) works and you are fine
B. It works only with Lion.
What is the real question? do you need to run 10.6.8?
There is a 1/20 chance too that it has a later build of 10.7.4, right?

UML Model - Problem Moving Objects

Hi:
A co-worker and I both have JDeveloper 9.0.3.10.76, UML Modelers Version 9.0.3.9.73. When creating a new UML Class diagram, I can move objects around, resize them, etc. My co-worker has to cut and paste them back into the diagram, can't resize things, etc. In other words, once a Java class is placed on the diagram, it can't be dragged around, resized, etc. Is this a setting somewhere?

I found the problem. When that person got back, we all "upgraded" a bunch of things, and then we all had it. The problem is that we are using Java 1.4.1_03 and set the SetJavaHome line accordingly in the jdev.conf file. Evidently the events used by the UML diagram for the mouse are now slightly different under 1.4.1_03 or something. Easily solved though, we just commented out that line.
You all might verify this works with the next release though, as I'm pretty sure it isn't shipping with 1.3.1 as the default, correct?
