Moving oc4j logs files in other filesystems

Hi,
I want to change the path of all oc4j logs files. For best performance and maintenance I want to put the logs in other filesystems. It is a good way and does someone try this.
I need this change because my devlopper want to see all oc4j logs and I don't want to create many symbolic links or many samba share.
Thanks !

You can move all oc4j logs files in other filesytems. I have heard of people doing it. The product OCS, oracle collaboration suite, might have provided a single global option to do that in their next release. However, I do not think there is a single global option in oc4j itself that can accomplish that in a single swoop. I would suggest that you try it step by step, moving a subset of log files at a time.

  • Moving the log file of a publisher database SQL Server 2008

There are many threads on this here. Most of them not at all helpful and some of them wrong. Thus a fresh post.
This post regards SQL Server 2008 (10.0.5841)
The PUBLISHER database primary log file which is currently of 3 blocks and not extendable,
must be moved as the LUN is going away.
The database has several TB of data and a large number of push transactional replications as well as a couple of bi-directional replications.
While the primary log file is active, it is almost never (if ever) used due to its small fixed size.
We are in the 20,000 TPS range at peak (according to perfmon). This is a non-trivial installation.
    This means that
backup/restore is not even a remotely viable option (it never is in the real world)
downtime minimization is critical - measured in minutes or less.
dismantling and recreating the replications is doable, but I have to say, I have zero trust in the script writer to generate accurate scripts. Many of these replications were originally set up in older versions of SQL Server and have come along for the
ride as upgrades have occurred. I consider scripting everything and dismantling the whole lot pretty high risk. In any case, I do not want to have to reinitialize any replications as this takes, effectively, an eternity.
    Possible solution:
The only option I can think of is to wind down everything, such that there are zero outstanding uncommitted transactions and detach the database, delete the offending log file and reattach using the CREATE DATABASE xyz ATTACH_REBUILD_LOG option.
This should, if I have understood things correctly, cause SQL Server to recreate the default log file in the same directory as the .mdf file. I am not sure what will happen to the secondary log file which is not moving anywhere at this point.
The hard bit is insuring that every transaction in the active log files have been replicated before shutdown. This is probably doable. I do not know how to manually flush any left over transactions to replication. I expect if I shut down all "real"
activity and wait for a certain amount of time, eventually all the replications will show "No replicated transactions are available" and then I would be good to go.
Hillary, if you happen to be there, comments appreciated.

    Hi Philip
you should try this long back suggested way of stopping replication and restore db and rename or detach attach

I do not wish to be rude, but which part of the OP didn't you understand?
Specifically the bit about 20,000 transactions a second and database size of several TB. Do you have any concept whatsoever of what this means? I will answer for you, "no, you are clueless" as your answer clearly shows.
Stop wasting bandwidth by proposing pointless and wrong solutions which indicate that you did not read the OP, or do you just do this to generate points?
Also, you clearly failed to notice that I was on the thread to which you referred, and I had some pointed comments to make. This thread was an attempt to garner some input for an alternative proposal.

  • OC4J LOG FILES

    OC4J:
If I have multiple applications app1 and app2 on single OC4J server instance bound to diffrent urls How do I create diffrent log files (STDOUT and STDERR )separate for each application
    to log messages .
    Satish Juware

As per my knowledge you cannot specify different STDOUT and STDERR for each application. it's one per the server. however you can specify a log file for each deployed application and it registers all events, exceptions in that log file. this log file is by default created in the $J2EE_HOME/j2ee/home/application-deployments/<application-name> directory.
If you want different STDERR and STDOUT for each application may be you can create different instances of Oc4J for each application.

  • How can I save my Log files (and other my own files) to windows azure ?

    Hi ,Dear all
I am migrating an Asp.Net Web App to Windows Azure. It runs in IIS
    In that Web App,it will:
      1. save log files to a virtual path (for example, save to $WEBAPP_ROOT_DIR/LOGFILES/
      2. save ViewState by session as temporary files to a virtual path (for example , save to $WEBAPP_ROOT_DIR/VIEWSTATE/
      3. upload some image files to the web server virtual path at $WEBAPP_ROOT_DIR/UPLOAD/
so, when I migrate the web app to windows azure, how can I do the same job in my code?It seems so many great changes in my code ...
Any ideas and suggestions for me ? many thanks!

    hi Eric,
If you use Azure website, you can save your log and files into azure storage service ,such as blob or table.
If you use VM to host your service, you can only attach a data disk or file service on your VM and save your data into data disk or file service.

  • Is the disk equal to log files and other questions?

In the web page http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/je/GettingStartedGuide/introduction.html#dplfeatures, there is a statement, " The checkpointer is responsible for flushing database data to *disk* that was written to cache as the result of a transaction commit ".
I wonder if the disk here means log files under the JE home directory.
From my understanding of these documents and other web resources, the check pointer is to write records in Cache to Log files (disk), and then cleaner is to reorganize and then to remove unused log files. For the records in a Cache, they are brought from disk to Cache by querying the index organized in a B-Tree structure, and the In-Compressor is to delete some empty internal nodes of B-Tree.
I wonder if the above is right to describe relations among these components, check pointer, cleaner, B-Tree and In-Compressor.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Directing Log4J messages into OC4J log file

    Hi,
We currently have a web application that is running on Tomcat. We want to migrate that application over to OC4J. The application currently uses Log4J for messages. What do I have to do to have the application still write to the log4j logs.
    Thanks,
    J

    Try this:
    http://buttso.blogspot.com/2007/09/directing-log4j-logs-into-oc4j-logging.html
The application still issues log messages via log4j, but you as an administrator can configure OC4J so that the log4j messages get captured in the OC4J log system so they can be viewed using the log viewer mechanism of OC4J.

  • AFP log file - how to log file moving

    Hi all,
I am trying to find out who moved file from one folder to another on share point. I've noticed that AFP service do not log file moving/copying.
It is not a big deal, but will be nice to find this information.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Sure you can do that or, if you want
without stopping, only do this in the command line
    *>oc4j_default_island...whatever...1.log*
and it will put the file size in 0.
the *>* will sent input of nothing into the file, deleting all existing data, witout lossing the file lock.
And like 20 post earlier we have discuss about the rotation of oc4j log files under opmn.
    Regards.

  • How to delete log files in ACS 3.3

hi guys, does any 1 know how to delete log/accounting files (*.csv) in ACS 3.3 (software version under win2000 server)
kindly let me know, coz i m not able to find any option that allows me to delete them

Have you tried shutting down the ACS Service and moving / deleting the file in Windows 2000 Server.
You have to turn on the ACS service after you have deleted the log file.

  • Log files are not purged

    Hi All,
I have a TT data store, with setting LogPurge=1. There are lots of transactions manipulating the data store. If I'm correct, the log files, that are older then the older checkpoint file are to be deleted automatically by TT, if there are no operations holding them. In my case the log files are not being deleted, so an ls -ltr command prints:

As you can see, I have 67 older log files than the older checkpoint file. Now if I enter the DS in ttIsql, and call ttLogHolds I get:
    Command> call ttLogHolds();
    < 0, 38034792, Replication , APPDBTT:_ORACLE >
    < 67, 44319520, Checkpoint , appdbtt.ds0 >
    < 88, 45855168, Checkpoint , appdbtt.ds1 >
    3 rows found.
    What can be the problem?
    Thanks in advance:
    Dave

    This bookmark
    < 0, 38034792, Replication , APPDBTT:_ORACLE >
indicates that the AWT bookmark hasn't moved from log file 0. Since AWT is performed by the replication agent, it maintains a bookmark to track where its reached in reading through the transaction log files looking for transactions against any AWT cachegroups. This looks as though somehow a transaction against an AWT cachegroup has not been commited, meaning that it cannot be sent to Oracle, acknowledged and the bookmark moved on. Once the bookmark moves into a new transaction log file, all old log files can then be purged.
You might be able to identify any uncommited transaction by using ttXactAdmin and checking for locks held against AWT cachegroups.

  • Exchange missing a log file that never existed?

We tried moving the log files, it didn't get any further, ended up running eseutil /r to repair it.Hopefully we'll have just lost system emails from over night, not often people here are working til 9 at night,
I'm more curious as to why it's looking for a file that seemingly never existed?

Hi guys,Just wondering if anyone has come across anything like this before.I landed at work this morning to find our Exchange 2010 mailbox database dismounted and failing to mount with this error, which appears to have started at 21:15 last night;TextInformation Store (4080) Mailbox Database 0212677306: Database C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Mailbox Database 0212677306\Mailbox Database 0212677306.edb requires log files 517935-517954 in order to recover all committed data. Recovery could only locate up to log file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Mailbox Database 0212677306\E000007E741.log, and could not locate log generation 517954. If the log file cannot be found, the database(s) can be recovered manually, but will result in losing committed data. Looking in the mailbox database...

  • How to place/retrive a file in other machine connected in a n/w

I am in urgency to have this information. I would really appriciate if any one can gimme the information.
I am involved in developing a web-based application.
I would like to give a breif description of my requirements.
1)User browses a file and specifies a location to store that file. The location typically will be a directory (unix dir like /usr/tmp)of any machine connected in the network and clicks archive button. That file should be stored in that location specified.
2)User will give the location of file(the location will be full path file in any machine connected in the network ) and clicks DownLoad button.
How can I do this. I explored how to upload a file to Tomcat server and My question is how to save this file in the directory specified by the user (if the machine is other than where tomcat is residing)and how to retrive the file specified by the user.
How can I do this using Servlets & JSP. It would be too great if one can gimme code snippts or atleat let me know the procedure.
    Thanks & Regards
    Kishore K

or if you are using linux then simply run java JMFRegistry and you should be able to see JMF Registry Editor where you can turn on the logging by checking "Allow Logging " and by specifing the logging directory for jmf.log file.

  • Activate extended log files

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me where you activate extended log files for the webcache. At present we have common log files.
    We are using Portal 9.0.2.2.14a
    Oracle Appli. Server 9.0.2.0.1
    Many Thnaks,
    Karl

    Hi Karl,
You can do so by selecting the different fields required for the extended log format. Essentially, you'd be customizing the "common" log file.
