Moving rented movies to iPod

I have searched for this and cannot find an answer, so apologies if it has already been addressed. I am using iTunes 8 with a 5th generation iPod on Windows XP. I rented a couple of movies and cannot find any way to transfer them to the iPod. When I synch, they do not show up in the Movies list, nor is there a separate entry for "rented movies." They do show up on iTunes as "rented movies," so I know they downloaded.

5th generation iPod
Rented movies can't be played on a Fifth Generation iPod and won't be transferred to it.

  • Moving rented movies from Apple TV

I'm having a problem moving rented movies back from my ATV to my iMac.
The scenario is I rent a movie in iTunes on the Mac, move it to the ATV, and after watching it I then try to move them back to the Mac before the rental expires. It won't transfer back even though I'm connected to the Internet.
The "move" option exists in iTunes (I can select either "move" or "delete") in the ATV box. If I select "move" the movie graphic moves over to the Rented Movies field. The problem is that after I click on Sync the movie flips back to the ATV box as soon as it completes syncing so it doesn't become available to watch on the Mac.
I've tried this on several occasions and with different movies. No luck. It looks like it should work but never has successfully transferred back. The iTunes & ATV software are all up to date.
    Any ideas?

Yes. The movie rentals originate in iTunes on the Mac.
Perhaps it's easier to understand my situation. We have a number of young adults in the house. They often want to watch the same movies we rent if we tell them if it's worthwhile. The ATV is in our bedroom and my wife & I don't fancy having a half-dozen twenty-somethings piling on the bed to watch a rented movie. The Mac is in my home office. I would like to transfer movies back to it where they can watch or even transfer movies to an iPod & plug into a dock connected to the TV in our family room. I can't get the movie to transfer back (even though it originated on the Mac).
Normally any rented movies are in the ATV field (in my case called "Dad's Apple TV") and there's "move" & "delete" buttons. What I have been doing is to click on Move and then Sync. The movie icon does initially move to the Rented Movies field but it pops back the ATV field just as it finishes syncing.
Now an interesting thing has turned up this morning. We had rented a movie ("Date Night"...thumbs down) last Friday, watched it last night (Monday), and went to iTunes this morning to try once again to transfer it back to our Mac. This time the movie does not show up in the "Dad's Apple TV" field in iTunes even though it's been less than 24 hours since we first started watching it. The only thing that may be different is we fell asleep watching the movie and woke up hours later with the screen saver on. I can't say we've ever left a movie running through the credits to the very end before now.

  • Moving Rented movies from computer to ipod

I need some help. I have a one year old ipod classic.
I cannot seem to move rented movies from my computer to my ipod.
When I plug my ipod to my computer and hit the movie tap, I do not see the movie.
The move is showing on my computer, but it does not give me a choice to move it to my ipod, like I have seen on other help sites.
Do I need to turn something on my ipod?
I have loaded TV shows to the ipod and watched them, but I cannot move the rented movies.
I checked to see if I have the updated software, and I do.
Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks

    Hi,
The iPod you have (incidentally, the same one I have) can essentially watch TV shows, Movies, and Music Videos, but no rental movies. I was met with the same disappointment when I discovered I cannot put rented movies onto my iPod. It is sort of a shame, as I'm not entirely convinced there's a hardware element missing from my iPod preventing this from being supported.
Sorry I didn't have better news for you. You might want to consider emailing iTunes Store support and seeing if there's some way they can compensate for this, as the file purchased is not compatible with your device. Since the files are set to disappear after a certain amount of time within beginning playback, I'm almost sure they'd be able to determine whether you've viewed the movie yet.
    Email them here: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/browser/

  • Exactly How To Sync Rented Movies to iPod 3rd Generation Nano?

I've been looking all around these boards for over an hour and there are definitely topics about the rental movies and the different iPods they will sync with etc etc... I'm having the same troubles a lot of others are, like my rented movies won't show up in the Movies tab. I even dragged the picture of the rented movie to my iPod icon but only the picture moves and nothing else.
*So please, I just need a step by step account of how to sync the movies I rent from iTunes to my 3rd generation iPod nano.* Thank you in advance.

You can't.  iCloud is only compatible with iOS devices running iOS 5 or later.

  • Can't trasfer rented movie to iPod Classic

I can't transfer a rented movie onto my iPod Classic. It's definately an iPod Classic, not a 5th. Gen., and I've watched rented movies on it before. When I try to drag the rented movie onto the iPod in iTunes it says the movie won't transfer becuause it "cannot be played on this iPod". Any help?
    ~A

Thanks for the response although I still can't get it to work.
Once I selected my iPod and then the movies tab under Rented Movies it says "There are no rented movies in your iTunes library that can be transferred to this iPod", even though the movie (Bruce Almighty) shows up in my library under the Rented Movies tab.

  • Watching rented movie on iPod

I just downloaded a movie from the iTunes store to watch on my iPod but it will not load...there is an icon on iTunes that shows the movie is there and after I plugged in my iPod and made adjustments on the "movie" folder but the rented movie will not load into my iPod....any suggestions?

You can send an email here -> http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/browser/
and explain you have a 5th gen (though you can watch it in iTunes) and see if they will refund your money.
I've downloaded a few TV podcasts and they worked fine...
Rentals are a bit different than video podcasts or purchased movies/tv shows in that in that they expire and the required hardwae/firmware is not available on the older iPods.

  • Moving Rented Movies

I recently rented 3 movies on my ipod touch, but I lost the ipod.  Can I move the movies to my computer without my ipod?

    No.
You cannot move movies rented on an ipod/iphone/ipad at all.

  • Moving rented movies between various devices

The iTunes Store Movie Rental FAQ states that "You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only be viewed on one device at a time." I moved a rented movie from my Mac to my iPhone, but I can't figure out how to move the movie back to the Mac, even while the rental period is still valid.
How do I do that? Is it even possible?

Unfortunately that isn't what I wanted to hear, but had a bad feeling that was the answer. My ATV's are synced from an external hard drive where all my music resides. I maintain a different library on my MB.
It would not be worth the time to link to another library for 1 movie. I guess I'll have to rent movies to that library and then I could move them to another computer or ATV is that correct?
Can I stream a rented movie from my MB to a ATV? If so how?
    Thanks for your help

  • Rented movies on ipod ...

I have an ipod classic(or 5th generation I can't figure it out) and I can't get rented movies to sync onto it. Is it not capable of that or am I doing something wrong? Because if its not capable of syncing rented things, thanApple should put it on the Itunes store that it can't. This is the third time this has happened tome and its really getting pathetic.

iTunes rentals can only go on the iPhone, touch, iPod classic or the 4G nano.

  • Rented Movies on Ipod Classic

Hello... I have the Ipod video classic with 30gigs and have downloaded two rented movies to my Itunes. when I try to transfer to my Ipod, I get the message that the movies were not transfered because myIpod cannot play these movies. I have played purchased movies before, so why can I not play the rentals on my Ipod. What gives?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You have a Fifth Generation iPod not an +iPod classic+ and unfortunately Movie Rentals are not compatible with the Fifth Generation iPod.

  • Rented movies and Ipod nano 3rd gen.

I believe the ipod nano 3rd gen allows for rented movies.
so I should be able to sync my rented movies to my ipod easily.
However, when I go to the movies section under sync, the rented movies tab does not show? Something I'm doing wrong? (I believe before I saw the rented movies tab before, it stopped showing though) or does apple just suck?

Yes, the 3rd gen Nano supports rented movies. There is no separete tab for rented movies. They show up in the regular Movies tab. You can't sync them, though, only transfer them from one device to another as you can only have them on one device at a time per terms of rental.
With your Nano connected, click on the movies tab. You should see two boxes at the top. In the left hand box should be all of the rental movies you have on your computer. There should be a button between the two boxes that says, I believe, "Transfer" (don't have any rental movies so I can't say absolutely). Select the movie you want to move to your Nano and press transfer.
And by the way, your last comment almost resulted in me not even bothering to try to answer your question. Rudeness really has no place here (or anywhere, in my opinion). Everyone here is a fellow user, a volunteer.
    Best of luck.

  • Can't get rented movies on iPod

We downloaded a rented movie, but nothing we try will get it to our ipod nano. Any suggestions or are others having this problem?

Rentals can be on one device at a time.
If you rented on the ipad/ipad/iphone, then you cannot transfer it at all.

  • Moving rented movie

Can I move a rented movie from itunes to my ipad without a Wi-Fi connection as I am vacation and using my sisters computer.

well if anyone else is reading this. save yourself the trouble. I called tech support. they tried to hit me with, "your ipod is out of support" and it would be 35.00 for additional support to watch the 4.99 movie.
i countered with, its not the ipod thats the problem, its the itunes.
after lots of research the tech support guy said "you cannot move the movie from the ipod to the computer. only the other way round."
long story short, they said they would credit the account so i could re-download the movie to the computer - which i did but it did not say "free" - said, "you already downloaded this movie, are you sure you want to dl it again?" to which i answered yes.
i hope the account is not charged twice for the same movie.
in summary, it would be much easier if itunes simply told their customers somewhere, like on the main page, "you cannot move this movie from ipod to computer."

  • Rented movies on ipod touch

I'm getting ready to fly home for Christmas. Does anyone know if movies rented from iTunes can be synced and then played on my iPod Touch? I really don't want to rent a movie and then not be able to put it on my iPod and watch it on the plane.

    Yes you can
Hope the info below helps explain it a bit more.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/whatson/movies.html
    Rent movies.
With titles from every major Hollywood studio, the iTunes Store makes it easy to rent your favorite movies with a click. Standard-definition movie rentals are $2.99 for library titles and $3.99 for new releases. And for just a dollar more, you can rent HD movies directly from your widescreen TV via Apple TV. Rent a movie and you have 30 days to start watching it. Hit Play, and you have 24 hours to finish it — or play it as many times as you want. Rentals disappear when they expire, so they won’t take up space on your hard drive.
(So as long as you rent, sync, and do not play it till you reach the plane and are ready. The rental can be viewed as many times as you want within a 24 hour time span. Once 24 hours is up you can no longer view the rental.)
    Sync and go.
Movies you rent or buy from the iTunes Store transfer to your iPod2 or iPhone to watch on the go. Your iPod or iPhone remembers where you stopped watching on your computer and picks up where you left off.
    Download from DVD.
Buy select DVDs and you get something extra free: an iTunes Digital Copy. Just pop the DVD into your computer, enter the code provided, and the Digital Copy transfers to your iTunes library, ready to watch or sync to your iPod, iPhone, or Apple TV.

  • Problem moving rented movie from laptop to iPad

When I go to move a rented movie from my macbook pro to iPad nothing happens and there is no dialogue box. Purchased movies sync fine. This is a new macbook pro so perhaps the new OS is having a compatibility issue with the iPad? Any ideas?

Did you click "Apply" on bottom right? See second picture.
