Moving scaled objects problem

Hey Guys, hope all are having a great Summer!!
My problem(s)...created a simple graphic, pencil & paint brush drawing (separate, not drawn together nor grouped together) to replace the 2 letter L's in "illustrator. Completed w/no problem, placed where I wanted to use them (a business card), but when I tried to move the word(in approx. 9 pt type) or scale larger I would get this warning... "Can't move the objects. The requested transformation would make some objects fall completely off the drawing area."
note: drawings contain a couple of simple 2 color grad., scaling using the "shift>drag" method, also tried to "option>drag" to duplicate! What am I doing or did do wrong?
Working on a mac PPC 2.0, 2gb ram, Illy CS2
Thanks for any input! Les
PS art board is 8.5x11

OldBob, Thanks for the link!!!! cleaned up stray points regardless, zoomed out like suggested- had plenty of room on scratchboard, however when I selected my design (drawings & type(outlined of course)) I seemed to also select 2 of my guides (which even though locked persisted to select & move with my drawing!) Hit ungroup and the problems went away!!! Don't know really why this happened but well.. WE got it to work!! Thanks so very much for your fast reply!! Les

  • Timeout Object Problem: Can't recreate scaling error

In my movie there is a function that scales 3D objects over
time using a timeout object. The 3D objects are in an array that is
shuffled each round, and based on the outcome of the array shuffle,
some 3D objects are scaled and some are not.
I have been testing this for a while and it almost always
works as I anticipate, however I have encountered some events
wherein unexpected 3D objects are scaled. To track down the error,
I have been tracing the results of the array shuffle, as this is
what drives the scaling. When I encountered an event where
unexpected objects were scaled I recorded what I thought was a
“bad” array shuffle. Then, disabling the array shuffle
function, I set the shuffle result to my “bad” array. I
expected it would recreate the problem (unexpectedly scaled
objects) however it worked accurately this time around.
Are there any rules regarding timeout objects that are
commonly broken that may be causing this? Does a timeout object
behave any differently in the Director environment than it does in
a published projector? Any broad or general tips (sorry I
can’t post the code) are appreciated.

    Hi
In the "fShrink", function the variable called "sTimeout" is
    a string:
    sTimeout = String("ShrinkTimeOut"+(_system.milliseconds));
in the function "fShrinkLoop", the second parameter being
passed in is the timeout object. Therefore in this function, the
variable called "sTimeout" is a timeout object.
The thing to remember is the object that sends the message
determines what the parameter is (it doesn't matter what you name
    the parameter).
In the case of Timeout objects, the first parameter is the
object that Director sends the timeout callback message to (in this
case, your model object... and since your model doesn't have a
method for handling the response, Direct tries the global name
space instead - but still conveniently sends the reference to the
'callback object' as the first parameter). The second parameter is
always a reference to the timeout object itself.
(on a side note - you have taken advantage of a quirk with
timeout objects that let you pass parameters with timeout callbacks
by using the 'callback target' but letting a movie script handle
the callback). If you want to send more than one parameter, you
have to bundle them together into a single paremeter object).

  • Transform handles are moving the object and not scaling.

I've been running into trouble with the transform handles on objects moving the object instead of scaling/stretching the object. It seems to happen on the bottom and right sides vs the top and left sides. When I have the mouse over the handle it shows the scaling icon, but when I press the mouse it turns into the black selection arrow. Is anyone else experiencing this and know how to fix it?

    kjredin,
I am afraid you have come across the Live Rectangle bug which is limited to the MAC versions starting with 10.7 and 10.8, but not 10.9 (Mavericks) or 10.10 (Yosemite). Hopefully, the bug will be fixed soon.
So a switch to Mavericks or Yosemite with a reinstallation might be the way to solve it here and now.
To get round it in each case, it is possible to Expand the Live Rectangles to get normal old fashioned rectangles, or to Pathfinder>Unite, or to use the Scale Tool or the Free Transform Tool.
A more permanent way round that is to create normal old fashioned rectangles, after running the free script created by Pawel, see this thread with download link:

  • Moving selected objects up and down with keyboard is automaticly applying a colour fill.

    Hi,
My InDesign is strangely applying a colour fill when i move an objects up or down using the directional arrow in my keyboard. If the colour pallet is open. Nudging an object up makes the pallet disappear on the first press. It then reappears on the second press while filling the object (text frame) with black. This is instensly frustrating. How can I stop this? Suggestions would be very appreciated.
I have already reset the preferences.
    Cheers,

    Thanks for your reply.
I fixed the problem by replacing the keyboard!

I have to ask if you reset the prefs uing one of the methods in this thread: Replace Your Preferences If not, there's a good chance you left out one of the files, so please try again using one of the listed methods. And please tell us the OS and your version of ID, including the patch level. Obviously this is not normal behavior. It sounds as if the Swatches panel has focus when you are pressing the arrow keys.

On the first day everything was working fine, but now I have a problem moving an object. Every time I am moving an object with the cursor the illustrator crashes. HELP!!!!
(a friend told me it's graphic card problem, but still I can't find what causes the problem)

    sokiN,
The issue seems to be caused by the Chrome Pushbullet extension, see this post #3 by Matt with the solution:

  • Moving multiple objects in a Finder window

Try a simple experiment in Tiger (10.4): in a Finder window with the icon view + snap to grid ON, select multiple grouped objects (e.g. 10-20) and move them to a different place in the same window.
They will not stay grouped but be sometimes dispersed in a random way or even move to places belonging to different grids.
Another experiment is to move a single object from one window into another one: this changes the grid of the second window from time to time.
This is extremely annoying when you want to keep the icons ordered.
This bug existed also in Panther.
I'm convinced it will exist in the next Mac OS X release. Do you bet ?

    Hi DarkStar,
In my case there are no other major application running when I see the moving multiple objects bug in the Finder. And (as for econupmac) the problem is intermittent.
I've checked the bug again and realize that it appears mostly when I'm moving a group of objects belonging to different columns. Here is what I did:
Create a folder with the 'Snap to grid' option ON and 'Icon size 16x16'. Set its View as Icon. Load this folder with 30 files and organize them into 3 groups of 10 files side by side. Enlarge the size of the folder to have plenty space by maneuver.
Now select the 5 bottom files of the middle column and move them gently around, then release them. The 'Snap to grid' feature will work fine and the files will be shifted to the nearest grid position... except when the files will stay in the middle of nowhere (you might need to do it several times until it happens).
    THIS IS THE APPLE BUG.
This bug is more easily seen when a group of objects belonging to 2 adjacent columns is moved. Check this on a nicely arranged folder : Select the 5 bottom files of the middle column and the 5 bottom files of the right column and move them slightly. I bet that they will not stick to the grid. This will create a second grid which corrupts the folder. The next time you'll move around objects in this folder you'll see how crazy the folder behaves.

Beta 2 or RC1 candidate???? RC1 should support..........
Beta 2 is real, slow and you have alot of updates to DL, but both are pre-release products and will not work 100%.
Even when Vista is released, they will still be alot of hardware that will not work 100% and this is purely because software is always playing catch up to hardware.
It was only September, when Nvidia released some Beta2/RC1 drivers that worked properly........

  • Checks to be done before moving the objects from DEvV to PROD systems

    Hi,
Please provide the standard methods and checks to be done in the transport requests before moving the objects from DEv to PROD.
    Please help us here.

In se10 find your request and
Upper left corner - Request\task -> Complete check -> Object (syntax check) and Check Request Consistency.
This you can do for your request and all the tasks included in your request.
Note: Transport may still fail due to numerous reason (i.e) not all the objects needed are collected in the request,
but at atleast it gives some assurance that objects are not blocked in other requests etc...

  • Moving an object from $tmp

    Hi Experts,
Suppose i saved an object by mistake in $tmp. How to move this object to quality.
    plz give solution for this

    Hi Lokesh,
Well everybody said the right thing i.e. if you want to transport any object from $tmp, you have to go to se38 and than-
    1.Click on Goto->Object Directory Entry.
2.Click on change i.e. pencil icon and then,
3.Give your package name in the package option.
4.After that you are provided one transport request by the system.
    5.Click on continue.
Through this way you can make the object transportable.
But may be sometimes you want one object only local i.e. not to transport($tmp),and mistakenly you make that object transportable. So in order to make it again local, you have to do following things:
    1.Go to se09 or se10.
2.Display all the transport request made by you.
3.Now find your transport request in all these.
4.After that you find your program name in them.
    5.Now delete that program.
6.After that you go to se38 and do the same procedure as do in your solution i.e. moving a object from $tmp.
7.Give your package name here as $tmp.
Through this way you can again make a object local.
If you don't follow the steps 1-5 than you are not able to make a object loacl again, because the object is locked by the transport request.
    Regards.

Thank you for replying. I had no idea I had a response. It is a Windows 7 Home Premium. The game is actually now a few different ones for my child, Baby Luv, Brave & Disney Princesses. None of them will work. I have an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 graphics card in this (Compaq Presario All-In-One Desktop PC) and I just posted another question in the forum about wanting to know if I can replace the grahics card with a HD card and if so how? I have looked online but can't find an answer. Is it possible to replace the card or with it being an all-in-one is it not possible? Thank you.

I use QT in Authorware fairly frequently. I don't find it
    particularly
buggy, though some of the sprite functions don't seem to
    be...well
implemented. I agree it can be a pain to use, especially with
    not
everyone having QT already installed and Apple's licensing...
However, if indeed Tom's not getting the responsiveness he
    needs, then I
echo the suggestion of an MP3 in Flash. Or, didn't Apurva
    make an MP3
player for Authorware? Or maybe it was a published Authorware
    product
that acted as an MP3 player...

  • Problems moving  an object with the selection tool

Im working on CS2 and since last week I have a problem moving objects with the selection tool: To move the object I am obligate to select the object first, and then click at the edge/stroke of the object to drag it. Before that I could move the objects just by selecting somewhere in the object and then just drag it to some other place in one step. I think I maybe changed something in the general preferences....

Ho thanks a lot Kurt!!!!! Indeed, that was the problem!!! Finally I can work normally again.... (the joker was me...but not on purpose)
    Thanks again!

  • Problem selecting and dragging or moving an object with hyperlink activated

    Hei!
It is impossible to select or move normally an object, for instance a photo, which contains an activated link, and that's very annoying.
First: Let's say I have that object on the top of the page and I want to put it lower, or maybe cut it and paste it somewhere else. First I need to select it, but as soon as the mouse is on top of it, the mouse over activates and opens a webpage to the designated link.
Second: before I do anything with it, I need to select the object and the only way to do it is by drawing a selection rectangle, which gives me the problem of needing to avoid surrounding objects which I don't want to select. If I don't have space enough, I have to let them get selected together with the desired object, and then unselect using the command key + mouse click.
Third: if I want to move it, i can only do it with the arrow keys, because if I use the mouse, I get back to first problem. So it's that, or disabling the hyperlink, move the object normally, and putting the hyperlink on again. None of it very practical.
If I actually want to cut the object and paste it in another page of the site, after I went through first and second problem, I can cut normally the object, got to the desired page and paste it there. If once there I still need to move the object to place it where I want, I end up in third problem anyways.
Is there any way to avoid this trouble?
    Thanks

Thanks Mark, but you answered what I already included within my question. I wrote "So it's that, or disabling the hyperlink, move the object normally, and putting the hyperlink on again"
With that, to "Uncheck the "Make hyperlinks active" you need to first select the object, and you end up back to the first and second problem I wrote.

  • Problems Moving An Object Perpendicular To Its Perspective Grid

I have been following this tutorial: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-illustrator-cs5/mapping-flat-artwork-to-the-perspective-gr id/ in which artwork is mapped to the perspective grid.
Towards the end  of the video (7:00) a sign is mapped to the left grid then moved perpendicular along the right grid ... this is achieved by holding down the tilde key.
When I hold down the tilde key and move the object (which is selected with the perspective selection tool, with the correct grid selected ) it does not map it perpendicular as in the video.
I have deleted my illustrator preferences file (in case any settings were causing this feature not to work). Also if I create a new object and press the tilde key and drag I can create multiple instances, so the tilde key at least in this case is being recognized.

    CF,
Do you have a US English keyboard?
If not, you may/will have to use another key.

  • Moving an object in the stage

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I have an
object that is serving as a background for a flash website. The
background object (a table) moves and rotates around when clicked,
exposing different parts of the table on the stage when the user
    clicks.
Here is as close an example as I can find:
    http://www.vermeersch.ca/
My problem is when i want to transition between two points on
the table, the table has to rotate and move.. and by just using a
motion tween between the two points results in the table rotating
off the stage for a few frames (thus exposing the background and
making it look really cheezy). I was trying my hand at using motion
guides, but can't do it with any accuracy.
So, my question is: Is there a way to guide an object as it
rotates and moves so that it doesn't move off screen? (there is
plenty of room on the table if i can just guide its path through
the 2 second transition). Thanks for any support.

    http://www.personal.psu.edu/jwc5062/
So far you can't really see it moving off the stage.. but the
beginning is awkward because i had to zoom in really tight before i
could rotate to avoid the problem. I can't transition between
"resume" and "portfolio" without it moving off the stage for half
    the transition.
    Thanks for the help
