MP3 Cover Art?

I have an MP3 with Cover Art embedded. When I add it to my iphone using itunes and play the music I see the cover art. However if I email the MP3 to myself and open the attached file the music player that comes up does not show the cover art. Am I doing something wrong with the one I am emailing or does the audio player used to play back MP3s that come through email not support Cover Art?

Could you please tell us the name of this program?

I can no longer see my mp3 cover art in finder

Last week I updated OS to 10.8.2, then later that week I did a disk check and permissions verify and repair, after that none of the mp3 tap images show up in finder, I do allot sound post work, and it help to be able to see the cover art once an mp3 file has been tagged. I spent 1.5 hours at the apple store yesterday, we checked and the tag images were visable on another computers through shared folder, so we tried deleting plists, but it definitly system wide and not on a user lever setting. I also did a re-install, ( were I did notice the downloader is extremely slow, I have very fast internet 50mps and lets just say it was moving at dial up speed.)
Any suggestions?

No album cover art in Finder for mp3's? What a downgrade.

I have album cover art imbedded in ALL my mp3 files and they used to show up perfectly in Finder. Now, I see NOTHING. Cover art still shows in iTunes, but not Finder. Any fix for this?

I have no such problem with iTunes with a library of more than 30000 songs.
I used to be a Weekend DJ with many many Albums.
Which view in iTunes does not give you an Artwork.
One thing to note is the list view, will give you an Artwork only if there is more song than the size of the Artwork icon.
here is an example
I left only two song in the Hush Album to show that list view, wont give you the Artwork in this case.
but as you can see, the info of the selected song show the artwork.
in the finder, without Icon Preview checked, you wont see the artwork.

Why do you convert the song ?
if the original song is an aiff, wav or a movie, the artwork cannot be inserted inside the file, so converting it will result into a song without artwork.
Sometime you will see a file marked MPEG-3 but it is a video. Open it into Quicktime, export it as a audio file then put it in iTunes, and if the file is mp3 or mp4, AAC, then you can insert the Artwork.
I probably dont fully understand your problem, give me more info but I am using iTunes since the very first version and I never hard a problem with artwork.

Problems concerning sonata playlists and freevo cover art

Hi!
I'm setting up a media center PC and I'm having some problems with the playlists created by sonata. Another problem I have is not getting freevo to download cover art.
First: When ever I try to make a playlist through the "Current" tab in Sonata it creates a m3u file with every song that's listed in the current window. I'm used to being able to pick one or a couple of songs and then adding it a specified playlist. Is this impossible in sonata? And if I try to play the m3u file created (the one with every song listed) through freevo I get a message that the directory is empty. What am I doing wrong??
Second: I'm having big problems getting freevo to download cover art to my music. I can download info on movies from imdb, but info for the music doesn't work. I store the cover art downloaded by sonata in the different album folders and these covers show up in freevo. But if I have to play every new song i download first in sonata to get the cover art working in freevo I'll go crazy. It's supposed to work the same way in freevo as in sonata isn't it???
It also seems that mplayer can't play m3u files. Using the mentioned sonata made m3u file in mplayer does nothing. Mplayer starts but nothing happens.
My goal is to be able to make playlists through sonata and then play these lists using freevo. I don't want to get up from the couch.

It's clearly not impossible, just different than you expect. Create your playlist as you want it to appear in the Current tab (meaning don't dump every single song from your library in there, just the ones you want) and then save the playlist.

Cover Art All Screwed Up

I recently had to restore my Ipod classic as it was not sending play counts back to Itunes... that problem is now fixed, but I have another. Much of the cover art is now missing when I play tracks on my Ipod, and what there is is now all jumbled up. (By which I mean.. the art is for tracks I do have, but they are all assigned to the wrong artists.)
I have synched 8000+ tracks - all in mp3 format with the correct cover art embedded in the original files.
So, my question is, can I force Itunes / my Ipod to recheck the artwork either from the mp3 files themselves (ideally, as I know they are correct)or failing thta, from Apples database. i don't really want to restore again if I can avoid it.

Sometimes the artwork cache becomes corrupt and fails to show correct artwork, even when this is properly set up in iTunes. To rebuild the artwork cache, connect your iPod to iTunes. Locate the iPod in the Sources pane on the left-hand side, then select the Music tab. Remove the tick from *Display album artwork on your iPod*, sync the iPod, reselect the option & sync again.

Cover art not being loaded in iTunes 7

How does iTunes get the artwork it displays in the new cover browser? From the artwork included with the id3 tag of the mp3 file, or from the directory the mp3 file is in?
I have cover art in most directories (directories organized by album), but it is not being loaded. Does the filename have to be in a specific format? Or does the artwork actually have to be embedded in the id3 tag of the mp3 file?

Cover art gets lost between 2 Macs

Hi,
I'm importing my whole CD collection to have it playable on iMac with FrontRow. Because of ergonomics and the fact that the iMac is not net connected I'm ripping my CD's on another Mac and then transfering them with USB memory card or with DVD-RW. I have found that if I forget to add the cover art to the album and then try to do it later, the art does not travel with the file ? I'm always copying the iTunes Library file and the .xml file from the user folder with the actual music files. The art that was pasted with the correcsponding ripping file is seen on my iMac just fine, but the art that was added later and though it shows alright with my G5 when transfered to iMac doens't show up there in the FrontRow ? Any ideas what to do ? also FrontRow insists that I have two different folders of one artist (named excactly the same) although iTunes only shows one artist name ?

Depending on the file format you use for importing CDs, artwork is stored inside the audiotracks (or isn't): MP3, AAC: artwork is stored inside the audiotracks; AIFF, Wav: artwork is stored somewhere else.

Manually adding cover art

Hi there.
Don't know if anyone can help me, but I've got some of my own productions I have converted to MP3 and wanted to add to my iTunes. I've done most of them with no problems, but for some reason the version of iTunes I'm running (10.0.1.22) won't allow me to manually add cover art through the "get info" option in the right click dropdown menu.
Anyone know what I'm missing here?!!!

Can one share album cover art between WMP and iTunes?

I am regularly using Windows Media Player as well as iTunes (the latter mainly to fill my iPod). All my albums (well-organized in subdirectories) contain a file "folder.jpg" (which is the standard unser windows) containing the album's cover art.
iTunes apparently goes off and tries to download the cover art from some server and then stores it in its own setup under .../My Music/iTunes/Album Artwork/..., but obviously isn't very good at that, since it finds only maybe 20% of the covers, the rest remains empty. Is there a way to tell iTunes to pick up the cover art from those folder.jpg files?
Ideal would of course be, if the two could share these files (i.e. pointing to the same file (e.g. using NTFS hard-links). Is that possible? Does anyone know a tool or script that does that automagically?

No. You can work around this by using another program like Mp3tag to embed the artwork from folder.jpg into the ID3 tag. Despite its "mp3" name, Mp3tag will also work on AAC files.
You cannot use hard links because the iTunes artwork files are not simply picture files. The pictures are embedded in some other (undocumented of course) ITC format (I say ITC format because that is the file extension -- I have no idea what it means). Also, you would have to figure out the folder structure.
Another option is to use an external program to "trick" itunes into downloading the artwork from your own server. See these threads/posts:

Bridge for Mac without cover arts from iTunes

Hello,
I just upraded to Sony Bridge for Mac 3.9 (3903) and since then no cover art from iTunes albums is displayed any more.
Previous Version of the Bridge had already some difficulties with Cover Art, mainly regarding TIFF-images. But now
nothing at all is displayed.
Of course I have restarted the application as well as the Mac itself - no change of the behaviour occured.
Do I still have any options to try?

I have mostly MP3-Files in my iTunes library (90%). Even purchased songs are converted to MP3 because of the higher compression, even with 160 kbit/s and VBR. But I think regarding coverart the graphics format is more important. Here native Apple cover art seems to be generally TIFF, which sometimes makes problems with Bridge for Mac, esp. larger images. If I convert those large TIFF-images to JPEG, the problems disappear most of the times.
And "Yes", I sent a bug report to SONY directly.

Hi have just set up my new media hub after returning netgear stora ( don't ask ! )
The only thing I have noticed is with the netgear cover art would show up on ps3 for movies ie :- if movie had file name of Tarzan and you had a jpeg in folder named Tarzan it would show up on ps3 as picture of Tarzan and you would obviously just navigate to whatever file you wanted and clicked ok movie would then start cannot see how this would work on media hub if any body has got this working please let me know if the likes of netgear and western digital can do it why can't linksys or have I missed something ?:

Cover Art Corruption?

Hello. I bought an iPod Touch 32 GB (3rd Gen.), model A318/EMC2310 about 1 month ago. It came with the 3.1.2 firmware, and I updated it to 3.1.3.
I noticed some days ago that something pretty "wrong" and annoying started happening: The cover art for songs and albums somehow started becoming "corrupted", in the way that the song in the iPod "loses" its real cover art and may:
· display another cover art (from another existing song in the iPod)
· not display anything at all
If I connect the iPod to my PC and run iTunes, in the song list the real cover art is displayed.

What format are the songs in that are causing this problem?
I've found that the coverart corruption is caused by 'Non-iTunes' format MP3 files.
Converting all MP3 files to AAC format appears to fix the problem.

im trying to gather as much best practice info about ripping large quantities of my cds to mp3 using itunes. ive previously used other windows or opensource apps in the past, and the folder organization can always be counted on (but unlink itunes, they dont download cover art).
also, ive run into a few situations where a popular/recent album is unable to find cover art. is there also some sort of best practice that covers getting the highest probability of it actually finding the right cover art? (ive also had some movie soundtracks pull the wrong cover art too)

I’m not sure how "waiting" would have helped in this case. Had I not been proactive, the cover art would still be missing. Overall the service is still "buggy" IMO and users shouldn't have to wait or go through some pretzel logic to resolve problems. If it were one or even a couple of issues that’s one thing...but this did not go well on a number of levels.
I understand "early adoption" caveats, but based on numerous posts here and elsewhere, this was not a pleasant experience for a lot of folks...with many still struggling to get things back on track.
We have admittedly been spoiled by Apple's usual high standards. However with all of the issues with the rollout of iOS 5 and now iTunes Match, recent events have been very disappointing. Apple has previously set the customer experience bar very high and almost always met or surpassed it. These past couple of fairly major events felt rushed and unpolished.
I'm the first one to come to Apple's defense and will continue to do so, but this experience has soured my outlook on Apple's ability to continue to deliver at their previous levels. I hope they are able to regroup and learn from this because I truly want them to succeed and stay on top.

Cover Art Restrictions

I am trying to scan my entire CD/DVD collection into itunes using Apple Lossless. I would like to have the highest quality possible scan of cover art to attach to each of these files. Can someone tell me the limitations/restrictions that itunes 9 puts on cover art images. These would include sizes, DPI, jpeg compression, image file size, etc. Thanks in advance.

I can give the answer for iTunes 8. I am not sure if 9 has improved:
iTunes is now having artists submit their art at a minimum size of 1425 x 1425, even though what you get from iTunes is only 600 x 600. So it's a safe assumption that Apple believes that images will need to be 1425 x 1425 for some reason in the future. So you may as well be making your scans at 1425 x 1425, or heck maybe 1600 x 1600. You could probably put a billboard-sized JPG into an mp3 if you wanted to, but you may as well stay somewhere near that 1425 x 1425 point.
Regardless of what size image you embed, iTunes won't actually use your image directly. iTunes looks at your image once as it embeds that image into the songs, but it creates a 400x400 image based on that larger image for your iTune's own use. That 400x400 image is what your iTunes actually displays in coverflow, etc. -- even when your coverflow is displaying what looks like a 200x200 image, that's the 400x400 image it is using.
JPGs at maximum quality (Photoshop setting of 12) is fine. As long as the image is RGB it will be fine.
Personally I import cover art at 800x800, at a Photoshop setting of 12 or 11, but 10 is acceptable too.

MP3 - Album Art

I edited an mp3 with audacity, adjusted the volume and saved it back to my itunes lib. The album art is still in itunes, but in finder, it now just shows a quicktime generic mp3 icon. In finder almost all my music has it cover art displayed in finder.
I went into time machine and noticed in time machine, none of the art shows up in finder, and when coping the back up mp3 back to itunes the art is still gone for just that one mp3, the rest of the album still has album art showing in finder?
Any ideas? I have deleted and reloaded album art thru itunes to the mp3, it shows in itunes but not in finder??

Ok, more information and a solution but still confused. I checked the info on the mp3 file in finder and the preview showed the correct album art. But not the icon in finder. A restart of the computer fixed that. But why? Should I have just restarted finder??
