MPlayer frontends crashe

Today I noticed something strange. The SMPlayer crashed when I hit the stop button. I had to force it to close. Tried different videos but the same was happening.
Tried different frontends using MPlayer, but all do the same. smplayer-qt5-svn, umplayer, umplayer-svn, even gnome-mplayer. The problem doesn't happen if I open them from terminal.
I found this in both of the SMPlayers logs:

There was no error message in the UMPlayer's log and no log for the MPlayer.
The same is happening with mplayer-vaapi, but with that not even the playback is working.
I wasn't able to build mplayer-svn, mplayer-mt-lite-git or any other version from AUR.
Tried mpv though, but non of the frontends work with it, and MPlayer2 seems only to work with GNOME-MPlayer but it has green flashes.
I used the most recent available versions in the official repos and in AUR from all of the packages, and my system is fully up to date.
No problem with other players, VLC for example works fine (except it has other problems with the audio playback and doesn't always handle UTF-8 subtitles properly, so it's not very useful compared to SMPlayer).
Any ideas?

  • Kwin compositing + mplayer VDPAU crash

Hello everyone, I have a very specific problem with KDE and mplayer video playback.
If I'm using vdpau as video output in mplayer and I switch to fullscreen mplayer will hang if anything is drawn on top of the video output. It happens if I show the control bar in smplayer or if I open yakuake or if I receive a skype notification.
There are three things that can prevent the crash:
    - Using xv instead of vpdau (but 1080p playback becomes a pain)
    - Disable "unredirect fullscreen windows" in kwin (but it kills the performances of games)
    - Disable compositing before switching to fullscreen (that's what I'm currently doing, but it's annoying)
Is there a way to tell kwin to NOT unredirect only mplayer windows? Or any way to set up a specific rule to avoid the crashing?
    Thanks a lot!

Mmmh... maybe you can deactivate compositing only for the mplayer window. I think you can do this by right click on the mplayer window frame -> advanced -> specific settings for this program -> go to the tab on the right (don't know whats the name in english, here in german the name is "Erscheinungsbild und Korrekturen", so maybe appearance and adjustments. And there is an option to block compositing. Maybe this helps.
    Best regards!

  • Mplayer crashes on certain files

my mplayer is crashing on certain files,
and on my observations it seems to be *.mkv files only.
MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: init_audio_codec
    with -nosound:
MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: video_read_frame
even though i put mplayer's verbose message open, the only error i could find is the above.
it seems mplayer managed to crash itself in different modules, but i have no idea why.
    plz help.

  • All Player are crashing while watching DVDs

    Hi,
I have got a very strange Problem. When I want to watch a commercial DVD, vlc and mplayer are crashing in the middle of the film, or the film won't start at all. Sometimes I can watch the the first 10 min, and sometimes nothing. The same problem occurs in WinXP with PowerDVD while running in VirtualBox. So it is no problem with libdvdcss. I think that there is a problem with the driver for the DVD-Drive in Arch, because I have got no problems in Ubuntu. What fault could it be? I cannot localize that strange problem, and I don't want to go back to Ubuntu

Oh, sorry, I didn't know that this is only for Us models
Anyway, I asked some friends of mine for the advice, and they advised my to try with a new scart cable
I have bought a brand new cable, and it seems that it works good now
(Even though on the old TV, even the old cable was "good", but nevermind)
Anyway, I think I have solved the problem and it seems that the problem was connected with the cable and not the Tv
    Thanks anyway

  • New to Arch(64), with a few questions about Xorg and more

Hello and Happy New Year everyone,
I'm a user that has just recently decided to try and switch to Linux as the main OS for all things that don't concern gaming. I've been using the "server side" of Linux at work for a couple years now, but when it comes to its desktop part I consider myself not fully competent yet. Under recommendation of a friend I decided to give Arch a shot, and I can say that it really suits my philosophy on how an OS should be like.
I have a few issues I'm currently struggling with that I couldn't seem to solve by looking on my own: as they are mostly minor and shortly described, I thought about packing them up in one single thread to avoid making too many. I've used i686 as testing grounds and am now using x86_64, but most of my problems apply to both.
    Here's my hardware, for reference:
    - Intel E8400 CPU (3GHz, dual core)
    - Asus P5Q-E motherboard
    - 2 GB DDR2 800 RAM.
    - nVidia 8800GT video card with 512MB memory
    - Samsung SyncMaster 713BM flat panel, connected via DVI cable
    - Creative SBLive! 5.1 OEM card (dug up for the occasion since it has hardware mixing)
I'm using the latest Xorg from the repos, nvidia proprietary drivers, ALSA, Xfce4 + compiz-fusion, and SLIM as my login manager.
    And here are my headaches:
    - (32/64) A similar issue to the one I just mentioned: compiz-fusion doesn't seem to stick around as my window manager, even though I manually set it as per Method 2 from this wiki page. Although it did work for a while, after some time (perhaps after installing some package? but I didn't really install anything X related) it simply stopped working. To get my windows, I have to manually run fusion-icon after login.
    - (32/64) I'm using MPlayer with libass to watch my favourite anime, but sometimes MPlayer freezes up, forcing me to xkill it. Disabling ASS embedded subs yields error message 11, something about unsufficient resources. Disabling subs entirely prevents MPlayer from crashing. Oh, the errors only happen on specific points of certain videos, and all the videos work just fine under WinXP with MPC or VLC.
    - (32/64) Why do anti-aliased fonts under Linux still look so bad, even though I installed the appropriate packages suggested in the wiki? I don't mind disabling anti-aliasing entirely and just using Verdana, but is there some trick to it besides setting sub-pixel hinting under rclick->settings->user interface?
    - (32/64) My SBLive might be 5.1, but I'm only using the front connector as I use either two stereo speakers or headphones all the time. But the volume setting in applications (such as MPlayer) seems to affect the PCM meter of ALSA's mixer, putting it over 0 dB gain and generating sound distortion.
    - (64/don't know if 32 too) Why does Compiz's framerate drop so badly when I push alt-tab? I'm using the default application shifter, hardware acceleration, and there should be no reason why the framerate should drop like that (expecially considering that wobbly windows or cube rotating don't affect my performance at all). I've read around the net about very similar occourances with the task switcher, but I've found no real solution.
    - [SOLVED] (32/64) The first obstacle I came across was that I couldn't set my screen refresh any higher than 60Hz when I actually wanted 75Hz: I solved this by setting the vertical refresh to 76.0-76.0 in xorg.conf. However, for some reason this setting doesn't stick on reboot: I have to log in and manually run rclick->System->NVIDIA X Server Settings for it to apply.
    - [SOLVED] (64 only) The 32 version of Xorg was fine, but for some reason I'm not getting the correct keyset (Italian) under X, while everything works in vc. I think I read something about disabling a module called "keydev", but is this really the way to go?
    - [SOLVED] (64 only) Although I can hear sound in just about every application, the 64 bit version of Pidgin doesn't "ring" on received messages even though the associated option is enabled.
I kindly thank you in advance for your assistance: I will provide any configuration files that might be needed to help me out

    Try SMPlayer.
Ah, I'd rather not involve Qt. Besides, isn't SMPlayer simply a frontend to Mplayer (who already has GMplayer integrated into it, IIRC)?

On my monitor, from my point of view, it appears to make a difference. It's that simple
azleifel wrote:In gmplayer Preferences -> Audio -> (assuming alsa selected) -> Configure driver and change the mixer channel to something other than PCM, e.g. Master.
For all the three combos, I have "driver default" selected. The other option is "default"; I tried to manually type "Master" into the mixer channel field, but then gmplayer's windows and my Xfce taskbar started blinking, so I knew I had just "crossed streams".
Regarding NVIDIA X Server Settings, running "usr/bin/nvidia-settings --load-config-only" at login is the only way to apply the settings "automatically".
I've slapped that on my ~/.xinitrc before "exec startxfce4". Thanks in advance, going to test it now!
About the refresh and non-decorated windows issues (which *appears* to be solved after I've wiped the xfce-session cache), I've been thinking: could they somehow be related the login manager I've chosen, SLIM?
P.S. New question: is there any way to enable the ALT+num126 for ~ keyboard behaviour I'm used to under M$ environments?

  • Lock entries XI

    Hi,
my XI Frontend crashs a lot of times a day (3 or 3 times) and sometimes when I restart repository builder and try to open an item XI tells me that I'm still working (locking) it... so I think theis should be some lockflags - but I can't find them on my XI - any idea??

    Hi,
Goto Administration on your Integration Tools Start Page(http://xiserver:port/rep/start/index.jsp).
Then you see Administration of locks.
There you can Remove your locks.

  • Flash 9 content with audio crashing Mplayer

I've found that running flash with audio on Linux crashes
Mplayer. Has anyone else noticed issues with this?
We are running a playlist of sorts, consisting of flash
movies (animations, not flash video) and H.264 encoded Quicktime
Video. The flash runs as an embedded SWF and the video runs in
Mplayer... this is all done in firefox. As soon as a flash movie
with sound comes up, Mplayer goes away and no video is played until
    the browser is re-launched.
This is a unique situation, but if anyone has any advice (or
theories) on issues with flash 9 content w/audio jacking up
    Mplayer, that would be awesome.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Apple's trailer site crashes Firefox w/ mplayer plugin

Okay, this is beyond weird. Basically, I can go and watch a video in high quality or otherwise pretty much anywhere that isn't Apple's website... If I go there, Firefox just crashes without an error or explanation. This is pretty unfortunate since I view the bulk of my streaming video from there. I know some people had this issue before, but it effected all videos with them... This is just effecting this one site with me.
Running Firefox from the terminal is completely unhelpful as it provides no useful info.
I've got the latest versions of Firefox and mplayer plugin and am running KDEmod 4.2 with the qt-gtk-engine thing.
Anyone have a solution to this annoying little issue?
    Thanks!

Same problem here... I finally updated whole system yesterday (last full system upgrade was on 2011-11-26) and same problem appears. File /usr/lib/libwbclient.so.0 was not present in system, so i reinstalled package smbclient - without any effect, then reinstalled libwbclient package and requested file appears. There is no error about upgrading libwbclient in pacman.log (from yesterday system update).. How is this possible?

  • [SOLVED] Mplayer crashes system

I'm having trouble playing videos with mplayer and all guis for it. Trying to do so causes a pretty severe crash; it takes me back to the login screen! I did a test in terminal and wrote the output to a file so I can share it with you. Here is said output. Hopefully someone here can help me!
Edit: I just tested it in Parole, which, AFAIK, isn't just a wrapper for mplayer. I got a crash then as well. I can post a log if desired.

Have you tried various file-types? Oggs, flacs, mp3s, et al.?
K3fka wrote:I just tested it in Parole, which, AFAIK, isn't just a wrapper for mplayer. I got a crash then as well. I can post a log if desired.
You should change the title then.
When did this start happening? Was it after a system update by any chance? In that case you might need to try synching to a different server.

  • Mplayer and xine crash on startup

    I got a problem...
I installed mplayer and xine via pacman and everytime I try to start it the application crashes. But it's not as if that's everything, the X server restarts itself, too, and I end up at the GDM login screen. That is really annoying since it doesn't allow me to play any videos or DVDs.
Has anyone heard about this problem before? Any suggestions?

Running firefox after upgrade first time mplayer-plugin works properly. But all next launches finished with crash.
Sometimes plugin started, but controls doesn't work and CPU load about 100%, so I can only terminate it.
The same problem in Slackware http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … p?t=549302
So, I built old mplayer-plugin 3.35 and installed it. No more crashes in firefox 2.0.0.4 for me. I need to rebuilt mplayer - some libraries upgraded after pacman -Syu
Full screen mode work normally, if video output switched to 'gl' (my videocard is Intel i855G)
Bitrate (or resolution) still detect unproperly on some streams.

  • IBook G3 video skipping (slow computer msg in VLC) & crashing with mplayer

Each time I tried to play an avi file with mplayer, mplayer will start up and then crashed immediately i.e. it quitted. If I tried to open the avi file with Quicktime (I have the codec installed), Quicktime hanged. I can play the file with VLC player, but the video skipped and error messages appeared, saying that the computer is too slow. There were no other programs opened at that time.
I am running 10.4.4 with QT 7.04. I have tried to boot from an external HD (cloned from the internal HD) with the same problems. I have also reformatted the iBook HD, reinstalled Tiger and the same problem occurred. Is this a hardware issue with the iBook? Using a new user made no difference.
I have also zapped the PRAM but did not solve the problem.
What else can I try? Thanks.
    Powerbook G3/G4, Mac Mini 1.42   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Aloha Missy!
Sorry I wasn't around yesterday (believe me, I really would rather not have been on Iowa interstates in a snowstorm).
The message I believe you were getting was the one that said something like "an error has occured causing more than five frames to skip" blah blah blah. And it gives you an option to "suppress" future errors for the video, right?
If so, that's because we are running on about as lowly a machine as can be handled by the program
I like VLC because it can do where other programs on the iBook can't. But even then it needs some help. Unfortunately, the documentation I used to set up VLC was included in the installer for another application and I've since deleted the readme (heck, I readit). So, I've done the next best thing. I went through the preferences and tried to remember the few changes so I could pass them on.
One (under "interface") was to increase the verbosity from the default to either of the other numbers. I really can't remember what it does, but I do know it was recommended when the CPU was choking)
The other was under the misc. tab, and was the setting for VLC priority. For some reason mine is set to and obscenely high NEGATIVE number (like -100).
Now...you still are going to get skipping. I have a hidden dock, and if I bring it up, I get skips. If I grab the controller and drag it, I get skips...you get the idea
When you say they are AVI's on a DVD, I assume that means they are not the normal DVD type files. It might be a bit annoying to try, but could you move one to the HD and then try playing with it in the other apps?
My thought here is that the computer is using so many resources reading the files from the DVD that it is causing issues for QT, mplayer, and (to a lesser extent which is why I love it...)VLC. Try that and let us know if it stops the problem you noted.
...you said kernel panic. Is the whole "screen goes dim and a message in 10 languages" scenario playing out, or is the iBook just freaking out and shutting down the get info panel. In other words, do you need to reboot when this happens or not?

The x264 package has just been updated http://www.archlinux.org/packages/?name=x264 - mirrors may need some more time to sync (if in doubt, check the version).
    It's a similar issue to https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=130192
You can download the package directly from the mirror by clicking the 'Download From Mirror' link on the top right http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/i686/x264/ (for32-bit)
