MS Office for Mac student edition problems

I have a copy of MS Office for Mac 2003 that I purchased during my undergrad from my school. It is loaded onto an older MacBook. I just received my new iMac today and am trying to load Office to the computer. When I load the disc, it shows up on the desktop, but an installation pop-up doesn't come up. I can click on the disc on the desktop, but what comes up is a finder window with a lot of thumbnails, most of them .CAB. If anyone has any experience with this please let me know. Should I just download open office?
Note: I am not a computer expert by any means.

If they are CABs then you DO NOT have Office for Mac. CABs are only used for Windows software.

LoL another question I have come upon:
As the title suggests I am planning on getting Office for Mac... doing some price research, I've found it valued between $130-140 retail depending on where I look.
Now, I was looking at Best Buy's website (I'd prefer to buy it in person) and noticed they have it for $199.99... is this without an additional instant student rebate of some kind? If I show my student card, will I be able to get it for the price I've been seeing on the internet?

Office for Mac/Rosetta Stone problems

I have the rosetta stone application on my macbook. After I loaded Office for Mac, I can no longer access the rosetta stone ap. Anyone out there have similar problems? (I posted here because I found no other appropriate discussion.)

BTW: There was an issue about six months ago with the now withdrawn Java 6 developer preview for Tiger, which somehow managed to stop all Rosetta applications from working.
This is a different issue. Rosetta Stone is an actual application for learning languages on your Mac (or PC). It's not related to Apple's "Rosetta" technology that allows Intel-based Macs to run PowerPC applications.

MS Word for Mac does not yet support Arabic (or various other scripts). You should let MS know that you want that.
I have had reports, however, that PowerPoint and Entourage in MS Office 2008 will do correct Arabic. Could you confirm that for me?
For Arabic the best Mac word processor is Mellel. Others are TextEdit, Nisus Writer, iText Pro, NeoOffice, OpenOffice, StarOffice.

I am running Os X Lion with Home and student office for Mac. My MS Outlook Mail programme has picked up a virus I think. The programme is sending out multiple mails to addresses that I have no knowledge of.

My Mac is running Lion OS X 10.7.5 and I have MS Office for Mac (Student and Home) installed.
A couple of days ago I noticed 14 emails in my inbox and others in Spam and Junk with a header explaining that these mails are undeliverable; they are mail addressees that I have never heard of.
I have installed and run (I think correctly), ClamXav but it is still happenning.
How can I rectify / rid my Mac / mail programme of this problem?

Check your "Sent Mail" folder to see if any of those messages were sent from it. If not then they just spoofed your address. If any are found there then your account was hacked (almost certainly on your ISP's mail server) and you need to change password and/or e-mail address.

I have the Office for Mac 2008 home and student edition. I need to get a version called the Office for Mac 2008 Standard. Searching the web and I don’t see anything like that…I need this so exchange will work on my Mac…

Well, that's assuming that the prices stay the same.
Anyway, I never realized that Office for Mac was $400! I am so glad I had a copy already from a previous ibook I got on ebay. I never could have imagined that you could buy two copies of student and teacher edition for $100 less than one copy of the standard edition!

I upgraded my Mac from OSX 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard and then to Mountain Lion 10.8.2. I did have Microsoft Office for Mac 2004 in my applications and now get a message "can't open Office because Power PC applications are no longer supported."

Microsoft Office for Mac questions

Hi,
I've just bought Microsoft Office for Mac (student teacher version) for my new 20" iMac. I seem to remember reading somewhere that I need to uninstall the test version that comes with the iMac before installing the "real" software.
Is this true, & if so, how do I do it?
Does it install fairly easily or is it problematical?
Will it be available to the 4 user a/c's we have set up (i.e. not just the main a/c) or do I have to do anything to achieve this?

In the MS Office folder is a folder named Addtional Tools. Inside that folder is the uninstaller. You must uninstall the Trial version (if you have installed it) before installing the normal version of Office. If you have never installed the Trial version then simply drag the entire Trial folder to the Trash and delete it. Then install your normal version of Office.
Any application installed in the Applications folder is available to any user unless specifically restricted in the account.

Problem with MS Office for Macs, can someone please help?

I am using MS Office for Macs 2011 on my new MBA, and have encountered a pretty annoying issue when I transfered all my Excel, Word & PP documents from my old Sony PC. When I open an Excel spreadsheet for example, the computer also opens every single OTHER speadsheet. Since I have over 30 Excel documents, this obviously becomes very annoying and time-consuming! The same thing happens when I try to open a Word or PP document. Is there some setting that I need to change to have only the document I actually want to open? All the documents were created on older versions of MS Office, but I doubt this is the problem. Can someone help please? Thanks!

You could also try deleting the microsoft preference files, incase something has gone amiss there.
Make sure all Office application are quit fully
Go to User/[unername]/Library/Preferences
Look for
com.microsoft.Excel.plist
com.microsoft.office.plist
com.microsoft.Word.plist
com.microsoft.Powerpoint.plist
Outlook is there too, so if it is causing you issues, you can delete them too
Next time you open your office applications, the new prefernce files are created. Any particular preferences that you had set will of course need to be reset as they are now all new (default) again.
Another thing to check is in you System Preferences - General
Do you have the 'close windows when quitting an application' checked? if not, checking it may fix the issue.

Is anyone else having problems with Office for Mac and Lion?

Since installing Lion 10.7.1 on a macbook pro 2.53 Ghz 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 I have had no end of problems. Both Excel and Word hang, crash and saving an Excel file is a pain. A 12mb spread sheet just took 4 minutes to save! I have MS Office for Mac 2011 version 14.1.3.
Another problem that may not be related to Office is that opening Finder is so slow and most of the time it takes a minute to display folders in Desktop or Documents.
Any suggestions would be welcome .. I regret installing Lion .. I had no problems with Snow Leopard!

Problems with Office for Mac 2011 Outlook

So I've BYOD with my work, but having difficulty in accessing my Outlook email on the work's server. I keep getting the following pop-up for the mail stating that Outlook has redirected to the server (name of server here) to get new settings for your account (name of email account here). Do you want to allow this server to configure your settings? I havce the option of to Deny or Allow, both of which have been tried. The pop-up still pops-up no matter.
What our PC-oriented tech department has discovered is that it is being routed to an incorrect address. They have no idea where that address resides and we need to figure out how to insert the correct address into the correct place within the software.
Can anyone help me?

Then that would be a question for Microsoft' and their forums. It's up to Microsoft to maintain compatibility with the OS, not vice versa.
when Lion came out, there were others who had some issues wtih Outlook
Lots of sofware has issues if not updated to be compatible with new operating systems.
I was hoping someone who got things right might see this and response.
This has nothing to do with Outlook..it's running as it should. The problem is that the autodiscover feature on your company's exchange server is not configured properly and is telling Outlook to point to that incorrect address. It's up to them to fix the autodiscover settings on the exchange server.

unfortunately - you can not. you can't even buy outlook by itself at microsoft's own website.
does it have to be outlook? maybe you can get away with using something else that's outlook compatible.
how about trying Thunderbird for Mac OS?
or maybe you can call apple and let them know you purchase the wrong version - they might give you a break and just pay the difference for the home and business version.

For starters, make sure to Check for Updates on any of the Help menus, and make sure the product has all the latest patches. MS did come out with a patch addressing the display issues on Retina Macs. Latest patchlevel is 14.3.2.
We are talking about Office:Mac 2011, right?
