MS Office Problems

After Loading Mac OS 10.7 (Lion) Microsoft Office applications (word, powerpoint, excel) stoped working.  The error displayed is "Power PC applications are no longer supported."  Is there a fix rr am I moving on to another productivity application suite?

This is now the 2001th thread on this subject today.  Why don't you try the search button in the top right corner?  Or, even just look down the list of threads.
Office 2004 or earlier will not work, as all support for PowerPC/Rosetta apps has gone from Lion.
You'll have to upgrade your Office to 2011.

  • Changing homedirectories from AFP to NFS cures all Office Problems?

    Hi all,
well a lot of us do have a lot of problmes using Microsoft Office. New files can't be copied to the server (with unknown error -50), saving files fail because of wired netwrok errors or full disks, duplicating files cause complete file loss (the copy and the oridignal file itself), wordfiles seem to be locked (should i make a copy?) trying to open them, over and over there are Word Work Files and uncountable nummers auf Autorecovery files with zero bytes, Word bothering you to many files are open (with not a single file opend) ...
Well this all seems to be a problem of office combined with homedirectory shared through AFP. A Friend of mine told me, that he has no problems with office. The only difference betwenn his infrastructure and mine is, that he uses NFS for sharing homedirectories.
    So i did the Following:
I created a new sharepoint for homedirectories and shared it through NFS. Created a new user, using this sharepoint for his homedirectory. Then i worked with the NFS-User on an AFP-sharepoint (like creating a Word file, doing changes and saving it). Then i worked on the same document with an user thats homedirectory is shared through AFP. Everytime i did a change to the document and saved it, a new Word Work File was created next to the original file. After several iterations with the AFP-user there error that the document is allready opend came up...
So my first findings comparing NFS users with AFP users is, that the problems using Office are completely gone when using NFS for homedirectories.
Now the questions for me are:
1.) is anybody there that can approve my findings?
2.) are there any reasons not to use NFS for homedirectories?
3.) which protocol do you use for sharing homedirectories?
4.) what would be the smartest way to change / move APF shared homedirecties to NFS?
I allready did the following to change an AFP shared homedirectory to NFS:
    - Set the users home dir from /Users/ to none (in Workgroup Manager)
    - as root via terminal mv /Users/myuser /NFSUsers/
    - in Workgroupmanager set the useres homedir from none to /NFSUsers/
This worked well (for a short look on it). The only problem was, that the subfolders in the sidebar of the Finder window did not work, and had to be reseted.
    Any other suggestions?
    Greetings
    MacSEK

    Hello,
Today a friend reported this problem to me. This problem was only to Word, to Excel no.
In my case the guilty was the add-in PDFCOMPLETE in WORD 2013.
I saw it in programs list on Control Panel. It belong to PDF Complete, Inc.
They have a HP computer. When I uninstalled this add-in from programs list the problem solved !
I did that today. Now they are able to change language and also to put tone on Greek vowels.
When I uninstalled the PDFCOMPLETE I saw on uninstallation window the HP icon !
It seems a file related with HP programs created the problem.

  • Microsoft Office problems on Macbook.

I bought Office for Mac a few years back and used it on both my iMac and my Macbook. I used my final download on my friends new Macbook, and she's been having problems with it.
Her Microsoft word (for example) doesn't have a "file" option up at the top. It's missing the ability to save documents where you want them/name them ect.
I don't know what else is missing yet, but what should I do to fix this?

Office forums are available on Microsoft's website at http://www.officeformac.com/productforums

  • Microsoft Office Problem

After getting a new IMac, we migrated all our files and software over from our old mac. Unfortunately, we had the most recent version of microsoft office on there. I am experiencing problems now opening up word or excel files now as the computer seems to be trying to open up these files with the trial version that came with the computer (which has ended now), not the licensed version that is also on the computer. I have to first open up word, and then only can I click on the file to open up properly. How can I fix this problem? I need to get rid of the trial office software version. Thanks for any suggestions.

Open the MS Ofice Trial folder.
Run the Installer and select Uninstall

  • Microsoft office problem on MacBook Air

I had Microsoft Office installed when I bought my new MacBook Air. First time I used PowerPoint it froze when I tried to access Clip Art browser.  A little coloured spinning dot came up and continued for ages and I had to reboot several times.  I brought it back to retailer and they rang Apple support who say it is a Microsoft problem.  I have been fobbed off the retailer even though they installed it. I paid a lot of money for this and am very unhappy that nobody can help me.  Has anyone else had this problem?

    Hi Marlane1,
Yes, I am actually from Australia, so I try to use American numbers and laws to help people, as America would have a substantial majority of users on this site.
I agree that the Company that you bought it from needs to take responsibility and give you a refund.
This website states your consumer rights, they are pretty much identical from ACCC (Aus version) FTC (Us version). Yours would come under a faulty good and under your law, they must give you a refund. Then using this refund purchase it from Apple Store closest to you.
Apple cannot do much as it is not downloaded from them or the App store however, if you take the laptop in, they might have a look? Depends on how happy they are!!
Good Luck and remember your consumer rights: https://www.gov.uk/consumer-protection-rights
Anything that a sales person says to you, can be used as a guarantee and therefore you can say that you asked them to do it for the reason of issues, they did that therefore as they did this they have to fix or replace.

  • Lion-MS Office Problems?

I have purchased Lion but see some problems with MS Office.  Should I wait?
    Thanks for any advise...

Mac Office 2008 should work fine as long as it's already installed when you upgrade to Lion. From what I read, its installer requires Rosetta and will not run in Lion.

  • Microsoft Office problems with Shared USB Disk

I am having problems writing files to USB drives shared off of a Airport Extreme Base Station. The error message from any of the Microsoft Office products would indicate a write protection issue. This happens if I try to save a file I open on the shared drive or if I try to save a new file. No problems from the finder. Also, this only happens for the wireless users, the computer connected through the ethernet connection has no issues. I got in through the command line and checked the user id and permissions and no issue I can see.
    Any ideas?

  • Toshiba Bluetooth Stack software - Microsoft Office - Problems

    :_| Dear all,
I use a Bluetooth USB dongle to transfer data between my PC and my cellular.
Since installing the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack software (First I used the 5.0 and later upgrading to the latest 6.10.10) I'm having problems with Microsoft Office.
When I try to double click any office document (Word Excel etc.) It takes almost 30 seconds for the Word software to open and then additinal 30 seconds for the office document to open in the software -> almost 60 seconds!!
But when I'm opening the office software from the Strat-Programs-Microsoft Word menu it is opened in nearly 2 seconds!! Nevertheless, while the office is _opened_:
    1. When opening a document threw the File-Open menu it again takes 30 seconds for the document to open.
    2. When trying to open any office document (while the office is open) threw the Windows Explorer it again takes 30 seconds.
Now, I'm writing in Toshiba forum because when I cancel the Bluetooth manager from the _msconfig_ utility and restart, again the PC and Office is working percfectly.
    Please help
    PS
I'm using Windows XP Home SP3

    Dear sir,
Thank you so much for your answer.
However, I'm alredy using the latest Nokia PC Suite which is 7.0.9.2
What do you think now? how can I progress?
Is it the Toshiba software? Is it Nokia software?
    Thanks,
    Danny
    PS
Of course my Windows XP Home is fully "Windows Update".

  • Adobe reader - Open Office problem

I get the following error when I boot my computer:
Adobe Reader could not open 'Openoffice.org.3.2.lnk disabled' because it is either not supported or because the file has been damaged.
I have completely uninstalled openoffice including deleting the openoffice user data in C: > Users > owner > appdata >roaming
and re-insatalled openoffice. The error persits.
I have Abobe reader 9.4.0 on Win Vista Ultimate 64 bit sp2. The openoffice is 3.2.1
Does anyone have a suggestion to fix this?
    Thanks
    Frank C

I found two copies of the file:  openoffice.org.3.2.lnk disabled here C:\Users\Charlotte\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs  and here C:\Users\Charlotte\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows  One was dated Sept. 09 and the other was current. I deleted both files  and the problem was resolved. I probably would have been successful had I only deleted the oldest file. The file was recreated upon open of opennoffice. Perhaps this may help others.

  • Office Problems with new 10.9.2 upgrade on MacBook

Upgraded my MacBook to 10.9.2 and now Office 2004 would run because PowerPC apps are no longer supported.  Is there a patch? Can I downgrade? I don't want to buy a new office because of this crappy upgrade, an upgrade I really don't need.

You could try iWorks (pages, etc) as an affordable alternative that
would work in Mavericks OS X 10.9.2; or see if one of the office-
like applications, such as LibreOffice, NeoOffice, etc may work..
Some of those being open source, are low-cost or free. They are
not an exact match for Office documents, but can come close.
Another path would be to read up on how to run an older OS X
in your computer in a virtualisation mode (Parallels, VMWare?)
then install Snow Leopard 10.5(.8) from a DVD. This may or
may not require a server version of Snow Leopard. Then be
sure this older OS X has 'rosetta' enabled to use PPC apps.
A different route would be to get a second older Mac, perhaps
a vintage MacBook 13-inch, and get $20 retail SnowLeopard
DVD, and so perhaps for as little as $400. you could do that.
I see rebuilt MacBooks with an OS X for about that much
from reliable companies whose business is repairing Macs.
{PS: if you have an external HDD of faster spin rate or an SSD
with Thunderbolt connections, perhaps a fresh install of the
older OS X so you can use it that way. Short of a partition in
a larger internal hard disk drive, that won't mess with the 10.9.
    If the computer supports FW800 or USB3.0 it may work OK.}
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Outlook 2013 with Exchange 2007 - out of office problem

We are using outlook 2013 with Exchange 2007. When users select their out of office it will work fine for the first day, however there after the Out of Office replies stop working. Out of Office is set correctly within Outlook, but what we have found
is that if the user opens Outlook the Out of Office starts to work again. Also when the user opens Outlook it takes around two minutes before it registers that Out of Office is on.
    Any Ideas?

    Hi,
How do you configure your OOF? From standard OOF wizard or define an automatic reply template from Rule wizard?
If you are using a template, Outlook must be running for the Rules Wizard to automatically reply. Please refer to the Note in the following KB:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311107
If it is configured by using standard Out of Office assistance in File > Automatic Replies, please remove OOF settings in Outlook and set it from OWA 2007, then check whether the issue can be reproduced.

  • Hyperion SmartView for office problem

    Hi,
I install hyperion hmf smartview for office 9.2.0.3.0.005 whith the admin right, I used it and can remove it from add in in excel 2003 sp3, but recentely we remove the admin right.
So now I can use it but I cant remove it from the add in in exel, that cause some conflict with other add in
    Solution ??
We have Windows XP SP3 and Office pro 2003 SP3.
    Thanks

Not a pretty solution, but I have had users manually remove the add in files from the Program directory on the hard drive and then save them on their desktop for when they want to use it again.
I think I have read that the newer version has less trouble with excel functions.
