MS OneDrive comparing to Filr/iFolder

Hi!
Just curious about any info comparing Novell Filr/iFolder against MS OneDrive? Well, yes, probably is OneDrive more expensive, but those who make decisions do not like to talk about this.
More thanks, Alar.

Well of course to start with if you want to use OneDrive you have to
move your files into OneDrive for O365, or for the on-premise version
you have to move everything into SharePoint. That can be a huge pain
if you have years worth of data. Of course with Filr you don't move
anything anywhere.
Next, with OneDrive for Business as a part of O365, the files you sync
back down aren't what you synced up originally. They are modified by
Microsoft.
http://www.myce.com/news/microsoft-o...t-syncs-71168/
In the past Microsoft mainly supported Windows Phone / Windows tablets
with OneDrive. I believe they've since add Android/iOS support but I
don't believe it's as full-features as with Windows devices. Of course
with Filr we equally support Android/iOS/Windows Phone/BB10. I also
don't know if there's a OneDrive client for OS X, but again Filr does.
Lastly, OneDrive is really geared towards offline file access. It's
not the full collaborative/sharing environment that Filr is.

  • Office 365 (Word) and Onedrive comparability issue

I have successfully used MS Mesh / Skydrive /
OneDrive for years to sync my documents/PDFs folder between my desktop, laptop, phone, and iPad.  A month or so ago I purchased Office 365 and it caused all sorts of havoc in my Onedrive folder.  The thrust of the issue seems to
involve Office 365 and Skydrive getting in the way of each other while trying to keep the documents up to date.  As skydrive tries to upload changes to a folder with Docs in it, a few of the documents will not update (leaving the red mark on the document
icon instead of the blue check-mark showing it is up-to-date).  Office 365 share point will also give a list of documents that it was unable to sync (the list matches the trouble files in Skydrive).  Once this error hits a file, all of the content
for the document is zero'ed out (and the file size decreases to 0 KB).  Thankfully, thus far this has only caused me to lose data from old, unimportant files.  This morning I lost data from an important file, but I had a backup of it saved in my
    email.
I've tried a bit of my own trouble shooting.  At first I thought that the issue revolve around documents created in earlier editions of Word, so I created a folder in my Onedrive that was populated only with Office 365 Word documents, but this
    did not resolve the issue.
It seems as if this problem affects documents randomly.
My hunch is that it occurs when Office 365's sharepoint tries to update a file at the same time Onedrive is updating the file.
I also use the iPad app PDF expert to access my skydrive folder on the iPad (because I store PDF's in the folders as well), but I don't believe it to be the issue because: (1) it worked perfectly fine before I installed 365, and (2) the problem
with Onedrive and Office 365 persisted after I disabled PDF Expert's sync with the Onedrive.
Note: Office 365 worked fine until I used it to upgrade the version of Office installed on my computer.
I do not want to be forced to keep my Word documents separate from my Onedrive folder as I store numerous non-Word documents in my Onedrive folder as well and need to save them in folders with Word docs.
    Thank you.

    The solution is very simple.
You have to install Microsoft OneDrive from the Mac AppStore. It synchronizes your OneDrive folders to the Mac. Afterwards, you usually find a OneDrive folder in your Home folder. From there, you can access all files as usual. If you change any file, it will be synchronized in both ways (Mac to OneDrive, OneDrive to Mac).
I use this on a daily basis and have no problems with it.
    Have a nice day!

  • Compare Date Modified on OneDrive and LocalStorageFile

I can't find an easy way to compare two files
When uploading (CreateBackgroundUploadAsync) file from LocalStorage to Onedrive the Modified Date kind of appearing is changed since it become a place holder and not the real file.
How can I compare Date Modified (updated_time is NOT the real Modifed Date) and also I would not like to download file back to either the phone or Desktop as it good be lengthy.
I should only download/upload files which are different. Basically just to synchronize files.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Based on my research, the Date Modified changed could be due to corrupt Update Sequence Number Journal. The USN Journal is a feature of NTFS which maintains a record of changes made to the volume.
You could try to refer to article below to check if it could resolve the issue.

  • Office 2013 applications crash when opening/saving files in OneDrive for Business folder

    My setup:
    Windows 7 64-bit
    Office 2013 Professional
OneDrive for Business (connected to Office 365)
    Issue Description:
    Example 1:
    1.  I create a file in OneDrive for Business using the appropriate web app (Excel web app, for example).
    2.  I edit the file in the web app, I save the file in my OneDrive for Business
    3.  I sync OneDrive for Business with it's local folder
    4.  Now I open the folder in Windows Explorer and double-click the Excel file
    5.  Excel splash screen shows up for a bit, and then Excel crashes
    Example 2:
    1.  I open Word on my Windows 7 laptop
    2.  I start from a blank document and create some content in the document
    3.  I use the Save As option under the File menu to save the file to my local OneDrive for Business folder
    4.  As soon as I click the Save button on the dialog, Word crashes
The same happens with all the Office applications.
    Important Note:
If I run the above examples with Excel/Word in SAFE mode, there is absolutely no issue.
What have I done so far?
    1.  I have made sure that the DisplayLink driver is the latest version from the manufacturer
    2.  There is no bluetooth send-to add-in in any of the Office applications
    3.  No add-ins are enabled in any of the Office applications (not sure if there are "stealth" ones that are not visible in the Options/Add-Ins dialog?)
Any assistance with this would be much appreciated.
    JeHarry

    Hi JeHarry,
Because I didn't have Windows 7, I did a test with Windows 8.1 based on your description. However, in my testing, everything worked well.
Please repair your Office under Control Panel, compare the result.
This forum is for SharePoint On-premise, as your issue is about Office 365, I suggest you create a new thread on Office 365 forum, more experts will assist you with Office 365.

  • Filr not displaying or maybe syncing existing files

    Hi,
We are using Filr 1.0.1.65 in a large deployment. We have all of our users in Active Directory with files stored on Windows Server 2012.
Users and groups have all imported without any issues, but when they login to Filr (web or desktop client) none of their preexisting files or folders are displayed.
Interestingly they are able to create a folders with the Filr web interface, or the desktop client and the folder will appear on the windows file server in the user's home directory as expected. If they use windows explorer and copy files into the folder that was created with Filr, they will eventually show up in the Web, Desktop, and Mobile client.
Basically no one is able to see any of their preexisting files located at the root level of their folder. I have checked the root folder permissions, filr proxy user, and every thing looks good I even compared the root folder permissions with the folders created with Filr. I have checked this with multiple users and have observed the same functionality.
I have considered just telling them to create a folder specifically for Filr and then copy all of the data they want to sync into that, but I'm not sure how well received that would be.
I have taken a look at TID 7013327 but I don't feel this applies here.
Here are some log errors that get written to famtd.log everytime you attempt to view the root of the user directory in Filr.

    Any thought or suggestions appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Cy.

As a follow up I did install Hot Patch 1 as listed in TID 7013327 and that has resolved the issue. I don't really know what the problem was as there is no %20 in the UNC path, but hey it works and I have other issues to deal with. So if you're having some sort of similar sync issue I'd say go ahead and install the patch, it only took about 15 minutes.
    Thanks,
    Cy.

  • Opportunities with OneDrive Pro

    Hello,
I have a few questions and hope that someone can help me with this:
How user administration works, and can I connect OneDrive Pro (for Business) to active directory? We can connect it with mobile devices?
How is it with storage? Is it everything in cloud or we need to have sql server?
Can OneDrive Pro repleace home/public folders?
What are advantages with onodrive pro (talking here about storage) if we compare it with home folders?

OneDrive for Business does use Active Directory credentials by virtue of requiring SharePoint 2013. There are OneDrive clients for Windows Phone, iOS, and Android, though if I recall correctly, the iOS and Android versions can only connect to Office 365.
OneDrive for Business either uses SharePoint Online (Office 365) or SharePoint on-premises for the data that it pulls (which uses SQL Server on the back end). Yes, it can replace home/public folders, depending on the content you hold there (SharePoint has
a limit of 2GB per file).
I think the advantages are more featureful file management and having your documents available from everywhere, unlike home folders which are often only available when you're on the network or VPN'ed in.

    Hi all,
may be someone else experienced this:
For testing purposes i installed Filr Release 1.1.0.407 in a Fusion 7.1 VM without any error messages. The only difference compared to the default VM settings is, that i limited the RAM size to 2,5 GB (default 8 GB).
After finishing the initial conficuration in the management portal i tried to configure the site, user source and so on but found ,that the applience isn't listening on port 8443...
Currently i'm unable to find any log entry where i can find the reason that port 8443 isn't bound. Can somebody help?

Once you've gone through the initial config, the Tomcat stuff on port
8443 should come up automatically. I wonder if the lowered RAM setting
is causing a problem. Try increasing to 4GB and see if that makes a
    difference.

  • Cannot "Save As" any Office 365 Pro Plus files e.g ppt to my OneDrive for Business folder

Hi, I am unable to save any Office 365 ProPlus files to my OneDrive for Business.
When I am in the document, I select File | Save As, browse to my OneDrive for Business folder and Click Save. I get the error
"This file cannot be saved to this location because there is no connection to the server. Check your network and try again."
I can drag and drop the file into OneDrive using Windows Explorer and my OneDrive is Synchronizing files OK. This is happening to my collegue as well. Any ideas on why Save As does not work and how to reslve it?

    Hi,
Based on the error message, it seems that the connection between the OneDrive for Business folder and the library in Office 365 site does not connected due to some reasons.
I recommend to click the OneDrive for Business button and click Sync Now to reconnect the folder with the site.
And then check the status of the OneDrive for Business folder to see if the sync is OK.
After that, use Save As to save the documents to the OneDrive for Business folder and compare the results.
If above cannot help, I recommend to clear the OneDrive for Business cache and re-sync the library.

  • Comparing 2 sheets in Vlook up

    Hi
I am running report where I am comparing data from  last month to current month and want to see
1)if any changes happen and  where?
    2) if a new account is in old sheet(Last month) not in new sheet(current) how can i identify that?
    3) there are multiple account with same name so if I am using vlookup its copying the first value to the rest
    any suggestions to do above?

    Hi,
If we want to compare the data with two similar column/table/sheet, we can use both of formula and VBA code.
    Compare column sample:
    =IF(ISERROR(MATCH(A2,$C$1:$C$5,0)),"",A2)
    Compare table sample:
    =COUNTIFS(Table2[GivenName],[@GivenName],Table2[StreetAddress],[@StreetAddress],Table2[City],[@City])>0
This is how the formula looks like with cell references:
    =COUNTIFS(Sheet2!$B$3:$B$17, Sheet1!$B3, Sheet2!$C$3:$C$17, Sheet1!$C3, Sheet2!$D$3:$D$17, Sheet1!$D3)>0
I have uploaded the sample to OneDrive, we can refer to:

  • IFolder for NSS home directories?

    Hello everyone,
We have Netware installed now, we are going to migrate to OES. We are using NCP and Netstorage only. I want to install iFolder services with the new servers. Is there any possibility to point iFolder to use existing users home direstories located on NSS volume? I see, that iFolder make new empty folder for every user. This is not applicable in our network. Or is there another way, how to synchronize files in existing users home direstories like iFolder, Dropbox etc?

No it's not possible for iFolder to use existing home directories. This
is by design and partly due to possible encryption issues.
One current alternative is to use NetStorage that provides a web-based
interface (plus WebDAV access) to home directories although that doesn't
offer a synchronisation service. Coming soon is Novell's new Filr
solution which combines elements of iFolder and NetStorage with
Dropbox-like functionality into an enterprise-ready product.

  • Get the values from a table comparing fields of different data types

    Hi Experts,
I want to fetch AFVC-AUFPL and AFVC- APLZL by passing WBS element from a ztable.
    select aufpl aplzl

      into TABLE gt_afvc
      FOR ALL ENTRIES IN gt_boq
      where projn = gt_boq-posid.
    AFVC-PROJN - NUMC 8  (WBC ELEMENT)
    ZTABLE-POSID - CHAR24 (WBC ELEMENT)
How to get aufpl and aplzl by comparing those 2?
    Regards
    Mani

WBS element does have an conversion routine at the domain level. So sometimes you work with one format (8 digits) and sometimes with 24 digits.
    You use FMs
    CONVERSION_EXIT_ABPSP_INPUT
    CONVERSION_EXIT_ABPSP_OUTPUT
to convert between values. Do your conversion before your select and do not forget to use a large enough data element for the field, which gets the 24-digits long value of the field.

Since installing LTR 5.4, which I've now upgraded to 5.6, I've encountered repeated slowness and malfunctions in operations, especially when using the Compare View function and the Tab key to open and close the right and left side panels.  Such problems never arose during two years of using LTR-4 and nothing else has changed on my computer.  I have a pretty simple system with only a few plug-ins, which are usually not in operation.  I have 12GB of RAM in my Windows 7 PC.  I could illustrate these problems with screen shots if you would tell me how to submit screen shots.  Otherwise I will try to describe the problems in words.
The problem is clearly cumulative, growing worse as usage time passes.  Compare View feature gradually slows down and eventually seems to choke as my work session proceeds. If I Exit LTR and re-enter and start all over, things will work normally for maybe 30 minutes, but then the Compare View feature begins to become very slow to respond.   In a recent example with my screen full of thumbnails in Library mode I highlighted two images to compare. LTR started to open the Compare View screen by first having the top row of thumbnails disappear to be replaced by the "SELECT" and "CANDIDATE" words in their spaces  (but no images), but Compare View never succeeded in gaining control of the screen. After some seconds the top row of thumbnails reasserted its position and the Compare View windows disappeared. But LTR kept trying to bring them back. Again the top row of thumbnails would go away, Select and candidate would reappear, try again, and give up. This went on for at least 2-3 minutes before I tried to choose File and Exit, but even that did not initially want to respond. It doesn't like to accept other commands when it's trying to open Compare View. Finally it allowed me to exit.
To experiment I created a new catalog of 1100 images.  After 30-40 minutes, the Compare View function began to operate very slowly. With left and right side panels visible and two thumbnails highlighted, hitting Compare View can take half a minute before the two mid-size  images open in their respective SELECT and CANDIDATE windows. When the side panels are open and two images are in the Select/Candidate spaces, hitting the Tab button to close the side panels produces a very delayed response--25-30 seconds to close them, a few more seconds to enlarge the two images to full size. To reverse the process (i.e., to recall the two side panels), hitting Tab would make the two sides of the screen go black for up to a minute, with no words visible. Eventually the info fields in the panels would open up.
I also created a new user account and imported a folder of 160 images. After half an hour Compare View began mis-placing data.  (I have a screen shot to show this.)  CANDIDATE appears on the left side of SELECT, whereas it should be on the right. The accompanying camera exposure data appears almost entirely to the left of the mid-screen dividing line. Although the Candidate and Select headings were transposed, the image exposure data was not, but the data for the image on the right was almost entirely to the left of the line dividing the screen in two.
Gurus in The Lightroom Forum have examined Task Manager data showing Processes running and Performance indicators and they see nothing wrong.  I could also send screen shots of this data.
At this point, the only way I can process my images is to work 30-40 minutes and then shut down everything, exit, and re-start LTR.  This is not normal.  I hope you can find the cause, and then the solution.  If you would like to see my screen shots, tell me how to submit them.
