MS Project 2013 Calendar permissions

I am looking to find a way for Project managers to edit the calendar for a particular project (for example, adding a few Saturday workdays that would not be on the company default calendar).  from what i can tell though, the PM needs to have admin level
access to create or modify a calendar.
what is the best way to go about this?  I saw that there was resource calendars as well as task specific calendars, but I was looking for something a little more generic
hope this makes sense, thanks for the help

Hi,
You don't have to grant all admin permissions to allow Project Managers to update enterprise calendar.
You could just grant to the project manager security group under the server settings the "manage enterprise calendars" permission so they'll be able to add exceptions to ANY enterprise calendars. Note that it can be dangerous since they'll have
access to all enterprise calendars.
Hope this helps,

  • Set Exchange 2013 calendar permissions with Outlook 2007

    Hi,
I have a new install of Exchange 2013 with ~30 Win 7, Office 2007 clients. Setting permissions on calendars doesn't work properly from Outlook 2007 (a known MS issue). Does anyone know if there is a fix or work around to assign permissions to the calendar?
i.e. where you right click the Calendar folder and set different levels of permission. There is a 'permission' option in OWA but this doesnt appear to work for calendars.
I have tried Outlook 2013 and that works ok.  Is there alternate way to save having to move to Outlook 2013?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
The above issue occurs because of a limitation in how Exchange Server 2013 set Free/Busy permissions. The workaround is to use OWA to set up calendar permissions.
Here is a helpful article about setting up calendar permissions in OWA for your reference.

  • Outlook 2013 calendar permissions issue

Hi,So I've been bashing my head on something for a couple of days now and I need your help.We migrated from Exchange 2007 to 2013 on premise in the last couple of weeks and we now have some issue with some of the shared calendars. So the problem is, I gave full access rights to a mailbox to someone else and also gave that same person Owner permission on the shared calendar. In OWA, everything is ok, I can see all the details, edit everything, I even see the events colors.BUT in Outlook 2013, it's another story.I only see the details of the event without being able to modify and/or add anything. Here's what I tried so far :Disable Outlook cached mode - NopDeleted/recreated Outlook profile - NopDeleted all permissions for that user and recreated it - NopRemoving full access permissions and restoring them - NopUpdating Exchange 2013 to CU 8...

  • Calendar permissions keep reverting Exchange 2013

I am getting a strange problem on my Exchange 2013, this has been migrated from a 2007 Exchange.
When a new account is made in ECP we are having issues with setting calendar permissions afterwards, we can make another user have editor permissions but it reverts back to limited after. I have used power shell to set permissions but nothing stays
Any help would be very appreciated
    Thanks
    Nick

    Hi Nick,
Please refer to DareDevil's suggestion to add Editor permission for this user:
Add-MailboxFolderPermission -Identity UserA:\Calendar -User UserB -AccessRights Editor
Then we can run the following command in EMS to check the permission:
    Get-MailboxFolderPermission -Identity UserA:\Calendar | FL

  • Unable to Open Project Site Access Denied Issue Project 2013

This issue is happening to select projects and select project managers, they can view certain project sites but receive the error on other projects.  After some extensive testing
it looks like if the PM is the owner of the project plan they are not getting added to any of the synced groups for the project site.  I can change the project owner to any another PM and it processes correctly and adds them to the PM synced group on
the Project site.  As soon as I make the original PM the Project plan owner again the previous PM gets removed from the PM synced group and added to the Team member synced group, the way its supposed to work.  However the PM with the problem never
gets added to any group.  I have to manually add them to the non-synced Owner group on the project site so they don't get removed from the synced PM group the next time the sync runs at midnight.
As I stated it is happening on select project plans and select PMs.  I have tried replublishing the project plan via Project professional and the web and the results are the same.
If I create a new project plan and assign one of the PMs with the issue to the plan everything works correctly.  We noticed the issue a few weeks ago; most of the plans with the issue are several months to a year old so they were working correctly until
recently.  They had also made PM owner changes prior to the issue on most of those plans and everything worked correctly.
If anyone is experiencing this issue and has a fix please let me know.  I am trying not to open an MS support ticket if possible.
    Frank Miranda Florida Hospital MIS

I believe I've found the fix for this issue.  After opening a ticket with MS support and not getting anywhere with this issue I decided to do an in-depth review of all the Project and SharePoint 2013 CU's starting with December 2013 to September 2014.
To my amazement buried inside the July 2014 CU was a hotfix for this issue described almost word for word. (I will list all the relevant KB's at the end)  I contacted my support engineer inquiring about this hotfix and he stated it wasn't relevant because
the "Synchronize Project Web App permissions to Project Site" was not failing or even generating any warnings in our Prod or Test environments.  I stated that is not always an indicator as ULS doesn't always catch all relevant errors.
I informed him that I also found a second hotfix pertaining to the same issue released August 2014, apparently the first hotfix in July didn't totally resolve the issue and a second hotfix was released.  He was adamant that this would not resolve
our issue and he requested or production databases because he was unable to replicate the issue in his test environment.  The reason, you may wonder, is because he was at a higher patch level that our farm.... Obviously!  His farm had the most current
CU which included the hotfixes from July and August.  Apparently he didn't see the flaw in his logic.
I decided to install the September CU on our test farm. Low and behold that fixed the problem, even though MS support stated the hotfix was not relevant to our issue.  I learned a long time ago to take MS support comments as suggestions instead
of gospel truth, this isn't the first time they have confidently given me erroneous information.
We are currently doing further testing to verify that this CU didn't break something else.  Unfortunately these rollups are not GA and Microsoft is very clear that you should only install them if the hotfixes pertain directly to your issue.
Finding the hotfixes was a chore as Microsoft loves to create multiple KB's for the same thing and then nest (bury) them so you have to dig through four or five KB's to find the relevant fix.  I'll save you the trouble and list them below.
    Watch the
September CU Webcast Brian Smith and team go into depth explaining why this issue has been happening and how they fixed it.

  • Project Server 2010 permissions granted through RBS are not flowing through to Project Sites.

    Hi,
I have configured RBS as "The Project Owner is a descendant of the user via RBS"  its working fine for Projects.
But users are  facing access denied issue when working with project sites RBS is not working for project sites.
Can any  one Help me How can i grant permissions Automatically for project sites also as same like projects is it possible ?
The Members in  Executives group can see all projects in organization but same like can they see all project sites ?
I have found one blog of
RaymondRis he is recommending to do it manually as its not possible to grant Project site permissions Automatically.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/raymond_ris/archive/2013/05/09/project-server-2010-permissions-granted-through-rbs-are-not-flowing-through-to-project-sites.aspx
    Thank You, Kumar KSV

    Kumar,
The permissions to project sites is not cotrolled by the RBS, as you have discovered. It is controlled by the Security Category permisisons, and the settings if the permssions are auto synced. The permissions work like this:
Project managers who have published a project or who have Save Project permissions on a project are added to the Project Managers (Microsoft Project Server) site group.
Team members with assignments in a project are added to the Team members (Microsoft Project Server) site group.
Other Project Server users who have View Project Site permission on a project are added to the Readers (Microsoft Project Server) site group.
As long as you use the Auto Sync of permisisons for project sites, i do not think there is any work around.

  • How to view man hours in MS Project 2013

I have created a sample project plan in MS Project 2013 with 3 resources. Some tasks are running in parallel while others are one after another. I am using standard calendar which is 8 hours a days, 40 hour a week.
How do I know man hours of my project plan? Is there some view available looking at which I can know the man hours of my project?

    Hi,
assuming default settings, you should do two things:
Add column Work to your view
Display Project Summary task: tab Format, enable check box "Project Summary Task".
This will give you total of hours (Work) for your project in line 0.
    Does that help?

  • Outlook Calendar Permissions

We recently migrated from Lotus Notes to Exchange/Outlook 2013. A few users are having issues with calendar permissions. When a user goes to Calendar Permissions, clicks on the Permissions tab and clicks Add..., the Add Users windows comes up but all the
users and groups have an icon of a red circle with a line through it. When you double click on a user and click OK, a message pops up saying 'One or more users cannot be added to the folder access list.  Non-local users cannot be given rights on this
    server.'

I'm adding individual users.  I had seen that thread before, but what doesn't make sense to me is why I installed Outlook on my laptop and opened my mailbox and there were no issues with permissions on the laptop.
I just read this again and I want to make sure I am interpreting this correctly... You installed Outlook on your laptop, connected it your mailbox and you were able to add permissions to you wanted to add on the laptop?
If that's the case, can you move one of the affected users to online mode and try to add the permissions. If you can add permissions sounds like the .ost file might have some play here.  Then I would try creating a new profle and see if you have the
    same issue.
If that's not the case, then I would follow the steps in the forum post and make sure the user accounts are all "user mailboxes" and not shared mailboxes.

  • MS Project 2013 - finding solution

We are a company wishing to use Ms Project 2013 to help us in the management of our projects, and we prepared the purchase of the product by a 3-days training to learn the basics of the software.
Most of the functions looked really helpful for us to do our cost control and monitoring activities, except for the point that we could NOT arrange the working hours properly, forbidding us to use those functions.
Our company has two different working times depending on the weeks:
One week, we work from Monday to Friday, with the following working hours: 7:30am – 5:30pm -> Total: 45 hours
The second week we work from Monday to Saturday, with the following working hours: 7:30am – 5:00pm -> Total: 51 hours
The only way we found to have the proper calendar was to:
Set the default week from Monday to Saturday from 7:30am to 5:00pm
Create a recurrent exception week from Monday to Friday, which occurs once every 2 weeks (for, like, 5 years to be sure) from 7:30am to 5:30pm
Create a recurrent exception with the Saturday off which occurs once every two weeks
The problem is, the weekly working hours is still fixed at 40hours/week. This value can be changed, but will stay the same all the time (while we need it to change from one week to another)
Thus, all the costing, resources and planning calculations are biased by the fact that the software always count the weekly hours. It creates incoherent values on the number of days worked and resources use. For example, 1 day worked will count as
8 hours, regardless the fact that the day worked is 8.5 or 9 hours as per the calendar. We can see it with the fact that if we allow a resource at 1$/hour, one day worked will be 8$, regardless the day.
Those functionalities are the main reason why we would like to use MS Project, and for the moment, the only useful part of the software we have is a proper Gantt diagram due to this Weekly Hours problem. As we were about to purchase the product,
we need to know if there is any way to have the software work properly with our working time before doing so.
Thus, please, would it be possible to know:
If there is any way to fix the problem easily so our teams can use the software ?
If yes, could you please provide us instructions to create a proper calendar, so we can try it on our trial version ?
Thank you for your help and support,
With the hope that we could use your software for the development of our company.

    Hien,
Let me expand a bit on Jan's right-to-the-point answer. Project has always had the limitation of a single definition for "hours per day", "hours per week", and "days per month", thus it is more challenging to set up a schedule
with a varied work week such as the 9-80 sequence (9 days with a total of 80 hours). There are basically two ways to handle a varied work week. The first is to simply create the schedule as a normal 40 work week and not try to emulate the varied work week.
This is the approach we took at the company where I worked a 9-80 schedule. In the long run this approach works quite well. The second approach is to enter all time related data in hours as Jan suggests. This may require some adjustment in thinking as some
companies like to plan in terms of days, weeks or even months. If data is required in those units, there are a couple of choices, either some VBA can be used to generate the needed data and dump it into extra fields or the Project data can be exported to another
application (e.g. Excel) where it can be reformatted as needed.
And just for reference, I note you use the term "your software" which implies you believe you are attempting to communicate with someone from Microsoft. That is not the case. Those of us who respond on this forum are strictly volunteers. We do
not work for nor do we have any direct ties to Microsoft.
    Hope this helps.

  • Project 2013 No Server, No Sharepoint, Updating Tasks From Assigned Resources Through Email

    Ok,
I have searched high and low for this type of information and Im surprised after all these years that no one has asked or requested this type of information?
I am a consultant, with my own version of Project 2013 to track how I run Projects.  This is the tool I use.  So this being the case it makes no sense for me to spend millions of dollars for Project Server.  I am just one person useing this
    as my tool of choice.
    My issues are:
I create and assign a task to a resource with a name and an email address.
I litterally have thousands of tasks with hundreds of assigned resources (People) with an email address.
I need to update weekly all my task!!!  The entire point of using Project 2013 as a tool!
However it appears Microsoft needs to make this very dificult to do. If I have to manually email all these people with task and manually ask them for an update, then manually update all these task then whats the point of even bothering using Micrsofts Project
    2013?  It is useless.
I need a way to automate these updates without having a Server.
The Question no one seems to be asking is this?
Is there a way to update task through email, (Outlook), Why cant I send emails with a table of tasks assinged, request update in the task table, then the assigned resource sends me back the email with thier updates and I can automatically update my Project
    Task?
Am I the only one who has asked this or thought of this?  Or are my expectations to high? I cant figure how Microsoft could ever expect a single user of Project even with only one project with 50 to 100 task listed to have to get on the phone or emal
every single person manually, and manually update every single task every single week? I have used other Project type apps and they all have a way of sending emails out to assigned people to get task updates automatically.  Only Project doesnt!
    Why?

    Thanks Prasanna,
Really for the amount of money I have to pay for a Product that should have some way to update tasks.
Think about this for minute.  I believe Project 2007 was able to do this ,,,, that made sense....
Really ponder this question:  What is the purpose of Microsoft Project for a single user?  Does anyone ask these questions prior to development?
The reason for Project to exist is to TRACK TASK!  THATS IT! Why would anyone want to track any type of task, hundreds of task MANUALLY?  It does me no good for me to be the only one tracking task.  It does me no good for me to be the only
one looking at the task schedule.  Great, so IM THE ONLY ONE WHO KNOWS WHATS GOING ON?
    So I ask this question.
If this is the case then what is the point of tracking anything if it cant be shared or updated in some way or another?  Microsoft Project is useless as a single use product!
    Here is the kicker....
I can purchase Outlook for a lot less, I can track any and all task, assign task to anyone with an email, I can assign and schedule task through Outlook and place an alert, set it as an appointment through the Calendar, change and assign start and end dates,
and get updates through email on any task, calendar, anything.... Why then would I waste ANYTIME OR MONEY ON A USELESS TASK TRACKING PRODUCT LIKE PROJECT?  It does not do anything?  Outlook does a thousand times more than Microsoft Project!
Does that make any sense to anybody?  All Microsoft Project really is... is a stripped down Calendar/Task from Outlook with no ability to email, or communicate in any way shape or form with other people who are assigned the work.  What ends up happening
is Microsoft expects single users to purchase Project Server?  Are you crazy?  This is the single reason why Project does not sale!  If Microsoft would go back to sales metrics of Project 2007 they would see a decline till now that will reflect
this problem.  Its really a simple fix.  Sales would triple.  Until there is a solution it makes way more sense for me to use Outlook, schedule work task on others calendars and have them send me an update weekly through an automated spreadsheet
through Outlook.  From there all the reports exist in Excel.  Why do I need Project anymore?  BTW  I have been a MS Project user since its inception....  SO IM not new to it... what a terrible waste of time, resources, and lack of
vision for just a simple powerful addin that was removed after 2007.  Single users like myself will never purchase Project Server just so we can send emails with assigned task for an update,,, silly?

  • Microsoft Project 2013 - Finish-date drop-down arrow

When I enter a finish date with year at 2000, 2001, ... and beyond, then click the right drop down arrow, to adjust the date via., calender view, the calender view is at 2079.  I have no
idea why it jumps forward 79 years, but obviously it makes it impractical to use the calender view to make minor date adjustments.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Scott,
Pardon my bumping in but let's make sure we're talking about the same thing. You use the term "calendar view" but I don't think that is what you meant. In Project the Calendar View is a whole separate defined view. You can find it on the ribbon under View/Task
views group. One of the reasons I don't think you really mean the Calendar View is that I'm not aware of any right drop down arrow anywhere on that view, but then I don't have Project 2013.
So, for clarity sake, do you really mean the small calendar that pops up when you activate a date field cell (e.g. Start, Finish, etc.) and then hit the selection arrow, (which is on the right side)?
This may seem like a small thing but more than once have we gone round and round trying to help a user when part of the problem was a misunderstanding due to incorrect terminology.
One other thing. I assume you realize that by entering dates directly into the Start for Finish fields, you will be setting a constraint on that task.
With that, I'll leave it to Guillaume.

  • App-V 5.0: Adding Visio 2013 and Project 2013 to a previously deployed virtual Office 2013

    Good morning.
I can successfully deploy Office 2013 via PowerShell and App-V v5.0 without difficulty.  I've read the document at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2915745/en-us and followed all instructions successfully.
My question is this:  If Office 2013 without Visio 2013 or Project 2013 is virtually deployed, how can those components be added later?
For instance, we may have 100 users that acquire a virtualized Office 2013 without Project or Visio.  We then may have 25 users that require a virtualized Office and Visio without Project and, perhaps, another 15 that require Office and Project without
    Visio.
Currently, when I attempt a second virtual deployment of one of these components, it removes Office 2013 making it inaccessible.
How can Project and/or Visio be deployed to an already existing virtually deployed Office 2013?
    Thanks very much.

As a part of MDOP, you'll also have access to UE-V which will provide a mechanism of moving user preferences across the same applications from difference packages.
It will require planning, configuration and deployment, but will ensure you don't face the same issue in the future.

  • Project 2013 APP-V Plugin

    Hi,
I have a Project 2013 APP-V package created and published successfully. Now I have a requirement from user to add a plugin for Project 2013.
I don't want to make this plugin to be available to all users. Any solutions?
I thought of creating a connection group for the individual project 2013 which is already published to this add in but I think I am confusing app-v here and it installs and uninstalls simultaneously.
Is there any possibility to create a connection group with the same package which is published individually?
    Regards,
    Chetan.T.V

What version of App-V do you use? If 5.0 SP3, then take advantage of a new feature - having optional packages in a connection group. Create a connection group that contains your existing Project 2013 package and add the add-on package (if you haven't created
a package yet, do that) as an optional package. Publish Project 2013 and the connection group to everyone that should get it and publish the add-on package only to the users who need it. That should work.

How can I share a project specific calendar I created on Entourage 2008 without showing my personal calendar? I created a project specific calendar using Entourage 2008 for Mac. I want to add someone that uses Outlook from a PC. We are in the same exchange network.  I have added this person in under the sharing tab, but don't see a way to invite her to view it, and it does not appear on her Outlook list of shared calendars. • Project 2013 - entering work hours at a monthly level

    Hi all,
Any help with this 'hopefully small' problem will be hugely appreciated. It's not so much a problem, but
me still being new to Project - sorry! As a summary of what I am working with:
I have entered a list of tasks (all set to Manually Scheduled).
I have entered a number of resources into the Resource List.
I have also assigned relevant resources to the tasks.
Using the Task Usage view, I would now like to begin entering Work hours for the resources assigned to the
tasks. We are planning at a monthly level, so I know how many hours each resource is expecting to be spending on each task over each month.
I have set the Timescale of my Task Usage screen to a monthly scale, thinking that this would allow me to
enter total hours for each month. As an example, one of the resources assigned to a task is set for 15 hours of Work in April. It all seems to look OK on input.
My problem is however, I would like the Start and Finish fields to reflect this, and span over the months
in which the Task's resources will be doing work. It doesn't seem to pick up the month accurately. Although I have entered the 15 hours in the column labelled April, the Start and Finish dates have come out as 30/04/14 and 30/05/14 respectively. I was hoping
the Start and Finish times of that row to be 01/04/14 and 30/04/14 respectively, but they are a month out of line, and has show the work to be happening over May, not April. Is there y way I can change this?
I hope this makes sense as a question? Any help at all would be brilliant. Please do let me know if I've
missed any detail and you need some more info. I'll also continue looking through the forums to check if this has already been asked.
p.s. I tried to upload an annotated image, but my account needs to be verified first. Do I need to do anything to request this? I didn't receive any usual 'verification' links in MS's email on opening this account.
    Thanks very much,
    ac18

    Hi John, Julie,
Thank you both very much for the help! Yes good spot, I did post it on both forums (http://www.msofficeforums.com/project/21190-project-2013-entering-work-hours-monthly-level.html) - it's been years since I've used forums of any kind, and it's great to see
experts being active across multiple sites!
I have given both suggestions a try, but unfortunately am still not quite there yet.
John, although your tip seems to work OK, I think I was hoping to find a way for the Start and Finish times to automatically span across the Work hours I have entered. If I was to then enter another 5 hours, but this time for March, the Start-Finish dates
should auto update to be 01/03/14 - 30/04/14. I understand now that this may require me to be on an Automatically Scheduled project?
Julie, your screen shot on the msofficeforums.com website is exactly what I am looking to achieve! I would like to enter month-level Work data, and that looks to be exactly that. I did try entering a zero in the month immediately after the last month that
had hours in it, but Project seemed to simply ignore it, with no visible change to the dates.
I have done some further investigating, and there does seem to be something different happening with my Project version (it's Proj Prof 2013). I have access to another computer with Project 2010 installed on it, and this doesn't seem to cause an issue. Note,
I did need to have set the tasks as Auto Scheduled.
Essentially, if I try and exactly replicate Julie's example on both versions with the following steps, I get slightly different results:
    Tasks set to Auto-Scheduled.
Set Project Start Date to 01/01/14
    Enter some resources.
    Switch to Task Usage view.
Set the Timescales on the right hand side to: Bottom tier=Months, Middle tier=Quarters.
    Enter a task.
Assign resources to the task. At this point, by default 8 hours worth of work appears for each assigned resource. In 2010, these hours appear in the January 14 column. But on my 2013 laptop however, these hours appear under the December 2013 column. Strange?
Anyway, in both cases I clear these default hours by entering zeros in their places.
I now enter 15 hours under April 2014 for one of the resources on the task.
In 2010, the Start and Finish dates of the assigned resource's row update to 01/04/14 - 30/04/14.
In 2013 however, the Start and Finish dates update to 30/04/14 - 30/05/14.
I have a feeling that this discrepancy is perhaps at the heart of my problem? Is there a setting with the application that I am not making?
    Thanks again,
    Arjun
