  • MSI 6380 Problem with DVD burner

    Hello
I have a prob with my new DVD burner. Maybe someone of oyu has any idea what could be the prob.
I have an Athlon XP 2400 (T-Bred) on my board (MSI Kt7 266, MSI 6380 v2). I have done the C37 mod and removed the cap. Everything worked fine. Processor correctly recognized etc.
First my old DVD burner and my old DVD-ROM stopped working (means they didn't react to any commands anymore, I pres sejecct and nothing happens...) and after thorough testing (different combinations with correct jumper setting master/slave/CS..., new cable...) I thought they're broken and got a new DVD burner. But after installing this one - sampe problem.
This is the problem in deatils: The bios does recognize the burner in autodetection in the bios or with the setting "auto". Then it says "DVD" for the respective IDE channel and during bootpu it shows the correct name of theburner (LG GSA-4163). But the drive does not react on commands. If I press eject the lamp on the drive starts blinking but nothing happens, the tray does not open. It blinks a few times then blinks a few times very fast but nothing happens. The drive is listed in the explorer in WIN but I cannot access it. Also, the device manager shows no problem. All my HDD's work fine even on the same IDE channel.
Does anyone encounter a similiar rpoblem or have any idea how to solve this?
    Thanks.

I got another psu, more powerful then my old one. Same problem though. Can it be that this is the third optical drive in a row that fails?
Strange is that with the new psu (3,3-28A, 5V-35A, 12V-26A, 410W combined, ANTEC Truepower) my hardware monitor shows that for all the power the values are lower compared to my old psu. It shows 3,26 V 4,9V and 11,7V repsectively. With the other psu all values were higher. Is that an error or does this new psu suck?

  • MSI 6380 RAM Question....Why won't it detect?!!?

    Hi all,
I currently have 2 x 256 mb PC2700 DDR sticks (double sided) in my MSI 6380 mobo. I went out and bought myself another double sided stick today and the damn board won't detect the extra stick for love nor money  :(
I know the stick works as it reads fine in other slots. MY brother has told me that some motherboards just don't like having 3 sticks. Is this true of the 6380?
If so is there any work around?
    Many thanks

Try running memtest on the new stick you just bought.  It runs under dos so you won't have to worry about only 256 with windows.  Take the old two out and test it by itself.  You might have just gotten a rotten dimm.  Another thing you could try is putting it in another slot.  Your third dimm slot could be bad.

  • MSI 6380 and XP1800 VCore Adjustment

Hows it going?  I'm running into an issue with a MSI-6380 v3.0 and the Athlon XP 1800+.  Seems the XP1800 is running pretty hot and I've been trying to figure out why.  I've got a kicken HS/Fan on it, all copper and rated for a 3200+.  The only thing I can figure is that the Vcore voltage is wrong and there is no adjustment.  The system info in the BIOS tells me the vCore is 1.74.  Correct me if I'm wrong but should that not be 1.5 for this processor.

XP1800 will be a palomino cpu, 1.75v is correct for it.
Please read the trouble guide sticky on top of via section about proper headsink mounting.

  • MSI 6380 K7T266 Pro Boot problem

My computer will not boot. The D-LED on the motherboard (MSI 6380) shows one of the LED in red when booting. Since I do not know is that's LED 1 or 4, the following is the reference from the D-LED in the manual:
    1. Testing RTC (Real Time Clock)
    2. Boot Attempt - This will set low stack and boot via INT 19h.
Can someone help me?  What seems to the problem and how to resolve it?
    I am using the following:
    MSI 6380 (K7t266 pro), BIOS ver 1.9, PC2100 DDR (256mb), 64mb 4x AGP, 80gig HD, NIC, CDR, and 56K Modem.

put power on and off agian, acpi enabled !! in bios, do not use pci slot 1 and 5, if there is Creative and a modem on that place

  • Msi-6380 k7t266 pro2-ru keeps restarting

I have just been given a  msi-6380 k7t266 pro2-ru from a friend who has just bought a new board and therefore gave me his old one. But i have plugged everything with a radeon 9000 128mb graphics card and an athlon 1400mhz and 512 2100ddr ram and the pc begins to load and the top two diagnostic leds light briefly and the buzzer beeps once and then all 4 red lights come on and the pc restarts itself.  ?(  This would indicate to me that it is a CPU problem, but i have changed the cpu with different ones and similar results occour??? ;(  Does anyone have any idea what this problem may be????? I would be very greatful for any help.
    Many Thanks
    Chris Tootell

    Chris,
Since you have a KT266 Motherboard and you posted in the nVidia/AMD/SiS Motherboard Forum, I moved the thread to Via Forum for you.

  • MSI-6380 (KT266) Problem with 512M RAM

    Hello everynone.
    Here is my config:
    MSI - 6380 Motherboard (Via KT266)
    AC '97 Sound is enabled.
    Windows 2000 Pro - SP3
    Matrox G400-32M AGP card
    512M-PC2100 (generic)
    Maxtor 27GB Drive
    Linksys LNE100TX LAN Card
    Liteon 16/10/40 CDRW
    Logitech USB/Optical Mouse
MSFT - Internet Explorer Pro Keyboard
I recently swapped out a 256MB module for the 512MB module.  Ever since I did this, the mouse performance is crappy.  For example, the mouse is sitting idle and I go to move it - the mouse does not respond right away like it is asleep, then it works fine.  After I stop moving the mouse, the problem will randomly occur again.
Is there some sort of issue with 512MB ram modules and this motherboard?  Do I need to tweak some bios setting, or load some new driver?
Also, if someone couls explain the USER memory configuration to me, maybe I should use 1T timing????
    HELP!!! ?(

To me there is not a logical relationship between a memory update and mouse response.  Maybe I am asking the obvious, but if you have a mouse with batteries, are these still okay?  My optical/wireless mouse goes to sleep after about 5 minutes to save battery power.  I need to click a button to wake it up.
The relationship between changing memory module and mouse could be entirely coincidental.
Memory settings.  I never use SPD, but always user. Start with everything in the slowest setting (usually highest value).  One or max two settings at the time are changed and run a demo like 3Dmax2001 continuously to see if it crashes.

  • NEED HELP ON MSI 6380 KT266

    Please, I Need help.....
first of all, at night, my System seems ok when i print a picture. then the problem came at the morning, when the PC wont even turning on! after some time, about 1-3 minutes, the PC turned on on itself!!! sometimes the PC rebooting it self when the LED indicating the RAM, and the Processor scanned....then i came to the result that the PS was damage, it was 300W PS
then i bought a new 350W PS, and i plugged all, and it seems it isn't solving the problem...but when I move the RAM from bank 1 to bank 2, the system seems more stable....then i have a conclusion that it was the RAM, so i brought the PC to the MSI distributor on my Country ( Indonesia ).
after a while, they doesn't want to replace the RAM / Motherboard ( the Mobo is for 2 years warranty, and they distribute the RAM, Apacer,  too ), because they said it was the PS, so they returned it to me....
so, I ask my friend about the PS, and he said that if the +5V below 4.9V then i was the PS, and it's true, it is @ 4,810v - 4.893v on the BIOS....but how this is connected to the RAM bank 1? i have a 25A for +5v at my PS. until now, the only thing i've done is to reduce the FSB to 100, and moving the RAM to Bank 2. but it's still unstable for sometime.....
*ADDITION* and when finally the PC succeed on Windows, suddenly, i hear a sound, similar to when
you turn the system off..."clack" ...when it does, the PC hang, and after a few seconds...it reboot itself
Do you guys here, experts, could help my on my problem? how to increase the +5v? please, help me....i'm so desperate....
    this is my spec :

there are no combination @ my PSU but these are written on the label :
    DC Max OUTPUT 350W+
    Voltage
    230V
    Red +5V, 25A --> it's only 25A, isn't it too low?

  • !AGP 2x!, !GeForce 3!, !MSI-6380! Problem

    Hello people!
    I have got a problem.
First my computer: AMD Athlon XP 1800+, MSI K7T266 Pro2-RU (or 6380) bios version 3.3, further is only my videocard important I think: an ASUS v8200 GeForce 3 Ti 200.
OK, i got my pc: it worked very fine! But then I discovered a thing: my videocard was running at 2x AGP!!!! And I have paid for 4x! Cause my videocard AND my motherboard can both suply 4x AGP. So I turned "4x" AGP on in the bios, that worked but when I started my computer again, I installed "Smartdocter". It is a program with which you can see the voltages of your card, well, I know that 4x AGP uses 1.5 Volt and 2x AGP 3.3 Volt...
4x AGP was turned on in the bios (infoview and other programs said that 4x was turned on, so that fits), but MY MOTHERBOARD supplied 3.3 Volt @ 4x AGP!!! is this wrong?? In 3d games there sometimes... (how do you say this in english?) well... you see thing you don't see when everything is stable? does that makes sense? it doesn't crash, but the game is not uh a good view.
I hope that 3.3 Volt doesn't mess up my card or motherboard...
    Well, please respond! Please!!!!
    Thanks Thanks Thanks!
    Wizard

That card is a 3.3 volt I have one in my second computer regardless of 2 x or 4x the issue is the sideband addressing. Also the 4x dont work it is pointless to try on the card. The main board I use for the card is the p3v4x both asus I contacted asus buy phone and I was told that 4x is instable with that board, I have read others with boards more recient than the board i used and the 4x problem  is still happening so I am thinking it is the card itself. but you may try to disable the sideband addressing if it already isent.
I like the card for the 3dsterio and the tv turner and the capturing ability it is used all the time, do not let the card go if it is the asus delux it is a gem.

  • MSI 6380 (KT3 Ultra Raid) Audio fault in XP

    Hi.
Has anyboys got any ideas as to why my Realtek ac'97 onboard audio doesnt work in Windows XP?
The Board is a MSI KT3 Ultra.  MSI site says it an XP driver, but when i install XP, in my system devices i get the yellow "!" mark and the message "device drivers not installed"
If i through 2k on the go in first time, every time.
I've always hated XP, and was finally getting over it untill this !!!!
    Does anyone have an ideas?
    Cheers,
    Dan

I looked at the  drivers for your m/b and I can say I'm not comfortable with the fact that the driver for the RealTek is for all win O/S's.  If you recently upgraded from win2k to XP, something is still amiss.  I agree with the last reply, which was try drivers from RealTek site.  You might want to try uninstalling the drivers you have for the device and reinstalling the new ones.  Might want to try and update everything while your at it (Bios & 4 in 1 chipset drivers).  Leaving nothing else to chance.

  • MSI 6380 ver 3.0

    Hi All
I am new member of this forum. I purchased a MSI 6380Pro2 Ver3.0 MOBO from ebay and discovered that this board, being a OEM board, runs on AWARD bios and there is no support from MSI regarding bios. I am very curious if someone here has this board and got some hacked bios to upgrade the MOBO. Presently it can take upto XP1800+ CPU, no barton core support whereas the previous versions can do that with updated bios from MSI. Interestingly, they all run on AMI bios and so MSI support site is joke to me.
However, I am quite happy with my present configuration. It has a old 650MHz Duron ( 64MB L1, 64MB L2 cache) overclocked to 866MHz (by changing the FSB from 100MHz to 133MHz via jumper) and that runs rock solid.
So please, if you guys have any idea about this board, get back here to leave your experience.
    Sam

    Hi,
As you allready said, it's an OEM board.
This means you have to look at Gateway, Dell, PackardBell or whatever major OEM is using the board for support.

  • MSI 6380 Ver 2.0 K7T266 Pro2-RU

I purchased a DiamondMax 9 160gb 8mb HDD to replace the older 80gb. The 80gb worked fine with the raid setup. I've updated my bios to the 3.6 and then, 3.7, and still no luck. However, the raid detects the 160gb, but installation of Windows Xp doesn't find any hard drive. It's strange because the Windows Xp setup is capable of finding the old hard drive when connect to the raid controlled IDE.
I really don't know much about new installations of hard drives. In any case, I have it connected to the the regular IDE for now.
I would appreciate the help if anyone could help me. I have four optical drives, but only two being used. I'm no genius, but thanks in advance.

Have you possibly figured this out?  I'm having the same problem!  Thanks in advance!

  • MSI 6380 LE K7T266 Wont detect 512 PC 2100 DDR

Hi. Today when I started up my computer I noticed that only 256 PC 2100 DDR was showing up as I have 512 DDR this was alarming. I have tried swapping around my ram sticks and it seems as though slots 2 and 3 are not working. I bought a new 256 DDR today and tried that but the new memory was not detected. Is there any bios setting or something that I could have changed by accident? Why wont it detect more than 256 DDR? Also what will happen if I use a 512 DDR stick PC 2700, will it just get clocked down to PC 2100 or will it just not work as this mb only supports 2100? Thanks.
    Lance

    Hi,
Maybe you have a fighting memory stick? Happens sometimes....try a different brand.
And yes it's no problem to use PC-2700, it will work as PC-2100...

  • Slow HDD performance in XP SP2 with MS-6380

    Hi all,
I have this HDD throughput problem in XP:
First, I ran hdd testing utilities within a boot CD and I got:
    35Mb/s, (75Mb/s burst)
After a clean fresh Windows XP (SP2 integrated) install, I got:
(with hd_speed and hdtach for windows, first applications that ran after install)
    34Mb/s, 34Mb/s burst ( !?!)
After installing sound and modem drivers, antivirus and firewall... and a few reboots, I got:
    (with the same testing apps)
    20Mb/s, 20Mb/s burst (!?!)
    Specs:
    MSI-6380 KT3 (without RAID) KT333 Via chipset
(all IDE related settings in BIOS are ON)
    AMB 1800+

    Onboard Via Sound
GeForce 5200XT AGP (running @ 4x, mobo max AGP rate)
    IEEE PCI Card
    Windows XP-SP2
    DMA enabled
I also work with a NT4 PC and I get:
    (with the same testing apps)
    30Mb/s, 67Mb/s burst
    Specs:

    2x256 RAM @ 133
    Seagate 20Gb ATA100
    Windows NT4-SP6, DMA enabled
Can somebody tell me what's wrong with this picture?
Will 4in1 drivers do any good? How about miniport ide drivers?
Can't I get more of a 'better' system???

Hello again and thanx for your replies..,
Well, I don't think XP's Service Pack 2 might be the cause of it.
I was having the same problem with a previous WinXP installation (SP1a, I guess)
    And yes, I defrag everything...
The interesting thing is, SOMETIMES, I get the 35-37Mb/s with George Breese's hd_speed. And on other times, I get 20-21Mb/s...
I don't know if it has something to with some services within SP2 (I got some good info at Black Viper's)
I'll tweak a little more with those and see what I can come up with.
    I'll post results, if possible.
Btw, I have 2 partitions in XP:
'drive' C: with 5Gb (NTFS, 8Bytes/cluster) for SO, apps
'drive' D: with 55Gb (NTFS, 8Bytes/cluster) for media
    See ya!
