MSI 7030 K8N Neo fans

The other night I had to flash my bios (v2.1) to teach mobo about the new A64-3400 cpu. Now I don’t get the northbridge smartfan option to set upper / lower speed limits on this fan, only for the CPU fan.
I could use Speedfan, but I have an aversion to applets doing what the bios should do.
So where have they gone? The Sft+F2 Ctrl+F3 option does not reveal these setting as hidden, they’ve just gone!
Anyone know how I reveal these fan options in the bios?

There is no smartfan options for nb in this bios , only for cpu_fan header .
7030 bioses from 1.8x and up are based on a new base bios.
I just had a look inside the 210 version and compared to others ,smartfan options for nb disappeared from 180 ,only cpu smartfan is left.
Logical really - if we concider that the 7030 comes with passive heatsink on nb.

  • Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 with MSI MS K8N Neo Platinum (Bios Version 1.40)

    I am interested in Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 (PC4000) 512MB DDR-SDRAM. Currently, I’m using MSI MS K8N Neo Platinum (Bios Version 1.40) with AMD 64bit 2800+ & MSI MS 8907 FX5200-TD128 AGP Card.
Please advice whether the Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 (PC4000) 512MB DDR-SDRAM compatible with my systems.

The "safe mode" that the BIOS message refers to is not related to Windows' Safe Mode. The BIOS safe mode lets you un-do any overclocking or memory settings that might make your computer so unstable that you can't even get into the BIOS settings to change them. In that case, you hold insert while powering on to reset the BIOS to default safe values.
As for your problem getting into Windows' Safe Mode. If you upgraded from another motherboard that uses a different chipset, or if you somehow got the wrong chipset drivers installed, then the old AGP GART or chipset drivers will cause the system to halt/reboot very early in the Windows boot process even in safe mode. I've run into this problem before and its tricky. Best thing to do is switch back to the old motherboard, then go into safe mode and remove all chipset-related drivers, and then switch back to the new motherboard. If you can't do that, try running system repair from the windows setup CD. And failing that, you'd probably have to fully re-install the OS.

My whole system is running damned stable, except for not POSTing on a cold boot sometimes - I haven't worked out why this is just yet but I'm guessing it's something to do with MSI's badly engineered BIOSes. It seemed to have a lot of trouble cold POSTing on 300HTT so hence it being at 302 (I just put it up from 301 as it didn't POST properly this morn).

  • HELP! K8n Neo Platinum (7030) 2.10 Bios -- CPU overheating

    AAAAAH Someone help me!!
I just downloaded the MSI Liveupdate program, and Updated my Bios from 1.7 to 2.10.
With Bios version 1.7 I was running my AMD 64 3200+ at solid 35-55 degrees (min to max)
Now with this new bios version, my CPU runs at 57-72 degrees (min-max) !!!!!!
HOLY CRAP -- this processor is not even rated to run at temperatures above 70 degrees Celsius!!
I'm in the danger zone as I type out this message to you guys, and I'm worried I'll reduce the shelf life of my processor.
CAN ANYONE HELP ME??? I've tried changing All the settings around in the bios, I've even set the processor down to about 1.8 ghz, and it's still running at temperatures above 55 degrees...
From what I understand there is no way of removing a bios flash, is that correct? Am I stuck with this crappy 2.10 bios flash?
What can I do? Please dear god... help me.

    Ok answers to your questions:
My board is a MSI-7030 (K8N Neo Platinum) And Originally I flashed the bios from 1.7 to 2.1 Via Liveupdate (MSI Live Monitor & Live Update 3)
    - I read your faq on how to manually rollback the bios, and i rolled back to version 1.9 (which I had never had before)
and that did not seem to work. My temp is still at 68-72 C -- even in the bios.
A few questions I need to ask now:
    1) Is the next step is to revert back to 1.8? Then if that doesn't work, back to my original 1.7?
-- also, 2) Who is Syar? Where can I get his version of the bios? --
Finally: 3) What is the CMOS battery?  I know what the Jumper is, but I'm not sure what the battery is...
Is that the circular battery that's next to the BIOS Jumper? (maybe a picture would help..)
Thanks for all the responses so far! you guys are saving me from having a major emotional breakdown here.. I thought I was going to have to buy a new mobo.
I'll check back here on the forums in a few hours to see if anyone has responded,
(p.s. TY SO MUCH for caring enough to help a fellow hardware enthusiast!!!  )

  • K8N NEO PLATINUM Nvidia nforce 3 250 GB Chipset rebooting - hanging !@$%@#$@

    Hi folks,
I am working on the K8N NEO platinum motherboard based on the Nvidia nforce 3 250 GB Chipset.
A couple of days ago I lost my internet connection (broadband). After a couple of minutes it ok again. But suddenly the computer frooze.
After rebooting (button on case) I found out that lots of things couldn't be closed anymore once they were opened. I needed to use CTRL-ALT-DEL to go the the active Tasks. But then that started to freeze too so I decided to wipe everything of the system.
I repartioned and reformated the computer with the win XP PRO CD and reinstalled the OS. I saw immediatly that the system was slower then before and that it did not found the internet connection anymore. I checked the LAN connection and there it sayed that the LAN card was working well but that no cables were connected. This was not true because I dubbel checked them twice. I even replace the cable. It was not my Internet provider neighter because the computer is in a local network and others had no problem to access the internet. So I decided to reinstall and reinstall it again. I reinstalled the system (partioning, formatting) it 4 times. The last time suddenly it found my connection back. Then I installed all updates of windows and I used my live update from MSI to update my components.
I am using live update 3 and updated the BIOS and all other parts who needed to be updated. This was done without the presence of a AV and so on. Everything went well and no errors occured. I received everytime a message with success.
Today my computer suddenly hanged itself again. This already 3 times. Nothing is possible anymore except the boot button on the case.
I also encountered 3 times the while surfing the computer suddenly reboots itself without any warning or message.
What the hell is going wrong here ???
Can aynone give me a clue please ?

  • [K8N Neo-FSR/V2] Amd Athlon 64 Compatibility

    Hi all,
I have bought a motherboard K8N Neo-FSR/V2 with a AMD64 compatibility. I can buy a Athlon 64 3700+ socket 754 but on msi site, compatibility is marked "under testing".
Someone can confirm me the real compatibility with this processor please?
    Thanks.

It's an updated version of the old MS-7030 K8N NEO FSR which already supported all So754 Athlon64 'til 3700+, all Turion 'til MT40/ML44 and Sempron 3100+, so the newer one should too. It wasn't just verified, problem is an outdated CPU support chart.
Just found the old K8N Neo FSR on german MSI site: http://www.msi-computer.de/produkte/main_idx_view.php?Prod_id=450 (board)

  • K8N Neo Platinum driver installation

There are 4 downloadable mainboard driver zips at MSI for K8N Neo Platinum (not including BIOS a upgrade) -
    1. NVSA020.zip - SATA controller drivers
    2. NF3_CK8S.zip - Chipset drivers including:
    Ethernet NRM driver
    Network management tools
    GART driver
SMBus driver with updated uninstaller files
*Win2K IDE 2.6 driver with updated uninstaller files
*WinXP IDE 2.6 driver with updated uninstaller files
    3. USB2W9XME009.zip - USB 2.0 drivers
    4. ALC69.zip - onboard Realtek audio drivers
    *applicable version of Win OS
Are ALL these drivers from MSI to be loaded?
I think I read in some other posts where some of these drivers (?) cause problems and therefore default Win OS (or chipset manufacturer) drivers should be used instead. Is there a concensus (or list) of which drivers should or shouldn't be installed and the correct procedures and order for doing it?

    1. NVSA020.zip, these drivers come in a diskete with your mainboard as well but possibly on an earlier version. You will need these if you plan to use a SATA Raid/ or simply a SATA drive when installing your OS of choice. Please note that if you plan to use a single SATA drive use SATA 3 or 4. In this case the drivers are not necessary but rather optional.
    2. These are the nforce platform drivers. You can either use the ones off the msi site or the ones from nvidia's site. In any case i would suggest you replace the IDE driver package with the 2.5's -> http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_ide_4.15_win2KXP.html
    3. if you plan updating to a sp 1 or 2 versionof xp, you will probably not need these.
    4. ALC69.zip - > Here is the latest realtek drivers.

  • K8N Neo Platinum & Thermaltake Kandalf Tower

I just bought a Thermaltake Kandalf tower and put my K8n Neo Platinum Mobo in it but I am having troubles with wiring the top panel of the tower to the mobo.
The Kandalf has the two USB plugs but when I plug them into the mobo it cuts out the USB plugs on the D Bracket, I would like to have both running if possible.
Also, for the life of me I can't figure out how to connect the Front Panel Audio Connector : JAUD1 on the mobo to the Kandalf's audio panel.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • K8N Neo USB Controller Drivers

    AMD Athlon 64 3400+
    1GB Ram
    MS-7030 K8N Neo Mobo
    ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
    Creative Audigy 2 ZS
    Western Digital 160GB Serial ATA
    Athena Power ATX-450W PSU
Well, I recently did a fresh install of XP Pro, which went smoothly. I was OCing and went a little to far and my system wouldnt boot. After a bunch more problems and flashing my BIOS, I got everything working again. Now the only problem that I have left is my USB controller drivers won't install.
I had all my drivers backed up using Driver Genius and I currently have 18 drivers loaded. When I go to restore it has my High Speed USB Bridge, USB mouse, and keyboard (the 3 drivers Im currently missing) backed up but when I restore they don't do anything.
I installed Nvidia's 5.10 system drivers which I thought had the USB drivers on them and USB is enabled in BIOS, so, I dont know what to do.
Oh and in Device Manager, under USB controllers it has PCI to USB Host Controller, 2 standard OpenHCD USB Host Controllers, and 3 USB Root Hubs; but none of my 5 USB ports will work so whats the deal. Thanks in advance, Stealth

An sp2 bug workaround is to right click the "Standard Enhanced Usb Controller" (usb 2.0) and choose update driver and let it be done automaticly.
xp will then make a new copy of the neccesary files (if needed) from driver cache and dll cache .
Do the same for the two "openHCD controller" 's (usb 1.1) also if needed.

  • MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum Smart CPU Fan reports 0 rpm ?

    Hi
I have a MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum (MS-7125) motherboard with an Athlon 64 3700+ CPU and an Arctic Cooling Silencer Ultra 64 HSF.
In the BIOS setup, in the 'Monitor H/W' area you can set something called the 'Smart CPU Fan Target'.
o  If I set this to disabled, it reports a fan speed of about 2,280 rpm.
o  If I set it to 40°C, it reports a fan speed of 0 rpm !  (the fan is turning)
The MSI Core Center utility and Everest Ultimate also both report the fan speed as 0 rpm.
I assume that if I disable Smart CPU Fan, the fan always rotates at max. rpm; if I set it to 40°C, the fan runs at a slow speed until the temperature exceeds 40°C, at which point it speeds up (likewise if I set it to 50°C or 60°C).  However, the fan IS turning.
Can anyone explain this ?  I would like the reassurance of having the CPU HSF speed reported.
Incidentally , the PSU is an Akasa AK-P460FG
       (3.3v = 30A, +5v = 30A, +12v1 = 14A, +12v2 = 15A)

Very old post yes but I feel the need to reply anyway because I have the same problem myself.
Very strange and would be nice to hear if any more of ya guys out there can see the same.

  • Ms-7030 msi k8n neo fsr wont start

    amd 2800+ 64
    msi k8n neo fsr
    kingston 400mhz ddr value ram
    6600gt inno3d agp
    wd800 80gb hardrive
    300 watts psu
brought the system home everything was working fine except for continous stuttering on hl2. also wid it came a smart cobra lite 56k modem from zoltrix, which was installed while makign the system, the modem had been deteced but when i tried to connect to the net, the status of the modem was found to be not connected, i removed the modem, restarted by switching the pci slots and everything but to no avail, put in an older zoltrix modem from my old pc, to no avail the modem just wudnt get recognized. the same modem though worked in my older p3 system. i took the systm to the place where they assembled it.as the system booted the modem got deteced, got winxpsp2 installed wid a fresh install. everything worked fine for a day untilt eh modem once again went back into death mode.took it back to the hardware shop i remember they were using an older keyboard on it too, well as they pressd the power button, the cpu fan and the gfx card fan moved a second and then stopped no booting
they replaced mobo then and there. even the same problem occured wid the new mobo, i left the system there to be tested but the thing i dont understand is they had assembled an tested the system by using the old keyboard and even then there was no problem. this time the system was working but as it reached the assemblers the cpu and gfxs card fan moved a sec as if power was fed for a second and dided changed psu's on one try on dry boot that is widout hd connected. the fans continously worked we removed power put into chasis and tried again to start but to no avail.
cud it really be the keyboard problem if that is solved then the problem left to deal wid is the modem wud the pci slots act the same way even on the newer board or chaning modems wud do any good, changed rams also that wudnt help booting either.
in both of the new mobos i didnt get the msi sticker that adds to my frustration.
posted this on another forum too, tha guy was havng problem using an older keyboard.

its really nice of u guys to reply so quickly its really appreciated. the thing is if the psu wasnt upto the job it wud have given away 3 days ago. but it didnt other psu tried also same problem. after a couple of hours ill be off to the hardware shop to see wat came out. the ram was reseated properly on all 3 slots.
plus the 300watts psu may not even be 300 cuz its locally made and stupid quality maybe lower to around 250, but the system worked fine all along, checked rail supplies on the mobo mopnitor and they seemed fine.will keep u guys updated.
