MSI H81M E34 USB 3.0 problems

Hi to all,
I recently bought a MSI H81M E34.
All seems to work ok with the usb but when i attach my external hard drive in the usb 3.0 ports the other ports stop to work.
In the other three usb 3.0 ports I have always connected a usb wireless adaptor, speakers(they connect through usb) and a logitech camera.
Any ideas?

does the external hard drive work when you connect it? Or doesn't it work either?
What model external HDD is it?

  • Msi z77a-g45 usb 3.0 Problem

    Hi
I have just bought 2 new Seagate eksternal harddisk USB 3.0 2TB and I have a problem. I connected them to the power supply and the usb 3.0 ports and it works as it should but when I reboot or shut down and come back to windows they are not identified by windows and I have to unplug the power supply and put it back in for windows to identify them. That is of course very unpractical. I tried to to use the usb 2.0 ports instead and then windows had no trouble identifying the harddisk at reboot/shutdown. I looked in device manager an there were exclamation marks on two "USB mass storage devices" before windows identifies the harddisk and no exclamation mark when I replug to the power supply. I then updated to the latest usb 3.0 drivers from this site but it didn't help. Btw when I start the computer I can see that bios has recognised the harddisk. So maybe its a windows problem?
Is this an common issue and are there an simple solution?
    Thanks in advance.

They say they cannot duplicate the problem though. Here is the test they did, let me know what they can do to trigger this.
    1.   Install System driver and reset
    2.   Connect USB HDD to USB 3.0 port. The device can be recognized.
    3.   Reboot the system
    4.   Check Computer and still can find the USB HDD
    5.   Power off the system
    6.   Power on and check Computer.

  • MSI Mega 180 USB 2.0 Problems?!?

I have the MSI Mega 180, I have enabled USB 1.1+2.0 in the bios and also have installed Windows XP SP1. In device manager, I see 'enhanced PCI to USB host'.
With all that being said my External HD refuses to be recognized as a Hi Speed Device. On another machine, the same external HD works with no problems at 2.0 speeds.
Does anyone have any clues as to what I need to do to get USB 2.0 speeds? I get Hi-speed device plugged into non-hi speed hub?!?!
    any help would be schweet.

I believe the "Enhanced" indicates the USB 2.0 because that's what I have on other boards with USB 2.0 as well.  Prior to XP SP1 and on Windows 2k SP3? my boards didn't have the "Enhanced" addition.  Also, as I don't think I mentioned, prior to playing with the bios I had problems with the USB->Serial adapter.  If I removed the USB-to-serial adapter, the system booted fine and I would replug it.  After playing with the bios, this is no longer a problem and I leave it connected.  The stall happened when I had the adapter in front or rear USB ports, so not a speed issue (hey, it's serial) but more a recognition issue I believe (my mouse is fine, and as mentioned above an external HDD was found fine...).  Try the bios settings I mentioned as well as checking each line of each subcategory and check that all is well.  Let us know if that solves it.

  • Re: Msi z77a-gd65 usb 3.0 Problem

I also have a problem with the msi usb 3 driver or chipset; of course the driver & chipset are Intel's; however my mb is a z77a-gd65.
My problem with win7 is that autoplay kept interrupting copying files onto the usb3 drive sot that the drive is not accessible to the copy software; I updated the driver from Intel's site which was 1.05 instead of the 1.04 at msi & still the same problem.  The problem could be win7 tho.
I still had my SIIg usb3 board for pcie & so finally reinstalled the siig card; the copying of files is no longer interrupted with autoplay that results lots of errors of "drive not accessible".  The SIIg uses the nec (renesas) drivers.  It may be that Intel need to fix their usb3 drivers to work.  I still feel that part of the problem is m$ as win7 ignores the autoplay settings which was probably done when I was stupid enough to install the win8 release preview.

Split this off for you, it sounds like the usb3 keeps connecting/ disconnecting, we need some more info on your components.
    >>Posting Guide<<
I would start by eliminating the software by reinstalling the os and fresh drivers.
    Edit:
Is this a Seagate drive by chance?
Not a Seagate, it is a 2 gig Hitachi Turo.  The drive works well when I listen to my CDs on the drive; the problem is that I use it as "backup" for the 3 gig nas drive (wd mybooklive).  The nas is 3 gig only because the 2 gig was sent back to wd & was sent the 3 gig on the method where I was sent the replacement before I send the non-functioning drive.
My problem is somewhat resolved with my SIIg usb3 card; BUT Intel need to be informed about their problem but Intel may not do anything just like microsoft.  I did the uninstall of the msi usb3 driver, was successful using usb2 to copy the files; installed the "latest" Intel usb3 driver, ver 1.05 & still had problem.  Then decided to try the SIIg usb3 card which worked.

  • MSI H81M-P33 Cpu Fan Speed Problem! Urgent

Hi. Bought a H81M-P33 board and got a problem.
I can´t increase my CPU fan Speed to maxium RPM . Tried to use Command Center and Board Bios without any sucess.
This leads to my cpu (i5 4670) getting hot with stock cooler. When I´m encoding a video it reaches 85º. The best solution I had was to connect CPU Fan to Chassis Fan slot on the motherboard and it increased speed, but still it doesn´t increase past a certain value.
What can I do to solve this problem? Tried everything without any luck. The board doesn´t handle CPU fan speed + temperatura increase well. Is not normal to have a CPU stock volts getting hot.
    Thanks

I know that for sure XFM. The thing is that the board isn´t increasing CPU fan speed as it should. Ofc a better cooler would do the job, but even with stock cooler it can be cooler. The problem is that the fan is always in slow mode :|

  • MSI KSN Neo2 USB floppy boot problem

    Hi all,
I've just put together a PC using the MSI K8N Neo2 to replace my gigabyte. I've got an option on these boards (nforce3) to boot from a USB floppy and did so several times with the gigabyte (memtest and 6800ultra bios flash). For some reason however, the MSI refuses to do so. I get to POST and then I get a "detecting IDE drives...." and that's it. The machine freezes. I can't F10 or DEL, I have to Ctrl, Alt Del and pull out the floppy before it will post. I've done the obvious things like 1st in Boot order, floppy seek etc, as far as I'm aware everything's the same as the gigabyte. If I plug it in once in windows, it's recognised and works fine. Any suggestions would be very welcome.
    Many Thanks in advance.
    Roch

I don't know if I can give any more details,
    -MSI K8N NEO2 Platinum 54G SOCKET 939 NFORCE3
    -AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1.8GHz Boxed (Winchester, 0.09µ)
-Memory 512MB/333mhz don't know more about that
-Power 350W should be enough to get to bios
    -Keyboard some Logitech
    -Mouse: Not connected
    -Monitor: it works
-Gainward Geforce 3 ti 200 golden edition
    -Hardrive/Floppydrive not connected
When I boot I see Gainward logo then monitor goes black (not power save just black), when i reset it will happen again. Diagnostic leds does some tests but hangs on "Sing on bios". I have tried to reset with jumpers, different cables with differend harddrives. Different memory slots. Tonight different memories. Motherboard and prosessor is 1 day old every else is from my old computer which was 2000+ Athlon with epox via kt333. Don't know what to test anymore and I don't have any spare parts to test what is broke or is it just memories? but why it don't hang on memory test etc.

  • H81M E34 Motherboard

Hello everyone, can someone please help me, I've installed an extra hard drive into the PC so basically this is the setup, I had a 1 TB partitioned hard drive installed already and the PC was running brilliant until I needed more space and installed an extra 1TB hard drive, (both SATA) my motherboard is an [MSI H81M-E34] when I opened the case to install the extra hard drive  I put the power cable in and connected the other cable to sata 3. Then I started the PC, formatted the hard drive and everything was fine except when moving files over to the new hard drive they would move at around 120mbps for a about 3 seconds then slow down to between 12kbps  and 30kbps. I then have to cancel the operation. The motherboard has sata 1 and 2  and sata 3 and 4. The other hard drive is in sata 1, the disk drive was in sata 2 so I swapped and put the new hard drive in sata 2 and the disk drive into sata 3. The disk drive still works fine. Nothing had changed with the hard drives, still slow. So I then reformatted the new hard drive and converted it to logical, now even slower and also slow copying from my documents to desktop on the same drive. The PC is only 6 weeks old so everything still like new, the other hard drive came from my old PC but it was in perfect working condition before I put it in new PC. I've checked for any new drivers or updates but it says I have the latest drivers installed.  I've scanned both hard drives for errors and their fine. I've defragged and that went fine. Can someone please advise me on where I went wrong and how to correct it? Are the cables in the right place on the motherboard? Should I have converted the new hard drive to logical? And what should it be converted to? If I had any hair on my head id have pulled it out. I've tried to attach a picture of the drives and how they look right now but don't know how to attach it. I click on attach an image but it then put (image) in my text. Someone please help me.

You mean a surface scan? Was the scanning speed OK?
What if You copy a file from the new drive to the same drive?

  • MSI H81M-E33 BIOS Issues and Post Flash Issues

    Hello,
My situation is as follows: (TL:DR at bottom)
Built a new computer and decided to use the new LGA 1150 refreshed CPUs. Bought the MSI H81M-E33 Motherboard and installed windows. Noticed a problem with the rebooting even when installing windows. Thought it was just because of the windows installation, but problem persisted in which the computer seems to shut down but doesn't power down and i have to manually hold power button to power down and then push it again to start up. No real issues it seems since the computer does close processes and shut down but this was irritating me. I read online that BIOS updates seem to fix this problem. Did some research and decided to update with M-Flash to bios v6.6.
As I used M-flash to update to BIOS (selected "Select one file to update BIOS and ME") v6.6 the update stops at 47% and then the computer attempts to restart. BUT it still has the same problem and does not power down. So I manually powered down and started it back up. I then got "no signal" even as I waited. Now I'm freaking out and I power it down again and try again. This time I wait and it get to BIOS (MSI Screen) and then no signal again (not booting windows). Again I hold power down and power back on. Long wait again and I get back to bios. Still freaked out at this point but relieved I didn't brick motherboard.
Decide to flash v6.5 in case 6.6 was too new and might some problems. However v6.5 has the same problems; bios update stops at 47%, computer attempts to reboot, can't reboot, I power off, power on, no signal, power off, power on, wait a while and it gets to BIOS (MSI Screen), then boots to windows.
Right now the bios does read the bios version as v6.5 but I still have the issues in restarting where that doesn't really work. In addition, I now have this wait from pushing the power button to when I see BIOS (MSI Screen).
    TL:DR
Had reboot problems decided to update BIOS
Used M-flash ("Select one file to update BIOS and ME") to update to v6.6
Update stopped at 47%, computer attempted to reboot, got no signal (reboot problem), powered off, powered on, waited a long time nothing, freaked out, powered off, powered on, waited a while got to bios (Whew), checked for new version (it is).
Decided v6.6 might be too new decided to try v6.5 used M-Flash again
Again stopped at 47%, computer attempted to reboot, got no signal (reboot problem), powered off, powered on, waited a long time, nothing, powered off powered on, waited a while got to bios, checked bios for new version (it is), save and exit, no signal, power off, power on, waited a while got to bios, then booted into windows
    My concerns are;
I seem to still have reboot issue.
I have to wait for BIOS now, no longer pretty quick start.
    My questions are;
Did I mess up the flashing somewhere?
    Was stopping at 47% normal?
Should I try to update the BIOS another method to fix my current problems?
Am I missing a step somewhere?
Any help is appreciated, I just got really freaked out by the whole process but I'm just glad the computer still works (kinda).
Thanks in advance for any help, and apologies on the long essay just wanted to be as specific as possible.

  • MSI Forum HQ USB flashing tool!!!

    Hi guys,
We the forum team have developed  a new way of flashing.
You no longer need a floppy or anything, just an USB-stick.
The tool has been tested together with MSI and as far as we have done our testing, there are no problems at all.
As long as the USB-stick is FAT or FAT32 formatted!
However, flashing is allways risky, so if it goes bad it's your own fault, but that goes for all flashing you do.
This tool is intended to flash MSI retail motherboards and laptops,
but if needs you can use any other machine to prepare the necessary stuffs and the USB stick there,
before move the USB stick to the msi product that you want to flash.
The way it works is simple: Download the package and download the BIOS from the MSI website that you want to flash.
    The rest is straight forward.
Make sure that your board is set to be able to boot from USB.
So turn on USB Legacy Support in the BIOS.
Boot and press F11 to get the boot-popup and select your USB-device to boot.
(some boards have a different key, like K8N Master uses ESC for the boot-menu)
What ever you do, make sure you read all warnings!
The forum nor MSI is responsible if it fails for you.
Nor is this software supported by MSI technical support!
Please report problems/buggs if you find them.
    currently supported OS ( both 32 & 64 bit):
Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (also Windows in Virtualbox under Linux!)
    (all kind of versions)
NOTE: If you are having problems getting your USB device to boot correctly, you may need to format it correctly as the geometry data may be incorrect. You can do that by pickup option "Fix My USB key" from the Tool or by using >>> THIS <<< tool here! For future usage you can skip this step, it need to be done only once if your stick need adjustment.

    Hi Max,

yes, the latest version accidentally really become a test for any AV....
in latest 1.13b Avast! no more report false positive,
but all others AV software starting reporting a different false positive results:(all AV listed didn't report false positive problem in a provisional version) Avast! was fixed and no more report the false passivity and passed, but all other AV software started to be a lot confused...
Kaspersky Anti-Virus - Proactive Defense Warning: Riskware detected.
    Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2nd ID - Backdoor.Win32.Iroffer.af

Just to clarify one more time, all things listed are false alert coused and exist in latest version only due Avast! fix.(1.13b)
didn't continue to test with rest of AV...
only Avast! and NOD32 report no problem detected.
in 1.13a all false positive listed above doesn't exist, but only Avast! report false positive.
Hoverer, the wave of false positive mess has been resolved along with Avast! false positive as well.
    New version is ready, 1.13c:
    - fixed false positive wave which confusing most of AV software. (all AV do not report any problems anymore)
    - fixed 3 minor bugs:
           * after finished work the tool do not quit normal as expected and hang instead, that happend in x32bit OS only when used has been asked for reboot and answered with "No". e.g. in described specified case.
           * 4th mainboard filter report positive results in some Biostart mainboard and this cause tool to false ID some Biostar board as MSI one.
           * added missing drive letter as USB key choice ("I")

    Hey everyone.
I'm interested in buying this mobo, but I'm not sure wheter the MSI H81M-P33 is fully compatibile with the following:
    DDR3 G.Skill Ripjaws X-F3-12800CL9D-4GBXL 1600 MHz 4 GB CL 9-9-9-24 1.5V
This RAM does not appear among the QVL memories on the mobo's page of MSI website.

Have you checked the G Skill site to see which boards they have tested it with? http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-12800cl9d-4gbxl  Your board is listed from their side
Then it should work I think.

Do you own this RAM or plan to buy it? Because some users has been experiencing problems with GSkill RAM on MSI boards.
Yes, I plan to buy it for a new PC for a friend of mine.
I did not know there were known problems with GSkill RAM on MSI boards  !!!
I own a GSkill Ripjaws pair (2x4 GB) on my own computer, with a MSI P67 GD-65... I've not experienced almost no problem at all until now (3 years).
A couple of times, when I open the chassis to clean the dust, my desktop refused to boot until I took off and placed back in the ram.

  • K9VGM-V USB 2.0 problems

I'm assembling systems based on K9VGM-V motherboards.
They all have the strange behaviour that the front USB 2.0 ports , not always are recognised by Windows as 2.0
Sometimes they are reported as 1.0.
The USB ports on the back of the motherboard , are always working as 2.0.
Tested other brands of motherboards in same cases with the same USB apparatus , no problems.
All the K9VGM-V boards i tested have the same strange behaviour.
Who can help ?. Even bios update did'nt solve the problem.

MSI's USB configuration has the #10 pin set as OC(overcurrent), but many cases have a 9th wire(you only need 8 wires) leading to the #10 pin as a GROUND. This is where the problem occurs.  It is likely, that the "other" MOBOs that work may have the #10 pin, but it is not electrically connected and that's why you don't have an issue. BTW, Have you checked to see if you can remove the wire leading to the #10 pin on the USB header block of the case?  For my case, there is a tab you can lift to pull out a wire.  If you aren't going to cut or remove anything, then I guess you'll need to get a USB PCI card and use that instead.
MOBO drivers are the chipset drivers; the VIA 4in1. http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=260

Nice redesign of the MSI forums, however it seems to have broken all download links I could find for the MSI HQ Forum USB Flasher -- which I am in desperate need of.
For example, the link mentioned at http://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/how-to-flash-the-bios-successfully just redirects you to the forums with the message "An error has occured!"
Could anyone please point me to a reliable source for the MSI HQ Forum USB Flasher? Thanks!

Well according to MSI you should be using MFlash in order to restore a bad BIOS
Things are still not up and running, so this may take a while before things get back (if they planned to get them back).
Sadly I don't have forum flasher on me.. maybe other mod has one.
In the sticky https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=172772.0 I found the FPT flasher for socket 1150 boards. Just finished fixing my primary BIOS! All is well again!!!
That's a huge relief. Now I could update my secondary BIOS to 1.7 without fear.
