MSI N480GTX w/AMD CPU

got one of these cards but didnt think there might be a compatibility problem using it with an AMD Athlon II X4 2.6ghz CPU/MB. I can't remember ever having to consider what my cpu was before i bought a video card.
Is this true? I must use an Intel i7 cpu with this video card?

Thanks, I did install it with no problems. A friend of mine recently bought a Dell and he said that the system builder would not let him combine a card of this type without also choosing an i7 cpu. Who knows.. but thanks
If that were true then my 465 GTX would not work with my i3 as it is a member of the same family, 465/470/480. 465 is a slightly gutted version of the other two.

Check here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=176110.0, same thing happens to 990FXA-GD80 and my 990FXA-GD65 too.
It has been reported to MSI customer support but not any specific solution yet.

  • MSI 990FXA-GD65 + AMD FX-6300 + 16GB 1866MHz RAM Won't Boot

    Hello,
Today I received parts for my new gaming system (sans water cooler, using the stock heatsink+fan until then), however I'm experiencing problems with the setup.  The specs are as follows:
    - MSI 990FXA-GD65
    - AMD FX-6300 CPU
    - GSKILL 16GB (2x8GB) 1866MHz DDR3 RAM
    - Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB SSD
    - 2x MSI GeForce GTX 660 Ti
    - EVGA NEX750B1 PSU
    - BitFenix Comrade case
Upon powering on (after assembly), the Phase Indicator only has the first two LEDs lit up (Phase 2 Power Mode, according to the manual).  No output is displayed on screen.  I've tried removing and re-inserting the CPU and removing one of the graphics cards, to no avail.
I would appreciate any help/advise that could be offered, that I might get this system up and running!
    Kind Regards

Try to run this system out of the case on non conductive area (e.g. plain cardboard) with 1 stick of RAM only, 1 GPU (try without any graphics cards too), single HDD/SSD, PSU of course, CPU+cooler and monitor+keyboard and mouse. When booting spam Delete and it should take you to the BIOS where you have to change timings of RAM suggested in the post about GSkill memory.
If possible, borrow different brand of RAM to test your PC with.
Make sure that if you're running single GPU, that video cable is connected to the card. If no GPU, then to the motherboard.

I noticed in the Device Mgr, there is a question mark next to other devices, and below it,  there is an exclamation/question mark next to Other PCI Bridge Device.
What is this Other PCI Bridge Device?  Is there a driver for it or is this a hardware problem?  How do I fix that?
    I have a MSI K7D Dual AMD 2400MP, 2GB Mushkin ECC RAM, GF4 4600 Video card, and using Win2k.
    Thanks.

with dual motherboard you should have a 2nd IRQ controler is that installed? maybe its that "other"
with a dual motherboard you should have 255 IRQ's

Best BIOS setting for MSI K8N Plat + AMD 3000+ Venice + Geil Value RAM

If you want SSE3 support and you do not overclock, Bios 1.4 is the only one officially available (1.41beta is not official).
Try to upgrade to 1.4 and see it for yourself, do the upgrade with floppy in DOS so that you can save your old Bios.
I would rather wait till mid June when a less troublesome new bios is suppose to be availabe for NEO4 MBs.

  • WindowsXP and games trouble on AMD CPU's....

    Hi,
It seems that Microsoft has problems with DirectX under WinXP and AMD-CPU's.....
Some games won't run because of that.....
    Read this link

    Bas,
Here is the exact code problem:
    Quote
    CAUSE
The DrawIndexedPrimitive function stops working without displaying an error or debug message. This occurs because of a code error in the AMD-specific optimized code. This code error may lead to heap corruption.

How about if it was OEM
Well it seems that all users here have build their own systems .

  • MSI 880G-E45 AMD ATX and G.Skill Ram?

I am upgrading my system and was thinking of getting the MSI 880G-E45 AMD ATX motherboard with the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T BE AM3 with the G.Skill 2 2Gig ram sticks.  I checked the MSI site to see if the ram works with the 880G, but the 2 last letters of the ram listed was off from what I bought.  Does that mean it won't work?  The package says the G.Skill is designed for Intel LGA1156 platforms and compatible with Intel LGA1155 Sandy Bridge and AMD AM3 CPUs.
    F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL is what I bought
F3-12800CL9D-4GBHN or something like that was what was listed on the list
I know the motherboard and processor are compatible though because I saw a couple of people using the same bundle and it's listed as compatible.
    MSI 880G-E45 AMD ATX
    AMD Phenom II X6 1090T BE AM3
    G.Skill Ripjaws 2 2Gig ram
And yes, I am not very computer techy literate.

    Quote
But on newegg, the G.Skill had pretty stellar reviews from a bunch of people so it's hard to think they are a bad choice.
Were these reports by Intel or AMD users ?
If you look at what G-Skill states themselves in one of the feedbacks you will see this:

We are sorry to hear you are having issues. Please make sure to configure memory settings properly in BIOS. Without the proper settings, this memory will not work smoothly. This memory is above standard, so manual settings or enabling DOCP (if supported) is required. AMD systems only support DDR3-1333 CL9 natively, so if you purchase memory better than this, you must manually input settings in BIOS

  • MSI K7D Master AMD Dual Athlon MP

OK so I've completed my first Dual Athlon and I'm getting some varied results. here's the specs:
MSI K7D Master AMD Dual Athlon MP Motherboard ATX
    Dual 2400+
    Antec 350W
    various NVIDIA video cards
    Kingston 266/512 64X64 DDR
I first tried a Wildcat 5110 but got no video, 3DLabs tells me this mobo has not been tested and cleared by them, so heads-up don't go with this mobo/video combo.
I went to NVIDIA and got video, I set the system jumper to 133MHz. I got a RAM error, change sticks (I have several of the same kind) but get the same result. After several attempts the machine boots and I install WinXP.
Now it is hit and miss sometimes I get the RAM error and the machine just sits there, sometimes it boots but the mouse doesn't work other times it seems to boot fine but the programs (3D Studio Max / Brazil) will just quit for no apparent reason. I set the BIOS to to check the RAM on start-up, it finds no errors.
I really appreciate hearing any ides or from anyone who has attempted this sort of thing before.
    Liquidman

    Very cool thank you.
Well I got a call back from MSI customer service, they said try going to 'Advanced chipset' and change the 'AGP Fastload' from whatever it is to the opposite state (enable vs disable) I think the default is enable. I tried that, but it was the same if not worse. I reset the BIOS, set the fsb to 100MHz flipped the 'AGP Fastload' and that, of all things worked. Giving credit to the cs department - it did not work without changeing the Fastload state.
I got the 3DS Max/serverrunning and here are some statistics:
Rendered with Brazil, tons pf polygons, reflection and refraction.
    Athlon 2500XP (non-Barton) 1gig unbuffered MSI KM4M:
3 hours 15 minutes per frame.
    Intel P4 2.4 533MHz fsb 1 gig unbuffered MSI 845GE (northwood)
2 hours 54 minutes minutes per frame.
    K7D Master 100Mhz fsb (non-Barton) 1gig unbuffered value ram.
1 hour 15 minutes per frame.
I will try the ecc registered RAM next week. If the results are this good with the jumper set to 100MHz I really looking forward to checking out the 133MHz...
    Any suggestions on brand/configuration ?

  • Msi a55 e33 + r7 260x Graphics problem + amd cpu temps?

Hello, i have some problems with my new build
    My system is,
    cpu: amd athlon 750k
    mobo: a55e33 msi (bios 11.4)
    Gpu: sapphire r7 260x
    ram: corsair vegeance 4gb
    psu: corsair vs450
    1) The problem is like this, whenever i don't do anything on my pc the monitor goes black and the pc crashes sound stucks some times and i have to reboot... tried several gpu drivers some crashes right away and some are like this.. is this a gpu issue ? Anyone with same experience ?
    2) Second problem my cpu temperature is inaccurate and the only program that display a temp is cpuid hwm, cpu idles at 40-50c and goes as far as 80c based on the program... that was with stock cooler, upgraded cooler with an alpenfohn sella (deepcool rebrand) and the problem persists, temps were similar even with older bios version and the same older version board... is this a cpu problem ?
ps. Prime 95 for 4 hours hwm indicates 80c touched cooler with bare hand multiple times during this period not even near this temp even at the lower end of the cooler ...
    thanks 4 any suggestions

    Hi,
my idea is that your power supply is not efficient enough for r260x.
    Try without the graphics card.
About the CPU temps, try to reapply the thermal paste. (when you've exchanged the cooler, have you cleaned the CPU?)
It also might be the problem with the software (or BIOS). Spend couple of $ and buy an external CPU temperature checking tool (don't know proper name of it).
Power supply is enough for the gpu probably driver issues as other users have the exact same problem with the same card, cpu temps are definitely mobo/bios or cpu related yes yes i cleaned the cpu i cleaned everything and reapplied ic diamond .. temps are the same with stock cooler and aftermarket cooler can't be coincidence + no program indicates temps other than hwm
Take notice i had 2 msi a55e33 one with bios 11.1 and another one which came with 11.4 from factory
Conclusion ? or the cpu is broken or the mobo indicates wrong temperatures

  • MSI K9A2 PLAT/AMD 9850 BE/ CPU Ratio issue

    Stats
    AMD-9850 BE
MSI-K9A2 plat v1.0/Bios 1.3(have given 1.4 and 1.6 a try and it does not fix the issue)
    PSU-Apevia Warlock 900w
    ATI 4870
    4gigs(2 sticks) OCZ-DDR2 1066
    Windows Vista 64-SP1
My issue is that my CPU ratio will not change the speed of my current CPU clock in BIOS(or real time CPUZ).  The stock CPU ratio for an AMD 9850 BE is 12.5.  I can change it to 13 (ect) and save and reboot but it will not change the CPU clock, however the cell menu shows it at x13 2600 MHz.  Its almost as if the ratio is locked and it should not be.  I can lower the Ratio to 12 changing the CPU clock to 2.4 so it is working, in a way.  When I gave bios 1.6 a try the options for CPU ration only went up to 12.5(stock).  I am starting to think that I got a locked 9850 when it came in a 9850BE box!!!   Is there a MB setting I am missing or anything?  This is starting to drive me nuts.
Any help would be great!! thank you
    PS
AOD also shows all options to change CPU Ratio grayed out.... Could having D.O.T.3 Step settings disabled mess this up?
Is There something that has to be physically set to allow this on the MB?... Which would be a 1st for me?
