Mtp nexus 5
So I'm pulling my hair out on this one..
I have already done quite a bit of googling, as well as going over many of the threads on this forum, I can see another use conceded defeat and gave up here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=177477
My phone was running the latest update on 4.4.4, but tonight I just flashed my phone to use cyongenmod. I did this for other reasons, but I really hopped it would also solve my mtp woes - NO LUCK :'(
I used to use go-mtpfs which worked for some time on my nexus 5, then a couple of months ago it stopped working (I assume after some update).
I also had the same problem on my work computer, also running arch, I don't have any windows boxes kicking around right now
I'm using libmtp 1.1.8-1 and I've tried go-mtpfs, jmtpfs, mtpfs, simple-mtpfs.
All of them, more or less, exhibit the same behavious, after mounting the program exits and the mount point is not mounted.
I can detect the phone just fine, I have up to date and correct udev rules, and I can interface with the phone with adb.
Here is from mtp-detect
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.

I hope someone has some clues, or ran into this and has a solution. My sanity would be so grateful!
jmtpfs works for me with a HTC One M8 running 4.4.4. Comparing your debug ouput above to mine:
$ jmtpfs -d htc/
Unable to read MTPZ public exponent from ~/.mtpz-data, MTPZ disabled.
Device 0 (VID=0bb4 and PID=0f25) is UNKNOWN.
Please report this VID/PID and the device model to the libmtp development team

they are identical, apart from the unknown VID/PID messages. The next line differs though - this comes up in response to a command, in this case 'ls htc/':
unique: 2, opcode: GETATTR (3), nodeid: 1, insize: 56, pid: 2854
It looks like the FORGET keyword and the absence of a pid are significant in your case, hope that helps a little.

Can't mount my Galaxy Nexus correctly with MTP
Hello everyone,
I am posting because I can't mount my Galaxy Nexus correctly and I am not sure where the problem is. I am glad for any pointers. I am basically following the Arch Linux Guide to MTP, so moving along I get these outputs:
[root@Caduceus parcival]# mtp-detect

Although it doesn't mount properly, Rhythmbox recognizes and lists the Galaxy Nexus in its GUI. I can even look at the device's properties window. Rhythmbox fails to list any files already on the Galaxy Nexus, though, and I can't transfer anything to it as the following error message in Rhythmbox appears:
Error transferring track
Unable to send file to MTP device: PTP Layer error 02ff: send_file_object_info(): Could not send object info.
Googling for Error 2 brought up some Ubuntu posts from Dec 12 when they had a bug in libmtp 1.1.1, but the current version installed on my system is 1.1.5-1 from the Arch repositories.
Thanks for any help in advance.@all: so you are basically telling me that my Galaxy nexus should properly mount despite the error messages in my Terminal?
@k.sarend: thank you, I'll try that once I get home.
@mzneverdies: interesting point... I didn't think the choice of the DE would have any impact on mounting devices, that's why I posted in the Kernel & Hardware Support section.
(on a side note: I was a Linux user from 2001-2004 and had KDE as my primary desktop. I just came back to (this time Arch) Linux two weeks ago with a new box and I decided to install Gnome since it seems to have progressed more... but really, I am open for both DEs, I'm not a fanboy/evangelist or anything) -
[SOLVED] Galaxy Nexus MTP transfers
I was successful in transfering files yesterday; however, I cannot seem to write to the device today. I initially installed libmtp and mtpfs. I am now able to mount the device and read only. Any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm running the latest versions of all the MTP libraries. There are no problems copying files on/off of it on Windows 7.
First, make sure your Nexus screen is unlocked before you attach it to USB. I've noticed lags sometimes when it was locked.

Have you tried turning USB debugging off ? (Even if libmtp cannot recognize it by name, it still detects it as Android device.)
Also on my computer, mounting via MTP sometimes only worked once or twice after rebooting. I've switched to FTP, see below.

Do you have a good link for a tutorial for this?
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Android covers most, but it is not very convenient. for syncing files, of course.
For myself, I have found an easy solution for transferring data from/to both the Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy Tab 10.1: Wireless FTP.
As a bonus, transfers over my Wifi network are much faster than by adb.
FYI, I have installed this tiny FTP server on my devices: https://market.android.com/details?id=lutey.FTPServer
Just enter any username and password (I could only get it to work with a password consisting of max. 8 alphanumeric chars.)
Set the port to 1024 or above (I chose 2121).
Choose /mnt/sdcard as default dir.
[x] restrict access to default dir and subdirectories
Carefully enable the interfaces where your FTP server should listen - I chose only my Wifi network.
When the server is started, the IP address of your device and the listening port are displayed at the top of the screen.
Now just fire up any FTP client (I use FileZilla), enter the credentials, IP and port and you're done.
Concerning security: within untrusted networks I would prefer SCP, of course. But on my trusted, WPA2-enabled home Wifi network, FTP is just fine. -
File access / transfer issue - MTP, PTP, bluetooth
I'm having issues transferring files from my Galaxy Nexus to my PC. First, here are the config of the two -
Galaxy Nexus - Verizon LTE
USB debugging enabled
PC - Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit.
Samsung ADB driver 1_4_6_0 installed.
When I connect the GNex to my PC via usb on MTP mode, all the folders show up but other than Camera, music, movies etc, other folders don't show their content...!! For example,
1) the TitaniumBackup folder. When I browse it using ES File explorer on my cell, that folder shows lots of files, all having read permissions. But the same folder in PC window shows up empty.
2) The apps backup that I created using ES Backup, located at sdcard\backup\apps - shows up on phone but not on PC.
I even connected the cell on PTP mode. But then only camera folders show up. Duh, PTP IS camera mode.
So, other than Pictures, Music and Video, I'm not able to move/copy any other file from GNex to my Pc. Geeeez, that's what MTP stands for. Media Transfer Protocol. It can't handle anything else....!!!
Next I paired my PC and GNex over bluetooth. And lo n behold, all the files show up. Pretty. But now it is "You can look but you can't touch" drama. If I try to copy anything, I get service not available error. Aparently, "Bluetooth peripheral device" driver is not installed. I tried to update those [showing up with yellow ! marks on Device manager], but no results.
Anyone else facing these issues? Any solutions? Thanks in advance guys. How do you create a LAN connection between your cell and PC? On ES File explorer, I select "LAN" from the drop-down snd then menu > New > Scan. It doesn't find anything. Then I try to manually add my PC. I provide my PC's ip address and username password on the prompt. It still gives failure. Both PC & GNex are on same wifi network and connected via usb as well. What am I doing wrong?
Also, now I'm seeing that when I connect the GNex to my PC, the folders are showing old files; even deleted files; but not new files created since last time I had connected it to the PC. I cleared the system cache and tried connecting it to different port too.. No luck... -
[Solved] mtp usage
I have just started using mtp to transfer files to my mobile phone & it works fast & flawlessly (yeah!)
My only concern is dismounting / disconnecting the phone when the transfer is complete.
Q1 is this required ? will data be corrupted if I just unplug the usb cable?
Q2 what command do I need to use ?
I have searched everywhere for an answer to above, but am drawing a blank.
ps not looking for suggestions of alternatives to mtp.
Last edited by flipper T (2013-12-17 03:29:19)Found this post (here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr … t=1469519)
Galaxy Nexus uses MTP for file Transfers in contrast to older versions that uses USB mass storage (in effect emulating an USB-Stick).
MTP is a lot safer, because the PC doesn't get to the lowlevel filesystem details, so it can't ruin them with a bad unplug.
When using MTP worst cases are when the file is still transferring it might not get saved completely. Well in theory android could get confused, but i don't think that will happen.
With USB mass storage as protocol the worst case is an unreadable file system, but that protocol isn't available on stock google nexus.
In short: It's save.
I don't do windows, but maybe that's why windows doesn't even show the icon: It not needed.
...seems applicable / will mark as solved.

Galaxy Nexus Can't mount?
First off, the galaxy nexus has no micro sd card. With my past android phones, hooking up to linux was simple. The micro sd card would mount and from there, i could open up banshee and sync, or just manage the files from thunar. Worked perfectly. But with this phone, the means of access according to the options given by the phone while plugged into usb is MTP and PTP. I dont know much about either, but it doesn't mount the phone. I cant access through thunar, I did get it to show up in banshee for a second, But banshee just crashes, while running from terminal banshee says this
[ethan@fuckyoupayme ~]$ banshee

[Solved] Nexus 5 connectivity
Right, I'm trying to connect my Nexus 5 to my laptop for USB tethering and media transfer. Now the procedure is not hard, I used to connect my xperia x10 and and my s3 just fine. I have searched and found many threads on here, on Ubuntu's forum, and xda but my problem seems to be at a lower level. The suggestions is always to install a bunch of packages (which I've done).
Here is what I've installed :qtadb, libmtp, gmtp, android-sdk-platform-tools, android-udev. I'm running Arch 64 bit (KDE) and the problem is on both my T410 and PC.
What is really worrying me is that it seems the phone is not detected in any form or shape. It just draws power from USB. Here is lsusb with the phone connected. (lsusb with the phone not connected is the same)

Nexus is running 4.4.2 stock firmware. The USB computer connection setting has been tried with PTP and MTP. I'm going nuts here and starting to think it is from my phone somehow (it connects just fine on Windows though). Different usb cables and ports have been tried. Help

Everything else on the hub shows up, but I cannot seem to find my Nexus 4. I have android-udev installed and I had no issues until around May when I reinstalled ArchLinux on the newer spin.. since then, I hadn't really had any luck with getting my Nexus 4 showing up. My issue is, because it's not being recongized by Linux itself, libmtp simply cannot communicate with my device.
Any suggestions as to what I can do? Help would be much appreciatedI've had "success" with other Nexus devices on Linux, but only with gomtpfs...
What is the output of
# mtp-detect
Also, make sure that your phone is set to use MTP and not PTP. And I don't know if it makes a difference (since I've always had it enabled on all of my devices), but see if having USB debugging enabled under the developer options makes any difference. Otherwise I have no clue if it's your system or Android keeping it from being detected.
One last thing, what exactly do you mean by
...I reinstalled ArchLinux on the newer spin
Edit: Forget what I said about making sure it's in MTP mode and having USB debugging enabled. I just tested with my Galaxy Nexus and lsusb showed it's connected even in PTP mode with USB debugging off...

Hi all,
I tried a lot of techniques to mount MTP devices (such as the latest Android devices without a SD card) automatically when plugged-in. gvfs-gphoto2 kinda worked, but for me it was dreadfully slow, and the only reliable solution, at this time, was to use go-mtpfs. But then it's not automatic, you have to type horribly complicated commands in a terminal! Yuck.
In the PKGBUILD below, a few UDEV rules to fix that. They currently only work with the devices I got (Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus, both on CyanogenMod 10), so they definitely won't work on anything else, which is why I didn't submit them right now to the AUR. I just wanted to share them in case anybody was interested. And since it's my first PKGBUILD (hurray!), do share any tips you might have regarding, oh, I don't know, something I might have forgotten, a rule I didn't know about, or something that could be done better.
Cheers!
Package source: https://github.com/fxthomas/android-aut … ter.tar.gzThanks for you Package, I was trying to use go-mtpfs and a single rules file (adapted from http://bernaerts.dyndns.org/linux/247-u … exus7-mtp) in /etc/udev/rules.d without success.
I've made a few modifications based on http://hackaday.com/2009/09/18/how-to-write-udev-rules/ in your /usr/bin/mtp file to have mount and unmount notifications under Gnome Shell.
There's a problem, unmount notifications doesn't work, if you have an idea...

esac
Another problem, if the device is locked (I'm using the schema lock) it will not mount (it try to mount, fail, then unmount), Is there a way to send a notification to the user telling him to disconnect, unlock and retry? I'm anable to find a way to do this.

Why does Android Reader smart zoom not work as described on Google Nexus 7 2013 tablet?
The smart zoom feature in Android Acrobat Reader allows you to double tap on a text column and the reader will zoom up to the column in improve readability. This feature works great on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 smart phone, but only appears to zoom half way on the Google Nexus 7 2013 tablet.
Is this a bug?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Error on nexus 7k series " operation failed.the fabric is already locked"
getting following error on nexus 7k series switch: error is " operation failed.the fabric is already locked", while removing ntp commands (no ntp server 10.101.1.1) from switch. Please help.
I had the same error message, only in my situation Outlook would only open successfully every 4 or 5 attempts. When Outlook would open (versus just hanging at the splash screen), I would get two dialog boxes with the warning/error message.
After I clicked okay I could get into Outlook.
Previously I experienced this problem running my Office 2010 client with my Exchange 2007 mailbox on my old laptop. The problem followed my mailbox through an Exchange 2010 migration (so new Exchange org), client upgrade to Outlook 2013, and a new
laptop (so I knew it wasn't a corrupt profile). This led me to the conclusion that it was a corrupt item(s) in my mailbox.
To resolve the issue, I archived *everything* in my mailbox to a PST file, ran SCANPST to fix the corruption, and then uploaded everything back into my Exchange mailbox one folder at a time, stopping after each folder to close and restart Outlook so I could
narrow down which folder had the corrupt item if the problem recurred. I'm happy to say my issue is now resolved. -
Can i return my nexus 7 it keeps restarting but i bought it 9 months ago
so i bought a nexus 7 about 9 months ago i was excited to own my first tablet so i ignored the restarting in the beginning i figured google should send a patch of some sort but till this day it actually got worse i have a receipt its a really faded but i have it i also have the box.
So main question can i return it?Hey mark79,
Welcome to the BestBuy forums! You ask a great question. avm5689 has answered most of it and gave you the information you needed.
Just for further assistance I am going to link you to the troubleshooting/helpful tip area for nexus 7 tablets

You may also join the Nexus Google Forums and ask there for further assistance.

Just curious, is this restarting constantly, or only when you do a certain item ( such as updating )
Are you able to boot your device into safe mode?
Ensure your device's screen is on, then press & hold the Power button.
Touch & hold the Power off option in the dialog box.
Touch OK in the following dialog to start safe mode.
Does the problem persist while in safe mode?
A good piece of advice though is that there are some 3rd party apps that really mess up the nexus operating system so just a FYI.
If this only restarts while the wifi is in 5ghz that is a well known issue as well.
