Multi language and Subtitles

Hi - I have been looking for some sort of tutorial about creatin gmulti language tracks and sub title tracks.  I am going to be creating a DVD and want the user to be able to select which language they want to hear the DVD in (over dubbed in different languages).  There are some areas in the DVD where, if, say German is selected, the language spoken will be German except in some areas it will still be the native language (english in this case), but with sub titles.
Can someone help me or direct me to some tutorials?
Thanks,
Roberto

I'd also make sure to post to the Subtitles sub-forum, as many of the experts in that sub-field only seem to participate in that sub-forum.
Good luck,

  • Apple TV & ITunes:  Language and Subtitle Options

I've just purchased Apple TV and, I'm disappointed that there are no movie rentals in French and that all of the movies I've checked out don't offer subtitles in French. I thought Apple TV would offer the same features that are available on regular DVDs.
I'm wondering if language and subtitle features are upcoming in ITunes?
Are there, in fact, any French language movies available in ITunes? And so, how do I find them.

that is not an appletv issue, but rather an itunes store issue.

no-one here will know what might be added to the itunes store. this is just a user-to-user support forum.

each regional itunes store is different, so it would be impossible for anyone to give an accurate answer unless they were also in the same region as you (and even then they would only have the same access to the store as you do).

  • Language and subtitles apple tv

How can I Know if the movies in the Itunes have other Language or subtitles additionals to english. I Know that when I am watching a movie in my apple TV I press and Hold the play/pause botton to look that, but before to buy or rent the movie How can I know?

While it may seem logical to have multi-language soundtracks, I suspect at risk of sounding unsympathetic that most people don't want them.
For example, if I buy a DVD I'd personally rather all the bandwidth was for picture/audio quality in a language I'd use and not have multiple languages, and although there may be novelty/eductional value in listening to a movie dubbed/subtitled in another language most wouldn't bother.
So if you translate this to downloads which are still in their infancy really, Apple would not want to tack on 10 languages/closed caption languages in a particular area unless there was good reason to - additional soundtracks could add significantly to file sizes, download times and affect bandwidth for both users and providers.
Having said that, they should be making efforts to sell movies with selectable soundtracks if available.
I'm sure it will all improve in time, but I honestly think it's a case that they're optimising file sizes to target audiences which sadly leaves minorities in a given area in the cold.
Send feedback to the iTune store about this.

  • Multi languages and Special Characters in PI

    Hi gurus
Different languages data will be coming from the source xml file and PI has to handle that data and send it to ECC  system throguh IDoc Receiver Adapter.
.our scenario is MDM to R/3. Pi file adapter is picking the xml file from source directory path.
the file encoding we have used is "ISo-8859" file type as "TEXT", we have also tried checking by giving the file name as"Binary", but we are still facing the issue.
The special characters which are showing up are Å#ó
i was trying to look at the below mentoined blog , but that blog was not availiale in sdn.
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/9420 [original link is broken]
    thanx in advance

    > i tiried as you suggested, but i do not have the access for the RFC destination in R/3 server.
I mean the RFC destination in PI, not in R/3
    > i have a doubt here
    > In the xml file received by PI, the entire data will be in English, only for two particular fields the data will be in Foreign Languages(russian, greek or any other langauge). The fields are maintained under International Version Segement.
You have to split the XML, create different IDocs by language and choose an IDoc receiver channel with tied RFC logon language
    see SAP note 745030
The customer should consider to use a unicode R/3 system when he wants to use different language descriptions.
In a non-unicode system the texts from other languages cannot be read, for example the greek characters cannot be displayed when logging on in russian. In a unicode system there is no restriction.

  • Multi Language Question

I am using SAP MDM 5.5 SP6.  The Language set to English only for my test repository and all the fields are Multi language = NO.
My understanding is that if we are loading multi language data then Repository needs to set it for multi languages and fields set to multi lang = YES.
If I am not mistaken,  I am able to load the multi Language data in English, Chinese(CN) and Portuguese (PT)  Russian(RU) etc and displayed correctly in the Data Manager.  When I syndicated as text file, it created correctly with multi Language as far as I know.
My question is, this has anything to do with the file I am loading?.
I am confused.  Anyone clarify this?

    Hi Mike,
Yep it all depends upon the file you load, what ever data is there in the file will be mapped and loaded in the field irrespective of the language, and when you make ur repository/field multilingual it does not update it, those values will stay still in the English row only.
    Cheers,
    Cherry.

  • Multi-language subtitled DVD

    Hi
I am building a multi-language DVD which contains numerous dramas all subtitled into 8 different languages. The dvd has a language selection page linking to scripts for each language and then the first of two scene selection menus. This link gives a quick overview of the scripts I've currently used.
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/dvd_languagenattress.html
The problem I have is that the order of the buttons for each language needs to be alphabetical which means that a link which is on menu 1 for the English subtitle is on Menu 2 for the German subtitles. I can programme the DVD to take the user back to Menu 1 German as a default but not to menu 2.
My knowledge of scripting is quite simple but I have tried adding a script which resets the GPRM for the second menu when accessed from the first menu. I thought this would then set a differnt GPRM reference for the return to submenu script to read. However this failed to work in the simulator.
Any help or useful advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind regards
    Dan Creed

    A suggestion: Submit a
    feature request
for access to GPRMs. :) A GPRM (General PaRaMeter) is a variable which can be set and evaluated. In this case you could have used it to check from which menu the user came and return to that menu.
Other than that the only solution I can think of is to create multiple versions of the chapter menus. If the menus aren't motion menus the extra DVD disc space required will be minimal, but it will be a lot of extra work.

  • Win 8.1. Core language and multi-language support.

    HI,
I've used a US developed program with multi-language support for years in Win XT and Win 7. As the program now supports win 8.1. I've upgraded to 8.1. and the new release of the program. However it will not work properly and the reason given is
that my version of 8.1. has a different core language compared with what  the program uses and this version is not multi-language supported. Now I wonder if there are various versions of  the core language in 8.1. or is the core
language unique, supported by various language packets for menu's, guiding texts, etc.  Why do I then need a multi-language supported program? Where can I put this question?
    Regards
    Sverre

    I'd probably try them here.

  • Screen dims and multi-language "restart" message appears

Currently, every time Safari is used, the entire screen dims and a multi-language (German, Chinese, etc.) message comes on the screen saying that I must physically power down my machine and restart. No error message is given, nor are any other options allowed, as the keyboard and mouse are rendered useless.
I have rebooted the machine several times, including powering down the cable modem, but the problem persists.
This problem has occurred in the past, but seemed to clear itself, only to reoccur starting yesterday (23 Sep 05). I can't shake the feeling that this problem is more in the OS X arena than in Safari's, but testing does not seem to bear out my feelings - all other installed applications appear to run properly and this phenomenon of screen dimming with forced power down and restart does not occur with other applications.
    Any thoughts? Thanks! Bob Meyer.

    I suggest the following:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
If you continue to have the problem, then reinstall the OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo) updater.

  • Ultrasearch and Portal Multi-language

Does Ultrasearch provide any integration to the multi-language support in Portal? If a Portal user is working in French, does a Portal search return only the French content from the Portal Repository? Also, is there a way to specify language in the search?

Does Ultrasearch provide any integration to the multi-language support in Portal? If a Portal user is working in French, does a Portal search return only the French content from the Portal Repository? Also, is there a way to specify language in the search? UltraSearch will crawl Portal and take into account language information. However, the support for Portal item and page translations is not yet fully implemented. This means that UltraSearch will only be able to crawl a multilanguage portal in one language at the moment.
Portal search has full support for translations and will return content in the language of the user that initiated the search.
In 902 there is no way to restrict the search by language other than by logging in to the Portal in a different language.

  • Multi language support for reports and prompts labels

Is there a way to configure reports prompts labels with session\presentation variables,
in order to support multi language interface?

    Deepak,
    It works fine..i have tested.
    Nir,
Here is the solution for your requirement
    Requirement1
I want to label the listbox with X, where X is either 'Categories' or 'Products'.1.In your rpd, create a new session variable init block
    Name : DynamicName
Query: select case when ':USER' = 'USER1' then 'REGION1' else
CASE WHEN ':USER' = 'USER2' THEN 'REGION2' end end from dual
Assign the above query’s result to a session variable; DISP_NAME
2.Double click on the presentation column(in presentation layer) that is supposed to change dynamically->check the box ”Custom Display Name” -> Type in VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION. DISP_NAME)
3.With the assumption that you already have created a prompt with the above column, login as USER1, you will see the prompt label as 'REGION1' (value is fetched from the session block query).Similarly login as ‘USER2’ and check the prompt label to show 'REGION2'
    This solves the first requirement.
    Requirement2
On the dashboard I would like to present the title: 'Report by X', where X is either 'Categories' or 'Products'.1.Navigate to your report in answers
2.Add a column with the formula, case when VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.USER)='USER1' THEN 'Report by Categories' when VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.USER)='USER2' THEN 'Report by Product' else 'Your custom/default title’ end
3.Add a narrative view to the report (remove the existing title view) and the give the reference as the column added in step 2.Save the report.
4.Logout and login as USER1, you can see the report title as 'Report by Categories' and for USER2 , it will be 'Report by Product'
Let me know if this solves your issue.
    Rgds,
    Dpka

  • Multi-Language Project Updates and Translations (RH11)

I have a several projects that are multi-language. One in particular is translated in 20 different languages. Based on RoboHelp's suggested method for creating projects in multi-languages, I created the topics first in English, then made a copy of each topic selecting the desired language in the properties. However, now when the software changes, I have to make the same changes 20 times and it's very time consuming. My translators don't have RoboHelp so I can't send them the English and their language file for comparison and have them make the changes. Does anyone have any suggestions on simplifying this process?
In addition, when I send the .html files to the translators, I ask them to use Notepad, WordPad, or some other HTML editor to retain the formatting, links, etc. If they use Word, I loose all this information and have to copy and paste their text which is also time consuming. Has anyone had success with files translated in Word?  What application is recommended for translating .html files?

They take your English content, translate it into whatever languages you want and save the originals. Then the next time you give them the English content, they compare it with the original on file & only concentrate on what changes have been made, thus saving all the expense of translating the entire set over again. TRADOS is one of the big names out there – see http://www.sdl.com/products/sdl-trados-studio/ for their explanation of “translation memory”

  • PORTAL MULTI-LINGUAL AND CHANGE LANGUAGE PROBLEM

I need to implement language change in portal. I can't use the standard Set Language portlet, because my language change mechanism should involve redirection to an other portal page. Is there any API I can use to implement language change behavior? (Example code would be greately appreciated.)
In some cases I need to force the language of some specific portal pages, regardless of the current language setting of the portal. Is there any way to achieve that? I've experience with the default language setting of the page groups, but I've found that the portal ranks this setting below the current language setting of the portal and the "Accept-Language" header of the browser request. I've been thinking of hacks like a servlet filter or an apache mod tricking with the headers (Accept-Language) and cookies (NLS_LANGUAGE) of the browser request, but that's not so clean. So do I have any options to force the language?

I think it's this answer comes late for you, but If anyone it's interested, we use (in version 10.1.4) this function:
    PORTAL.wwctx_app_language.set_language(p_http_language => 'es-es',
                                                           p_nls_language => PORTAL.wwnls_api.SPANISH,
                                                           p_nls_territory => PORTAL.wwnls_api.TER_SPAIN,
                                                           p_requested_url => url);
Where 'url' is the url you want to come back.
Remember you can call any function/procedure by the url: /portal/pls/porta/squema.name_of_the_proc, where you have to substitute squema and name_of_the_proc by tyhe ones you need to call (don't forget privileges).
    Good luck

  • DSP3: Multi Language DVD Menus

    Hi All,
here I am to tell about my doubt in the an International DVD authoring, trying to figure out the correct workflow procedures.
So I have 7 languages, 5 menus and 1 video with 7 subtitles stream.
In my case, I'd like to use the internal language menu layout that could be great,
but I think that can be used only with the internal DVD player language configuration.
I'd like to put a language selection menu at start-up, instead, how can I do?
The Apple manual is very light in this section...
Many Thanks an advance and best regards.
    Paul

last time i had to make a multi language dvd i dropped the language in DVD SP and managed it with GPRM from the first language select menu.
Also tutorial here http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/dvd_languagenattress.html, looks the same as my workflow.

  • Oracle 9i Support for multi language is not working.. Giving question mark

    HI,
We have an application which uses oracle 9i as the database. Riight now we are supporting only english and there is a requirement to support multiple languages like korean, chineese and japaneese.
But we are planning to migrate one part of the application to support multi languages. Means it may affect around 10 tables but with huge data. Totally we have around 100 tables.
How to enable the database for supporting multiple langugages.?
Is there any way to enable only the few tables supporting multiple languages. Because if we change the database level parameters for supporting languages, we may need to migrate entire tables. this will be a huge task.
Even if want to set the parameters for supporting multiple languages.. how to set it. Is it possible set it in the existing database or do we need to re-create the table with these prameters.
I have read in some documentation, that we can create table columns with nVarchar2 for supporting multi languages. I have created it. but if i copy some other language characters into those columns, it is giving question mark.
Is it possible to do search using text in native langugage like chineese..
Could somebody guide me on the above clarificationa and what would be the best approach..
    Thanks in advance

You should not use any more Oracle 9.0.1 but at least Oracle 9.2.0.8 to get some extended support if you really cannot upgrade to 10g.
I don't have any Oracle 9.x database available but I've run successfully following test with Oracle 10.2.0.1 in character mode under Linux:

  • Multi language web site

    Multi language web site
What is the best way to have my web site switchable (initially from links on the main index.html page) between different languages?
Do I simply clone the English version (including all the sub-directories and structure) into a sub-directory and translate each page and put a link on the main index.html page to a translated copy of the index.html page in the German sub-directory
That would mean I effectively have two websites to maintain.
More when it is translated into more languages.
Currently all the English pages are made from a template (dwt file)
I assume this adds a level of complication to the design.
Or is there a better/easier way?
    thanks

This is a website that the client did not continue with http://ncca.com.au/new/, hence it has not been finished.
In the top right hand corner are two flags, Dutch and English. By clicking on a flag, the language session variable is changed. This session variable is used througout the website to determine the content as in
    if ($_SESSION['lang'] == 'en') {include("home_en.php");}
    if ($_SESSION['lang'] == 'nl') {include("home_nl.php");}
If there are more languages it is better to use the select switch rather than an if statement.
