Multi-Language Planning application - How to build?

Hello,
I might need to create a multi-language application for English, Spanish, and French users. I understand that installation localization will support multi-language user interface. However I need pointers on how to go about creating an app with minimal maintenance.
How do deal with following?
-> Member names: This can be handled through alias tables.
-> Web forms : Should we create similar forms in different languages?
-> Reports: Similar reports in different languages?
-> Business Rules / Calcs: how display names in different langugaes?

You only want a single WindowedApplication component in an
AIR application. For the other windows, use the Window component.
You can then create this window object in response to the user's
menu selection. See

Multi Currency planning Application(Xchange rate not pushed to Essbase)

In planning Application "ABC"
If i change the values manually in "EXCHANGE RATE TABLE"
after i refresh the data into the Essbase
and run "HSPCRTB"
the value changes in the Spreadsheet... (i.e Exchange rates are visible)
But when i follow the same process for the n Planning Application "XYZ"
The Spreadsheet is not showing the Xchange rate values..
"XYZ" this application is built 2 years ago but.. this is the first time i am using for currency.
i.e Exchange rates.. values to input
Is there anything i need to do for the first time when i input the FX rates and push into the essbase?
Can you please suggest me for further process of
"Xchange rates to be visible in Essbase" ?

Thanks for the Reply,
Both of them are Multi currency Applications, i used Exchange rate table in both the applications
and also the rates are assigned to scenarios and after the refreshing the Database,
there is only one default currency script generated in EAS console for each DB, i.e "HspCRtB"
I run that script after i refreshed
But the rates are not populated into the essabse cube.
I am stuck over there... please do give me suggestion if u find anything else left out, that i missed.

I want to save some values as multilanguage.
There are my solutions:
my database table is:

property:

propertyml:
1. Property_id

my form:

But I'm facing problem.
How to save one moment "property" and "properyml" entity to database? Because when createinsert moment we don't have "ID of property table", i can't give property_id to propertyml table.
First i commit property entity to db, it is OK. But one moment, i haven't no idea.

You should first have an association between tour property and propertyml entities.
Then you need to create a VO With property entity.
Then add propertyml entity and check updatable
In attributes and the propertyml fields you want to file.
into you entity association, don't forget to check composition association and cascade update key attributes into relationship tab (*behavior*)
This will managed your created property id into your propertyml.

Multi Window AIR Application - How to Call

I am new to Adobe AIR so please forgive my ignorance. I want
to create a multi-window air flex application. The scenario is like
I have a window with menu options. When user selects a menu option,
I have to open another window with corresponding application in it.
I have created two applications inside a flex project. Each
application has <mx:WindowedApplication> as its root
component. My question is how to call the 2nd application from the
1st one? I tried SWFLoader but does not seem to work. Any help is
creatly appreciated.

Is there a single, multi-language translation application available?

I am looking for a single application that allows you translate between the major European languages (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portugese).
The best example I can give is the Franklin Translator I had on my Palm TREO. It was one app, it allowed you to enter a word in English and translate it into French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Portugese, or go between any of the languages (i.e. French to German, etc.). It was a very useful application for people that travel in Europe frequently. I supplemented it with SmallTalk which contained useful phrases for travel, hotel, dining, etc. and I was set for survial in Europe.
I have searched the App Store, the Franklin site, and paid for and downloaded numerous applications, but none seem to meet the criteria. After purchasing the Jourist Phrasebook, I saw that it allowed me to select a language to translate from, so I was hoping that as you added Jourist languages, it would be accessible froma single interface, but it is all individual applications. I also looked at the Ultralingua product.
The web-based tools are not effective alternatives as you'll blow through your international data plan in one day when traveling.
Any help, insights, or experience is appreciated!

I don’t think Flex 3 could be more
‘unstable’ than Flex 2 – just cruise through
these forums. I have moved a few projects to Flex 3 (including the
ones that I’m working on in 2-3 languages) and have not had
any problems. There are some cool things about Flex 3 that I am
just discovering: besides the Runtime Localization features, I like
the fact that you can use both versions 2 & 3 of the SDK, so
all the Flex 2 projects you may now have will still work as they
are – all you have to do is import them into FB3.

Multi Language Support on UI

Hi Folks,
I want to store the multiple language descriptions in to Database and then want to display that specific language description (like Japanese or Arabic) on UI using JSPs.

Multi Language Pattern?

Is there a multi language pattern existing?
We build a ERP software with a framework which is on top of EJB. The applications have to support multi language since the applications will be used in different countries.
For example there is an Article value object which has an attribute 'description' which needs to support descriptions in many languages.
There are many of such multi language attributes in our ERP software. If we would be put them all in an own table in the database, then we would have many, many tables. So we think of putting all the multi language attribute data in one table.
If someone knows a pattern which is suitable for this purpose, please tell me. But please remember that we use a framework which is on top of EJB.

Level0 Extract using MaxL from Multicurrency Planning application

I have a multi currency Planning application with 2 Dense and 6 SParse dimension.

when i am running the level0 export using a maxL scrit to get data in Column format, it is generating all memebr in Column except Currency which is going to header
and data in getting displayed in 3 separate culumn

how can get the data in one column and want currency dimension also dispaly in a column as other dimension.. any thought..

If it is a standard level0 export you cannot change the format of the extract.

In the load rule in the dimension build settings you would need to go to the tab dimension definition, choose the time dimension and right click on it. Select Edit properties. If you have not done so, set the dimension to be the time dimension. Then go to the generations/levels tab and set the generation names you need. For example if you want YTD, you would set the generation name to Year, if you want QTD set it to Quarter. You would set the number to the generation number that coorisponds to the generation. The DBAG has the list of names for all of the DTS members.

Bsaically by using resource bundles - more detail than that would depend on the actual technologies you are using and the type of application.
Struts for instance has specific Tags for displaying strings out of a resource bundle. JSTL has other tags and JSF does it another way - but they all use resource bundles as properties files or java classes.

Multi Language Solution (not by use of "Translate Application")

I try to implement a "multi language" functionality into my APEX Application but want to avoid the "Translate Application" method.
As I'm not very keen in JavaScript and PL/SQL Coding, I need your help.
What I want to do:
I have a table tbl_lang (var varchar2(20), lang_en varchar2(50), lang_de varchar2(50), lang_fr varchar2(50)).
It contains the name of a variable "var" that shall be filled with the Item Titles in the preselected language (de, fr or en).
The language can be chosen from a select list an dependent of the chosen language I do a "select var, lang_*en* from ... " or a "select var, lang_*de* from ... " and I fill my variable with the dependent language.
Each Item on my Page has the variable set instead of a written Title.
The Title of the Item Surname is for example &P2_LANG_SURENAME. and has the Value is "Surename" or "Vorname" or "Prénom".
The Problem ist:
I don't want to define a hidden Item for each Variable.
Is it possible to read the translations from the tbe_lang and fill a bunch of variables or an array that I can use within the Apllication without binding it to a hidden Item?

I’m not sure what you mean by redeploy. The principle of the APEX translation mechanism is that you have your primary language application, which contains all your application logic. For each extra language, the APEX engine creates a language mapping application (a shadow copy as you call it) which contains a copy of your application logic and all the relevant translations to the underlying language. The translation mechanism includes a seed process which synchronize all the changes made to your primary language application (which is the only application you are working on) and also generate a XLIFF file that contains all the translatable components of your application. When you are done translating the XLIFF file, you can use the APEX translation mechanism to publish the new version and translation.
Moreover, the APEX translation mechanism also allows you to translate all the APEX engine internal messages, which you can’t do by yourself.
If by deployment you mean installing the multi-lingual application in a new APEX instance, working with the APEX translation mechanism means that you’ll need to install 3 (in your case) separate applications. The primary language application (which can also include all the supporting object) and simple import of all the other translated applications.
From my own experience I can assure you that working with the APEX translation mechanism is much much more simpler, easier and efficient than the road you want to take, not to mention the far more simple (and central) maintenance options. Your way – specific PL/SQL code for each language – can be a maintenance nightmare.
Also, bear in mind (and I believe this was your original question) that you’ll need to maintain a hidden item for every page component with a label, e.g. page items, buttons, tabs, report headers, etc. You’ll probably need to use some dynamic SQL functions otherwise you’ll have to deal with each component separately. In other words, you’re not only want to reinvent the wheel (as all of it has already been done by the development team) you are not dealing with very small and basic wheel, but something far more complicated.
From your response to my questions, I understand that you never experience the use of the APEX translation mechanism. I think you should try it. You can use apex.oracle.com for that. Develop a simple application that includes all the component types you going to use (Forms, Reports, Tabular Forms, IR etc.) and see how you can handle it all. Only then, you should decide what road to take.
As I said in my first post, what you are asking is probably doable. The question is whether you need to do it.

I'd suggest using Flash Media Interactive Server if you wish to make this type of application and use Flash as the interface. I can't give you the details on exactly how to implement it, but using Remote Shared Object and FMIS would serve as the basis. I believe that the package comes with examples of Shared Objects that can serve as a simple basis from which to proceed. After that you might want to see if you can find an available whiteboard app that can be leveraged to do as you wish.
I apologize in advance if using this type of solution is a non-starter, I've been using FMIS locally and have plans to eventually implement something similar to this type of drawing app as well.
