Multi Rs232 connections

Hi,
I developed a small test bench her equipments controlled by RS-232. The test will be done with TestStand and LabWindows. I want to use multiple ports RS-232, which communicate with Labwindows (DLLs). I want to know if is possible to keep these connections open simultaneously, or can not do that. If we can do that, Do you recommend this method or it's better to open and close a connection every time I order equipment.
Thanks

Thanks for your response,
As I have said from the beginning, I have several materials (DMM, SCOPE, PowerSupply ...) are all controlled by RS232. So the test sequence every time communicates with one of these materials. My question is it's better to keep the communication open with all hardware and each time I access the requested material or I have to open and close communication with one material selected during the test sequence.
Thanks

  • AT Commands over Bluetooth RS232 Connection

Hi all and thank you in advance.
I am trying hard to locate security related information about the following. If I establish an RS232 connection with a mobile phone through Bluetooth, is it possible then to utilize that connection to issue AT commands to the mobile phone in order to invoke the cellular modem? I have the impression that under MIDP such functionality is deliberately restricted for security reasons. Is this true?
PS.I know there are similar posts in the forum but non of them has been answered so I’m giving it a try.
    Once again... thank you.

  • Sending binary file via RS232 connection

    Hi,
I want to send a binary file via RS232 connection but I have troubles reading the .bin file and then converting the data to string in order to send it via RS232. Any ideas how i can deal with this?
    Thanks in advance,

It is hard to help then you do not post any code. I suggest you go to the toolbar then help. Then you select Find Examples. Search for files. Also since you are new to Labview always have context help enabled. Both tools are important if you want to learn Labview. Feel free to post again if you are stuck.

  • How to get status of an rs232 connection

    Hi,
I am trying to read out the status of on RS232 connection.
    How can I do this?
Moreover would it be great to make the handshake visible! Is there a way that I can do that?
I would like to make a program something like where I can push a button "connect", get the status that i am connected and then make it possible to send some data....
I would really thank you if you can help me.
    Sincerely Tim

The more fundamental problem is that except for an indication of whether or not it has been initialized and perhaps the number of bytes in the port buffer, a serial port doesn't have any sort of real status. RS232 communications simply isn't that sophisticated. For what it's worth, unless the device you are working with is very old, monitoring the handshake lines probibly won't tell you anything because most modern serial device don't use any handshaking.

  • How to keep alive RS232 connection

Hello everyone. I have a problem with RS232 communication. To activate the connection I have to send the string "RS232", then to keep it alive I have to send every second CR, but in the meantime, I must be able to send other character strings without delay on the same port (COM7). Can anyone help me?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

RS232 standard does not require by itself to be kept alive someway, so I suppose is your remote device that requires it.
In every case, you could create a 1-sec timer and have its callback send CR periodically over the serial port.
To avoid conflicts between this task and the rest of the application you could use a lock: basically, after creating the lock, each function that wants to access the serial port must call CmtGetLock (), operate on the port and call CmtReleaseLock () afterwards. If the lock is owned by another function, other functions trying to get access are frozen waiting for the lock, so you must be careful in designing com-related function so that they are fast. If you do not want to have some function be blocked while waiting for the lock you can use CmtTryToGetLock instead of CmtGetLock. A few informations on locks can be found in this tutorial as well as in this chapter of the Programmer reference.

  • Multi-page connections

    Hi,
This is the first time i use the multi-sheet option in multisim and i have a problem. I want to use the same net on different sheets. I know that i need to use off-page connectors to realize this but i can only use 1 off-page connecter per net name per sheet but i need to use more per sheet.
How can i connect different lines to the same net on different sheets? If i use the bus option, i need to draw an offline bus connector and a bus line every time when i want to connect the same nets.
    Can someone help me out?

Hai  Hg, (i guess you are from holland )
I found a solution. It's possible to use more off-page connectors.
I connected the off page connector to a net and then i renamed the net, not the  connector , and that's it. The funy thing is that when i called NI in Holland they said is is not possible.

  • RS232-Connection / dial guage

    Hi!
I would like to connect a dial gauge per rs232 to labview7.1. But it doesn´t work. The manual says, that the signal "dtr" has to be low for 140ms. then the data will be automatically sent by the equipment. But how can i program the dtr signal individually? I am programming with the visa controls. I thought that this would be the simplest way to programming rs232. is there another simple opportunity to program the rs232-dtr-signal in labview7.1?
    Thanx for all
    Timmy

thanx a lot. but it isnt running. always i get an error while reading the visa! i attached my vi incl. the interface description. perhaps anyone can detect some missed basic details?! I am really glad about every tip i can get.

  • Multi USB connections - Advice please.

Soon I will be upgrading my G4 to a Mac Pro.
I am very inexperienced when it comes to connections, etc.
At present, my G4 has approximately 7 USBs connections via an old external Belkin hub.
I am guessing the transfer speed will be slow if I used it on the Mac Pro?
Please, can anyone give advice on how to collect these USB's. Should I purchase a multi USB PCI card?
    Thanks from the UK.

    Hi mooblie,
It's all digital, and if it works at all, it's likely to be working at full spec.
With respect, mooblie, your argument does not hold water.
Not all cables handle digital signals equally. Signal quality deteriorates over distance. The longer the cable, the more important it is to have the best quality interconnect. Also, the best quality interconnects have better quality plugs, which again have an effect on the signal.
And, if what you are saying was true, why does every single Hi Fi/Audio/Video/TV magazine conclude otherwise in their reviews of digital interconnects and video cables.
For instance the difference in image and sound quality varies tremendously between different HDMI cables. The very best are the most expensive, and not justifiable in a budget home cinema system. A mid-range system warrants a decent HDMI cable, starting from around £50.00 ($78) upwards (think QED Qunex). Some of the HDMI cables around that price are good enough to be used with more expensive systems, but the very best home cinema systems will benefit from the very best, but more costly, video cables.
Likewise with Hi Fi system interconnects, whether analogue or digital, and with loudspeaker cables.
A budget system justifies the use of interconnects up to a certain price level, but go above that level and you are wasting your money. A mid-range system deserves better interconnects, but again only up to a certain price level. Top-end hi-fi systems warrant the very best, and most expensive cables.
Those who invest in the best interconnects for their budget,mid-range/top-end systems, within the respective price bands suitable for each category, reap the benefits of improved image and sound quality, and in many cases the improvement is vast.
The Mac Pro is a top-end workstation, in my opinion the best there is, and justifies the use of top quality, and even the very best, interconnects. Particularly where the best image and print quality are a necessity.
Fortunately, USB 2.0/Firewire 800 prices bear no comparison to those of video/audio cables. Even the very best USB 2.0 cables cost no more, if not less, than budget system rated video/audio interconnects.
Incidentally, I have spent less than £50.00 ($78) on top of the range USB 2.0 cables, with the most expensive being a 3m Lindy Premium Gold (currently £18.99/$29), which runs from one of the Mac Pro's rear ports to my Epson Stylus Pro 3880 A2 Colour Inkjet Printer.
It is imperative that I obtain the absolute, best quality print up to A2 size, and I am obtaining this with my system via an interconnect costing a fraction of the cost of the printer.
It is a case of horses for courses. If the cables which are supplied with whatever ancillary equipment you are using are inadequate (most are, and some devices do not even come with any), buy the best interconnects you can afford.

    Bill

    Anyone can suggest me something?
    Thanks

  • Multi WAN connection Session with Online Banking loses the connection

    Hello,
I configured a new RV016 with ADSL ports and tested basicly the function. Everything seems to be working until one person discribed me an error while he tries to establish an online banking connection. After he enters the credentials and klick to OK, the step verifying should follow, an error message appears:
    In german:
Ihre InternetBanking-Sitzung wurde aus Sicherheitsgründen beendet.
    Folgende Gründe können vorliegen:
Sie haben zu lange keine Eingaben vorgenommen.
Ihre Internet-Verbindung wurde vorzeitig beendet. Dies kann durch zu niedrig eingestellte Zeitlimite
    bei DSL-Routern oder Internet-Verbindungs-Tools auftreten.
    In English
Your Internatbanking is due to security reason terminated.
You have not done any enties for a long time
Your Internet connection was terminated prematurely. This can happen if idle time configuration on the DSL router is set to low.
A friend of me who is Firewall specialist told me that the router with multi WAN Ports and configured with load balancing automatically has these kind of problems as the packages will forwarded through multiple WAN ports and the online banking understands it as disruption of the connection.
I set the keep connection to 5 sec and to the WAN Ports to intelegence balancer or IP groups (but not configured) , nothing solved the problem.
Can anybody give me some advises or help me to solve this problem?
    many thanks and best regards
    Nevzat

Sorry, but I have the exact same problem.  It is not a problem with Battlefield's servers as it is actually affecting all online games...and it is not affecting 15-20 neighbors who are FIOS customers.  When a neighbor hosts a game online, only my connection fails.  When I host a game, it fails for everyone.  When I am not in the party, nobody has a problem
I have FIOS connected to the router via coaxial cable.  I've had FIOS for 6 years without a single problem.  Then 1 month ago my kids reported that when playing Xbox Live they are "lagging out" and having to turn the xbox on/off.  The Xbox is connected via CAT5.  Also, when a laptop, iphone or ipad are connected via wifi, the connection is lost and a reboot of the device is required.  I did factory resets and every other suggested step to no avail.  Through it all, my desktop that is connected to the router via CAT5 experienced no problems.
I contacted VZ several times and they sent a new router.  Things looked better for 1 day, now it's actually worse.  The problems now affect the desktop's connection.  Sporadically, all internet connectivity is lost.  I then have to reboot the router.  However, after rebooting the router, any device trying to connect to the internet, via CAT5 or wifi, gets an "invalid IP address" type of error message.  I have screenshots at home which I'll add later.
Extremely frustrating, esp when contacting customer service as they go through the same script - reboot router, send a signal.  Factory reset modem, send a signal.  After that, they have no suggestions and simply try to get you off the line

    Hi,
While Creating Multidatasources we have 2 options for *"Algorithm Type"*
1). Failover --------------------------> In your case u must select this one.
    2). LoadBalancing
So if you will choose LoadBalancing then Weblogic will try to get Connections from Both the DataSources one by one in a Round-Robin fashion. I think it may be happening in your case.
If you want Failover feature ...means Only one datasource should provide the Connections until it becomes unavailable....Once the First DataSource becomes Unavailable or Database goes down ...then WebLogic's Multidatasource feature will failover to another available datasources available in the List.
U can even try controlling Failover on your Own....http://weblogic-wonders.com/weblogic/2010/05/15/controlling-multidatasource-failover/

  • Multi building connection and sharing

I have a small business that has three buildings. Due to the buildings having storm windows/brick etc. trying to create a wireless network between all three buildings has been possible, but not something overly robust.
All three buildings need to share resources, printers and file sharing resources.
I was thinking of wiring each of the buildings and then doing a wireless router in each building as an access point, but from what I have read so far it seems there are limitations on filesharing.
Has anyone tried something like this before.
I'm not neccessary looking to create three segments, is it possible to get 3 linksys WRT54GS routers. Have one that my ISP connects to (parent) and hardwire the other two routers to it (children). Then the computers would connect to which ever wireless router was in the building. It sounds like I would have to turn off DHCP services on the two child routers.
Does anyone have any experience in this? would it work?

Well I had a standard wired router/DSL modem with 2 PC's sharing the internet and bought a wireless Laptop. I was given a WRT54GS and at first thought I could replace the old router with it however I then found out the WRT54GS wasn't a standalone DSL modem so I effectively made it run as a wireless acces point. I only use the network for internet sharing but I don't see why it wouldn't also let me share files and printers. When I check the DHCP Clients table on the old parent router it lists all the PC's connected to the network by MAC address and IP address whether they are connected to the child or parent router so it looks like everything has full functionality.

Before purchasing the H7000 i noticed that it says that it supports 2 connecting to two devices.
Now that I bought it and after going through the setup guide which is not very helpful I would like to know how to connect to two devices?
I tried pairing both consecutively but it seems like it only connects to the last paired device.
Please let me know if there is a way to connect to two devices at once.

  • Multi SSL connections in one application

In my web application I have two servlets, any of them call different web services. The protocol is HTTPS, so how can I tell them to use different trust and keystores? Or if I should use common keystore, how can I use something like keyAlias to show on any servlet to use different PrivateKey if there is client authentication.
For now my code in every servlet is:
                   System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStoreType", "");
                   System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStore", "");
                   System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStorePassword", "");
                   System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStoreType", "");
                   System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStore", "");
                   System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword", "");
    Ofcourse with appropiate values.
But that works only for the first servlet witch is called.
    Please help.

The protocol is HTTPS, so how can I tell them to use different trust and keystores? Why would you want to do that?
Or if I should use common keystore, how can I use something like keyAlias to show on any servlet to use different PrivateKey if there is client authentication. Why?
There is no reason in the world to use different truststores or keystores. All that this PKI does is establish identity. Whether the applications concerned should trust that identity in specific contexts is an application question that can't be resolved via keystores and truststores and different private keys. This is a common misconception. It's not what they are for, it's not what they are designed to do, and you can't use them for that purpose securely.

    It's missing Untitled Library 1.
What does  "not execute properly" mean?  Waht is it doing or not doing and what are you expecting it to do?
I see a problem in the TCP-IP subVI client.  Why are you enqueueing an element then immediately dequeueing it?  Then you proceed to to enqueue it again after the subVI ends.  But you have a parallel loop where you dequeue the element.  You've got a race condition.  One of two things could happen.
    1.  The data gets enqueued and dequeued inside the subVI.  When it ends, it gets enqueued again in the same queue.  Then the parallel loop could dequeue it and work with it.  I'm guessing if this order of execution happens, it probably behaves properly for you.
    OR.
    2.  The data gets enqueued inside the subVI.  The parallel loop with the dequeue is sitting there waiting for something, dequeues the element and works with.  Then the dequeue inside the subVI sits there forever waiting for an element in the queue that will never come because now you've locked up the code.  The loop can't iterate to ever get more data in the queue.
You have a lot of strange queue operations going on in that subVI and another subVI in the parallel loop.  Why are you obtaining another reference to the queue, flushing it, then releasing that queue reference.  I'm not even going to try to guess how that would complicate the 2 scenarios I already listed above.
I suggest looking at more queue examples to understand how they work.  Any given queue should only have 1 dequeue operation, otherwise the dequeues will race to steal the data from each other.
