Multicam editing and expanded audio components

Hi. I will try to describe the issue I am having:
1. I am editing a multicam clip and have expanded the audio components
2. I make a video only switch to another angle (from angle A to angle B)
3. I decide I want to move my video edit point slightly so I use the trim tool ('T') to move the video edit to the left or right
4. The audio edit point does not move with the video edit point while the audio components are expanded, leaving the edit point for the video offset from the edit point for the audio.
Is there a way I can slide the edit point for video and audio together OR do I need to collapse the audio components before I do this?
Thanks

Depending on how often you want to do this, it might get tedious, but:
Hold down the Alt key and click on the audio portion you want to change; this will select just the audio clip. Right-click on it, go to Multi-Camera, and then select the camera you want to use for audio. The video will stay whatever you had originally edited into place, but the audio will be pulled from the other camera.
If you want to use audio from a specific camera for the whole edit, there is an option in the multicam monitor flyout menu called "Audio Follows Video." If you uncheck that, you can pick what audio track you want to use at the bottom of the MC monitor. Premiere will add edits, but the audio will always be from the camera you specified. I'm not sure which option you're really after, but hopefully that helps.

  • Expand Audio Components

It is possible expand audio components in multicam editing?  I try make correction  in one channel, but I cannot.

Yes I was set dual mono, both angles, but I can only expand audio/video, not audio components. It's grey.

  • How to move Left and Right audio components

At a performance, there was a delay between what my camera recorded from a soundboard on the left track and what it recorded from a shotgun mic on the right track.
I want to move each track (Right and Left) independent of each other using FCP 10.1.2
So far I have successfully changed the audio from Stereo to Dual Mono and I have Expanded Audio Components.
I am not able to move either track.  No matter wether position or arrow is selected I looks like a range selection over the track and it will not move.
Any help would be greatly apreciated!

Yes, that screen shot of your Cam5 video and its right and left audio being staggered is exactly what Im trying to do.  Im sorry I have not been able to describe this better.
It was the “Detach Audio” option that was giving the messy appearance.
This time I only made two adjustments done in the Timeline.
    I followed these two steps:
         1.  I select the clip on the Timeline and chose “Expand audio components”
         2.  Then selected the video clip again and chose “Dual Mono”
Here is a screen shot of what it looks like now:
Just like before, I can manipulate the audio levels but when I attempt to drag either audio a box is drawn over the clip that looks like the “range select” tool.  This happens when I have either arrow or position is selected.  Nothing can be moved.  I tried these two basic steps on my other computer using an older version of FCPX and get the same result.
The work around that I described above allowed me to finish this project by my deadline but this is still something I would like to learn since it’s a pretty basic function of FCP that I need to be able to do a lot.
Thank you Tom for your continued help and guidance.

  • Multicam Editing and Audio

    Hello Forum,
does anyone know if there a way to select a different audio track separately from the video track when editing in the multicam mode?
For example, if there a way for an editor to have a video from Camera 1 and Sound from Camera 2?
Would appreciate a direct technique or a workaround suggestion.

  • FCP 5.0 Multicam editing and main sound

I have 3 angles shots. How do I leave a main sound from camera 1 in the time line when when I do multicam editing?
Do I first do only video cuts and bring the main sound in or it can be done differently?
    Thanks.

I didn't feel like going through the manual either on this one --- here's what I do, which is by no means the easiest automatic thing.
After I drag my multiclip to the timeline, I grab the track I want audio from and place it with the multiclip. A couple locks & unlocks, a couple of deletes, and I've got the multiclip video with the audio from the track I want audio from.
It's not the automatic thing, but I generally am working with 2+ hour long multiclips, and only have to go through this once per project.

  • Multicam editing and live art

I've been doing a little bit multicam editing with FCPX now and when using multiple cameras on a single occasion everything goes nice and smooth. But now I have a different kind of situation that I need some good ideas with. I have been shooting a live art performance with a single camera in multiple occasions and I want to cut them as a one multiangled video. The thing is, the show is never quite the same. There is (pre-recorded) music and dance that always goes the same, but there is speech and other not beat-by-beat stuff in between. Syncing is a nightmare since the whole thing is unsyncable.
I am now open for all kinds of ideas, so keep them coming. Should I edit every music/dance-piece by themselves as a multicam clip, export, import and put together in a new project? The speech parts might be undoable with multicam tool, but that won't need lots of cuts anyway. I've been trying a bit of this and that, but have no idea what would be most convenient way to do this. I think some kind of splitting into scenes kind of thing needs to be done anyway for my media.

If I understand correctly, you want to make a movie out of multiple takes of more or less the same performance and I'm not sure how Multicam doesn't create more issues than it solves.  The idea of multicam is to display different angles of a single take – usually with a common audio source.  So unless I'm overlooking something (which wouldn't surprise me in the slightest) introducing multicam into the workflow would make your task more difficult.
One approach would be to lay out the parts (clips) of the performance you feel best tell the story on the primary storyline. Then use secondary storylines from the best takes to add interest as cutaways. Alternatively, if you wanted single source sound, you could experiment with a music bed as your primary stroyline, but then I think you would constantlly be wrestling with sync.
Best of luck on your project.

  • Editing and saving audio files (as audio files)

I am trying to accomplish the following tasks. Can anyone help?
    1. Fade into and out of a section of audio file.
    2. Save an audio file as an audio file. Although QT said it could export in dozens of formats, I can only manage to find "Save As Movie"
I am trying to make a slideshow (I can do that) and add audio (I can sort of do this), but it's not very graceful because I can't edit the audio very well.
    Thanks!

Do you have QuickTime Pro? What "audio file" types are you referring to - MP3, WAV?

  • Editing and Exporting Audio Track Only

Is it possible to just edit and export the audio track from a project that contains video and audio? I turned off the video track, and was able to make edits on the audio track but when I export the edited audio track entire unedited audio track is exported.

That did it. I didn't have the audio timeline material selected as the active window.
    Many thanks.

  • Trim edit and unlinked audio audio

Hi. So I'm using trim edit on video tracks...and I'm not hearing audio, which I guess is because the audio at that particular edit point is music, not original sound recorded with the video.
Is there a way to adjust the trim edit function so that I hear the same audio in trim edit as I'm hearing in the timeline?

Mute the audio on the tracks that you don't want to hear.
Click the green loudspeaker icon so that it goes darker in color.
Or click the Solo buttons to hear just the tracks that you want to hear (useful if you have lots of audio tracks and just want to hear one or two).

  • Audio Components Mix disappear after update to 10.1 – rescue my work?

    Dear community,
after updating on 10.1 we are missing an essential feature.
Hundreds of episodes have an audiomix within the three stereo audio components (expand audio components)
audio1 = main voice, commentary (stereo)
    audio2 = foley / SFX / etc. (stereo)
    audio3 = music score (stereo)
On every single audio component we put audio filters and changed volume control with keyframes.
The result is a complex audio mix within a clearly arranged environment. It was very simple to understand.
Yesterday, we updated one of the episodes and noticed that our audio adjustments were not there anymore. No audio mix at all. Disaster.
For Apple developers it must be an ease to fix this issue. Maybe they just forgot that.
Please do not let mix all episodes again maybe someone has an idea?
    My plan is:
    A. Export the final audio mix of every episode (not editable anymore but rescued for eternity) in one stereo file
    B. Export audio compoents into tree seperate stereo files wihout adjustments (if changes must be done in future)
    C. Export as Roles - does anybody have experiences woking with them?
    Sincerely
    Violet

I'm having the same problem, When I import video from my CF cards on my newer iMac 10.8.5 OS the audio cannot be split into two mono tracks that can be ajusted seporatly.  This is essential for me since all my events I film, one side is the open mic audio and the other comes from the sound system.  On my old Mac with 10.7.5 I'm able to import the media then open in timeline and adjust the two audio channels seporatly.   Please Help us, I need to use my much faster computer to produce on site videos.

  • 3 cam Multicam 8 channel external audio

I am looking to do a multicam edit which involves pulling up some pauses and talent flubs.  I would also like to slave along the 8 seperate channels of audio that is slate synced.  What I would like in the end is my multicam edit and 8 channels of audio (which includes any pull ups I did in the video with the audio still in sync.  Then edit in Audition and then  replace the 8 channels with the stereo mix from the audition session.
I can't seem to find a way to do this.  I tried merging the 8 channels with all of the video clips before I set the multicam buit that did not work either.  Any help would be aprreciatted.

I'm bumping this thread and expanding on it a bit.
I really like how Premiere treats a multicam like a nest.  I can move the pieces around if I didn't quite get the sync right and I can even add effects and color correction (though it's best to turn these off when actually trying to edit!).  I can even do all of these things to the nest at any point after I've started editing it in a sequence.  Very cool and useful!
But multitrack audio still has me baffled.  I can send the multiclip nest to Audition and mix down the audio there. And I can do this at any point in the edit process.  I can turn on multiple audio tracks in the nest and they appear muxed in the sequence (understandable but unhelpful).  But the only way I can manage to send all of the tracks to Audition as multitrack from the edited sequence is (like I said above) to add each of the audio tracks and manually sync them up.  This essentially makes the multcam a "video only" multicam.
Is this correct?  Or is there a better workflow?

  • Issues creating multicam edit from pre-synced DSLR sequence

    Hi All,
I'm new to Premiere Pro CC, having just moved from FCPX. I've been doing a fair bit of research on multicam editing in PP the last few days but have yet to be able to get it going on my project.
As you can see from the screen grab, I have a sequence of DSLR clips that I have synced onto my timeline. The issue is that no matter what method I use I can't seem to create a multicam edit that works. I always end up with only one camera in the multicam window and the audio isn't remotely synced up with it.
    What am I doing wrong?

The sequence you have open. Take that sequence in your project bin, right click, pop-up menu, choose 'create a new sequence'. Open your new 'flat' one video track sequence in your timeline, click project monitor panel 'wrench', pop-up menu, choose ' Multi-camera'

  • Left and right audio in VCD

The VCD dramas that i bought consist of left and right audio that are of different language. Is there any program that i can use to convert the whole movie into mp4 movie with just one language ?
    thanks

Select the clip in the timeline and open the audio tab in the inspector. Under the audio configuration label click the drop down arrow at the right and change stereo to dual mono. Go back to the timeline and right click the clip and select expand audio components. You can them change the volume of the two audios independently. After adjustment right click the clip again and choose collapse audio components.

  • Left and right audio channels in clips not balanced.

One is louder than the other. How do I make them the same or is it a problem with how it came in? They are in stereo mode but the waveform shows one lower than the other.

Go back to the timeline and right click the clip and select expand audio components. You can them change the volume of the two audios independently. • How to extend clips after multicam editing.

I recently learned how to use multicam editing and I think it is such a fantastic tool. One of the things that I struggled with, however, is the ability to extend/shorten one of the clips because the footage was too shaky during the transition to another clip.
For example: Clip A is playing and recording on the timeline. But Clip A becomes shaky so I switch to Clip B. After everything is done, and I play it back, I see that shaky footage towards the end of Clip A.
How do I extend Clip B so that it extends over Clip A to get rid of the shaky footage?

The "Roll" tool. Click between 2 clips and roll the edit left or right.
