Trim edit and unlinked audio audio

Hi. So I'm using trim edit on video tracks...and I'm not hearing audio, which I guess is because the audio at that particular edit point is music, not original sound recorded with the video.
Is there a way to adjust the trim edit function so that I hear the same audio in trim edit as I'm hearing in the timeline?

Mute the audio on the tracks that you don't want to hear.
Click the green loudspeaker icon so that it goes darker in color.
Or click the Solo buttons to hear just the tracks that you want to hear (useful if you have lots of audio tracks and just want to hear one or two).

  • Multicam editing and expanded audio components

Hi. I will try to describe the issue I am having:
    1. I am editing a multicam clip and have expanded the audio components
    2. I make a video only switch to another angle (from angle A to angle B)
    3. I decide I want to move my video edit point slightly so I use the trim tool ('T') to move the video edit to the left or right
    4. The audio edit point does not move with the video edit point while the audio components are expanded, leaving the edit point for the video offset from the edit point for the audio.
Is there a way I can slide the edit point for video and audio together OR do I need to collapse the audio components before I do this?
    Thanks

Depending on how often you want to do this, it might get tedious, but:
Hold down the Alt key and click on the audio portion you want to change; this will select just the audio clip. Right-click on it, go to Multi-Camera, and then select the camera you want to use for audio. The video will stay whatever you had originally edited into place, but the audio will be pulled from the other camera.
If you want to use audio from a specific camera for the whole edit, there is an option in the multicam monitor flyout menu called "Audio Follows Video." If you uncheck that, you can pick what audio track you want to use at the bottom of the MC monitor. Premiere will add edits, but the audio will always be from the camera you specified. I'm not sure which option you're really after, but hopefully that helps.

  • Editing and saving audio files (as audio files)

I am trying to accomplish the following tasks. Can anyone help?
    1. Fade into and out of a section of audio file.
    2. Save an audio file as an audio file. Although QT said it could export in dozens of formats, I can only manage to find "Save As Movie"
I am trying to make a slideshow (I can do that) and add audio (I can sort of do this), but it's not very graceful because I can't edit the audio very well.
    Thanks!

Do you have QuickTime Pro? What "audio file" types are you referring to - MP3, WAV?

  • Editing and Exporting Audio Track Only

Is it possible to just edit and export the audio track from a project that contains video and audio? I turned off the video track, and was able to make edits on the audio track but when I export the edited audio track entire unedited audio track is exported.

That did it. I didn't have the audio timeline material selected as the active window.
    Many thanks.

  • How do I shift clips and audio and adjust audio levels in CS5.5

    OK, a couple of things.
I'm trying to shift everything over (this includes videos, some name supers, and unlinked audio) so I can insert some music here and there. I can drag the music on to Audio 2 or something, but I still want to scoot everything else over a couple of seconds. Is there an easier way to do this?
Secondly, I want to adjust the audio levels on the music. SO I want it to start off soft, grow louder, then back down until you don't even notice it. How would I do this? Thanks.

For the Nudging of multiple Assets, have you tried Selecting them all, and then using the Cursor Keys (arrows) to Nudge, one Frame at a time?
For the ramping up/down of the Audio Volumes, there are several ways to do that. Keyframing the Fixed Effect>Volume (in the Effects Control Panel) will allow one to adjust the Volume up/down over time. If you have never done Keyframing, then I would start with the Help File, as there are a lot of things to learn. Once, however, you have concepts and mechanics down, Keyframes are easy, and so very powerful. This article discusses several ways to adjust Volume/Gain, and might be useful: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3472343#3472343

  • My iMovie is skipping like crazy when I try to edit and then goes to a black screen and you can only hear the audio!?!? What's happening??

I use iMovie almost everyday for Youtube videos. I have nothing in my imovie except the 5 clips that I'm editing now. I have all my media on an external hard drive and delete everything after I'm done with ( I empty all trash cans). My iMovie is now skipping when I try to edit and then the clips just go to a black screen and I can only hear the audio, this has been going on for a week and I don't know what to do?!? Any help?

Try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If that doesn't help, try Resetting the System Management Controller

  • Using Slip Edit tool on video and linked audio

Am not able to do a slip edit on a video clip that has a linked audio track w/o the two falling out of sync. After doing a slip edit on the video I have to go back and do a slip edit on the audio track separately, even though it is marked as linked, in order to re-align it w/ the video. Shouldn't I be able to do one slip edit on both the video and audio tracks at the same time and keep them in sync?
    Jack

I understand that they're linked. If they're underlined they're linked. Linked selection is different. It's the behavior that controls what happens when you select a clip in the timeline. Check the linked selection button in the upper right of the timeline or check the Edit menu or use Shift-L.

  • Can I use iMovie to edit and enhance both video and audio of my homemade DVDs?

I have a lot of homemade DVDs converted from old VHS tapes. The video and audio quality need to be edited/enhanced. Can I use my iMovie 11 for this task? If not what are my options? Thanks.

    Hi
There are several layers to this Q
    • VHS-tapes has a low quiality as is
    • converted to sort of .mpe2 to a DVD to be played on standard DVD-player - Quality is futher lost
    • converting it back to DV or AIC - and more quality is lost
    • edit it in iMovie'08 to 11 - even more quality is lost due to that when going from Event's to Project's - every second line building up the picture is discarded (as non of them - iM'08 to 11 - works woith interlaced SD-video
So if quality is of any interest - I would - and are doing
    • Converting from VHS-tapes
    - via a CANOPUS ADVC-300 - to digital
    - in via FireWire to
    - to iMovie HD6 or FinalCut (any version) - asa they all keep 100% of the interlaced SD-quality
    - edit and put out on miniDV tape (still 100% preserved) or to a DVD made in iDVD with all that keep as high quality possibly. (No Video-DVD can keep 100% quality - it's due to standard and amount of compressing)
If Quality is of no importance - then
    • DVDs needs to be converted to DV or AIC and this is no free standard on any Mac - You need a converting program as
    - MPEG StreamClip (free on internet) + BUT it needs the .mpeg2 Component from Apple to work ($20)
    - Roxio Toast™ - can also be used to back engineer - BUT this cost's much more - still to me all extras was more than worth it
    - Analog way - DVD-player - A/D-box - import via FireWire

  • Way to edit and save .AC3 audio files?

Anyone know if there is a way to edit and save .AC3 audio files in Audition 3?

Every time you open any coded file at all in Audition, you lose quality if you resave it in anything other than an uncompressed format. With most formats, what is even worse is saving them in a different compressed format, because you end up with twice as many different coding artefacts.
What you need to understand is that all of these formats are distribution formats, not editing ones. The basic principle is that you work in an uncompressed format until the last possible moment - ie, distribution. And that, ideally, is the only time you use a compressed format at all. So if you want to use something that's compressed, you uncompress it once, and don't recompress until you absolutely have to.

  • Cut audio from a video file and edit in an audio editor?

Using Pre 9 and a Nikon D7000 video file: Is it possible to cut the audio portion of a movie clip (where the audio was recorded in the camera and is part of the import), edit in an audio editor (I like Sony Sound Forge Studio), then paste it back into the clip?

I use Steve's method all of the time, and edit the Audio output in Adobe Audition. You will want to Export/Share to PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit, and keep that format both going and coming back into PrE. Remember that you will be working with an Audio file, that is the full (or almost) Duration of the Timeline. When you Import that edited Audio file, give the program a few moments to Conform that newly Imported PCM/WAV for editing. I suggest not touching the computer, until Conforming has completed 100%, and the little progress bar in the lower-right of the GUI has disappeared. If the Imported Audio file is short, and your computer is fast, you might not even see that progress bar, but the Conforming has taken place, just the same.
I like to keep the original Audio on its Audio Track(s), and just use Window>Audio Mixer to Mute that/those Track(s), leaving only my edited Audio on its own Track un-Muted. This is a "fail-safe," just in case I change my mind along the way, and wish to revert to the original Audio for some reason. It is much easier to Mute-Unmute, than to gather up all of that original Audio again.
    Good luck, and happy editing,
    Hunt

  • Re post: Editing-- Insert video and move audio, preserving sync

Forgive me, a newbie, for posting this twice, but I think the iM6 group folks, not the iM8 folks, may have the a clue about this issue.
I really love iM6. I do have FCExp, but I've gotten so comfortable with iM6 that I hate to change. But I am frustrated by one thing.
I may be trying to do something too advanced for iMovie (6HD) but almost everything else with this product is so amazing, I can't imagine that they didn't build this in. I must be overlooking something.
I am making dvds from a VHS conversion of some 60-70s 8mm home movies. A labor of love for an aging parent. The amateur filmmaker used to project them with records playing, and at some point he collected all his chosen LP music onto a cassette (not on the video cassette, a music only cassette). So, I play the VHS and the music at the same time and use an analog to Firewire converter and load all into iM6. So far so good. Then, because I need to seriously mess with the music to put it more or less in sync with the video segments, I extract the audio so it now shows up as a second track. Still no problem. Now in editing I clip or split the audio into separate pieces and checkerboard them, alternating between the two audio tracks in the timeline so I can adjust volumes, cross fade, etc.
The first volume I did took a lot of twiddling and tweaking to keep all the clips in their proper places. I'd work at the end of the piece, then at the beginning then back to the end with the result that the audio clips were always sliding out of position. I can't quite figure out how to keep two audio tracks in sync with the video. BUT I did finally finish and when I started the next one, I swore that I'd always finish a segment and then move on to the next, always left to right, never tweaking the finished stuff to the left (earlier on the time line). This has made the job much easier but I have one big problem now. I did not think to put some black at the head of the project to put the titles on!
You'd think I could just put the cursor at 0:00 and insert a 6 second title over black and it would move all the video and audio to the right by six seconds. But what happens is only the video slides over. The two audio tracks don't move and are now six seconds early. Sure, I could go ahead and re-adjust all the 30 or 40 audio clips, but I can't help thinking that "Apple wouldn't make me do this..."
Has anyone any idea how to lock all the edited material together so I could insert some space to the left without losing sync?
PS does anyone share my frustration on THIS: when I copy a little piece of sound from one of those tracks and then paste the copy, there's no telling where it will land... It never goes to the cursor position. If I'm lucky it lands somewhere on the timeline after the project end and I can drag it back to where I want it. But on an hour project this is annoying.

I think I solved my own problem, and Klaus, you were correct, Lock to Play head is the key.
In order to select ALL the clips on both tracks you click and drag a box across all the clips you want to lock and then select Advanced/Lock Audio Clip at Playhead and all the clips will be locked to their video positions, though in my case only a few of them sprouted little yellow pushpins. I was then able to slug 6 seconds of Black in ahead of my video, and voila!, both video and attached audio moved over staying in sync. I knew Apple wouldn't let me down, though the answer was not explicit in any Apple documentation. I guess I'd better buy the book now.

  • Editing in Multicam and having audio problems....

    HI there,
I am a new PCPX user and learning quickly. Loving it!  I have been editing 3 different shows in Multi Cam editing and haven't had any problems as of yet with
audio.   On the third one now, and I've selected my main track and also selected "enable video switching only".  Only the audio is switching.  I've matched the audio,
which is helping but it's still noticeable to me and driving me insane....
Like I said, new to this, so not entirely familiar with ins & outs of FCPX yet!  Thanks!

It seems to work fine when I add transitions....I have no idea, since I didnt change anything.  The other segment on the same timeline still plays the other audio.  It's driving me nuts! Active Angle & Audio shows what its supposed to.  Chalk it up to a fluke or glitch in the program?  Not the first one i've had either, the other day it wouldn't render. Shut it down and restarted to work fine.  Is this normal for a newly purchased program???

  • 2010 iMac 2.93 i7 27" or 2011 2.8 i7 21.5" - which will suit better long-term?  I do a fair amount of audio, video editing and photoshop, but I have a limited budget.  What's going to give the best bang-for-buck for the next 3-5 yrs?

I do a fair amount of audio, video editing and photoshop, but I have a limited budget.  What's going to give the best bang-for-buck for the next 3-5 yrs?  My current machine is a 13" Macbook unibody 2.4 Core 2 Duo w/ 4Gb Ram so it's time to move forward with more power and screen real estate!

    Hello, Jeff
I could never edit on a 13" screen. I'm currently using a 17" MBP i7 Early 2011 as a fast replacement to my aged 20" Intel iMac.
Both systems are not that far apart on stats and you will find that processing HD video will rely highly on the read/write to your storage. Myself, I'd be eye balling the 2011 for the Thunderbolt port so HD Video export/compression doesn't take forever! Currently processing a finished HD project for DVD uses at most 20% of my total CPU capacity. The FW800 drive is the big bottleneck! (I know I need at least a RAID to see a real speed boost).
How good your eyes are and your usage style would dictate if the difference in screen size make a difference to you.

  • Multicam Editing and Audio

    Hello Forum,
does anyone know if there a way to select a different audio track separately from the video track when editing in the multicam mode?
For example, if there a way for an editor to have a video from Camera 1 and Sound from Camera 2?
Would appreciate a direct technique or a workaround suggestion.

  • Pick only video and not audio to edit in timeline

How can I only move the video and not audio to the timeline when I pick a clip I want?
Everytime I drag it to the timeline it brings the audio and video and I have to unlink it and then delete the audio.

Disconnect the audio in the patch panel at the left end of the Timeline window. Click the a1 and a2 source tabs to disconnect them from their destination tracks (A1 and A2 by default).
