Multiclip DVCPRO HD 1080i60

Hey folks, this is my first post.
I'm trying to edit a multi camera show via multiclip in the timeline and it keeps giving me the red "needs render" line. The clip plays fine in the viewer and the sequence settings match the clip settings.
It's DVCPRO HD 1080i60 footage. I'm connected eSATA to a Lacie d2 Quadra via an express card adapter on my Mac Book Pro 17". OSX 10.6.2 Final Cut 6.06 Is it a matter of having to stripe the drive for more speed?
I'm working around it by editing all cameras into the timeline and match framing wherever I want to cut and editing onto another track, but I love doing multiclip editing. It's much faster.
Peace.

Make sure that your RT settings are set to UNLIMITED RT...
How many clips are grouped?

  • DVCPro HD 1080i60 codec mismatch in CS5

    Hello,
I am trying to render in After Effects to a playback device in my TV station called the Omneon, which specifies it wants DVCPRO HD 1080i60.
In CS3, this worked perfectly, rendering out a 16x9 render at 1920x1080. However, now that we’ve upgraded to CS5, I get a ‘mismatch’ warning and the render ends up squished horizontally. The warning reads: "Warning: Output file will be resized from 1920x1080 to 1280x1080 to meet format constraints." Can I render a composition as DVCPRO HD 1080i60 and force it to be 1920×1080, not 1280×1080? Any help would be great. Thank you.

Yes, thank you, Tim! That is very clear. It doesn't make me like it, though! I did a test and it looks normal in the place I am rendering it to..so even though it looks odd to me, it still works.
I'll send your note to the team so everyone knows why this happened.
    Have a great day!

Subject: DVCPro HD 1080i60 codec mismatch in CS5
The mismatch warning is correct.  The DVCPRO HD 1080i60 specification is 1280x1080 at 1.5 PAR.  If you want to put 1920x1080 into your QuickTime file then you will need to choose a different codec, one which supports that size.  (Note that none of the DVCPRO HD codecs support that size.)
Apple's documentation details the different DVCPRO HD flavors pretty well. ( I assume you're using their codec on a Mac with Final Cut Studio installed.)
    http://documentation.apple.com/en/finalcutpro/professionalformatsandworkflows/index.html#c hapter=3%26section=6%26tasks=true
So that leaves the question of "Why did After Effects CS3 let you stuff 1920x1080 into a codec that doesn't support that size, while After Effects CS5 won't?"
Put simply, QuickTime can be lazy, and After Effects CS5 is a little smarter than its predecessors.
Individual codecs can advertise to applications what dimensions, frame rate, PAR, etc. they will accept.  However, QuickTime itself does not necessarily enforce these restrictions.  When you rendered a QuickTime movie from After Effects CS3 and CS4, it talked directly to the QuickTime API.  Because QuickTime doesn't enforce the format constraints, After Effects didn't complain if the constraints were violated.
After Effects CS5 doesn't use the QuickTime API directly.  There is no 64-bit version of QuickTime, so in order for Adobe's 64-bit applications to write QuickTime files we had to write an intermediate 32-bit application that could talk to QuickTime.  It's called Adobe QT32 Server, and it runs silently in the background whenever After Effects CS5, Premiere Pro CS5, or Adobe Media Encoder CS5 are running.  When QT32 Server opens a codec to write files, it enforces the advertised constraints.  There are cases where not enforcing the constraints will cause errors or a bad render, so the bottom line is that if a codec tells you that it only supports certain sizes or frame rates, it's best to believe it.
Thus, when Apple's DVCPRO HD 1080i60 codec tells QT32 Server that it wants 1280x1080, 1.5 PAR, 29.97fps, field separated video, that's the only format QT32 Server will give it.  After Effects will transform the comp frames to those standards before QT32 Server writes the file.  The warning dialog is there to tell you what's happening.
    Clear?  As mud?

  • Post dvcpro hd 1080i60 clip to internet???

I want to post a short 6 minute piece that i've edited in dvcpro hd 1080i60 ( 1280x1080 frame size) clip to the internet. When I use the H.264 compressor (the setting i usually use with DV pieces) it comes out as a square...even when i tell it keep the dimensions with letterbox.
How can I get this piece up on the internet with the right dimensions and a managable file size?

  • DVCPro HD render wrong after update to 12.1?

Here's my issue, rendering out of After Effects CC 12.1 as DVCpro HD 1080i60 is showing up as the wrong aspect ratio, it renders out as 1888 x1062. Before the update to After Effects CC 12.1 it was working/rendering completely fine as 1280 x1080.
Take a DVCPRO HD 1080 comp, render it and it renders as 1888 x1062, not 1280 x1080 like it did before.  And the strange thing, if I re-import that rendered clip into AE, it will see it as 1280 x1080 (1.50), but if I open that clip up in Quicktime, it will see it only as 1888 x1062 ??  Again, before the update to 12.1 even quicktime would see it correctly as 1280 x1080.  Something in the header info in quicktime is now wrong and it won't read it correctly.  We have a piece of gear that i need to send files to as dvcpro hd 1280 x1080 and it won't even take them anymore because the quicktime header or something is wacky.  (yes the gear i'm sending to is weird, and strange we send it that format, don't ask, I know)
I've tired rendering/exporting out of media encoder and premiere since the update and it's the same thing.  Even rendering from AE and forcing it to resize in the render queue won't work.... it still shows up as 1888 x1062.  Errr
So I'm not sure where to start looking to fix the problem?  Is it happening because of the Adobe update to 12.1, is it a quicktime issue or is it my Calibrated software for DVCpro on windows..... I don't know?  I just know it was all working great before this latest update and now it's not.
Any ideas or a direction to look into would be greatly appreicated.
    I'm using windows 7 profesional
    Adobe creative cloud
And software called "Calibrated" DVCPro HD Decode software so we can use DVCPro clips on windows.

Any particular reason that you are rendering back to DVCPro HD? That's a non square pixel format designed for cameras not delivery of product, it is not suitable for DI (digital intermediates) or delivery to anything standard. I would do all my work in a standard HD 1920 X 1080 comp and render my DI and Delivery product to that frame size. AE will automatically adjust your DVCPro HD footage.
The only reason that I can think of to render to DVCProHD is to copy your footage back to tape or to storage cards to playback on a camera or DVCProHD deck, but if you have a capture card that you are using to output to tape, and I see you do, then your system will work with standard HD files just fine.
As far as the QT wrapper being broken, if you must render back to DVCPro HD the try the Adobe Media Encoder. It does a better job compressing things than the Render Cue.
As a last thought, do what Szalam suggestes, update.

  • Can't get a decent SD DVD from DVCPRO HD material

We made the jump to HD and started shooting in DVCPRO HD (1080i60). We still deliver all of our final shows on standard DVD. I've been trying all week to come up with a workflow that will make a decent DVD from DVCPRO HD timelines, but I just can't get a decent image. First i tried just using the 2 pass best 90 minutes setting, and the dvd looked awful. Lots of heavy artifacting everywhere. Surfed the forums a bit, and someone recommended that I first convert the DVCPRO HD movie to SD 8 bit, then make the mpegs from the 8 bit movie. That helped a little, but still had artifacting in shoulders, hair, etc... So then I turned frame controls on and used the best setting for the resize filter when going from HD to SD 8 bit. This made further progress, but is still a lot worse than other SD dvd's I make with DVCPRO 50 footage or even mini dv footage. Anyone have a workflow out there that will give me a decent looking DVD? I can't seem to crack the HD to SD code.
    I'm using Compressor 3 on a G5 quad.

I still haven't found a way to make this work in compressor, but I have found a workaround for those of you with a Downconverting capture card and a tape deck. I use the component out of my aja card which automatically does a hardware downconvert of my 1080i material to SD anamorphic. I print to tape using my DVCPRO 50 deck, digitize the tape as DVCRPO 50 anamorphic once the tape has finished recording, then use SD DVD presets in compressor as normal. MUCH MUCH better looking DVD's. It's a pain, but the hardware downconversion in the KONA card seems to be light years ahead of anything compressor can produce using software.

  • DVCPRO HD to SD DVD issues

I'm cross posting this from the compressor forum, because it looks like that forum is dead.

I've gotten a suggestion on the cow forums to run the video out to a stand alone DVD recorder as a solution, but we don't have one of those. Is there really no way to get a decent looking image out of compressor with this type of footage?

The way it looks in your sequence is the way it will come out in the SD DVD... so if it's OK there, it's good to go all the way to a SD MPEG file and burn to a DVD.

  • Converting DVCPro HD frame rates

    Hello again mon saviors,
I have DVCPro HD 1080i60 files shot from an HVX-200.
How do i convert them to 720 24p?
Can I do it in Final Cut with the compressor settings on export or do I need a Kona or Decklink HD?
    Thank you again - misha

I did the same and I just opened a timeline, dropped in the first clip and clicked "yes" when asked if it wanted me to change my timeline settings to match that of the clip. I've been able to work my project on my MBP without rendering everything every time I change something. The downside to this is that I seem to have had trouble importing photoshop files for video as it only exports to 23.98fps which seems to have a weird effect on the dimensions of the photo.
To get around that, I found that I could set it up with HDV 720p25, import it into FCP, keyframe as required, then export to a DVCPro HD 720p60 movie using export to quicktime movie and it works great.
Now, I've probably done this all wrong as I'm the furthest from and expert and this was just trial and error, but it's worked for me so far. There'll be people on this board who'll probably give you much better help.
    Good luck,

  • DVCPRO HD 1080P making it 1920x1080

I have a project that's in DVCPRO HD 1080P24 I need to make this 1920x1080 instead of 1280x1080. When I go out of motion with DVCPRO HD codec and bring my file into compressor and compress it using the DVCPRO HD 1080i60 codec it looks stretched. The output is for youtube and I want a really nice quality looking animation.

After you change the project settings, Motion should maintain the proper 16:9 aspect ratio of the elements in your project, although you may have to rearrange them.
However, you can't export in the DVCProHD codec or else it'll get pushed back into the 1280x1080 frame. Export using Pro Res.
Another way to accomplish this, and possibly better for your circumstance since you've already built a 1280x1080 project, is to change the frame size on export.
Keep your project as it was (1280x1080). Export using ProRes. Hit the options button and click on the output tab. From the resolution menu, choose Broadcast HD 1080i. It won't change the frame rate, just the frame size. Export.

  • DVCPRO HD 1080i 59.97 or 29.97

Hi, I have a lot of DVCPRO HD Tape to digitize. And the crew dosen't know if they shoot in 29.97 or 59.97. I can capture it in both frame rate and they both play fine. If I use the 'abort capture on drop frame' with the 29.97 it stop capturing after 2-3 minutes . if im in 59.97 it stop after about 21 frame... If I don't use it the both capture of course, but some clip frezees and make the clip offsync...
Also the clip that I capture in 59,94 only appears to have 29.97 in the timeline.. even in my clip setting... weird..
Im using an ajhd 1400 deck. Does anybody know how can I figure out witch fps they used ?

1080i is only 29.97 fps. 720p is 59.94. 1080i60 means 60 interlaced fields...30fps. So choose the DVCPRO HD 1080i60. The inability to capture is most likely due to the hard drive you are trying to capture to. What kind of drive is it? How is it formatted? How is it connected? You only have one firewire bus so unless you have an additional firewire card.

  • Log and Transfer 1080i60 issue

I am trying to transfer the P2 data into FCP 6.0.5 at DVCPro HD 1080i60, but FCP keeps reverting the compression to DVCPro HD 1080p30.
The film was shot 1080i60. I have confirmed that all of the settings (timeline, capture presets, etc) are set for DVCPro HD 1080i60. I have deleted the project and opened a new one, dbl checked the XML files to confirm, and they show 1080i 59.94.
    What am I missing?
I dealt with this issue in the past with another film, however, I forget what i did when I resolved the issue.

I am still struggling with this issue of footage not transferring properly. I have sent messages to Panasonic, and it's not something they can resolve. It is an issue with FCP. No one else is experiencing this issue? I'm sure apple has a KB somewhere for it.

  • DVCPro HD in Quicktime

Hey i recently captured some DVCPRO HD 1080I60 footage and then outputted it to an external hard drive so others can view it. The other system is a mac, but doesn't have FCP and cant open the DVCpro codec. I can only seem to find decoders that will work on PC's if anyone has any suggestions would be very grateful.

#48 - Cannot view DVCPRO HD or HDV or ProRes on my computer.
Shane's Stock Answer #48 - Cannot view DVCPRO HD, HDV or ProRes QT files on your computer.
The DVCPRO HD, HDV and ProRes codecs only comes with FCP. If your computer does not have FCP installed, it cannot view these quicktime files. It doesn't matter if it is a Mac or PC, without FCP installed, you cannot view these files.
If you need to view ProRes material, you can download the ProRes decoder (mac and windows compatible) for ProRes
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/AppleProRes_QuickTime_Decoder_1_0_forWindows.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/AppleProRes_QuickTime_Decoder_1_0_forMac
If your footage was captured as DVCRO HD you can buy the Calibrated DVCPRO HD decoder:
    http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QDVCProHD.asp
HDV, XDCAM? Calibrated has you covered too:
    http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QXD.asp
If you have MXF files from a P2 camera and you need to view the footage on a computer without FCP, you can download P2CMS from Panasonic:
    http://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/p2-hd/downloads-and-updates.asp
Or you need the other party to compress the footage into a format your computer can play, like H.264.

  • Missing Codec: DVCPRO HD 720p23.98

My machine has been a bit buggy lately so I reinstalled the OS and FCP studio 1, ran software update till nothing shows up. Now I have imported some P2 shot at DVCPRO HD 720p23.98 and when I attempt to load a sequence preset I get an error that -
"Video Compressor DVCPRO HD 720p60 was not found. Please check that the hardware is present and enabled for this compressor. Setting the video compressor to Animation."
What am I missing, not doing or doing that is preventing me from using this codec?
    Thanks, Sam

I did that, I get an initial message saying, "Codec not found. You may be using
a compression type without the corresponding hardware card."
I shouldnt need any type of video card for DVCPRO HD.
When i click on Sequence i get a message saying:
"Video compressor DVCPRO HD (1080i60) was not found.
Please check that the hardware is present and enabled for this compressor.
Setting the video compressor to Animation."
I am trying to work with DVCPRO HD footage digitized off a D5 tape. The footage is of 35mm film telecined and mastered to 1080i.
Capture was done through a Kona card on another computer, I am simply
trying to do an offline, in DVCPRO HD.
I am using an old G4 Dual 500. 1.5 GB of RAM.
Could it be that Installer simply did not install the codec because of my hardware?

  • Capture from Sony HVR-A1E

    Hi
I have Final Cut Pro 5.1.4. I recently acquired a Sony HVR-A1E. It shoots in HDV 1080i.
I'm trying to work out how I can capture the video using FCP?
Is there an appropriate capture preset and device control preset?
For capture preset various things are listed such as HDV, DVCPRO HD 1080i50 48KHz, DVCPRO HD 1080i60 48KHz and others.
The camera connects to my Intel iMac by USB. I notice that FCP seems to list Firewire throughout its device control preset menu. Is it possible to have device control for USB?
Thank you for any assistance you can give

    Hi
    I've found the FireWire port
    They've called it "iLink".
A bit of "googling" with "iLink" has shown me that this is commonly used on Sony Camcorders.
I have used Sony Camcorders before and but they've been hired ones and I think it has always been that the person hiring it out has pointed at the "iLink" port and called it the "FireWire" port, so I've never caught on that this different name exists.
I'm buying the right cable next...
When it is plugged in and working (touch wood) I will come back and do this "helpful" and "solved" thing.

  • Adding Hyperlink to Video Made in Final Cut Pro

I created a 10 second which incorporates my logo flash by the screen and concludes with a fade in of two different banners:
one leading to a commercial side of my work and another leading to personal.
I want to somehow export this video and import it into ActionScript and place a distinguished hyperlink over each banner. Any suggestions my genius Adobe Family?
Someone's got it en the bag! Hey, I appreciate any help I can get -Nick

Thanks for the terminology. Yes I guess it is banding on my BRD and it displays the proper gradient when I play directly out from FCP. Sequence preset is DV NTSC 48 kHz. Capture Preset is DVCPRO HD - 1080i60 48 kHz. I let FCP select the settings when I brought in my 1st bit of HD video from my camera (via IMovie: I couldn't find a way to get in directly). My video is from the new Sony NEX (1080i). I'm sorry if I didn't answer your question re: format. I'm not very techy. I didn't understand "like noise added or in 10-bit." Thanks for your help!

  • What settings to use when exporting HD into QuickTime Movie

This help call goes out to any Mac user with Final Cut. I need help!!!
I have a Mac G5 and use Final Cut Pro V. 5.1.4. I Just bought a Canon XH A1 and filmed a few test shoots. Then downloaded to FC Pro. I have been trying to export using QuickTime Conversion. Every setting I have tried comes out more or less square. HELP!!!!

    Under Sequence the setting is:

Pixel Aspect Ratio - HD 1440X1080
No check mark in Anamorphic 16:9

    QuickTime Video Settings:
    Compression - Motion JPEG B
Under Export - using QuickTime Conversion - QuickTime Movie - Options - Video Settings:
    I tied:
    HDV 1080i60 and 50
    Motion JPEG A and B
    DVCPRO HD 1080i60
    All settings come out squarish!!!

    Hi Patrick,
Thanks for the info. But I can not get any setting to come out looking widescreen. All settings come out square looking. I have tried every setting I can think of but all the QuickTime exported movies come looking like (i.e.: 800X854) more box than widescreen. I think it must be some setting I do not know about or some combination or possibly the capture setting (easy setup).
    Thanks for your help.
