Multiple clients in Developement system for Charm

Hi Solman experts,
We are planning for the Charm implementation and we have multiple clients in Developement system.
Major hurdle is how to keep all the development clients in sync.
we have following clients
100  Golden client
300  configuration client
400  ABAP Developement client
500  Unit test
600  HR1
700  HR 2 clients
All configurations will be made in Client 300 and transported to QA and all developements will be made in client 400
Transports released from 300 and 400 should go all other clients.
Solman experts could anyone advice whether this is can be done using charm.

  • SCM and CRM Multiple Clients in one system

    Dear all,
I want to ask a question regarding Multiple clients in SCM 5 - IDES and CRM 5 -IDES.
I installed the system and plan to have multiple clients in a system with copying client 800 (IDES) to others.
I heard opinion that it can't possibly be done because if during the exercise the Administrator Workbench is executed it will search to the source client (800) and probably affect the exercise.
Would you mind giving me more suggestion about this?
    Thank you.
    Fausto

    Hi Fausto,
Could you be more specific about what you need to achive?
You can always creat a new client, logon to the client and do a client copy with TCod SCCL.
If you logon to other IDES clients then You'ld overwrite the content of the client which have been pre-configured.
Check the status of the client you need to overwrite from TCod scc4.
Also to verfiy the status of the target client for TCod se06 -system change option.

  • LabVIEW Base Development System for Windows

    Hello,
I want to buy "LabVIEW Base Development System for Windows", but i have some questions, include this version functi...
    a)TDMS streaming VIs
    b)Wavefoem VIs
and the last question, is it possible with this version do some executable code?
    thanks for all..

Here is a decent list of the differences between the versions of LabVIEW.  Since you want to create executables, you will need to add the Application Builder.  If you find there are other functions that you may need, I would just bump up to the Professional version.

  • NI LabVIEW Base Development System for Windows and NI CVS-1454

I have NI CVS-1454 and NI LabVIEW Base Development System for Windows (LabVIEW 8.5, no LabVIEW Real-Time Module and Vision Development Module). How can I build a LabView-program and run it on my CVS-1454?
    Kirill Kostousov

    Hi Kirill,
In order to use your CVS-1454 you will need to buy the LabVIEW Real-Time Module and Vision Development Module as these features are not supported in your version of LabVIEW.

  • Full production refresh to development systems and Charm?

    Hi SDN Community,
Where I work we have a policy of refreshing the development systems (ECC, CRM, APO, BI, SRM) on an annual basis with full production system data, HR data is subsequently wiped clean from the development system.
For each of our systems we have a development system, a QA system and a production system.
The decision to do these full refreshes was taken to ensure that developers and configurers can do decent testing in the Dev environments - prior to transporting to our QA system - to ensure that we have a reasonably stable QA system. Prior to the refreshes - QA was considered too unstable by our business to be used as a good test platform - the full D refreshes solved this problem.
We have recently installed SAP Charm (Change request management) which is a solution manager based product that manages the transportation of objects in change requests - attached to maintenance cycles.
During our first development system refresh we discovered that all open Charm projects (maintenance cycles) were placed into an unuseable status due to the refresh. This means we had to rebuild all of the Charm projects after the refresh - which took a considerable amount of time + resources and delayed project work. We don't want to be in this situation again for our next refresh.
SAPs response to us has been that they have no other customer that does full Development system refreshes - and also has Charm. I wonder if this is accurate, I think what SAP are saying is that they don't have many Charm customers... Is refreshing Development so uncommon?
We are considering products like SAPs TDMS - and alternatives (eg gold client) - but most of these appear a little immature - for refreshing complex system landscapes - such as ours and keeping everything in synch after the refresh.
    My questions to SDN -
What do you do - do you do full refreshes to your D systems?
If not - what are the arguments against refreshing D systems (is this considered bad practice)?
Are there any other Charm customers out there in a similar situation to us?
How do you manage the stability of your QA environments and stop the transport into QA systems of untested changes - if your D systems are not similar to you production system
(note we have some 300 active users in just our ECC development system)?
Any suggestions / recommendations as to how to best proceed would be greatly appreciated.
    many thanks in advance,

Edited by: Julian Phillips on Nov 11, 2008 2:33 PM

    Thanks Naushad for your reply,
I wonder if D refreshes are less common - more due to the additional hardware costs incurred (disk space needed to store full production data is usually pretty large) to do them - than due to avoiding disrupting development - probably a bit of both.
I did not mention this - but in our refresh we do reimport all transports that we open prior to the refresh - which used to solve our problems - in terms of restoring active changes - but with SAPs Charm system - this approach does not work as the Charm projects are left in an inconsistent status.
We are now leaning towards introducing a 4th set of systems into our landscape - so that we have the following platforms:
Development --->  Pre QA  ---> QA  ---> Production
This approach will allow us to keep both the Pre QA and QA systems refreshed every 6 months or so - and our new Dev system - we will refresh very infrequently (every 5 years perhaps) if at all. We will tie the Charm system to our new development - and this system will then not be impacted by refreshes. This approach means additional hardware cost - but as it happens we have a few spare boxes - so this maybe our best bet.
The core reason for our refresh is so that we will be able to preserve the stability of our QA test platform - which for us is the critical factor here. If QA has poorly tested work in it - we run a higher risk of disrupting other testing and also of this poorly tested work reaching production.
When we used to have a development system as you described and just the single QA box - we experienced frequent instability in our QA box - due to poorly tested working reaching it - and this delayed numerous projects.
Does anyone else have a 4 box setup like this? Anyone else encountered this on an SAP project anywhere? Pros / Cons of this approach?

  • Purpose of Multiple Clients in Development Server

can anybody tell me the advantages and
disadvantages of having multiple clients in a
    development server?

I don't think there is disadvantage when we have multiple clients for development system
DEV  SAP system may have multiple clients..
Main pupose : Changes can be client dependent or client independent
                          Client-independent effects some clients.
                          Client-dependent effects all clients.
Let me say one example : Dev system has two clients
100 - Here we can write the code
200 - Testing will be here ( customizing will done here)

  • Multiple R/3 Source systems for BW(3.5)

    Hi,
A BW system being linked with multiple R/3 source systems , is a very common scenario. But could someone please help me out with a strategy doc / how -to etc. on the best possible way to install business content for multiple R/3 sources .
    thanks

    Hi Shurobhi,
This is a common scenario. there is not much difference between single source system and multiple source systems.
If you have data coming from 3 source systems you dont need to create 3 cubes and update seperately. you can update 3 source systems data into one single cube. For Example: FI AP Line Item data : You have source systems 1 2 and 3. you can use standard business content ODS  and Cube to update FI AP data. Here first, init for source system 1 followed by delta for source system 1, then init for source system 2 followed by delta 2, finally init for 3 followed by delta 3. From here on you can load data to info cube in the above layer.
    Thanks

  • Inactive DataSource  - two clients in Development System

    Hi,
I have two developement clients 100 and 130. What ever changes I make in Client 100, it is supposed to reflect in Client 130. We use developement Client 100 to make any changes and use Client 130 to extract/trasnsfer data to BW system.
I activated my Datasource 2LIS_02_ITM in my Developemen1 client 100. But, it is still inactive in client 130.
Let me know if I am missing any steps.

    Hi Sven,
"Is the same to ALE. " - I did not understand this sentence will please explain this
"You must customizing to separate the two clients. you need two different "logical system name"."
I am just a contract employee so I am not expected to give those advises. Anyway if I have to transport the request then which request would it be, I mean customizing request or workbench request.
    Please let me know
    Thank you,

  • Two ABAP Development Clients with Transport enabled in Development System

    Hello All,
I have a unique situation in my development systems. We currently have two abap development clients with client settings which allows repository transports to be created. The reason for this setup is because there are two different abap development teams who want to work independently.
Has anyone see two development clients in development system? Do you see any risk with having two abap development clients with transport enbaled? Should I force them to work in ONLY ONE ABAP development client?
I would like to know your thoughts?
    Thx...Rocky

    Hello,
It may not a good idea to have two development clients. You have to manage with the following issues:
    (1) Customizing transports need to be moved to two clients
    (2) You may have to peridically sync. them between each other with all the development objects
    (3) Data needs to refreshed in two clients for development/unit test purposes
    (4) Same object may be edited in two clients independently at the same time which is likely to go to Production at different times resulting in version sequencing issues
    (5) Vension of data of object will be lost if you want to retrieve old version.
    Thanks,
    Venu

  • Schema of clients on BW system

    Hello,
We have two servers for BI 7.0 instalation, one for DEV another for PROD.
Could you suggest schema of clients that should be created on that BI 7.0 systems?
How i know clients are "cross clients", so the best way is to create just one client for one server? Am i wrong?
I want to have <b>Customizing, Sandbox, Quality assurance</b> clients in my DEV system.
I am waiting for your advices.
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Arunas Stonys

    Hi Arunas and Ruchit,
The implementation of the technical client structure in a BI system is different than in ERP systems.  While Ruchit's answer is accurate for ERP systems -- that is, having multiple clients in the development system for different roles -- this is not the case for BI systems.  Many of the tables that would be considered "client dependent customizing" in a BI system do not contain the mandant, or client, field.  So, any customizing entries in these tables would be available in all clients created, thus defeating the purpose of having multi-clients in the first place.
Also, the BI system identifies itself (for example, for the BW Administrator Workbench) with an "own system" connection that can only be setup in a single client.
So, BI systems must be operated in one single client only!  This client must NOT be either 000 or 066.
An exception to this is if the usage type BI is sharing the instance with another usage type.  For example, you could have a system with <i>both</i> BI and ERP installed.  In this case, BI requires a dedicated client and you would have one (or multiple) client for ERP and one (and only one) client for BI.
    Best Regards,
    Matt

  • How do you move changes from your project developments into the maintenance development system?

    Good day colleagues.
We are in the process of introducing retrofit, and the picture is clear for us, generally speaking, to retrofit the project landscape with the changes done in the maintenance landscape.
What about the other way around? We mean, when the project is set to Go Live, we understand the transports will be all added, e.g. to the Production System buffer to be moved there via Maintenance Cycle, based on the way we defined the project and the logical component being used.
However, how do you feed those project transports to your Maintenance Development System using ChaRM?  or do you do that Manually?  We doubt. Copying Production back into Development?  no way !!!
How do you establish that?  We have a sort of idea but the documents about retrofit only seem to talk about moving transports one way, as far as we have found.
    Many thanks for any feedback.
    Juan Carlos

    Hi Piyush.
I apologize for a late close on this questioning about moving projects back into the maintenance stream.
Basically there are 2 solutions as far as we know:
    1. What Vivek mentions, which is performing a cutover and repacking the project transports into 2 transports in the maintenance stream:  A workbench and a customizing.   In that sense, at the end of the day you end up moving just 2 transports to the maintenance stream up to Production.   They contain all your project objects.  Thanks to Vivek, again.
This is a very practical and interesting approach.  The only reason we did not adopt it, is based on the fact that if by any chance we encounter an issue with a project transport object in the maintenance stream (Dev or QA), now that all is bundled together, we may be stuck right at the time weare getting ready to GoLive.  How tough is going to be that issue? how easy and quick to fix?how much would that affect the whole project time frame?   Those questions made us decide to option 2.
    2.  What we are doing is that at cutover we move at the same time all project transports to the transport buffer of each of the maintenance stream systems (Dev, QA, and Prod).   We first open the gate to move the transports to Dev and we test, then to QA and we test, as well.  If there may be an issue, and the issue can not be quickly resolved by the project team, we can go up to the extreme of using a new feature introduced in ChaRM in SP10, if we are not wrong, but definitely available in SP12.  That feature provides a way to selectively decide which transports of the release are to Go Live and which ones do not, although we have no had to use that feature, yet, but it is there.
We do not see any risk on adding the transports to the maintenance buffers at the same time.  There are ways to control the systems that are open for receiving transports, and the project phases, which guarantees no room for error.  There have to be deliberate actions taken (more than one in our case), to wrongly move a project to GoLive before its time comes.
That is more or less the scenario Piyush.
Hope that explains the scenario.  So far no decision on really publishing as a blog.  It seems not to be written on stone, as consulting with different companies, each adds its own flavor to the recipe and shuffle ideas to get to what they are looking for and makes them happy.

  • How to decide the development platform for developing portal content?

    Dear Experts
There are several platforms on which we can make
    portal contents for SAP Portal.
    1)Web Dynpro for Java
    2)Web Dynpro for ABAP
    3)PDK for .NET
I am trying to find out which of them would be most
efficient while developing system for the client.
It may be that for one who knows Java, Web dynpro for
Java would be efficient and so on.
However, when there is a situation where the  developers
need to be trained before the project, which of these
platforms would be the most efficient.
Beside the evaluation  based on language of development,
are there some other evaluation based on criteria like the
ease of development, deployment and debugging, cost for the
softwares and hardwares needed for the projects, contents
of the class library, templates provided and so on?
Does anybody have some supporting document that describes
on which circumstances which of these technologies would
be efficient while making systems for the client?
It would be of great help if you could share your insights.
    many thanks,
    Sudeep

    hi sudeep.....
whatever technology, you work in , the output is going to be the same and he ecnd user cannot find out what technology you have used.... ABAP would be better because its growing up fast and many applications are being created using web dynpro abap.

  • Connect CRM multiple clients to ECC

    Hi SAP Gurus,
I have one Question regarding CRM->ECC connectivity.
Will it be possible to connect multiple clients of CRM to ECC ? Like more than one client can talk to ECC ?
Because in BW we can not connect multiple clients to source system ! does this true with CRM also or not ?
    Thank you

    1) As datasources are client independent so do we need to activate the datasources (like 2lis*) in all clients one by one? or just activating in one client will make it ?
You need to activate the datasources individually for all the client. If you will activate in one client, it will be specific to that only
) If we replicate the datasources for new clients in BW side and then want to reload the data from New clients (set-up tables filling and INIT)?would it have an affect on existing deltas (for datasources 2lis*)for existing Source client 100? What shud be the precautions? How we can proceed? Please let us know your opinons plz
If you will replicate in one client system, it wont affect delta and init from other client.
One thing you can do, to identify data from different source systems, you can use source system compounding in your infoobjects. Make sure you are not loading data from both the client at the same time. it may lock the DSO and master data.

    Dear all,
    system details: ecc 5.0 unicode sap aba 16, basis 16,appl 11,hr 19+MSSQL 2000 with collation bin2 (SP4) and windows 2003. EP 6.0 SP9 WebAS 6.40 sr1
First i installed portal with rapid installer 2.5.1 but it connects only with client 000. i tried to give client 100 at installation time but it was not accepted.
Then i installed with netweaver 04 dvd. it accepted client 100.
now my company want that portal should be connected to multiple client with backend system as my backend system is development and they will check first in a sandbox client and then with user testing in a test client.
    How to do this.
Secondly, in user management>role "page cannot be displayed" error and this error is coming only in this page.
One thing i should tell you that when i installed with rapid installer it was working fine with client 000 but when i changed the client in system landscape i was able to logon no tab displayed. the message was that the user may not have proper authorizations. may be something to do with portal roles. I want to know how can i transport these portal roles or user config to other clients.
in WP3R, it says no object found.
    Can anyone help
    Thanks
