Multiple "hot spots," one rollover image

Im building an online artist's portfolio website and trying
to lay out a dozen thumbnail images that when rolled over trigger a
corresponding image to appear to the left of the thumbnails. All
hot spots trigger the same image to change. Any advice on how to
achieve this?

I went through the steps KenRogers2 suggested, and when I
first click on "+" under the behaviors tab I get error message #
61878. After clicking ok the behaviors tab opens. After going
through the steps and previewing in Safari (Im running OSX 10.4.8)
all I get is the hot link hand over the thumbnail, but no rollover
image replaces the default. Any ideas?
I've also recently downloaded an update for dreamweaver and
have been getting a jave error when I try to open any file, but
everything seems normal after I hit ok. Not sure that has anything
to do with the other error, just thought I'd throw it out
there..

  • Creating multiple links from one map image in Flash CS4

    I have been tasked with creating multiple links from one map image using flash. Each link would go to the main website page with that location. I assume I could create a button for each location on the map but not having a lot of experience any help / tutorial you know of would be super helpful.. Thanks! Not looking for someone to work me thru it but a little guidance would be great!

    If I was to answer the problem, I would be giving you what you asked not to be given... the solution.  So I'll suggest that you start by researching the getURL() function.  That is what AS2 uses for opening web pages.
    As for coding a button, I'll recommend the following article for you... it will explain the proper approach to coding a button, which will give you an advantage over others who don't follow it, but instead use the way the article says not to.
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/as_bestpractices_04.html
    Google is one of the best resources available for learning how to do things with Flash--it's the first place I go when I have a wondering.  In general, if you type in the right keywords, you get fairly good search results.  In your case, combinations of "AS2", "button", "getURL", "tutorial" would probably work well.

  • Partial-credit scoring in multiple response and multiple hot-spot questions

    Hello everyone,
    I'm calling on your generosity in the spirit of the holidays to help out a noob.  I would like to create matching, multiple-response and multiple-hot spot questions where the user receives credit based on the number of correct answers within the question. For example, in a matching question where there are four items; if the user gets 2 out of the four items matched correctly, I would like for him to receive 2 out of 4 points.
    I understand that Captivate doesn't support partial-credit scoring of this type, but a few posts have implied that it can be done with variables. Is there anyone who can walk me through this process, or send me to a link that will walk me through it? (I've scoured these forums and tried the Cp tutorials, to no avail.) And if it's not asking too much, please make it understandable to someone who has very little experience with variables.
    Thanks, and Merry Christmas.

    Hello,
    I did publish an article more specific on partial scoring, perhaps this could help you:

    And since you are asking for more basic information, on my blog I point to some other articles to explain the meaning of variables with/without advanced actions. Feel free to have a look (there are more postings about advanced actions and links to articles over there):

  • How do you add multiple links to a rollover image?

    Hi guys,
    I'm pretty much a novice when it come to DW, but i understand some things and can get by with a simple website(i only use design mode).
    Anyways, i understand how to use rollovers if its a basic image over image swap. My issue is, I have a link that says "T-shirts" and what i want is when you roll the mouse over that text, it swaps to another text -"1 or 2". Now on the "1 or 2" image, i want to have 2 seperate links on them.  I tried using hotspots but to no avail. Everytime, the "1 or2" text comes out as a single link. Is doing this possible? I'm using CS4 if that helps btw.
    Thanks!!

    I think you're trying to make something that is more complicated than it needs to be... First, as far as I know there is no easy way to accomplish what you're trying to do with a single image...
    The first option would be to split your initial image in half, and create a rollover effect on the left half on rollover with the specified link 1, and add a second rollover effect on the right side image so that it also changes. Do the same with the right half image - create the rollover effect along with the link for that image only, then add a rollover script that affects the left side image (I've attached a very basic sample to demonstrate in the zip folder - note that there are two rollover images - each with a separate web link, and each has a rollover effect that affects both buttons...)
    Second option is perhaps using a "Dropdown" menu that (on rollover) shows two more links... there are many ways this can be accomplished - the easiest (in my opinion) is by using the "spry menu bar". Once created, you can adjust the colors, fonts etc., and an image could be replaced on the initial link within the css... (my website is still under construction, but hopefully will show what I mean: http://www.jgigandet.com/) If you google "drop-down menu html, you'll find several other alternatives  to spry as well...
    Hope that helps...

  • Hot spots in an image

    I am editing a group photograph taken outdoors in the shade with a fill flash. Two of my subjects were wearing glasses and they have small but bright reflections from the flash on the rim or lens of the eyeglasses. These are literally just points of light in the photo, but they are distracting.
    I've looked at the images at very high magnification and each point is no more than a small cluster of blown-out pixels. I'm not sure which Elements tool to use or what the correct procedure is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Steve,
    <br />
    <br />So, how did you get everyone to smile and have their eyes open...at the same time. LOL.
    <br />
    <br />To get rid of hot pixels, I like to add a blank layer above my image and set it to darken. Next I grab the blur tool and use it over the hot pixels. (Note: Theres a box in the menu bar you need to check to make the tool work on a blank layer.)
    <br />
    <br />I thought I'd try my hand at your image.
    <br />
    <br />
    <a href="http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1SDFbdBjnP5U7aPuop2mBp5ge9k61Z1" /></a>
    <img alt="Picture hosted by Pixentral" src="http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1SDFbdBjnP5U7aPuop2mBp5ge9k61Z1_thumb.jpg" border="0" />
    <br />
    <br />I tend to let blend modes do most of my editing for me.
    <br />
    <br />If interested here's how I did this..
    <br />
    <br />1. I selected the sky then added a gradient adjustment layer. (Its the Chrome Gradient with reverse checked.) This layer is set to Hue 100% opacity.
    <br />
    <br />2. I created a blank layer and merged the background and gradient layer then I used Hue/Saturation in the menu bar to desaturate it. This layer is set to Color Burn. I masked off the trees and below. (If you dont use a layer mask add-on, you can either use create a clipping group with an adjustment layer mask and mask that way or grab the eraser and erase the areas you dont want the high contrast appliedand it will be ugly in the lower portion of this image. (This Color Burn layer is set at 100% opacity.)
    <br />
    <br />3. Next I added a Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer. (I checked legacy so that it would be just as it is in ElementsI use Photoshop.) I have masked off the opposite area that I applied the previous adjustmentso its only on the close trees down. (I used 30/40 for the settings.) The layer is Normal 100% Opacity.
    <br />
    <br />4. The next layer up is a blank layer set to Darken 100% opacity. On this layer, I used the blur tool on all of the hot pixel areas. This works well on all but a set on the blonde ladys face/ear area and on the older ladys glasses. These have a purple hueIll fix those next.
    <br />
    <br />5. I created a new blank layer and leave it at Normal 100% opacity. I grab the clone stamp and in normal blend mode clone the blonde ladys purple hot pixels away.
    <br />
    <br />6. I created another new blank layer over the last to fix the purple in the older ladys glasses. This layer is in Normal blend mode but I have lowered the opacity to 54%. I set the clone stamp to Color so I would only change the purple and darkened pixels.
    <br />
    <br />7. Next I created a new blank layer and merged everything into one layer. Note, I still have my original layers below the mergeIm not flattening. To this layer, I apply USM to sharpen the image. (If you know how to edge mask, I would recommend going that route.) For the purpose of this, I just applied USM to the entire image. This layer is set to Normal 59% because I over sharpened.
    <br />
    <br />8. I created another blank layer over this and set it to Darken 100% blend mode. I used the blur tool to remove a few artifacts sharpening the image brought out.
    <br />
    <br />9.Almost done. Now, I create a new blank layer and combine merge everything up to this point. (Did I mention the shortcut to merge a composite layer is control, alt, shift, E.). So, now I have everything combined on this top layer. Looks good but some areas need some blending.
    <br />
    <br />10. I duplicate my original background layer; then move it up the layer stack until it is directly below my corrected composite layer. Did you guess that Im going to blend using my original. LOL. I look at the slopes of the mountain. Some areas look too dark and the edges too sharp. I apply a mask to my corrected composite image and with a low opacity bush bring back some of the original photo until I reach a happy spot. I also did this with the tree line right above your familys heads. (Remember if you dont have a layer mask add-on, you can use a clipping mask to hijack an adjustment layer mask or use an eraser at low opacity to blend the images.
    <br />
    <br />11. Hmmm. Clothing has lost its detail in the shadows. To fix this, I duplicated the original and placed it over the corrected composite. I place the oginal layer into Linear dodge and drop the opacity to 20%. I mask out everything then paint in the mask over the areas with clothingavoiding that white coat. Linear Dodge will suck the detail out of that. Okay, better.
    <br />
    <br />(It looks good at this resolution but the formula might not hold when applied to your full resolution imagein particular I am not so sure how well the desaturated layer set to Color Burn blend step 2 will work when applied to your full resolution image. You might look at skipping the step and working through bumping the contrast using a different blend mode or another brightness contrast layer.) At full resolution you might need to add some noise to that gradient to make it blend into the photo as gradient's tend to be smoother than the surrounding image data. (I'm thinking maybe simplify...rasterize...the gradient layer then add noise to the resulting simplified layer.)
    <br />
    <br />edit: corrected a typo because I don't think implify is a word. LOL.
    <br />
    <br />Heres a link to the Elemask tutorial if you opt to hijack an adjustment layer mask.

  • Multiple  hot spot in a question slides

    Hai,
    Please let me know is it possible for multiple hotspot in
    Question Slide in captivate 3 ?. I want to give a spot in more than
    one location on an image in a question slide. Is it possible in
    Capitivate 3
    With thanks
    Pol

    Hi Pol
    Certainly Captivate 3 offers a question type of "Hotspot".
    and yes, multiple Hotspots may be designated as the correct answer.
    However, keep in mind that if you designate more than a single
    hotspot as the answer, ALL the hotspots designated as the answer
    must be present in order for it to score correctly. There is no
    provision for indicating one spot OR the other will count as
    correct.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Resizing multiple hot spot regions

    I have a site with a map that links to over 100 photos. The
    map is currently 1024 pixels wide but I want to increase it to
    around 1200 for better viewing. When I try though all the hotspots
    are out of line and too small. I understand why this happens but is
    there a way of expanding / resizing the whole area in one go.
    Thanks.

    if i recall, there is a way to do this using Fireworks.
    copy/paste just the image and the map code to a new temp
    page.
    in fireworks, under file menu, use Reconstitute table.
    that should import the image and the map spots. Resizing the
    image in
    fireworks should change the map points to match.

  • Hot spots to trigger image states in Apps

    I watched one of Terry White's videos on Adobe TV in which he used buttons (pins) on a map to reveal different images which were basically the different states of a multi-state object. He then output this to an iPad and everything worked fine. I've tried to replicate this as follows:
    Draw a box around part of a map, convert it to a button
    Create a stack of photo-images in separate frames, Select all of them and create a New Multi-State Object
    Select Hidden until triggered option for the multi-state Object
    Set the Button properties: On Roll-over, Go to State nnnnn (where nnnnn is one of the images in the multi-object state)
    This works perfectly in the SWF previewer, but when I output to Adobe Content Viewer the hotspots don't work, and the top-most object in the multi-state object always shows all the time.
    Also, I've inserted a video (MP4) file but it doesn't show in the Content Viewers either. I get sound on the dekstop Content Viewer, but nothing on my Android phone.
    Has anyone made this work please?

    Terry’s stuff is great but much of it is two years old or more. And SWF is not DPS. Rollovers are not supported.
    If you have a Lynda.com account, I invite you to watch my just released DPS Essentials course.
    Here’s a link to my blog post announcing the course: http://boblevine.us/my-first-lynda-com-title-adobe-digital-publishing-suite-essential-trai ning-is-live/
    If you don’t have a Lynda subscription, there a link in the post for a one week trial.
    Finally, please post any followups or DPS related question in the DPS forum, not here.

  • Combining multiple layers into one "final image" then working on each layer's opacity to affect what the final image looks like

    Ideally the "final" image would be displayed.  I'd go over to the layers panel and work on each layer, dialing up and down the opacity and see the effects on the "final" image.  This is in regards to interior real estate.  Normally I combine my images in Photomatix (different exposures) and have that method down.  But what I'd like to be able to do is to, say, strobe different areas of the scene while shooting maybe six images (same exposure), load those six into CS5 (File>Scripts>Load Files Into Stack) then proceed.
    I've looked at a ton of videos on Youtube and searched CS5 Help and just can't find the answer to what exactly what I'm trying to do.  I can choose Edit>Auto-Blend Layers and that does indeed give me a final image (like in Enfuse or Photomatix) but I haven't found a way to then adjust each individual layer to affect that final image.  And I know there's a way, maybe coming at this from a completely different direction.  Thanks.

    Ok I will take the last question first, since that is probably the easiest.end
    A merged file or a flattened file is the same thing as a composite.
    A merged file still has its transparency and data that is outside the canvas area.
    A flattened file is a merged file that is converted to a background layer that does not support transparency or data outside the canvas.
    A composite can be a merged copy of the existing layers if you use the multiple key strokes I mentioned above. Whereas a merged file is a composite of the original layers. So I personally use the term composite to mean a copy as merged and flatten already explain that process, no need to give them an additional term to mean the same thing.
    Generally blend modes work by selecting individual layers before changing the blend mode. However you can group the layers or convert them to a smart object and apply a blend to that group or object.
    Normally you set the blend mode as you work on each layer. But you could set all of them to overlay or reduce the opacity to 30 or 50 percent to see through all the layers, then adjust them later on.
    I am not sure how it works on the mac, but on windows you can select the blend text box then use the up and down arrow keys to change the blend mode to see how it looks.
    I recommend that you go through the free videos on layers, masks, opacity, and layer styles. This will help you dramatically. Also a few books on the subject will help has well.

  • Multiple elements in a rollover image?

    Hello,
    I am creating a project and I am trying to determine whether or not it is possible to have two elements appear when using a rollover.
    For example:
    When you roll over the image of a coworker, it will display a second picture of the coworker where the original picture was, AND it will display a caption that explains that coworkers biography. The caption that explains the biography will be on a different area of the same slide.
    Is this something that is possible in Adobe Captivate?
    Thanks!

    You can achieve this by bringing both the image and the biography within the Slidelet boundary. The objects between the image and the biography can remain as is even though it looks like it is a part of slidelet on the slide.

  • Submit button for hot spot quiz

    the hot spot quiz functionality is not very intuitive.  is there a way to proceed to the next slide after the user hits "submit?"   also, is there a way to only allow one hotspot selection that once the user makes a selection he/she cannot keeping placing selections all over the page? thanks.

    Hello Lilybiri,
    Thank you for offering to help find a solution for my Hot Spot Quiz issues.  If you would like to (or have the time to) help me here's what I am trying to accomplish:
    We need some Hot Spot quizzes which require the user to click on one, or sometimes one of several, hot spots on an image object.  I have already encountered the Captivate 4 hot spot quiz limitation of having to click on all of a group of hot spots in order for the answer to be correct when we want the user to click on just one of any of the correct hot spots.  I have developed a customer specific header and footer bar template for each slide, with the footer bar containing navigational buttons for beginning/previous/next/end functionality, have disabled this navigation in the question slides as we don't want this available to the user during the quizzing.  Instead, we want to advance to the next question slide if the user clicks the correct hot spot, or produce a text caption (with a continue button to advance to the next question slide) accompanied by an arrow animation indicating the correct hot spot to click (which would require executing an advanced action).  The user gets one attempt to answer the question correctly.  Each question slide will have a text caption with the question for the user to answer.  Because of the limitations I've encountered with Captivate 4 hot spot quizzing I've been considering creating custom question slides just as you suggested.  Unfortunately, we have a very tight deadline to meet and a lot of content to pour into this project, so I need solutions that are as simple and quick to develop as possible.  It seems that sometimes Captivate does not allow for this to happen and I've been discovering that it's been increasingly frustrating to use.  Any assistance you could lend me would be greatly appreciated and I thank you for your time.

  • Linking multiple images to one rollover hotspot.  Multiple hotspots on one slide.

    Does anyone know if there is a widget or work around or something that will allow me to do this? My job depends on it
    Thanks!

    As long as you're not worried about output to HTML5, the Event Handler widget is probably your best bet:
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate-widgets/event-handler-interactive
    I think what you're probably trying to do is have multiple images appear or disappear when a user mouses over a given hot spot. Is that correct?  If so, then all you really need is a single Event Handler widget attached to a highlight box set to 0% Alpha (to make it act as a transparent hotspot).  You can execute one Advanced Action to SHOW the images via the On Success event set to Roll Over, and a different Advanced Action set to the Roll Out even on the Failure side of the widget to HIDE all the same images.  Set the widget preference to Reset Success Fail Criteria on Action so that you can perform the mouseover and mouseout actions repeatedly.
    You can even stack multiple widgets onto a single object, each widget can be set to listen for a different mouse event and do something different depending on what the user does.
