Multiple Item Master Organizations

We are working on an Oracle Implementation for a large firm in South Korea.
Our client covers many different industires and operate nationally,
it is inevitable to use Multi-Organization structure.
And we are also considering implementing multiple item master organizations
under one installation of Oracle applications.
( Acutally We have 1 Set Of Books, 1 Legal Entity, 13 Operating Units )
Cause there are much difference between chemical industry and Heavy Industry,
Our Client says it just has little business impacts with 2 separate item master organizations.
But According to Oracle documents, Oracle does recommend not to difine
multiple item masters.
We are not sure if there could be much functional or technical impacts with multiple item master organizations.
Cause we have no reference site here in Korea.
Has anyone been involved in this type of situation before?
Are there any other points for considerations?
We would very appreciate hearing from you ASAP.

I am not sure if i understood everything but I would say go with single item master. Its simple & easily to manage item attribute later on.

    I managed to import the default warehouse, using the Add and Update Items option. The items have more that one warehouse, and am trying the same this only that this time no update is going through though it says successful.

  • R12.1.1 Item Master Organization  Calender field is disabled

    HI,
    While creating Item Master Organization in R12.1.1, calender field is disabled. I have defined & built workday calender but field is disabled while creating Inventory Org. I couldn't find any reason on metalink as well.
    Can any one guide me about the issue ?

  • Multiple Item Master Issues

    We are looking to add a newly aqcuired company to our Apps instance. What parameters MUST be shared across both companies? For example, we would not want to use all the same flexfield structures (stock locator, item catalog, item category, etc), since the businesses are in different markets, and their items are not at all related. Can this be done in the same instance?

    In Oracle application you have the concept of single structure and multiple structures flexfields, For example for one instance you can have only one structure for system item flexfield but in the case of item categories you can create multiple structure i.e. you can create multiple structure in single instance.

  • Relation between item master org and operating Unit

    How single item master org can relate to multiple operating Unit so that items defined at Master Org level can be accessed in other operating units ?

    Hi,
    Item will be accessed in inventory organizations which you assigned the item to.
    To access items from particular Operating Unit in Purchasing module
    define Operating Unit Organization as a Inventory Organization as well.
    Then choose this Organization as a Inventory Organization in Purchasing : Setup>Organizations>Financial Options.
    In Order Management you choose an Operating Unit which items can be accessed.
    Each item assign to Item Master Organization and to Operating Unit Organization and to required Inventory Organizations.
    This works in 11i. I dont know how it is in R12.

    We have created two operating units and two inventory org's.
    we have created an item in teh item master and assigned to the inventory org.
    now we have a scenario.
    one inventory org belongs to one OU and another inventory belongs to another OU.
    i have created an item in item master and want to share the same item to different org's of different OU's..
    can anybody explain.

    you need to have organization access for all the org's which you need to assign item..
    For example i have vision china..which is both inventory org and OU..and M1 which is inventory org..which is under ision operations..i have given inventory organization access to both this org to inventory super user responisibility..
    Now when i create a item in v1 item master..i should able to see M1 and vision china in organization assignments.
    so that i can assign the item to vision china as well

    Dear Aarti,
    I would recommend to have multiple items for the different brands you are selling.
    For example, you can call the item code Samsung, Sony etc and all of these item can be added to an item group called TV.
    Then you can assign a price to the items in the price lists.
    Alternatevely, if you need to have one single item called TV and different prices according to the brand, create a number of price lists called Sony, Sumsung etc and then if you know which customers buy a particular brand you can connect the price list to the customer under
    Business partner master data - Payment Terms - Price list.
    Please, if these 2 options are not helpful let us know the exact scenario and business reason behind your request.

  • Order multiple quantity in item master data

    Hello experts,
    I cannot  import from Excel file new values for order multiple quantity in item master data (in section planning data). After importing I see that  records were imported successfully, but all data which we put in past have been  changed  to zero and planning method is changed from MRP at None. We have 8.81 PL10 (updating at the end of January).
    Do you have any similar experience?

    I have done this in SAP 8.8.1 PL08 using the Import/Export under utilities and seems to be normal. I have only chosen Item and Order Multiple for my template.

  • Delete Multiple Records from Item Master

    Hi,
    We received wrong master data which has been uploaded and two groups have to be deleted. All the items in those particular groups have also to be deleted. Can anyone suggest how to delete multiple records from Item Master?
    Currently I am navigating through each Item and doing a Right Click + Remove. It is very painful given the huge number of records.

    Hi Sudatt.....
    I recommend you not to run any kind of delete or update SQL query as it harms DB.
    You can create your own front end application with the help of any technical consultant which can be
    achieved very easily. Else such problems create a big problem during upgradation to next version.......

    This year we are planning to implement R12 for country B.
    1. Can we use the same Item Master for country B as well? I read Oracle suggests to use 1 item master only for the ease of maintenance. Both countries A and B have separate Business Groups. So if we intend to use item master of A in B, what should be the setup so that we can view Item master while defining financial options in inventory setups in B. Currently it is not coming under the LOV.
    2. What is an item validation org? How is it different than an Item master.

    You need to set the profile "HR:Cross Business Group" as "Yes" to get the master org visible across business group.

    Use the bookmarks library. You may use Shift +Click, and Ctrl + Click to create groupings of selected bookmarks to drag and drop.

  • How do I update grouping or description for multiple items?

    As the question implies, I would like to update information in the Grouping and Description fields for multiple items as a way to keep things organized. What I have discovered is that there are some quirks in the new Get Info window that were not in past implementations, which are completely inexplicable and nonsensical to me.
    For instance, when you open the Get Info window for an item that has no information in, for instance, the Grouping field, you will not see a Grouping input field, as in this screenshot. The Grouping field should be where the bottom arrow is. Notice also that the Description field is available. I will get back to that in a minute.
    If you manually double-click into the Grouping field on the main iTunes screen, you can enter the information there. Then, when you open the Get Info window, ta-dah! The field magically reappears, as in the screenshot below.
    The trouble comes when you want to edit this field for multiple tracks. If you select multiple tracks, and they do not all have the Grouping field already populated, the field does not appear. What this means is that you are forced to manually enter the information for every track! This is completely unacceptable when you need to edit information for, as in my case, 122 tracks. The following image shows the Get Info window that appears after selecting two items, one with the Grouping field manually populated, and one with no info in the Grouping field.
    Not only has the Grouping field disappeared, but the Description field, as well. Thanks, Apple, but I think I can decide for myself whether or not to populate these fields for multiple items. Let's get 'em back, huh?
    SO… does anyone know of any valid method for accomplishing this task? Without manually entering the same information in hundreds of fields? This is the future; computers are supposed to do these monotonous tasks for us, aren't they?
    Oh, please don't suggest Option-clicking to open the older, better, Get Info window, as Apple has decided that we should not have that option any longer. We apparently have to organize our music their way. Think different!

    The Add Field button was in the editors of 12.0.1 (where the new-style editors had a very "half-finished" feel)  - it is not there in 12.1.  Apple have determined which metadata fields should be available for each kind of media, with no option for the user to modify this.  In Apple's own words: "Get Info has been completely redesigned in iTunes 12 to focus your attention only on what’s necessary for the selected item."
    The only options are:
    temporarily change the media kind (Options tab) to one that includes the field you want to add values to, enter those values, and then change the media kind back again
    make the relevant fields visible in an appropriate list view and edit values there - the big limitation being that you can only do this one item at a time
    I can see - to a degree - why Apple may have made some limitations so that metadata elements are available based on their relevance to different media kinds.  However, one of the issues mentioned above seems like a bug - if a single audiobook file can have a Description tab, I see no reason at all for that not to be available for multiple items of the same kind.
    If not already done so, report these issues and dissatisfaction with the "new" metadata editors in 12.1 (and the absence of a "back door" for the old-style ones) using Apple's iTunes feedback page.

    We can specify only one Item validation org for one operating unit (OU) in Order management as well as in Purchasing.
    Say we have total 5 orgs in OU, one is ITM item master and others are ORG1, ORG2, ORG3 and ORG4. Suppose ORG1 is an Item validation org...
    Now if Oracle is going to validate attribute values against ORG1 only then problem may come... in case few attributes are controlled at organization level then same attribute can have different values in different orgs say the attributes are Purchasable and Customer order enables..
    If the item is not purchasable and not Customer Order enabled in ORG1 (Item validation Org).. then do you mean it can't be sold or purchased in that OU??... I don't think so...
    So I want to know what is the significance of having Item Validation Organization...ac

  • Attachment from item master to SO

    The Client (on 11.5.10) needs to carry forward the attachments from item master to the SO.
    None of the document categories were carried to SO.
    I created a new document category in OM and enabled it for Forms 'Sales Orders' and 'Item master'. But this category was not available in item master form.
    Can anyone throw some light on this?
