I am trying to move multiple mail messages into finder folders for organization and filing purposes. I know it will save these as mail files but that is what I would like anyway. It lets me drag and drop one message at a time but does not let me do it for multiple messages at a time. Does anybody know how to do this?
You might consider using the "Archive" capability of Mail. Look at Archive in Mail Help.

I want to archive emails into folders in the finder. I can do this by dragging and dropping individual emails but not bulk emails.
Does anywone know the best way of doing this?
The reason I want to do it is once we have compleated a contract with a client, I want to archive all the messages, pictures, contacts etc into one finder folder. This way, my mail app wont keep growing horribly in size every year.

We are looking to have newsletter capabilities in the portal. A good example would be the "Dev Today Newsletter - News Perspective" available from SDN. Essentially we would like users of our portal installation to choose the topics/news that they are interested in receiving and the frequency and then get that content in a formatted e-mail in the same manner that the Dev Today Newsletter is received.
All suugestions on achieving this outcome are welcome and much appreciated.

I have a customer who has just migrated from iMS 5 to newest JES05Q4. Everything seems to be OK except one thing: In iMS 5 end users were able to use Delegated Admin to manage their mailing lists.In 05Q4, Delegated Admin does not allow end users to login. Is this a configuration issue, or is that function removed from the newest Delegated Admin? What is the recommended way for web-based mailing list manipulations?Yeah, that's gone from the current DA. We're hoping to get better stuff into JES5, due out sometime around the end of the year.

End user cannot e-mail to most people... 550 error.
I have an end user that reported to me that she hasn't been able to e-mail to some of her contacts for almost a year now. When I questioned what she was doing and see here is what I got.
She uses WebAccess to manage e-mail. When she tries to send e-mail to contacts both inside and outside the district the other end user never gets said e-mail. She states she doesn't get an error or anything. When I have her demonstrate the process I notice that she gets a lot of "Save as Draft" when she presses the send button. I am still trying to figure out how to resolve that issue. She stated this started happening on her home (Personal) desktop but is now happening on her work laptop as well. She stated she was able to send e-mail using her phone.
When I e-mailed her the first time I received an error from the MTA stating "550 A proper RFC822/2822 address must be given." I ran a GWCHeck reindex/fix against this account and it reported errors as well as fixed them. I was able to get her to e-mail to me using her laptop after that but she is still stating her home desktop isn't working. I can't find much regarding this specific error as stated. I did send her a response asking her to delete all contacts in Frequent Contacts and try to e-mail me again to see if she has issues with that. I am still waiting on a response for this.
Anyone have an idea on how to resolve this?

Clearing the frequent contact list and the GWCheck are good starts.
Do subsequent GWChecks for this user come clean now? Sometimes the
errors it says it clears needs some additional prodding to fully clear.
Do you run regular GWChecks for the whole PostOffice? I usually aim for
Structure Fix daily, and Contents Fix weekly. Checking those logs for

It would also be worth following a particular message with the user. Is
the address actually accurate, what does the Properties of the sent
item show, what messages does GWIA give about the message?
If needed, there is message tracking that can be turned on to track the

On client computers that are protected by DPM 2010 and prior versions, you had to put the end users account in the local administrators group. If you did not add the end user account to the local administrators group you would get this error after opening
the recovery tab in the DPM client: “DPM found no recovery points which you are authorized to restore on the specified DPM server. You can restore only those recovery points for which you were an administrator at the time the
backup was taken. To restore other recovery points, contact your DPM administrator, or attempt to restore from another DPM.” This is not ideal on many networks because the end users are not allowed to have local administrator access.
Ths fix to this was included in hotfix 2465832 found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2465832.
This hotfix (a hotfix rollup package for DPM 2010) resolves other issues with DPM 2010 as well. You can find the full list of what this hotfix corrects on that link.
One would think this issue should have been resolved in DPM 2012, however I am encountering the same exact issue, had to include end-users into the workstation local admin group before they can search for recovery points on the DPM server. This is not acceptable
practice.
Is there a new hotfix for the same issue on DPM 2012? I am hesitated to apply KB2465832 since it also includes many other fixes for DPM 2010, which may not appicable for version 2012.

The problem actually is that you still need to use an admin account to write on the registry, so ensure you configure it properly on the schedule task.
In case you use a service account on the schedule task... the "$uservariable" will get populated with that account. As a work around to this... I changed it for the following line:

This is a real issue. I am a Help-desk in a global company and after changing a mail list name in Server end, users can't see the update in outlook client. Even I download Offline address book in full detail, user still can't see the change in her outlook.
Does anyone know how to fix it?

If you switch to Online Mode instead of Cached Exchange Mode, does the user see the change?

How to archive multiple outlook 2007 mail folders into a single archive file?
I just migrated a client from Eudora (yeah ... I know ;-) to Outlook 2007.
He has previously set up a folder within Eudora for each year's worth of old mail going back a number of years.
I'd like to archive the oldest 5 years or so of mail into a single archive, but the manual archiving function in Outlook appears to want to create a separate archive file for each mail folder. Is there a way to select multiple folders and place them in a
single archive or must I create archives for each folder and then open them back up in Outlook and merge them?

I applied the registy update and it the (MANUAL) archive action still picks up no files....
But .......... I've just discovered the "other" Eudora import problem with which I'm sure quite familiar ...
HTML formatted e-mails being "converted" to almost unintelligible plain-text format.... :-(
This is a pretty big deal to me and worth paying up for a solution ... I found the Aid4Mail and Stellar MBOX to PST products recommended on your company's website.
I think I will be buying one or the other of them .........
Do you think one is superior to the other?
The PST file on my new machine is now ~1.5Gb populated with all the folders from my old Eudora account and LOTS of hosed up HTML --> plaintext mail
I have the PST in operation for other functions (calendar / Todo / iPhone sync). so would like to Delete all the "old" Eudora folders leaving just "IN" and OUT and a bit more then have
either Aid4Mail or MBOX2PST import the Eudora mail correctly into my existing PST file but I'm not sure that's a reasonable expectation...
In "additional" expectations ... maybe these programs would import with correct time-stamps and fix my archiving issue also ;-) ?

Multiple JRE's running on end user computer IE6
Hi - First time poster...
I was reading the other topic on the Citrix server and JRE's, so I wanted to ask if it was the same for end user computers.
We have an upgrade that will be performed that will use JRE 1.4.2_06. Currently, we have 1.4.1_05 on some computers and 1.4.2_05 on others.
Those are used for other applications that require the JRE. When the 1.4.2_06 is installed, will it trash those applications and not work if 1.4.2_06 is not supported, or will it find the current version it needs (since it's still there) and use that?

GeneIt won't trash the applications (see http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/compatibility.html to get 100% proof). If you install a new version, this will be used by default (if you just use "java"). Of course you can still use other JREs / SDKs when you explicitely use the version ("c:\Programme\j2sdk1.4.2_04\bin\java").

How to send e-mail alert to the user job is successful or failed.
Hi Experts,
I have scheduled a job using DBMS_JOB Package; in this job I am calling a procedure.
How can we send an e-mail(alert) to the user if the job is successful (or) job fails.
If the job is successfully completed, then we have to send mail as “Job is completed successfully along with job name”.
If the job fails we have to send email as “error message of the job along with job name”(why the job is failed).
This alert should be sending automatically no manual intervention.

I think you can do by creating mailing procedures and call it in the loop and outside the loop.
There would be two procedure one in inside loop which will execute after successfull completion of the loop.
Other would be in the exception block like i shown in the below code you have written;

Sending Mail attachments to windows users
When sending Mail attachments (Jpegs) to windows PCs they arrive embedded in the message body, not as an attachment that can be saved. Can I, or the recipient, do anything to rectify this?

If Windows users have trouble with your attachments
Windows users might not be able to read attachments you send, the messages they’re attached to, or both; or they might see two files when you’ve sent only one.
Try these solutions:
Choose Edit > Attachments > Always Send Windows Friendly Attachments.
Choose Edit > Attachments > “Always Insert Attachments at End of Message” to automatically have attachments inserted at the end of a message. Otherwise, some Windows recipients might not easily see all of your message because parts of it are put into attachments, which they have to open to read.
Use filename extensions, such as .doc for a Microsoft Word document, in the names of files you send to Windows recipients. This way, the files can be read by a Windows application.
If you send a file (for example, “MyFile”) to someone who uses a Windows computer, the recipient might see two files: “MyFile” and “._MyFile.” The recipient can ignore the file named “._MyFile.”
If you have a New Message window open, the Edit > Attachments commands don’t contain “Always” and they apply only to the message you’re currently composing.
If you haven’t set the default, click Attach in the toolbar of the New Message window and select the Send Windows Friendly Attachments checkbox. -

The purpose of this document is to document the steps required to sign and use an
applet using a self-signed cert or CA authorized in the JDK 1.3 plugin.

These steps describe the creation of a self-signed applet. This is useful for testing purposes. For use of public reachable applets, there will be needed a "real" certificate issued by an authority like VeriSign or Thawte. (See step 10 - no user will import and trust a self-signed applet from an unkown developer).
The applet needs to run in the plugin, as only the plugin is platform- and browser-independent. And without this indepence, it makes no sense to use java...
1. Create your code for the applet as usual.
It is not necessary to set any permissions or use security managers in
the code.
2. Install JDK 1.3

To make the plug-in work for any browser you have two options with the JDK 1.3 plugin.
1) Is to export a cert request using the key tool and send it to a CA verification source like verisign.
When the reponse comes back, import it into the keystore overwriting the original cert for the generated key.
To export request:
keytool -certreg -alias tstkey -file tstcert.req
To import response:
keytool -import -trustcacerts -alias tstkey -file careply.crt
An applet signed with a cert that has been verified by a CA source will automatically be recognized by the plugin.
2) For development or otherwise, you may want to just use your self-signed certificate.
In that case, the JDK 1.3 plugin will recognize all certs that have a root cert located in the JDK 1.3 cacerts keystore.
This means you can import your test certificate into this keystore and have the plugin recognize your jars when you sign them.
To import self-signed certificate into the cacerts keystore, change directory to where the JDK plugin key store is located.
For JDK 1.3.0_02: C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.0_02\lib\security
For JDK 1.3.1: C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1\lib\security
Import your self-signed cert into the cacerts keystore:
keytool -import -keystore cacerts -storepass changeit -file tstcert.crt
(the password is literally 'changeit')
Now, regardless of which method you use, the applet should be recognized as coming from a signed jar. The user can choose to activate it if he / she chooses. If your applet uses classes from multiple jars, for example Apache's Xerce's parser, you will need to sign those jars as well to allow them to execute in the client's brower. Otherwise, only the classes coming from the signed jar will work with the java.security.AllPermission setting and all other classes from unsigned jars will run in the sandbox.
NOTE: Unless otherwise specified by the -keystore command in all keytool and jarsigner operations, the keystore file used is named '.keystore' in the user's home directory.
The first time any keystore is accessed (including the default) it will be created and secured with the first password given by the user. There is no way to figure out the password if you forget it, but you can delete the default file and recreate it if necessary. For most operations, using the -keystore command is safer to keep from cluttering or messing up your default keystore.
