Multiple queries on report builder?

I know how to create a report in report builder with a single
query but in this case i would like to create a single page report
that consist of 3 sections containing results from 3 seperate
queries. how do i do something like this?

Using subreports
Subreports let you nest a report within your report. The data
you
display in a subreport is typically related to the data in
the main
report and you enable this by passing one or more subreport
parameters
to the subreport. However, the data displayed in a subreport
can also be
unrelated to the data in the main report.

  • Multiple queries in reports with XSL-FO and without BI Publisher

    Hello,
    I'm trying to find out how to create a complex report in APEX for printing. The report contains multiple queries in different layout, images and static text.
    I don't have the possibility to use BI Publisher and I'm not an XSL-FO expert. However I'm trying to find out if it's possible at all not using BI Publisher.
    I'm having the impression that multiple report queries and layouts in APEX can only be used in combination with BI Publisher. I'd be glad if someone could give me an example of how to do multiple queries and layout in a single report only using XSL-FO.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Dynamic queries in report builder 6i ( ref cursor query )

    Hi everyone,
    My requirement is that I want to create a report where the query is dynamic. The dynamic part will be known at runtime as it is being passed via a parameter. My query looks like this :
    select * from emp where sal :p1 :p2
    Possible values for :p1 are - '>', '<', '>=', '<=', '=', '!='
    Possible values for :p2 are - any value entered by the user
    I tried creating a query in report builder based on a ref cursor. But it does not allow me to create the query for the ref cursor dynamically. That means I have to hardcode the query in the program.
    I tried using place holder columns without success.
    Can someone please help me ?
    Regards,
    Al

    Hi,
    You can use lexical paramters in the sql query
    x - char - parameter
    select * from emp &x
    you need to pass the value for x in the parameter as
    'where sal < 1234'.
    Note : Lexical variable should be of char datatype.
    This is an alternative to the ref cursors.
    This works. Hope this is clear.

  • How do i call a :cp_ or a :cf in a query in reports builder?

    Hi, i got a report.
    i included a function in 1 of my queries in reports builder but the report is running very long now.
    so i tryed to put the function in that query in a :cf (formula column) and call the :cf in my query but its not picking up the value.
    am i missing something?
    or is there another way?
    please help asap.
    thanks....

    in my data model in reports builder :
    i have a main query with about 5 other queries.
    in one of the 5 queries i am getting tax information, which contains unions, i have just pasted one of the unions.
    If you look in this query (in bold) you will see i tried inderting the database function, but it runs too slow.
    then i tried to insert the same function in a cf, and then tried to call the cf in my query, just to get the value (tax_start_date).
    the cf doesn't affect the performance and i can see the value in the xml but cant seem to call the value in my query.

  • CF Report Builder - multiple queries

    I am a CF developer who has worked a fair bit with coding
    reports manually. Have taken the plunge with report builder and
    generally like what I see, BUT am quite disappointed with an
    apparent lack of documentation or tutorials on complex reporting
    techniques.
    I need to do a report which ideally requires two queries, the
    results of which the report's purpose is to compare.
    The problem is, from what I can tell, a .CFR can only have
    ONE query (which I find odd). Can anyone suggest a way of being
    able to have more than one query result set passed into a .CFR.
    I am starting to wonder that CF Report Builder might be great
    for fairly basic, single data set reports, but no good for large
    complex reports. I would be interested in hearing others opinions
    on this.
    Many Thanks in Advance.

    Thanks tmschmitt. You are right in that I am (was) stuck on
    passing in multiple queries. What I have managed to do is use the
    Advanced option of the query builder to write my two seperate
    queries, then combine them into one recordset by doing a Query on
    the Queries. Not sure if this is the best way around it, but it
    seems to be working fine. Problem now is that I need to manually
    craete 500+ "Query Fields" (yuk).
    I haven't really delved into the sub-reports yet, but have a
    feeling they won't meet my current needs. Basically i have 253
    columns of demographic data. I need one recordset (A) with this
    data from one geographic location with a recordset from a different
    location (B). I then need to lay out the data with each field from
    B beside it's corresponding field from A. In short, it is a
    comparitive report whereby the reader can compare a given value
    (e.g. avg income) from one area with that from another. This would
    be fairly straightforward in a scripted report, but with Report
    Builder appears to be quite cumbersome and potentially unmanagable
    as I need to handle each field explicitly (rather than looping over
    recordsets and structures to generate the different sections of the
    report).

  • How to pass an array or structure, in addition to a query, or multiple queries to the Report Builder as parameters

    Is there a way to pass an array or structure for example as parameters, in addition to a query, or multiple queries to the Report Builder in CF8? I believe this was recommended by users to be in CF8.

    BrianO,
    Although it's been a while, I thought I'd provide the code to do this for you. It works for me in CF8, and probably will in CF7.
    Here I create a structure called My, and provide that one parameter to my CFReportParam tag.
    <CFSet My = {
    Client = "Client Name",
    ReportDateFrom = DateFormat(ThisStartDate, DateMask),
    ReportDateTo = DateFormat(ThisEndDate, DateMask),
    PageHeaderImage = ImagePath & "\Logos\Page_Header.png",
    WatermarkImage = ImagePath & "\Logos\Watermark.png",
    GetBarSummary = GetBarSummary,
    GetPieSummary = GetPieSummary
    }>
    <CFReport Template="#ReportPath#\SpendSummary.cfr" Format="PDF" Query="GetSummary">
    <CFReportParam Name="My" Value="#My#">
    </CFReport>
    Inside the report itself, reference the given parameter as Param.My.PageHeaderImage for example. It can be referenced that way from any expression inside the report builder. You can even use the queries as the data source for charts (using the Data From a Query -> Query Builder -> Advanced) by entering "Param.My.GetPieSummary" where it says "Variable containing query object".

  • Multiple queries in a single report?

    I'm having some issues with the ColdFusion Report Builder...
    I have a database table called "Items" that includes fields
    for Reviewer and Status. I want to create a report that will list a
    reviewer, then express the number of items where the Status is
    "open" as a total or record count. I want to do the same for total
    items, and then express the number of "open" items as a percentage.
    For example:
    REVIEWER, OPEN ITEMS, TOTAL ITEMS, PERCENT OPEN
    John Doe, 10, 20, 50%
    Jane Smith, 15, 60, 25%
    ...and so on.
    So far I've only been able to get my report to display the
    recordcount of the entire query. In order troubleshoot the problem
    I created a regular cfm page to do the same thing. Here's what I
    did:
    <cfquery name="getreviewers"
    datasource="#APPLICATION.datasource#">
    SELECT DISTINCT Reviewer
    FROM Items
    ORDER BY Reviewer
    </cfquery>
    <cfoutput query="getreviewers">
    <cfquery name="getopenitems"
    datasource="#APPLICATION.datasource#">
    SELECT Status
    FROM Items
    WHERE Status='open'
    AND Reviewer = '#Reviewer#'
    </cfquery>
    <cfset open = getopenitems.recordcount>
    <cfquery name="getallitems"
    datasource="#APPLICATION.datasource#">
    SELECT Status
    FROM Items
    WHERE Reviewer = '#Reviewer#'
    </cfquery>
    <cfset all = getallitems.recordcount>
    <cfset percent = (open / all) * 100>
    #getreviewers.DR_Item_Reviewer#, #open#, #all#,
    #Round(percent)#%
    </cfoutput>
    That worked great, but as you can see I had to nest a couple
    of queries inside a <cfoutput>. I don't know how to
    incorporate this into the report builder, as it seems you can only
    specify a single query. Another thing that occurs to me is perhaps
    I'm going about this the wrong way. Is there perhaps a function
    that will display things the way I want them without fussing with
    multiple queries? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in
    advance.

    It seems like you are trying to do a subreport. You can nest
    reports within the report feature...just check out the subreport
    feature under the help section. If that doesn't help let me
    know.

  • Report with Multiple queries too slow in BI Publisher 11g

    Hi, I have a report in 11g where i need to create multiple queries to show them in report. I tried to combine everything in one query, but i found that the query is too huge and hard to understand and maintain. I created 3 data sets and linked them together. In SQL dev, the main query is returning about 315 records and first detail query returns less than 100 records and second detail query is returning one record which is BLOB. Each query returns data within a couple of seconds from SQL Developer. The entire report from BI Publisher should be just 21 page PDF output. Did anyone face performance issues while running reports with multiple queries in 11g? I ran reports that have single query which returned 10K pages PDF and never had an issue while everthing is in one query. This is the first time Iam attempting to create multiple queries. Can someone help me understand what i might be doing wrong or missing here. Thank you.

    Isn't there a way for you to do this via a Package/Procedure versus having multiple queries?
    Per the BI Publisher guide,
    Following are recommended guidelines for building data models:
    Reduce the number of data sets or queries in your data model as much as possible. In general, the fewer data sets and queries you have, the faster your data model will run. While multiquery data models are often easier to understand, single-query data models tend to execute more quickly. It is important to understand that in parent-child queries, for every parent, the child query is executed.
    You should only use multiquery data models in the following scenarios:
    To perform functions that the query type, such as a SQL query, does not support directly.
    To support complex views (for example, distributed queries or GROUP BY queries).
    To simulate a view when you do not have or want to use a view.

  • Multiple Queries  in Shared Components Report Queries

    Hey all,
    I am creating a report query which has multiple queries and I am running into to some issues with the builder.
    1.Whenever I try to edit a query it always sends me to the same query. (I can see that it is passing a different ID in the url, but the query never changes)
    - Ex: I create a report query and add two queries, SELECT 1 FROM DUAL and SELECT 2 FROM DUAL. no matter which querry i try to edit it always shows SELECT 1 FROM DUAL.
    2. There is no way to delete individual queries.
    - does anyone know a workaround to delete a query? (rather than just deleeting the entire report query)
    Cheers,
    Tyson Jouglet

    This was a bug that has been fixed in APEX version 3.2.1
    (its always helpful to list the version you are using along with your question)
    If you are using this with a BI publisher report layout, you will also get problems with earlier versions as the rowsets don't always get returned in the correct order.
    See this thread for more details....
    Bi Publisher result set question
    I ended up deleting my whole query and spending a long, careful afternoon adding the 33 queries I had in order one by one having made SURE they were all EXACTLY what I wanted using SQL Developer.

  • Multiple Queries on Interactive Report

    hi all,
    Can i run multiple queries based on some condition in creating an interactive report?? I mean
    i want to run a single query as
    if :P12_QUERY == 1 then
    first query
    else if :P12_QUERY == 2 then
    second query
    end if;
    Please provide me the syntax if its possible. Plz help me in this regard.
    With Regards,
    Sunil Bhatia

    Hello,
    You will need to create a pipeline function and use it in your query. But both your queries have to return the same dataset.
    Example:
    function choose_query(v_query_type integer) return some_type pipelined
    is
    v_query varchar2(4000);
    v_cur sys_refcursor;
    v_row some_type;
    begin
    if :P12_QUERY == 1 then
    v_query := 'select ....';
    else if :P12_QUERY == 2 then
    v_query := 'select ....';
    end if;
    open v_cur for v_query;
    loop
    v_row := some_type(null, null, null);
    fetch v_cur into v_row;
    exit when v_cur%notfound;
    pipe row (v_row);
    end loop;
    close v_cur;
    end;In interactive report you have to set query:
    select * from table(choose_query(:P12_QUERY ))

  • Bursting a report with multiple queries

    Hi,
    I need to set-up bursting in BIP for a report with multiple queries. The output format is pdf and delivery is through e-mail. Since the queries need to be linked, I'm trying to do this using data template. I've set-up split and burst based on a field (store_id) from the first query which is used as a bind variable in the subsequent queries. So I'd ideally want the report to be split based on store_id. The report works fine if I use a parameter for store_id and view the output by store_id. When I try to schedule the report for bursting, it generates and e-mails the reports but only the last report appears to have correct data output while the others have only the output from the first query (and all other queries appear to return nothing in the report).
    Any suggestions on what could be the issue here? Thanks!

    Hello user6428199,
    When you use ":Q1_STORE_ID" in your queries, BI Publisher looks for a report parameter named Q1_STORE_ID. Change all your report queries to get data for all the store_id's available. As you are bursting the report using the store_id as the bursting key, BI Publisher will split the report based on the stored_id and delivers content based on it. No matter how many queries you may have, BI Publisher will loop through all the store_id's available and all the queries will return data for that particular id in a report.
    Thanks,
    Machaan

  • Comparing fields from multiple entities in the same report (report builder 1.0)

    Created a model that contains 2 entities. I open that model in report builder 1.0.  When I drag a field from one of the entities into the design area, i can no longer see the other entity or use any of the fields from that other entity.
    I need to use fields from both entities in the same report (join tables).  In management studio i would simply write a query and join tables but i cannot figure out how to do this in report builder.  Once i select a field from one entity
    how do i select fields from more than one entity and drag them into the same report.

    Would it be possible for you to send me instructions for this? I am not that familiar with SQL coding but I can definitely figure it out. I have been wanting to get information on reports from multiple entities for a very long time! The only way I can
    currently do it is have our document management software people write the report for me for quite a large fee. I would much rather do this myself. Right now I can select a few fields from one entity (the main one), some from a second entity under that one,
    but I cannot add any fields from a third entity! Quite annoying and hindering! Thank you :)

  • Report Builder: Can I use a prompt filter in multiple ways?

    Hi,
    I'm new to Report Builder 3, which we use at my office for a number of custom made reports to access our project management server. On one of these we basically want to allow the user to pick a date, and then see all historic data before that date,
    and all forecast data after that date.
    Thus far the only way we can achieve this is by adding a prompt filter on a date at the field filter level; but as one of these is a
    before X and another is on or after X this creates two input filter prompts, and in some cases we end up needing the user to put the same date in 4 separate input fields!
    Does anyone know a way around this - I basically want to allow them to input a single variable date, and then be allowed to filter that in different ways.
    Thanks,
    James

    "adding a prompt filter on a date at the field filter level"
    Not sure what you mean by that. All you should need to do is create the parameter in the report as a Date/time type parameter; I will call it @FocusDate. If you have 2 datasets, HistoricalData and ForecastData, you would set the parameter in the filter criteria.
    If both are SQL queries then:
    HistoricalData:
    SELECT [field list] FROM history WHERE history.Date < @FocusDate
    ForecastData:
    SELECT [field list] FROM forecast WHERE forecast.Date > @FocusDate
    I am guessing this is not your scenario so I will need more information. Are you using the parameter to filter the data in a tablix (table, list, matrix) instead of the dataset query? Are you trying to display both historical and forecast data in the same
    tablix? If so is the data in  single dataset?

  • Cfreport cutting off lines on multiple pages created with report builder

    I have a report built with report builder and it appears that if you set the body to "stretch with overflow" that cfreport will "cut off" a line or two every time it paginates see attached for a simplified version of the report, I have removed all but the body on this (actual report has a watermark, report header, page header and page footer ...the problem is pretty apparnt with this scaled down version as you can see it's missing text from one page to the next ..any ideas/suggestions/known bug?? You can see a sample of the issue here: http://www.arroyoc.com/onlybody.pdf

    Hi Helen,
    As per my understanding, I think this issue is caused by width size is not appropriate in the report. To narrow down this issue, please make sure that Body Width + Left margin + Right margin <= (Page width).
    If the tablix is a matrix, because of the column group can expand to multiple columns, we should according to the following rule:
    Body Width + Extra expanded column width + Left margin + Right margin <= (Page width).
    Besides, please make sure there are no extra page breaks before each “R”. To check whether the issue is caused by the letter “R”, we can try to use another field to replace the Company Name field.
    Hope this helps.
