Multiple SQL queries in additional PL/SQL code in Report

Hello gurus,
I have a form in my portal populated some searching parameters and these parameters inserted into some temporary tables such as name_temp, addr_temp. And then I have a report that run based on these parameters, I have added additional PL/SQL code in the report at the time after the header was displayed. The code is as follows:
declare
checkname varchar2(40);
checkaddr varchar2(100);
begin
select emp.name into checkname from emp
where name = (select name from name_temp);
select personnel.addr into checkaddr from personnel
where addr = (select address from addr_temp);
end;
The problem I have is always the first SQL statement was executed, but not the second one, nor the third one. Does PL/SQL only supports one SQL statement per call? Please help. Is there a better way to handle this case?
Thanks.

  • Monitoring SQL Queries

    I work with IBM Cognos Business Intelligence software. Clients create reports. The data is on SQL Server 2008 R2. The client writes reports and behind the scenes Cognos creates SQL queries to retrieve the data for the report. I do not have access within
    Cognos to view all the SQL queries used to create a report. Sometimes the reports are really complicated, with many calculations on large amounts of data, and they can run for hours. How can i see the actual queries that are causing the problems? I would
    need to limit it to a specific database at a minimum.

    Your question is very general. The slowness could be caused be missing index, resource bottleneck etc.  You need start investigate where sql server is waiting the time,this can done by wait stats analysis.  use the code bellow find out the wait
    WITH Waits AS
    (SELECT wait_type, wait_time_ms / 1000. AS wait_time_s,
    100. * wait_time_ms / SUM(wait_time_ms) OVER() AS pct,
    ROW_NUMBER() OVER(ORDER BY wait_time_ms DESC) AS rn
    FROM sys.dm_os_wait_stats
    WHERE wait_type NOT IN ('CLR_SEMAPHORE','LAZYWRITER_SLEEP','RESOURCE_QUEUE','SLEEP_TASK'
    ,'SLEEP_SYSTEMTASK','SQLTRACE_BUFFER_FLUSH','WAITFOR', 'LOGMGR_QUEUE','CHECKPOINT_QUEUE'
    ,'REQUEST_FOR_DEADLOCK_SEARCH','XE_TIMER_EVENT','BROKER_TO_FLUSH','BROKER_TASK_STOP','CLR_MANUAL_EVENT'
    ,'CLR_AUTO_EVENT','DISPATCHER_QUEUE_SEMAPHORE', 'FT_IFTS_SCHEDULER_IDLE_WAIT'
    ,'XE_DISPATCHER_WAIT', 'XE_DISPATCHER_JOIN', 'SQLTRACE_INCREMENTAL_FLUSH_SLEEP'))
    SELECT W1.wait_type,
    CAST(W1.wait_time_s AS DECIMAL(12, 2)) AS wait_time_s,
    CAST(W1.pct AS DECIMAL(12, 2)) AS pct,
    CAST(SUM(W2.pct) AS DECIMAL(12, 2)) AS running_pct
    FROM Waits AS W1
    INNER JOIN Waits AS W2
    ON W2.rn <= W1.rn
    GROUP BY W1.rn, W1.wait_type, W1.wait_time_s, W1.pct
    HAVING SUM(W2.pct) - W1.pct < 99 OPTION (RECOMPILE);

  • How I can get in Additional pl/sql code variables in Report?

    I develop sql Report
    with group functions and I can't insert there additional fields in SQL.So I think that I can insert or get bind variables and others by Additional Pl/SQL.Is it possible or not ?
    Example of Report
    can I insert here by additional PL/SQL ------------> COTTON
    department sum(price)
    usa-cotton-01 20000000 sum
    usa-cotton-02 30000000 sum
    usa-cotton-03 40000000 sum
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    I did not understand your requirement. The additional plsql code section can be used for any additional coding like inserting or updating into a table in the DB or printing a single value from a table or printing multiple values using cursors. It can also be used to print the values of the p_arg_names and p_arg_values which are the bind variable names and values. But you cannot add columns to the main existing query.
    Thanks,
    Sharmila

  • Ruby code for sql queries

    Hello everybody,
    First off, let me apologize if my inquiry does not belong on this forum. I am confident however, that someone here has had experience with this since Oracle and ruby on rails/ruby are used frequently. My fingers are crossed, here's is my problem:
    I am currently working on a database system that utilizes ruby on rails
    with a oracle database. Here's the situation:
    the ruby on rails web application is up and running;
    my oracle database is full of tables that are populated with data;
    there is a successful connection between rails and my oracle database;
    however, what isn't finished is I currently have data mining queries in
    sql (eg. find minimum time someone has been employed = "Select
    min(time) from table...etc") and what I need to do is write one ruby
    program for each of my sql queries so that the ruby program:
    1) connects to the oracle database each time the query is called
    2) runs the sql query on the oracle database
    3) takes the results from the query and returns them in an array or
    something of that nature (so that I can use the results in an html file
    on the ruby on rails web application).
    Again, I apologize if this question does not belong on this forum. If someone however has experience with this could you please give me example code of what this would look like (using different sql queries). Thank you

    I apologize if this question does not belong on this forum. OTN does have a forum dedicated to Ruby/Ruby On Rails. I admit it doesn't seem to get much traffic. I think that's because most people working with Ruby tend to go for F/OSS products.
    Cheers, APC

    select lastname into v_test from wvgsemp
    where username = :binduser;
    htp.bold('Report generated by:

    end;
    but it say PLS-00049: bad bind variable 'BINDUSER'
    However this is exactly the way I declared it in step one

  • Multiple SQL Queries in SAP BPC  5.1 EVMODIFY

    Hi All,
    We have multiple SQL Queries in Outlooksoft 4.2 which extracts data from Oracle source system with different set of selections and conditions and parameters. We were able to use multiple SQL Queries in Outlooksoft 4.2 using Transform Data Flow Task and paste parameters using evModify dynamic script task, where ever extract to source system is needed.
    According to  SAP BPC 5.1, all these multiple SQL Queries and extracts by passing parameters will be coded in EVMODIFY dynamic script editor.But, EVMODIFY dynamic script editor is not working with the sets of multiple SQL Queris.It's able to recognize and execute the first SQL Query, but not able to execute from the second SQL Query.
    Does any body, did multiple extracts using SQL Queries to the source system by passing parameters using SAP BPC 5.1 data  manager and SSIS Packages, please let me know, how you did achieve the above functionality.

    Hi Sorin,
    Thanks for your update, I tried declaring the variable between %%....GLOBAL(%GTIMEID%,%SELECTION%) and the package runs now but the problem is that the package is executed using the default date value for the variable GTIMEID declared in the DTSX package and its not taken the date that I'm trying to pass from BPC.  As showed below, please if you could take a look to the ModifyScript and see the last line for the global variable and line 13  PROMTP(SELECTINPUT,%SELECTION%,,,%TIME_DIM%) where I am selecting the TIMEID:

  • SQL Queries in Code V/s Stored Procedures

    Hi Friend,
    Can any one of you guide me with following..
    What is faster ? using SQL Queries in Java code or using Stored Procedures which are called from code?
    I understnd Stroed Procedures are faster and definitely it provides more maintainability.
    If any one can give me any links or resources which outlines pros and cons of using Stored Proc and SQL Queries embedded in Java than it would be a great help..
    If there are any articles which proves either of the above is a preferred way, that would also help..
    Appreciate the effort in advance !!
    Thanks
    Gurudatt

    Well one benefit of Stored Procs is that you "compile" it on the database whereas you might build your query on the fly in java... test coverage is important in order not to have such things as a typo in a column name....
    Still, if you change a table, you have to go through all the procedures in SQL and likely to do so in some of your business object... and trust me, that can be hell!
    It all depends on the use of the app...
    From my experience, Stored procedure are much faster than built-on-the-fly SQL (and quite faster than prepared statements depending on the JDBC driver, the re-use of connections etc...)....
    IMHO, you'd probably be wise to start of with prepared statements, and when the schema seems stable enough (ie unlikely to change), look for the slower queries and convert them to stroed procedures.
    If you don't have to support several databases and are tight on performance, you can even include some logic in your stored procedure (e.g. update several tables, based on various selects...etc...). The language is usually quite powerful, and that can save you the run-time of selecting, converting to object , process and update (i.e. several roud-trip between DB and app)...
    Tshcuss!

  • How to get multiple out parameters from a pl/sql stored procedure in ADF Jdeveloper 11g release2

    I´m trying to call from AppModuleImpl a stored procedure from my oracle DB which receives one input parameter and returns 5 out parameters.
    I´m using jdeveloper 11g release2  ADF and I have created a java bean "ProRecallPlatesBean " with the atributes and accesors and I serialize it. just like in this article http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24382_01/web.1112/e16182/bcadvgen.htm#sm0297
    This is my code so far:
    public ProRecallPlatesBean getCallProRecallPlates(String numPlates) {

    try {
              // 1. Define the PL/SQL block for the statement to invoke

    In Jdeveloper I went into AppModule.xml JAVA>Client Interface section and expose "getCallProRecallPlates" Then I can see "getCallProRecallPlates" in Data Controls, I drag and drop it to a JSF page, an input text component and a button are generated in order to put in there the procedure input parameter (numPlates).
    I don't know if I'm on the right track.
    When I click the button, the "result" variable is supposed to be filled with data from the stored procedure. I want each of those values to be displayed in Output text or input text adf components but I dont know how. Thank you very much in advance I´m a newbie and i'll appreciate your help!

    What version are you on?
    Works fine for me on my 11g:
    SQL> create or replace procedure testxml (clob_out out clob)
      2  is
      3     l_clob   clob;
      4     l_ctx    dbms_xmlquery.ctxhandle;
      5  begin
      6     l_ctx := dbms_xmlquery.newcontext ('select * from dual');
      7     l_clob := dbms_xmlquery.getxml (l_ctx);
      8     clob_out := l_clob;
      9     dbms_xmlquery.closecontext (l_ctx);
    10  end testxml;
    11  /
    Procedure created.
    SQL>
    SQL> variable vout clob;
    SQL>
    SQL> exec testxml (:vout)
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL>
    SQL> print vout
    VOUT
    <?xml version = '1.0'?>
    <ROWSET>
       <ROW num="1">
          <DUMMY>X</DUMMY>
       </ROW>
    </ROWSET>But definitely you can optimize your proc a bit: Try
    create or replace procedure testxml (clob_out in out nocopy clob)
    is
       l_ctx    dbms_xmlquery.ctxhandle;
    begin
       l_ctx := dbms_xmlquery.newcontext ('select * from dual');
       clob_out := dbms_xmlquery.getxml (l_ctx);
       dbms_xmlquery.closecontext (l_ctx);
    end testxml;

  • How to set multiple parameters in one EXECUTE IMMEDIATE sql

    I want to set both nls_language and nls_date_language, and set them as different languages. fnd_global.set_nls_context() doesn't work. So I think maybe I can use the EXECUTE IMMEDIATE, and add them together into one statement. But I don't know how to make that happen. Can anybody help me? Thanks very much.
    PS: It has to be done in one call.

    Hey, thanks for your answer, I forgot to mention that it has to be in begin-end block, do you know how?EXEC is a SQL Plus API that can be used to run PL/SQL code. What it does is put the PL/SQL code in a BEGIN .. END block and run it.
    So you can also manually put the code in a BEGIN..END block and run like this.
    SQL> begin
      2     execute immediate q'[begin execute immediate 'alter session set nls_date_language = ''AMERICAN'''; execute immediate 'alter session set nls_language = ''AMERICAN'''; end;]';
      3  end;
      4  /
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> And i dont understand what possible benefit does it makes to do a single execution into a BEGIN..END over multiple execution.
    Why this code is not of your interest, something like this
    begin
         execute immediate 'alter session set nls_date_language = ''AMERICAN''';
         execute immediate 'alter session set nls_language = ''AMERICAN''';
    end;

  • Multiple Select List looping thru PL/SQL function body returning SQL query

    Hi,
    I have a Multiple Select List. I want to loop through the values from the Select List and process them in a PL/SQL function body returning a SQL query. Currently, my code only returns the SQL SELECT results of one item in the select list. How do I change my code to make it return the results of all of the items in the select list? (I tested it and it is definitely picking up all the values in the select list).
    <b>

      RETURN q;
      END LOOP;
    END;</b>
    Thank you,
    Laura

    Laura,
    First, I would be careful of introducing SQL Injection possibilities. Any time I see
    'Select ... ' || :P123_FOO || ' ... '
    I worry about sql injection. In your case you are converting :P50_SELECTED_INSTRUMENTS into selected_items and then selected_items into s. So when I see
    'WHERE TO_CHAR(orig_geo_loc_sys) LIKE ''' || s ||'%'' '||
    I think, "I could use sql Injection and hack this."
    So, I would do some validation on :P50_SELECTED_INSTRUMENTS or some other method to avoid this.
    I'm not certain I understand your query. Do you really intend to allow the user to select the beginning of a string and then find all rows that start with that string? Or, do you just want to let them find when it matches the string. This is one way if you want to do matching:
    DECLARE
    selected_items HTMLDB_APPLICATION_GLOBAL.VC_ARR2;
    s VARCHAR2(32767);
    q varchar2(32767);
    BEGIN
    -- Change the : separate string to be comma separated with quoted strings
    s := '''' || replace(:P50_SELECTED_INSTRUMENTS, ',', ''',''')|| '''' ;
    -- htp.p('COUNT: '||selected_items.count);
    q:= 'SELECT '||
    'SUBSTR(orig_geo_loc_sys,1,INSTR(orig_geo_loc_sys,''-'')-1) AS INSTRUMENT, '||
    'SUBSTR(orig_geo_loc_sys,INSTR(orig_geo_loc_sys,''-'')+1, LENGTH'||
    ' (orig_geo_loc_sys)) AS ORIG_LINENUM, '||
    'sum(orig_intrl) orig_intrl, '||
    'sum(orig_extrl) orig_extrl, '||
    'sum(recv_intrl) recv_intrl, '||
    'sum(recv_extrl) recv_extrl '||
    'FROM line_usage_sum_view '||
    'WHERE TO_CHAR(orig_geo_loc_sys) in (' || s ||' ) '||
    --'WHERE TO_CHAR(orig_geo_loc_sys) LIKE ''2213003%'' '||
    'AND switch_id = ''' || :P1_SWITCH_ID || ''' ' ||
    'AND call_start_date > TO_DATE(''30-NOV-1999'') ' ||
    'AND call_clear_time > TO_DATE(''30-NOV-1999'') '||
    'AND '||
    :SORTFIELD||' BETWEEN '||
    'TO_DATE(:STARTDATE,''dd-MON-YYYY HH24:MI'') AND '||
    'TO_DATE(:STOPDATE, ''dd-MON-YYYY HH24:MI'') '||
    'GROUP BY GROUPING SETS (orig_geo_loc_sys)';
    -- htp.p('SQL query: '||q);
    RETURN q;
    END;
    If you want to do something more like you originally stated, try this:
    DECLARE
    selected_items HTMLDB_APPLICATION_GLOBAL.VC_ARR2;
    s VARCHAR2(20);
    q varchar2(32767);
    BEGIN
    selected_items := HTMLDB_UTIL.STRING_TO_TABLE(:P50_SELECTED_INSTRUMENTS);
    -- htp.p('COUNT: '||selected_items.count);
    q:= 'SELECT '||
    'SUBSTR(orig_geo_loc_sys,1,INSTR(orig_geo_loc_sys,''-'')-1) AS INSTRUMENT, '||
    'SUBSTR(orig_geo_loc_sys,INSTR(orig_geo_loc_sys,''-'')+1, LENGTH'||
    ' (orig_geo_loc_sys)) AS ORIG_LINENUM, '||
    'sum(orig_intrl) orig_intrl, '||
    'sum(orig_extrl) orig_extrl, '||
    'sum(recv_intrl) recv_intrl, '||
    'sum(recv_extrl) recv_extrl '||
    'FROM line_usage_sum_view '||
    'WHERE 1=1 ';
    FOR i in 1..selected_items.count LOOP
    s := TO_CHAR(selected_items(i));
    q := q || ' and TO_CHAR(orig_geo_loc_sys) LIKE '''|| s ||'%'' ' ;
    END LOOP;
    q := q || ||'%'' '||
    --'WHERE TO_CHAR(orig_geo_loc_sys) LIKE ''2213003%'' '||
    'AND switch_id = ''' || :P1_SWITCH_ID || ''' ' ||
    'AND call_start_date > TO_DATE(''30-NOV-1999'') ' ||
    'AND call_clear_time > TO_DATE(''30-NOV-1999'') '||
    'AND '||
    :SORTFIELD||' BETWEEN '||
    'TO_DATE(:STARTDATE,''dd-MON-YYYY HH24:MI'') AND '||
    'TO_DATE(:STOPDATE, ''dd-MON-YYYY HH24:MI'') '||
    'GROUP BY GROUPING SETS (orig_geo_loc_sys)';
    -- htp.p('SQL query: '||q);
    RETURN q;
    END;
    Hope this helps...

  • Error while running the sql queries in unix as cron job..

    Hi,
    I've configured some sql queries to run as cronjob from unix,i'm able to excute all the sql queries with out any error,after all the queries are executed,I'm getting the following error message.
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [4080], [1], [131], [], [], [], [],
    Could any one advise me why this error is being thrown?
    How to avoid this error?
    Thanks,
    Anil

    Are you running these queries through TopLink?
    If so, the error seems to be occurring on the database, when the query is being executed.
    I have never seen that error before. Performing some websearches it seems to be a general database error, potentially something to do with synchronization. Sorry I can't be of more help, perhaps the database forum can provide more insight...
