Mutliple Routers on One Segment

Hi Everyone,
Could anybody please explain to me if the following would work?
My question is, would machine 10.10.160.2 be able to ping machine 10.10.160.66? These are on different subnets and all routes in all routing tables are connected.
The problem I see is that if the default gateway is set to 10.10.160.58 then the traffic will never leave the first router. COuld anybody please explain to me how I should configure this setup?
Many thanks,
Daniel

There are a couple of things in your environment that are not clear to me. I gather that the devices in the drawing on the left and on the right are routers of some kind. Is the 5500 in the center functioning just as a layer 2 switch or is it also doing layer 3?
You comment that all routes in the routing table are connected. Do I understand that the router on the left has only a single route in its table 10.10.160.0/26? And do I understand that the router on the right has only two routes in its table (10.10.160.0/26 and 10.10.160.64/26? And do I assume correctly that there is no dynamic routing protocol configured?
If my understanding is correct then there are at least two solutions that you can consider. You could configure a static route on the left router that would look something like this:
ip route 10.10.160.64 255.255.255.192 10.10.160.59
Or you could configure some dynamic routing protocol on both routers, including both subnets of the right router in the routing protocol.
Either of these solutions would allow the 10.10.160.2 machine to ping the 10.10.160.66 machine. Having the default gateway set to 10.10.160.58 is appropriate and is not itself a problem. The problem in your current environment is that the router on the left has no knowledge of the 10.10.160.64 subnet or how to get there. This is the problem that you must resolve.

  • File to Idoc - Generate one segment where sourcfields have identical values

    Hello Team,
This is a Flat File to Idoc scenario where one idoc is generated at the target.
As i have mapped the Record(1..unbounded) with the E1MBXYI (1..9999), one record  in the file would create one E1MBXYI- segment in the Idoc. So if the source has four records then this would create an idoc with four E1MBXYI-segments. The requirement is, it has to generate only 1 segment for the input records(Order,Item and Date) if they have identical values.
    eg., 1234,66,01032009 (Order,Item,Date)
           1234,67,01032009
           1234,68,01032009
1234,69,01032009  - this would generate four E1MBXY1 segments in the target each for item value 66,67,68 & 69 as it has no identical item values.
    eg., 1234,66,01032009
           1234,67,01032009
           1234,66,01032009
1234,68,01032009  - this would generate three E1MBXY1 segments each for item value 66,67 & 68 in the target. The 2 identical item values for item 66 creates one segment.
How could i achieve this in the mapping, Should i go for an UDF or could it be achieved using standard functions?
    Appreciate your replies....
    Thanks,
    Rag

    Hi Raghavendra,
U can achieve this by simple graphical mapping.
U can do ir using following functions,
    If
    equlas
    and
    context changes.
    eg.
                                                                                    order                           order
                         order
                         item                   equalsS                                                         then
                                                                                 and                       if
                         date
                         order                   equalsS                                                      else
                                                                                    order(context change)             order
repeat the same for other fields also,
    item and date....
If any doubt pl post the problem....
I hope this will be helping u...

  • I want to add flash to one segment of a clip.

How do I capture that one segment?  When I trim the clips ends the segment goes to a smaller scale.  So when I insert the flashed segment it looks like double vision

I also do not quite understand what you mean.  If you want to simply add a "flash" somewhere, I would simply "split" the clip where you want the flash to be then add a "flash" transition to the split point.  The resulting two clips should continue as if they were one only with a flash going off at the place where the split is.  I think you should have snap enabled so you don't accidentally move the clips apart somehow.  Then, since it is a transition you are adding to get the "flash" effect, the clip you are working with must be on the storyline ... transitions can only be applied on storyline clips.  Don't know if this is what you were looking for.  Hope it helps some.

  • Two Routers off One Cable Modem?

Can I run two routers off one cable modem, one a hardwired Windows network and the other an Airport Extreme networking a Powerbook G4 and wireless printer?

No you cannot - unless you pay your cable internet service provider for two public IP addresses.
What I would suggest if you already have the base station but have not yet purchased the router:
    - connect the cable modem to the Base Station's WAN port
    - buy a 4- or 8-port ethernet switch. Connect to the switch the LAN port of the Base Station, and all of your hardwired PCs
What I would suggest if you already have a router and base station:
    - connect the cable modem to the router's WAN port
    - connect all the hardwired PCs to the router's LAN ports
    - connect the Airport Base Station to one of the router's LAN ports, and configure the Base Station to function as a wireless access point per http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx/.59976caa

    Dears,
    The error has being solved!
The problem was the configuration of SD accounts determination.
After the SD team customize the right accounts for accounting (until then they had defined any accounting records), the error was suppressed.

  • Can I use two MI424WR routers in one house?

Hello, I currently have one Fios provided router in my home but I need to move it so that the wireless signal reaches my master bedroom, which right now it doesn't, but if I were to move my router to another room I would be forced to move my computer desk and unfortunately I can't do that right now.  My question is can I acquire a second MI424WR router in which I can attach via coax cable and use it as a nonwireless router, by turning off the wireless, so I can use for internet access for my home PC that is connected via ethernet cable?  Thanks for any help.

    Verizon Coaxial Network Adapter

I understand that I can use this adapter to get my signal to the computer but is it possible to use another router instead?  I ask because this network adapter has only one Ethernet jack and costs almost $80.  The MI424WR routers are like $30 on ebay and have 4 ethernet ports.  The ethernet ports are important to me because I have two computers at my desk and sometimes link a third.
Yes if you only plan on using it as a MOCA bridge and switch. I would say the ones on Ebay are older and perhaps Rev, A-D and are not very good as a router with the newer speeds. Even as a WiFi access point for a second location, it might not work as well as the latest Rev. I.
Just be sure you set the DHCP to off, do not use the WAN port, and be sure to set the LAN port to a different address other that the default 192.168.1.1, which would cause conflicts with your existing router. Use a decent bi-directional splitter at the new location to split the coax.

  • Remove one segment of line connecting points in a trendline chart?

I have a linear trendline plotted where the data points for the first 19 values lie on either side of the trendline. These are joined by a dashed line. I want to keep that line intact.
The last 9 points lie along the trendline and are indistinguishable from it. That's fine, too.
I want to remove just the segment of the dashed line running from the last distinguishable point to the first indistinguishable one. Breaking the 28 point dataset into two sets isn't an option since I need all 28 to produce the trendline. The trendline is the reason for the chart.
Anything I can do to remove that segment of dashed line? Wite Out isn't an option.
    Thanks for any ideas.

    Badunit--
That is really clever, and it should work. I really appreciate your response.
You've understood the problem. I have a trendline derived from the cluster of data points with one point for each of 20 years (1991-2010). My requirement is a chart showing both those 1991-2010 points and the trendline (with precision) from 1991 extended to 2020. Since the known values stop at 2010, and since Numbers can't extend the trendline without a workaround, I received help (from you, as a matter of fact) last year on this Forum finding a way to plot the line (essentially by trial and error for the future points). To check my values from last year, I tried out Excel for Mac 2004 and found Excel provided the numerical values through 2020. I plugged them into my Numbers table and life is good.
The objective in this post was to remove the connector joining the 2010 point to the trend line value point for 2011. The 2011-2020 points don't need to be visible--only the trendline they generate.
Your solution should result in my generating the trendline using my full set of 1991-2020 points. I suppose the points along it from 2011-2020 could be made invisible while the trendline stroke and color could be "robust."
A second series, the set of points for 1991-2010, will be visible and connected. If the first series of points is made invisible, there won't be any double vision problems for 1991-2010.
Much appreciated. I'll give it a try. [ I went into the detail above since someone else may encounter similar problems. FYI, your previous help was on 22 July 09].

  • Two WRT610N Routers Which One to Keep, Which One to Return?

For Christmas I received two WRT610N routers as gifts.  While the model number is the same they appear to be different versions, or at least in different packaging.
The first one is in an all blue box and is called N Ultra Range Plus Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router.  UPC# 45883 58520.
The second one is in a blue box with a red banner on the front and a red side panel.  On that box the router is called a Simultanteous Dual Band Wireles-N Gigabit Router. The UPC# is also 4583 58520.
Since I want to return one of them, I have not yet opened either box, so here are my questions:
Are these the exact same products?
Is one V1 and the other V2? How can you tell V1 from V2?
Is V2 better than V1 or is it just a firmware update to the same hardware?
If they are not the same product, which one should I keep and which one should I return?
    Thanks for your help!

I agree with richard - I didn't mention this in my last post
Unless you are in dire need of some other piece of equipment and can exchange the 2nd router for it - I would keep them both -- especially since Santa brought them and you have no actual cost ($$) in them
I maintain two different home networks and help 2 different business keep their small networks running -- I have a spare/extra router for 'each' of my home networks - and the two business' always has a spare router on hand - in case of an emergency
I'm not sure about your chipset question -- but I beieve you may be able to tell the version # by the S/N - google around to check on the S/N--Version question --- or ask Liknsys Chat -- it's faster than a phone call - http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/chat

  • Two Cisco Routers in one class-c network

    Hello,
i have two cisco routers, which are connected to one switch. On this switch, there are several servers connected as well.
When i connected the second cisco router, i got messages on the first router, that there is an ip address conflict. After a few minutes it seems as if the vpn tunnel on the first router breaks down because of this conflict. I'm not sure about this, but when i disconnected the second router again, the vpn tunnel could be established again. The vpn tunnel goes to another router via WAN and ends in the local class-c network, where both routers are in.

Could the /24 mask on the interfaces cause the conflicts?
From the servers, none has the ip 192.168.105.253 or 192.168.105.254 and if i disconnect Router2, the IP 192.168.105.253 is not reachable from any system on the switch.
So how does this ip address conflict occur?

    hello,
can you check the router 1 log. with error message you should have a mac address

  • Updating one Segment Value in GL Code Combinations

    Dear Members,
We are using Oracle GL in our Organization from past couple of years.
Our COA consists of 6 Segments (i.e, Company--Organization--Area--Activity--Account--Product)
Now users are requesting us to change few account combinations for instance
11-00-00-00-123456-0000 to 11-00-00-00-123456-1000 ie. We have to update all the Posted and Unposted Journals having code combination of 11-00-00-00-123456-0000 to 11-00-00-00-123456-1000.
Please let me know whether this is a common practice? Are we allowed to do such updates without any adverse effects?
If we are allowed to update is there any API available?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Best Regards.

    Hi
If you do this from the backend (i.e. update GL_JE_LINES and GL_BALANCES) it is completely unsupported (for obvious reasons).
If you want to do it via the frontend the General Ledger Mass Maintenance function will do it (Setup > Other > Mass Maintenance), i.e. it will move the balances from one combination to another. It does not create journals to do so though so it depends on the business requirement as to whether an audit trail is required for the change.
It's a pretty common practice - finance often want new cost centres, change their minds about cost centres and move balances around. I usually don't use Mass Maintenance as the auditors usually prefer journals but if a mistake was made in the cost centre setup or something then yes, Mass Maintenance works. Give it a shot in your test environment, show finance what results and check that they are happy with that.

  • Three WRT54G Routers on one subnet

I support a tcp/ip network that has three WRT54G Routers on a cat 5 backbone which are all on one subnet 192.168.2.96/27. There's one WAP54G configured as a wireless repeater for a sales area in the corner of the office where there's no drop. The internet connection is provided by Comcast via cable modem. The office manager purchased the routers because they were cheaper then the WAP54G Access points and the cabling was already in place. There must be a real tight budget there. I configured Router1 (WRT54G) as a gateway to the Cable Modem and enabled DHCP beginning with octal 105 leaving 8 ip addresses for static and 22 for DHCP devices. The other two (Router2 and Router3) WRT54G's I've disabled DHCP and enabled them as Routers instead of Gateways with RIP disabled. The WAP54G Repeater has the wireless MAC Addressed of Router1's in its Repeater settings and has no cable to the network.
Since all DHCP devices on the network have its default gateway set as Router1, everyone is able to get on the internet. While I was configuring the network I noticed that it didn't matter if I made Router2 and 3 routers or gateway as everyone appeared to be working okay and were able to get on the internet but in the setup it says to enable Router for all devices not directly connected to an internet connection. I'm guessing that this might make a difference only if I had two different subnets in the office. Since Router2 and 3 are basically dumb to the internet gateway, they can't see anything beyond their own ip address and just pass packets back and forth almost like a repeater.
I guess my question here would be, is there any advantage of using the WAP54G over the WRT54G as an access point when wired to cat 5?
Message Edited by donwoodsnet on 12-04-200605:06 PM

I guess you have connected the WRT54Gs through their LAN ports and the internet port is empty. That's the way how you use them as access points.
If you connect them that way the gateway or router mode is irrelevant. The mode only works between the LAN and WAN. They did not design the WRT really for use as access point with an open internet port and therefore this is not documented in the help file. I would leave the setting on gateway as then it is a setting less to change back in case you must use it as gateway later again. If you use router mode, make sure RIP is disabled. The router is not working as router thus it needs no routing information...
Regarding your question: the answer is only the obvious one: except for the more extended configuration options in the WAP I don't think their is an advantage for either one.

  • Cascaded routers as one mega-wifi--network?

    Hi,
Right now, I have 3 Cisco/linksys routers linked together in my house.
    1) Master (connected to modem)WRT160Nv3
    2) WRT54G2
    3) WRT54G
As of now, I have them cascaded properly, and they each have their own wi-fi name.
You can acces the internet from any of them, because they are all connected to the WRT160Nv3
Is there any way to make these one big, single wi-fi network, not 3 separate ones? ex, with seamless transitions between routers?

Yes. Set them up as access point. Assuming the WRT160N is still on LAN IP 192.168.1.1 set up the second WRT as follows:
    1. Internet connection type to Automatic/DHCP.
    2. LAN IP 192.168.1.2
    3. Disable DHCP server.
    4. Wire one of the LAN ports of the second WRT to a LAN port of the main.
Do the same with the third except choosing 192.168.1.3 for LAN IP address.
For a wireless roaming network, choose identical SSID, wireless encryption, and passphrase. Make sure SSID broadcast is enabled on all WRTs. Choose different channels on each, e.g. 1,6,11 for best performance on all access points.
Good wireless clients should now be able to roam seamlessly between access points. But how well it works depends on the wireless card and the driver implementation. Some drivers will remain connected until the connection is lost and will then reconnect which will result in a brief interruption.

  • Multiply routers and one WAE appliance at the location

    Hi all,
I have a question abou WCCP. Imagine you have multiply routers connecting between each other at locations. There is the primary and the backup WAN link connected to one of the routers between locations. All routers have two uplinks to two LAN L3 switches. You have one dedicated subnet for WAE which is connected to all routers. The WAE has an IP address from that subnet and default gateway which is IP address of one router. I use WCCP v2 for interception traffic to all routers (for example - ip wccp 61 redirect in for LAN interface and ip wccp 62 redirect in for WAN interface, ip wccp redirect exclude in for WAE VLAN interface).
What egress method should I use?
IP forwarding - which causes the WAE to send the optimized packets to the configured default gateway which can but doesn't have to be redirecting router
GRE - the return traffic packets are returned back to the intercepting router using the GRE tunnel that is created as a result of WCCP negotiation, condition - configuring static routes to all routers
What is the best practise for proposed solution?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
I would think based on the description that you provided that egress method would be the best approach. The reason for this is becuase it should send the traffic back to the router was sent it over to the WAE device - keeping the routing plane the same after redirection.
Here is a link that explain the egress method in more details.

  • Manage Cisco ISR routers as one device

I'm looking for a tool that allows me to manage two Cisco ISR routers (2911) as one device ("cluster" device or "virtual" device).
Both routers are connected directly to the internet and are using HSRP to perform a function of the virtual default gateway for LAN devices.
What about Cisco ASA in Active/Active or Active/Passive Failover mode?
    Thanks,
    Jernej

No, this is not currently possible.  The devices need to be managed using their individual IP addresses (i.e. not the virtual IP of HSRP).  You'll generally want to do that for the time being since both devices will have their own CPU, memory, buffer, etc. characteristics.
